everything Cher does, she does it perfectly!

Novità in casa CHER!

new Cher doll?!

If You Could Turn Away Your Eyes Cher DollQuestion: What's scarier than a scantily clad Cher on a battleship?
Answer: A scantily clad Cher doll on eBay.

Hot on the heels of the "Heroes" cheerleader doll auction, a Cher doll has popped up. Where the "Heroes" doll was the pinnacle of doll craftsmanship, the Cher doll is ... well, terrifying. This could be due to the outfit Cher wore in her infamous "If I Could Turn Back Time" video, which has been recreated for the doll along with tiny tattoos ... or maybe it's the unruly hair. Still, it's the perfect chance for to make your own Cher videos for YouTube!

Make your own joke about the way this item is displayed. Battleship not included.

Ciao ragazzi!!!

Honor the Vets Saturday with Cher, Sarandon and Haggis

There are certain documentaries appropriate for many occasions and I could easily write a Cinematical Seven for any holiday doc-watching. But this Veteran's Day, I think the best doc to watch is The Ground Truth: After the Killing Ends, a film by Patricia Foulkrod about soldiers who've returned after serving in Iraq. The best thing about The Ground Truth is that in addition to giving the vets an outlet with which to tell their stories of difficult homecoming, it also examines a broader history and psychology of veterans in the last century. I recommend buying the DVD, which came out in September, because 10% of the proceeds made on each disc goes to Operation Helmet, an organization created to send helmets to troops without proper headgear.

In addition to picking up the DVD, I also recommend checking out a special event this Saturday. Focus Features, which distributed The Ground Truth, and AOL are co-hosting a live online event to support the troops and the veterans at 1pm EST. Users will be linked to a live chat with returned Iraq War soldiers, vets from previous wars, and a number of participating celebrities, including Cher, Paul Haggis, Susan Sarandon, Diane Lane, Vondie Curtis Hall and Amy Brenneman.

Cher to join chef on African trip
Robert Wood
Robert Wood has spent his lifesavings on the project
A retired chef, who has spent his lifesavings sending aid to an African school, has told how singer Cher phoned to ask to join him on a charity trip.

Robert Wood, 55, of Glenrothes in Fife, was stunned when the star called to say she wanted to help following a TV appeal he recorded recently.

Mr Wood with his wife, Eleanor, set up Peace Village School and Orphanage Trust following a holiday to Kenya.

Mr Wood said he would visit the school with Cher in December.

Worth every penny

Mr Wood said he had spent his lifesavings of £15,000 sending aid to the school.

He said: "We were on holiday in Ukunda in Kenya in February and decided we had to help these children because they had nothing.

"They sleep on the floor of a mud hut which is also a classroom and have no pencils, paper or food.

"Some people might think we are crazy spending all our lifesavings but it is worth every penny when you see they have no food, clothing and toys.

"But they need a lot more so I recently went on TV asking for help and the next thing I know Cher called me last Wednesday."

Cher has pledged her support to the cause

Mr Wood said he needs to raise the money for the piece of land worth £18,000 where the mud huts are built on before it is sold to developers.

He added: "Cher said she wanted to buy the land and help build a school after she saw my appeal.

"It brought a tear to my eye. She was calling from Germany and said she had heard I wasn't sleeping at night because I was worrying about the children.

"I agreed and then she said 'Well sweet dreams babe because when I start a project, I finish it, you can start sleeping at night now'."

A UK spokesman for Cher confirmed the star intended to get involved with the project and had spoken to the couple.

He said: "Cher does quite a lot of charity work but keeps her efforts low key."

Cher, Sinise give thousands to Bono campaign

Cher - the other former Mrs. Sonny Bono - gave Rep. Mary Bono $1,000 for her re-election campaign in July.

The Oscar-winning actress and singer made her campaign contribution just days before appearing alongside Bono on Capitol Hill to promote better combat helmets for American troops.

Actor Gary Sinise, famous for his role as Lieutenant Dan in the movie "Forrest Gump," and as the lead in "CSI: New York" also gave money - $2,100 - to Bono's re-election campaign.

Sinise, who helped found Chicago's famous Steppenwolf Theatre Company, has attended a number of Coachella Valley fundraisers, including a black-tie gala earlier this year for the Palm Springs International Film Festival. He holds a golf outing for Steppenwolf in the valley as well.

The two celebrity contributions were part of Bono's recent campaign filings to the Federal Election Commission. The report covers a three-month period, which ended Sept. 30.

Bono, a Palm Springs Republican, has raised about twice as much cash in the past three months as her Democratic challenger, David Roth, campaign finance reports show.

Bono raised about $354,000 this quarter, boosting her campaign account to more than $546,000. Roth only raised $179,906, leaving him about $135,000 available for his campaign. Bono has also outspent Roth by about two to one - she spent about $897,000 compared to the $437,000 Roth has spent on his campaign.

"Mary Bono says David Roth isn't a serious candidate and yet she has already spent $900,000 against him," said Joe Huser, Roth's campaign manager.

As a challenger, Roth is raising as much as he can to beat Bono in November, he said.

"It is always more difficult raising money as a challenger," he said. "We don't take contributions from oil company executives."

The number of campaign contributions Bono has received show how much support she has in the Coachella Valley, said Marc Troast, Bono's campaign manager.

"These numbers clearly demonstrate the voters know and understand the congresswoman has been a great leader for our area," he said.

Cher Auctions Off Personal Items

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (October 3, 2006) -- Cher has cleared out her closets of
all sorts of stuff and it's up for auction through tomorrow at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

The items include Bob Mackie gowns, antique furniture, paintings and an autographed football.

New York collector Brian Cummings is bidding on some of the gowns from Cher's days on the "Sonny and Cher Show." He calls them exquisite and a part of American history.

Greg Schreiner is a Santa Monica College piano teacher who has a revue called "Hollywood Revisited." That's why he's bidding on some of Cher's costumes.

Along with the costumes there is a signed football that former NFL quarterback Joe Namath gave to Cher. It went for eleven-hundred dollars. A Leroy Neiman painting of Sonny, Cher and Chastity as a toddler went for 40-thousand dollars.

Cher fans snag Bob Mackie gowns, art in $3.54 million auction

While the paintings may have gone to art collectors, the Bob Mackie-designed gowns worn by Cher during a 1974 television performance of ``Dark Lady'' and to the 1998 Academy Awards definitely went to a fan.

``I had high hopes for the Academy Awards gown, but I never thought I'd have it in my possession,'' said Scott Clark, 48, a jewelry manufacturer who said he has followed Cher's career for almost four decades. Clark paid $19,200 for the beaded, ivory Academy Awards gown and $10,800 for the ``Dark Lady'' dress.

Clark, who says he has met the pop singer and actress a few times as part of his work, also bought, for $10,800 as well, a faux-leopard-print jumpsuit worn by Cher when she played the wisecracking character Laverne on her TV show, along with several other outfits. He plans to display them in a room of his Sonoma, California, home devoted to items owned by Cher.

The outfits were among the costumes, jewelry, furniture, art, automobiles and personal memorabilia sold during a two-day auction of Cher's belongings that ended yesterday in Beverly Hills. About 780 items sold for a total of $3.54 million. Julien's Auctions and New York-based Sotheby's, which ran the sale together, had estimated that sales would reach $1.4 million to $1.6 million.

``I knew it would go well,'' said Julien's chief executive officer, Darren Julien. ``You'd have to work very hard to mess up a Cher sale.''

The priciest item sold was a black 2005 Bentley Continental GT coupe, which went Tuesday for $204,000. Prices paid include a 20 percent buyer's premium that will be split between Sotheby's and West Hollywood, California-based Julien's.

The auction had about 4,500 approved bidders by its second day, said Kristin Gelder, a Sotheby's spokeswoman. There were far more bidders online, putting in absentee bids and bidding by phone than in the 300-seat auction room, which was less than half-full even after half the seats had been removed.

Cher, born Cherilyn Sarkisian, started recording hit songs in the 1960s when she partnered with songwriter and producer Sonny Bono, whom she later married and divorced. They became famous with their song ``I Got You Babe,'' and their TV show ``The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour.''

A film career in the 1980s garnered Cher, 60, an Academy Award nomination for her supporting role in ``Silkwood'' and a best-actress Oscar for ``Moonstruck.'' In 1999, her Grammy- winning song ``Believe'' topped the charts in more than 20 countries, and she is the only artist to have top-10 hits in each decade since the 1960s.

The artwork with the highest estimated pre-auction price was a mid-17th-century oil painting by Italian artist Ercole Procaccini the Younger, which was estimated at $30,000 to $50,000 and sold for just $30,000 with the buyer's premium. A 1971 LeRoy Neiman acrylic portrait of Sonny, Cher and their daughter, Chastity, which was estimated at $4,000 to $6,000, sold for $48,000.

An 18-inch Van Cleef & Arpels necklace with an alternating pattern of round and marquise-shaped diamonds weighing about 38 carats was the most expensive piece of jewelry in the auction, with an estimated sale price of $40,000 to $60,000. It went for $90,000 with premium to a phone bidder.

A Mackie-designed rock-and-roll outfit, made partly of see- through black netting, and a matching black motorcycle jacket sold for $60,000 with premium, more than the $2,000-to-$3,000 estimate. The outfit, worn by Cher during numerous concert performances, was won by Brigitte Poublon.

Poublon is married to former teen idol Bobby Sherman, who appeared on ``The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour'' in 1972. She also won, for $16,800, a jet-black wig with silver rhinestones that had a $600-to-$800 estimate. The items will be displayed in one of Poublon and Sherman's Los Angeles-area homes, said Poublon's assistant, Stephanie Galeas, who bid on her boss's behalf.

The final outfit to be auctioned, a beaded, floral-print Mackie gown estimated at $5,000 to $7,000, went for $24,000 to a phone bidder. A table lamp made from a taxidermied armadillo, a gift to Cher from Gene Simmons, co-founder of the 1970s rock band Kiss, was estimated at $300 to $500 and sold for $3,500, also to a phone bidder.

``It is the ultimate conversation piece,'' joked auctioneer Leila ``Lee'' Dunbar, director of Sotheby's collectibles department, during the bidding.

All of the items put up for auction were sold. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Cher Charitable Foundation, which aids groups including the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, Operation Helmet and the Children's Craniofacial Association.

Cher items snapped up at auction
Cher
Cher is renowned for her jewellery-encrusted costumes
Possessions belonging to singer and actress Cher have been sold at an auction in Los Angeles.

Items that came under the hammer in Beverly Hills included her rhinestone costumes and a pair of fur boots which belonged to ex-husband Sonny Bono.

Some gowns sold for more than their estimated $6,000 (£3,200). A 1970s record player fetched $1,400 (£745).

The sale is expected to raise $1m for charity, while Cher will use some proceeds to renovate her home.

'Doesn't care'

She is replacing the Gothic decorations of her Malibu mansion in favour of a Moroccan-Tibetan look.

A long-standing fan of the performer, Chris Gayton from Palm Springs in California, said: "I thought it would be interesting to have some pieces of her memorabilia.

"She does what she wants to do and doesn't care what people think."

Among the 800 personal effects in the two-day auction is a Bentley coupe, works of art and furniture - including a bed.

Cher auction raises $3.5 million

Outfits, furniture and other items receive high bids from loyal - and wealthy - fans.

Legendary singer Cher has auctioned off several items from her home and personal collection, with the highest bid going to a black leather-and-fishnet outfit for $60,000.

Nearly 700 other items also went on sale, including a Bentley that sold for over $200,000 and a circa 1865 brass bed for over $80,000.

Cher, who was traveling during the auction, was surprised by the high bids her items received, said Darren Julien, the president of the firm running the auction.

Julien added that Cher has also requested photos from the winners with their new items.

"She jokingly said to me, 'I want to do that to know they're appreciated and cared for, and I can call those people in case I want to buy them back.'"

Cher announced the auction in July as a way of preparing her home for redecorating. In addition, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to several charity organizations.

GENE SIMMONS' Gift To CHER Auctioned Off - Oct. 6, 2006
A table lamp made from a taxidermied armadillo, a gift to actress/singer Cher from Gene Simmons, co-founder of the 1970s rock band KISS, was estimated at $300 to $500 and sold for $3,500 to a phone bidder during a two-day auction of Cher's belongings that ended Wednesday (Oct. 4) in Beverly Hills. About 780 items sold for a total of $3.54 million. Julien's Auctions and New York-based Sotheby's, which ran the sale together, had estimated that sales would reach $1.4 million to $1.6 million.

"It is the ultimate conversation piece," joked auctioneer Leila "Lee" Dunbar, director of Sotheby's collectibles department, during the bidding.

Beyoncé Cops Old Cher Costumes

October 3, 2006

Singer Cher will auction off more than a closet full of gowns, costumes, and jewelry this week, and Beyoncé has already put her bid in for several of the items.

According to Miss Jones, a DJ on New York’s Hot 97 radio station, the “Ring the Alarm” singer is a huge Cher fan, and more specifically, a fan of the elaborate gowns the singer wore during her days as co-star on the hit 70’s show “The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour.”

No word as to whether Beyoncé will actually wear the dresses in upcoming appearances or shows.

The gowns, along with more than 700 Cher-owned pieces, including costumes, jewelry, furniture, and paintings will be auctioned by Sotheby’s and Julien’s Auctions today and tomorrow at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills California.

A portion of the auction proceeds will benefit The Cher Charitable Foundation, which aids organizations such as The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, Operation Helmet, and The Children’s Craniofacial Association.

Buying up Cher's

Star to sell gowns & jewels

The Bob Mackie gown Cher wore to the 1998 Oscars is among those she's auctioning at Sotheby's.
Cher is turning back time.

The actress and entertainer, who turned 60 in May, is auctioning off her designer gowns along with $1 million worth of property and jewelry collected over a remarkable 40-year career.

The auction is set for Los Angeles on Oct. 3-4, but New Yorkers will get a free look at many of her trademark Bob Mackie gowns when Sotheby's puts them on display for six days beginning today.

Featured here will be almost two dozen Mackie original gowns and costumes, including the outfit she wore to the 1998 Oscars ceremony (estimate $5,000) and the full-length red velvet gown with matching high-collar full length cap (estimated $3,000) she wore on her May 4, 1975, TV show.

"Cher is the only artist to have top 10 hits in every decade since the 1960s, an amazing achievement," said Lee Dunbar, director of Sotheby's collectibles department. "She has influenced every generation with her immense talent and her leadership in fashion and style."

She first teamed up with Sonny Bono, her one-time mentor and husband, in the mid-1960s and the couple became an overnight sensation with, "I Got You Babe."

She won an Oscar for Best Actress in the Brooklyn-centered flick, "Moonstruck," and was nominated for an Oscar for her performance in "Silkwood." She also has won a Grammy, an Emmy and three Golden Globes.

The collection will also feature 85 lots of personal jewelry, many with cross motifs; and paintings, furniture and decorative art from her Malibu home. A plantinum and diamond necklace from Van Cleef & Arpels has an asking price of $40,000; one Old Master painting, "The Holy Family Served by Angels," is estimated to go from $30,000 to $50,000.

The display at Sotheby's, 1334 York Ave. at 72rd St., follows similar displays in Chicago and London.

Cher Likes To Smear Stuff On Her Face

Cher Goes To Washington

Cher Goes to Washington: Click to Watch!Cher may have completed her seemingly never ending farewell tour last year, but she's not shying away from the limelight post musical retirement.  The first big time single-named female pop star is lending her famous moniker to  Operation-Helmet.org.

The non-partisan Operation-Helmet's stated goals are to provide free helmet upgrade kits to U.S. troops serving abroad in Iraq and Afghanistan. The kits are designed to increase safety and comfort for the soldiers in battlefield conditions.

To help get the message out, Cher will take to the airwaves on C-Span's 'Washington Journal' this Thursday morning. Cher will even appear in the building, where her late-husband Sonny Bono served as a California Congressman, when she appears with Operation-Helmet leaders to testify before a House Armed Services Subcommittee that same afternoon. Cher also took up the troops' cause by calling in at a very early hout to the C-Span show on Memorial Day weekend to endorse the helmet campaign.

This is not, of course, Cher's first attempt at comforting the troops. We all remember her famous video for "If I Could Turn Back Time" where she straddled a big gun turret aboard the battleship USS Missouri surrounded by all those Navy uniforms. Hopefully, Cher will wear more than a few strips of clothing when she appears before Congress this week.

Cher has been cleaning house, recording new album

Dear Stacy: What’s happened to Cher? She’s been out of the limelight for years! — Barb, Newton, N.J.

Dear Barb: No, she’s been out of the limelight since April of 2005, when she concluded her three-year, 325-date “Living Proof Farewell Tour,” which grossed $250 million-plus and played to more than three million people.

However, the 60-year-old superstar will be back in the center of attention next month, when she’s auctioning off some 700 items — including Bob Mackie-designed costumes, a 2003 H2 Hummer, furniture, artwork, jewelry (including some pieces she made herself) and a terra-cotta figurine of Jesus Christ from the 16th century — so she can redecorate her Malibu home.

The auction is expected to bring in more than $1 million, according to Sotheby’s, one of two firms administering it, and a chunk of the proceeds will go to her charity foundation.

She has been recording, and the expectation is she’ll have an album out under her current Warner Bros. Records deal in 2007. The following year, she’s expected to have her own stage show at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas.

Cher turns back time

September 11, 2006

Cher. To drop her name and describe her as a style icon in the same sentence is redundant. Just hear the name and an image (or 10) springs to mind.

Now picture this: Cher is redecorating her Malibu home, and she's putting some of her jewelry, memorabilia and costumes on the auction block. A Chicago preview, featuring gowns and jewelry from the sale, opens to the public Tuesday and Wednesday at Sotheby's Chicago, 188 E. Walton.

And Thursday night, about 20 of Cher's Bob Mackie gowns -- immortalized on television and on tour, and about to go to the highest bidder -- get a workout on the runway at the 80th annual Rush Fashion Show at Symphony Center. Local celebs and women active in Chicago philanthrophy will take Cher's size-zero dresses for a stroll. This year's fund-raiser benefits the hospital's Heart and Vascular Center.

It all leads up to the total 700 lots of paintings, furniture, decorative works of art, clothing and jewelry -- plus three vehicles -- going on display at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, Sept. 29-Oct. 2, in advance of the two-day auction, Oct. 3-4.

"I am beginning a new chapter in my career and have decided to rewrite my personal environment, my home," Cher said in a press release from Sotheby's, which is partnering with Julien's Auctions on the sale. "I am excited to have the opportunity to share part of my collection with those who have followed my life and career. I'm thrilled that the sale of many of these beloved objects will benefit such worthwhile organizations and charities."

An unspecified portion of the proceeds from the sale will benefit the Cher Charitable Foundation, which donates to various organizations. Prices of items up for auction range from the hundreds to the tens of thousands of dollars.

The sale includes 400 lots of furniture and home decorations; 90 lots of jewelry, including a 30-carat Van Cleef & Arpels diamond necklace; 200 lots of clothing; 15 gold records; 30 lots of shoes; seven pocketbooks; a 2005 Bentley coupe; a 2003 H2 Hummer, and a 1956 customized Chevy truck.

Cher decided to "reinvent her surroundings" after her three-year Living Proof Farewell Tour, said Lee Dunbar, director of Sotheby's collectibles department, who was part of a team that spent a month at the entertainer's Malibu estate cataloging items for the auction.

"When I got off the road, something happened and I said 'You know, I think it's time to do something different,' " Cher told the Associated Press in a July interview. "But my house is so full that there's no way to do something different unless I totally change it."

The interior of Cher's 16,000-square-foot Italian Renaissance-style residence on the bluffs of Malibu, built in the early '90s, had been decorated in Gothic Revival style, with Old Master and 19th century paintings. Jason Preston, Sotheby's specialist in fine and decorative arts, called the collection "intriguing." Cher is parting with an 1865 Gothic Revival brass bed with an estimated worth of $20,000 to 30,000 and a 400-year-old Italian painting of "The Holy Family Served by Angels" valued at up to $50,000.

Her new interior design will be "a much more multicultural setting. She wants to explore a group of cultures, Moroccan to Tibetan, and kind of put them in a crazy quilt," Dunbar said. "When we were there, a couple of Buddhas were delivered."

Cher, who turned 60 in May, has won an Oscar, a Grammy, an Emmy and three Golden Globes in a 40-year career that spans music, films, television and the stage.

"In terms of personal style, she's an icon, but she's a chameleon," Dunbar said. "She started out in the '60s with Sonny as a fashion trend-setter. They helped jump-start that whole trend of bell bottoms and funky vests. A few years later she started with the Bob Mackie beaded gowns. Half the audience would tune in [to "The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour" and "The Cher Show"] to see what she was wearing.

"She was the first to bare her belly button on TV. Not even Barbara Eden did that on 'I Dream of Jeanie'," Dunbar said. "She's continued to evolve over 40 years. I think her credo is to be forever young, or forever alive. No matter what age she's at, I think she's constantly exploring, which is one reason why she decided to do this auction."

The second-to-last item on the auction block, Dunbar said, will be a needlework pillow, estimated value between $200 and $300, probably given to the singer as a gift. On one side is stitched: "Name two things that will survive a nuclear war." On the other side: "Cockroaches and Cher."

Descriptions and photographs of all 700 items are in a softcover catalog available for $55 at www.sothebys.com or by phone at (888) 752-0002. The auction house printed 500 hardcover catalogs. Signed by Cher and priced at $250, they went quickly.

Out with old, in with new as Cher sheds Gothic

By Jeremy Lovell

LONDON (Reuters) - Fashion icon and award-winning singer and actress Cher is clearing her Malibu home of its Gothic contents and reshaping her life in a giant garage sale.

Following a trend set by rock star Elton John, Cher is selling off nearly 800 items from stage costumes to gem encrusted jewellery, works of art, furniture and even a huge Hummer car in an auction expected to raise more than $1 million (525,000 pounds).

"This is a lot more than a garage sale. Apart from the dresses and jewels there are Old Masters and architectural drawings," said Darren Julien of Julien's auctions.

"She has a huge following. She is an icon. Her career in song, stage and screen has spanned nearly four decades," he told Reuters as some of the items went on show in London on Monday ahead of the sale in Los Angeles on October 3-4.

The sale is being jointly organised by Sotheby's New York office and Julien's of the United States.

Among the items on show are several dresses by star designer Bob Mackie, white and yellow gold rings and necklaces and a book of architectural drawings by 19th century Gothic Revivalist Augustus Pugin.

Cher, born Cherylin Sarkisian in May 1946, first hit fame alongside Sonny Bono with the 1965 hit "I got you babe", and her roller-coaster career has been echoed by her turbulent and often front-page private life.

OSCAR WINNER

An Oscar nominee for "Silkwood" and winner for "Moonstruck", she has also won a Grammy, an Emmy and been awarded Best Actress by the Cannes Film Festival and won three Golden Globes.

But she is probably equally well known for her willowy, body and contour-hugging flamboyant dresses.

"She decided a while ago that she wanted to sell off a few things and change her style, and it grew from that to this collection of some 200 gowns and costumes and nearly 800 items in total," Julien said.

"She is redecorating her home, going for a Moroccan-Tibetan look and selling the Gothic revival items," he added, noting that the mannequins supporting the dresses had to be especially made because of Cher's special figure.

But not all the money from the sale at the Beverly Hilton will go back into Cher's home, an undeclared but "substantial" portion will go to a range of charities that she supports, Julien said.

And it is not as though she needs the money -- in 2002 the Rolling Stone magazine estimated her personal wealth at $600 million.

Cher’s son once had sex with Paris Hilton and feared he got an STD. September 7, 2006

Free Image Hosting - www.supload.com

Paris Hilton is furious with Cher’s son for claiming the two had sex and worrying he caught a sexually transmitted disease from her.

Elijah Blue Allman, Cher’s son by rocker Gregg Allman, went on the raunchy Howard Stern radio show last week, boasting he had a fling with Hilton before she became famous.

Allman, who is the lead singer and guitarist for the band Deadsy, claims that after the encounter he became so worried he might have contracted something he scrubbed down his private parts with the household bathroom cleaner Tilex.

According to MSNBC.com’s The Scoop, a source claims Hilton is “not happy” about his comments, even though he described Hilton as a “sweet girl.”

Allman also said he had sex years ago with Hilton’s reality show co-star and former best friend Nicole Richie and claims the two are still friends. . . . . .

Cher wore this Bob Mackie 'garter' gown when she appeared on the cover of 'People' Magazine's Oct. 22, 1979 issue. It has a pre-sale estimate of $1,000 to $1,500.

Cher's velvet Bob Mackie gown was worn on 'The Cher Show' May 4, 1975. The gown, sold with a matching cape, is expected to sell in the $3,000 to $5,000 range.

Before Madonna began her climb toward ultimate style-star status, there was — and still is — Cher.

And Cher, remember, has something Madonna will probably never possess: an Oscar for Best Actress (for her role in 1987's Moonstruck, lest you forget).

An upcoming auction will give admirers of the multitalented singer and actress, who has won Emmys, Grammys and Golden Globes as well, a chance to own something Chastity's mother once did. Like Madonna, Cher is indeed a material girl.

On Oct. 3 and 4, Sotheby's with California-based Julien's Auctions will sell more than 700 lots of costumes, jewelry, memorabilia, decorative arts, furniture and works of art from Cher's Malibu residence at The Beverly Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif.

Some of the proceeds will benefit The Cher Charitable Foundation, which aids organizations such as The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, Operation Helmet and The Children's Craniofacial Association.

"Cher has always had a progressive and innovative style from her fashion to her homes," said Darren Julien, president of Julien's Auctions.

The fashion portion of the sale includes approximately 200 items from Cher's professional and personal wardrobes, including an array of original gowns and Cher-style "get-ups" designed by Bob Mackie. Ensembles, some of them quite outrageous, from her appearances on the red carpet and on the television shows The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour and The Cher Show are also up for grabs.

There are 85 lots of jewelry from Cher's collection, including necklaces, rings, bracelets, earrings and chokers, many featuring cross motifs. Several hand-beaded pieces made by Cher herself are included.

Besides the furniture and paintings from the Malibu house, there is also a vehicle, a 2003 H2 Hummer, offered at the Cher auction.

Soft-cover catalogs, $50, can be purchased by calling (888) 752-0002 or by calling Sotheby's island office, 317 Peruvian Ave., 833-2582. The office can also provide information on bidding procedures. A limited-edition hardcover sale catalog, autographed by Cher, is available for $250.

Soldier on — New Yorkers John Betz and Patrick Gray want to rally support for the troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, but without getting political about it.

They are selling a collection of T-shirts online through their Web site, www.takepride.com.

"Unlike prior symbols of support for the troops, our shirts are unique in that they are actually stylish and hip," said Gray. "We wanted to create something that people throughout the U.S., but in particular younger and more fashion-conscious people, would not only be willing to wear, but would enjoy wearing."

"Beyond looking cool, however, the shirts also convey meaning," he said. "Each design is inspired by the actual experiences of service members who are serving or have recently served in Iraq or Afghanistan.

"By focusing on individuals, we hope to 'humanize the troops' and give people a reference point for better understanding what the larger group is going through," Gray said.

Take Pride's hand-screened cotton T-shirts are $20 to $22, with Betz and Gray donating 20 percent of sales proceeds to military-related charities, such as the Disabled American Veterans, which just received a $650 donation from initial sales

But hey - should we really be surprised at Cher's togetherness? I'm pretty sure she's paid a heap o' money to the Lasky Institute to keep herself looking "together" over these past sixty years -- and it was worth every penny!

Cher writers in royalties war

 Tuesday August 1, 10:40 AM

Cher's 1998 chart-topping hit Believe is at the centre of a furious legal spat, with the two writers behind the track insisting they are owed GBP300,000 in royalties.

Paul Barry and Mark Taylor, who are fighting music publishers Rive Droite, were previously described as the company's "star" songwriters, but their relationship has since turned sour.

Rive Droite's lawyer Nigel Angel says, "Barry's claim is being vigorously denied and we don't accept its validity."

Cher - auctioning off clothes

Cher is auctioning off her clothes for charity.

The singer - famed for her unique sense of style - has revealed she will sell some of her professional and personal wardrobe at Sotheby's and Julien's auction houses.

She said

"I am beginning a new chapter in my career and have decided to rewrite my personal environment, my home."

Among the 200 pieces of clothing to be auctioned is the original Bob Mackie dress she wore to the Oscars in 1986 and a black net gown with multicoloured dots worn in 1974 on TV show 'The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour'.

The Oscar-winning 'Moonstruck' actress also plans to auction off furniture, including her Gothic brass bed, artwork and jewellery.

The auction is expected to raise more than $1 million and will be held in October. Some of the money raised will go to The Cher Charitable Foundation.

Cher to auction 700 items from her home

Cher to auction 700 items from her home

LOS ANGELES - Come October, the highest bidder can sleep in Cher's bed. It's one of 700 items from the superstar's Malibu home that will be auctioned beginning Oct. 3. The sale includes furniture, artwork, jewelry, a 2003 H2 Hummer and original costumes by Bob Mackie.

The auction is expected to bring in more than $1 million, said Lee Dunbar of Sotheby's, one of two firms administering the auction. The other firm is Julien's Auctions.

A "nice percentage" of the proceeds will benefit the Cher Charitable Foundation, the 60-year-old singer-actress said.

"I'm truly excited about it, having had this stuff for so many years," Cher told The Associated Press in a recent interview. "I'm only keeping about five items from everything I have."

She decided to put the items up for auction so she can redecorate.

"When I got off the road, something happened and I said, `You know, I think it's time to do something different,'" Cher said. "But my house is so full that there's no way to do something different unless I totally change it."

Cher has collected neo-Gothic art and furniture for more than 25 years. Among the items offered in the auction: a Gothic revival brass bed, circa 1865; an oak reading table; a pair of painted brass chandeliers; and a 16th-century terra-cotta figurine of Jesus Christ.

She plans to redo her home in a mix of styles inspired by Morocco and Tibet. "It sounds crazy, but I'm going to try to mix a whole bunch of cultures together."

About 200 pieces from her extensive wardrobe and costume collection will be sold, including outfits featured on "The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour" and an original Mackie-designed gown she wore to Oscars.

"The amount of costumes I have is staggering, so this doesn't even make a dent," she said.

She will also auction 85 pieces of jewelry, including beaded items she made herself.

Auction highlights will travel to Sotheby's locations in London, Chicago and New York before the full exhibition opens at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Sept. 29. A preview exhibition is now on view at the Beverly Hilton.

"I have loved everything I ever bought," Cher said. "I have loved them and kept them for all these years and now it's time for them to go on."

Cher has decided to "rewrite my personal environment" and sell some her bling for charity.

The singer and actress, whose unique sense of style has been featured in fashion magazines, plans to sell some of her famous wardrobe for charity.

Sotheby's and Julien's Auctions today said they planned an October 3-4 sale of 200 items from the Oscar winner's professional and personal wardrobe.

The clothing, along with some of Cher's furniture, artwork and jewellery, could raise more than $1 million, according to the auction houses.

Among the gowns to be sold is a Bob Mackie original worn by Cher to the Academy Awards, and a black net gown with multicoloured embroidered dots and stones she wore on The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour television show in 1974.

"I am beginning a new chapter in my career and have decided to rewrite my personal environment, my home," Cher said in a statement.

Some of the money raised from the sale will go to The Cher Charitable Foundation, which supports a number of causes.

from Liz Smith's gossip column - Tuesday, July 25, 2006

Before CHER takes over the former "Celine Dion Room" (actually a vast theater!) in Las Vegas for her several-season stint, the indestructible star will begin recording a new album. All I know is that the disc will not be especially dance-driven, and the star herself is "very enthusiastic" about the material. Now, as Cher tends to be on the laconic side, to describe her as "very enthusiastic" actually translates as if the top of her head has exploded.

Not Cher, just two reasonable facsimiles. (Photos by Paula Guzzo)
Not Cher, just two reasonable facsimiles. (Photos by Paula Guzzo)
After the nuclear holocaust there’ll be cockroaches and Cher.” We were reading one of the T-shirts in a booth set up inside the grand ballroom of the Woodland Hills Warner Center Marriott for the Cher Convention 2006. We’d seen Nine Inch Nails the night before, so, no, we don’t exactly worship at the altar of Cher. Those awful club hits like the ubiquitous “Believe” of ’98 turned the pop-and-TV icon into a dinosaur disco dolly in our eyes. And yet, we must admit that we’ve stood in front of the mirror, licked our lips and tossed back our hair while singing into a hairbrush . . . “They say we’re young and we don’t know . . .”

Drag queens are our beat, and wherever female impersonators gather for a special occasion and good cause (in this case, the nonprofit Children’s Craniofacial Association), so do we.

From the looks of all the flip-flops at the Marriott, Cher’s demographic consists mostly of suburban families, gay men and the occasional curious hotel guest wandering in from the pool area. And what a wonderfully wacky world to stumble upon: 10,000 square feet of Cher Christmas ornaments, Frisbees, shoelaces, rulers, change purses and more. (Somewhere out there, there’s an urn with Cher’s mug on it containing the ashes of a dead fan.)

At Star Wares Collectibles, we found racks of Cher’s clothes, shoes and accessories for sale, including original Mackie costumes — yours for only $2,500, one pink, fringed gown — as well as cowboy boots and hair scrunchies. Here, we learned at least one important fact about Cher, née Cherilyn Sarkisian La Piere: She has small feet — size 7.

Our attention soon shifted to Angelica Joyce, who wore her idol on her shirt, skirt and purse. “And these are Cher’s glasses,” she proudly pointed out. She mentioned wanting to grab a hat with lights and feathers from her car, but thought it would be a bit much.

In the back of the ballroom, Javier Ozuna’s living museum held more Mackie costumes, dolls (Cher as a bride, Cher as Elvis, Cher as Cleopatra), children’s play sets, a denim jacket with “Follow This, You Bitches” studded on the back, and even a plastic Halloween pumpkin carved in Cher’s likeness. While examining a plumed headdress, we noticed all the mannequins were built to look like Cher, including the charm-bracelet tattoo on the arm of one dummy. Their eyes seemed to follow us wherever we went.

We could have caught the Cher career seminar, accompanied by slides, but who wants to listen to a bunch of talking heads when you can watch episodes of The Cher Show that have her duetting with the likes of Wayne Newton, the Spinners and the Jackson 5? Then came the conventioneers’ poetry readings. Allow us to share a haiku by Christopher Brisson: “Gave daughter ridiculous name. Came out a proud a lesbian.” Funny, touching.

The picture taking turned into a frenzy once the male and female impersonators started trickling in. Catherine Marie Carter, in American Indian garb, is a U.K. native and came with her own Sonny (Mark Parry). And Chad Michaels not only impersonates Cher but also moonlights as a Céline Dion and Marilyn Manson look-alike.

For a Family Feud–style game between the impersonators and layman fans, the laymen won the first round, though a layman from Phoenix was stumped on the question “What was Cher’s worst career move?” Hello! Lori Davis’ hair-care products. One doesn’t win a second Oscar peddling shampoo on late-night infomercials.

The impersonator show, which was supposed to be the highlight of the event, was a bit anticlimactic; instead of “Half Breed,” “Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves,” “The Beat Goes On” or even “I Got You Babe,” we heard Cher’s late-career dance numbers from the ’80s and ’90s. Michaels did, however, get all the mannerisms (peace sign, lip licking) down perfect, and Carter was brave enough to sport tattoos on her ass. Wayne Smith, who’d emceed the auction earlier in the day, sang live and came as close to sounding like the real deal as one can while wearing a white furry robe resembling a pack of dead huskies.

By then, the booths were packed up and the hotel waiters were getting the ballroom ready for the evening’s dinner and awards ceremony. We snuck out, knowing we’d miss the next day’s Cher bus tour, but happy to have our commemorative convention water bottles and enough new Cher knowledge to host our own seminar one day.

    Cher: ‘I support the troops’

    Todd Goodman / U.S. Army
Cher talks with Spc. Hollis Richardson at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany last week. Richardson was injured in a rocket-propelled grenade attack in Iraq.

During her visit to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center on Wednesday, Cher sat down with Stars and Stripes for 15 minutes to explain why she made the trip, how she can be against the war in Iraq but for the troops, and why she’s going to Iraq — just not during summertime.

It didn’t take much prying to get the timeless singer and Oscar-winning actress to speak her mind. Below are excerpts from the interview. United Service Organizations helped coordinate Cher’s visit to Landstuhl.

You recorded the “If I Could Turn Back Time” video on the USS Missouri in that jaw-dropping outfit. Now you’ve given $130,000 to Operation Helmet. You’ve been to Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Now you’re here at Landstuhl. What’s your connection to the military? Why do you do it?

Well, I’m actually not sure. I didn’t start out to do it. I told these guys a story that happened to me when I was back in the Vietnam days where I got this MIA (missing in action) bracelet. I wore it for a long time. Almost the whole time I was doing “The Sonny and Cher Show.” My guy was named Lieutenant Hayden Lockhart Jr. I just wore it. I’m not even sure my whole heart was in it. I just really started wearing it because it was kind of the thing to do. And then, I kind of got into it. …

And then I met him. He came on the show, and I got to give him back the bracelet. So since then, I started going to hospitals. There’s a VA (Veterans Affairs) hospital in California. Then I was on tour and went to Walter Reed. Then, I was totally hooked.

    ’Round about when was that?

A year and a half ago, something like that. I got involved in the Intrepid Fund (which will construct a training center for troops disabled during operations in Afghanistan and Iraq). I couldn’t believe they were having a hard time getting money for that. So I kind of got involved in that. And then, one of my dearest friends is a man named Lou Dobbs, who has a TV show on CNN. He and I were talking about the war all the time. Even though we had different views on it, I love him. So it would be interesting for me to get his views as opposed to arguing.

After visiting Walter Reed, then Bethesda (home to the National Naval Medical Center) and Walter Reed again — after meeting these guys and the women too — I’m just so shocked that there are still people in the country like that because a lot of the kids that I come in contact with, they’re still very — it’s not exactly that they’re selfish; they just don’t have any concept of what the kids in the military are doing and what it’s about to actually go someplace where you could possibly lose your life.

The things that I’ve seen at Walter Reed and the things that I’ve seen at Bethesda are much worse than the things I saw in the Vietnam times. There are more of them that I actually have come in contact with, and the injuries are so bad. Then I talked to Dr. (Bob) Meaders — the whole thing about the helmet fund. I just got involved. Then I went to Washington, D.C., and it just keeps going. I met somebody there. I don’t know who is he is.

(Landstuhl commander) Col. (Bryan) Gamble, maybe?

He must be a big guy because everybody was like, “Yes, sir. Yes, sir. Yes, sir.” Yeah. I was too stupid to know, but he was like, “Cher, you’ve got to come to so and so.” I’m like, “Alright.” And here I am.

What’s been your impression of the troops here you’ve talked to?

It’s not different than the other ones I’ve talked to. They want to get better to get back to their unit. The main thing that people say is they want to get better. They want to go back. Obviously, I can’t speak for them, but it seems to me that going back to their buddies is more important than almost anything else. Going back to their group. Going back to their unit. Going back to their friends. It happened today and it happened a lot at Walter Reed.

It’s been quoted that you’re against the war in Iraq but for the troops. Explain that. Help me understand that. How can you be against the war but for the troops?

I don’t have to be for this war to support the troops because these men and women do what they think is right. They do what they’re told to do. They do it with a really good heart. They do the best they can. They don’t ask for anything.

They just do what they’re supposed to do. So, my beef is not with them at all. I want to go to Baghdad; I’m really excited about doing that. I don’t want to go in the summer, however. I want to go when it cools down a little bit.…

Is that plan in the works right now?

It’s hard. I was supposed to be brought here by the congressmen, but if I waited for them, I wouldn’t be here. I really came because (Col. Gamble) said come over there. I want to go to Baghdad and this congressman asked me if I wanted to go. I said yes. `

Will you do any performing there?

Just talking and going to meet the guys. I’d like to go outside of the Green Zone. I’d like to go to other places. …

    Why would you do that?

It would be really exciting for me to go and see people who don’t expect to see anybody. Also, it seems really — when I say this it’s going to sound dumb — but it seems like the least you could do. People are there. They’re fighting. Even though I don’t believe in the war, if they’re there, they’re fighting, it seems like it would be a good place to be.

Talk about Operation Helmet and what the goal is there.

Dr. Meaders was just trying to do something for his grandson and then for his grandson’s squad. People started hearing about it. I guess other squads … were in contact with them and that’s when he formed the thing. He could no longer afford it by himself and just started getting donations.

I’m very disappointed in the amount of support that the soldiers are getting from the people back home. It’s kind of like it’s just a thing you hear on the news, and nobody does anything. Where is everybody?

Should we expect to see any more military-centric music videos with you wearing provocative outfits?

(Laughing) I think those days are over for me. It just happened that we were on that boat, and it was great. All these sailors were so funny because they all kept calling me “ma’am” as well. It was so weird. Here I am almost naked with all these young sailors, calling me “ma’am.” Actually, we ended up getting along great and laughing the whole time.

… I can’t speak for everyone, but everyone seems to be against the war but not realizing that that’s not good enough. You’ve got to do something besides just be against it. You’ve got to do some helping as well. People have got to get their [expletive] together.

    Cher & soldiers

Cher speaks to hundreds of troops Wednesday afternoon at Landstuhl’s Heaton auditorium.

LANDSTUHL, Germany — An overflow crowd gathered in Landstuhl Regional Medical Center’s Heaton Auditorium late Wednesday afternoon to see a living legend in entertainment.Cher, the singer/actress whose popularity and looks have spanned generations, spent hours Wednesday afternoon visiting with wounded troops and thanking the Landstuhl staff for the job they perform.

“I’ve been to Walter Reed (Army Medical Center),” she said. “I’ve been to Bethesda (home to the National Naval Medical Center). Now coming here, I have to tell you something … You guys are unbelievable. I see the best care, the most heartfelt care.”

Cher, who says she is against the war in Iraq but supports the troops, has long been a morale booster for troops. Seventeen years ago, she recorded the video for “If I Could Turn Back Time” on the deck of the USS Missouri, while wearing a barely-there outfit surrounded by throngs of sailors.

Recently, she donated $130,000 to Operation Helmet, an organization that buys troops helmet linings that protect against concussive blasts. Just last month, Cher appeared before the House Armed Services Committee supporting an effort for better military helmets.

The Oscar-winning actress told Wednesday’s crowd that she was ordered to visit the hospital by Landstuhl Commander Col. Bryan Gamble when the two met recently at Walter Reed. She decided to make the trip and traveled from France on Wednesday to the hospital.

She spent roughly an hour visiting seriously wounded troops in the intensive care unit before going to the hospital’s other wings. Once outside the ICU, nearly everywhere she went fans armed with digital cameras and pens pleaded for photos and autographs.

Maj. Sylvia Garcia, a head nurse of two wings at Landstuhl, managed to snap a few pictures of Cher.

“She is a high-power woman,” Garcia said. “We’re very fortunate that she’s speaking out for us. These sorts of things, people coming here, have such a big impact on all the soldiers — not only on the workers and staff, but the patients as well.”

Cher’s visit made a big impact on Spc. Hollis Richardson, who is recovering from rocket-propelled grenade injuries suffered in a July 9 attack north of Baghdad. The svelte singer slid into bed with Richardson, to snap a photo, which Cher then signed.

“It’s kind of nice to have supporters and have people come by who actually care,” said Richardson, 22, of Fort Worth, Texas. “She’s just trying to cheer people up in a situation that’s not too cheerful.”

Asked if he had any favorite Cher song, Richardson said he’d have to work on that.

“She’s a little bit before my time,” he said. “I may have to go pick up a CD or two now.”

On Thursday, Cher planned to visit the medical holding facility for the walking wounded at Kleber Kaserne and the Contingency Aeromedical Staging Facility at Ramstein Air Base.

    today Cher's article

Admirers throng to Cher-fest July 12, 2006 By Carol Rock and Connie Llanos Los Angeles Daily News WOODLAND HILLS — John Hostetler and Mike Leech paid $1,500 Saturday for a pink and silver dress designed by Bob Mackie and worn in 1979 by singer Cher. The dress will join some 4,000 8-by-10 photos, posters and other Cher memorabilia in a joint collection maintained by the pair, who knew they had found true love when they realized both were Cher fans. "It was like, 'Hey, I love Cher.' 'Oh, yeah, me, too,'" Hostetler said. Hostetler and Leech were among the fans at last weekend's Cher Convention, which filled the Warner Center Marriott grand ballroom with Cher dresses, Cher jewelry, Cher dolls, Cher mannequins and Cher impersonators, who challenged fans to answer questions about the entertainer's various movies, looks and boyfriends. This is the fourth such gathering of an unofficial group of Cher aficionados, originally organized to celebrate Cher fans' success in 1999 in convincing radio stations to play her song "Believe." Convention organizers Judy Didelot and Linda Alamprese don't consider themselves fanatics, but declare their respect and admiration for the metamorphoses of the entertainer, who had her first hit song as a teenager with then-husband Sonny Bono in 1965, had No. 1 songs in the 1970s, '80s and '90s, and meanwhile had a popular TV show and earned a Best Actress Oscar. "Her ability to keep going is really admirable," Alamprese said, admitting to attending concerts dating back to the Sonny and Cher days. "Her music makes me feel good. I never get tired of the production. She pulls you in." Mannequins displayed costumes being sold to help defray convention costs and raise money for one of Cher's favorite charities, the Children's Craniofacial Association, with which Cher became involved after acting in the movie "Mask," about a boy with a craniofacial deformity. Javier Ozuna, a 35-year Cher fan, brought to the convention dozens of Cher dolls. The dolls were produced in the entertainer's likeness in the 1970s and Ozuna has dressed them in tiny copies of Bob Mackie dresses originally made for Barbie dolls. Ozuna said a recent Cher dress purchase shook him out of a bout of depression that followed the death of his mother. "Cher has been my choice of drug," Ozuna said. Cher albums taught Chihuahua, Mexico, native Jesus Medina to speak English. Cher's attraction, Medina said, is "a combination of personality and talent." "She is not the best singer, but she is very unique and that sets her apart," Medina said. Chad Michaels, a 35-year-old former MAC makeup artist, for seven years has made a living impersonating Cher. "I've worked with 'Dream Girls' here in Los Angeles and have done 'La Cage Aux Folles' in Vegas, traveled to London in 1999 and South America in 2001," he said. Michaels grew up watching Cher on television at home, but what attracted him was her lifestyle. "It is her reckless abandon and her ability to do whatever she wants," Michaels said. Scott Clark drove from Sonoma in Northern California to gather more items for what his partner refers to as "the Cher room" in their home. "I just love her way of reinventing herself," Clark said. "She tells people to 'Accept me as I am' when she doesn't fit the part, and I don't think we have that kind of determination."
