The following information is from Summer 2008. We will update this page in Spring 2009. Thanks!
WELCOME to the 2008 Maple Grove Tennis Ladder. I’m the director, Tim Theisen. The rules of the league are below.
This is an active league – you need to take the initiative to call people to set up your own matches. There is no set schedule; you can play as often or as seldom as you want. League matches may begin May 1; I will send out the first list sometime in April or early May.
We have started a website through www.ezscoreboard.com Our league ID is 208. Once you pay, you should go to the site to ensure you are listed, if so get a username, etc., if not sign yourself up after you have paid. The website is not yet perfect so please be patient – I’m still learning it.
We will have three round robin days; late May, June, and July, which are not mandatory but are a good opportunity to meet other players on the ladder.
I promise at least monthly updates, and if you have e-mail, they will get out to you a little quicker. I also try to give you an immediately updated list when you email the score to me. So please let me know your e-mail address; you can e-mail me at timandmolly@comcast.net
If you want to join, send $4 payable to

MAPLE GROVE TENNIS LADDER RULES
- PLACEMENT ON THE LADDER WILL BE BASED ON FINAL STANDINGS FROM THE PREVIOUS YEAR. NEW MEMBERS WILL BE ADDED ON IN THE ORDER RECEIVED.
- THERE WILL BE TWO DIVISIONS OF PLAY:
MEN’S SINGLES
WOMEN’S SINGLES
- MATCHES WILL BE BEST TWO OUT OF THREE SETS WITH A TWELVE POINT TIE-BREAKER AT SIX GAMES ALL. (FIRST PERSON TO SEVEN POINTS; MUST WIN BY TWO)
- IF THE PERSON CHALLENGING WINS THE MATCH, THEY WILL MOVE UP TO THE PLACE OF THE DEFEATED PERSON AND THE LOSER DROPS ONE SPOT.
- A PERSON WHO IS CHALLENGED MUST PLAY WITHIN TWO WEEKS OR FORFEIT THE MATCH. (DON’T BE SHY ABOUT DEFAULTING SOMEONE WHO DOESN’T RETURN CALLS. BUMP’EM DOWN, & LET THEM CHALLENGE YOU BACK). IF A PLAYER HAS NOT PLAYED ANY MATCHES IN TWO MONTHS, THAT PLAYER MAY BE DROPPED TO THE BOTTOM OF THE LADDER. (NOT AS A PENALTY, BUT AS AN INCENTIVE).
- A PERSON DOESN’T HAVE TO ACCEPT MORE THAN ONE CHALLENGE PER WEEK. A PLAYER MUST WAIT ONE WEEK BEFORE THEY RECHALLENGE ANY SPECIFIC INDIVIDUAL THEY HAVE PLAYED.
- PLAYERS MAY CHALLENGE INDIVIDUALS UP TO FIVE ABOVE THEIR RANKING, EXCEPT ANY NEW PLAYER (OR PLAYER BUMPED TO THE BOTTOM PER RULE 5) HAS THE OPPORTUNITY FOR ONE OPEN CHALLENGE.
- MATCHES WILL BE PLAYED AT A TIME AND PLACE ARRANGED AND ACCEPTABLE TO BOTH PLAYERS. AS A COURTESY, YOU SHOULD PLAY AT THE COURT OF THE CHOOSING OF THE PERSON BEING CHALLENGED, (AS LONG AS IT IS IN MAPLE GROVE OR OSSEO). IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT BOTH PLAYERS BRING A NEW CAN OF BALLS AND THE WINNER TAKES THE UNOPENED OR NON-USED CAN AND THE LOSER WILL KEEP THE OPENED CAN, UNLESS OTHER ARRANGEMENTS ARE AGREED ON PRIOR TO THE MATCH.
- COMPETITION WILL TAKE PLACE FROM MAY 1ST TO SEPTEMBER 15TH. IF THERE IS ENOUGH INTEREST, THERE WILL BE A TOURNAMENT AT THE END OF THE SEASON.
- WINNERS SHOULD REPORT ALL SCORES, EVEN IF IT DOES NOT AFFECT THE STANDINGS. REPORT SCORES TO TIM THEISEN, timandmolly@comcast.net, or 763-493-9407. LADDER UPDATES WILL BE MADE RIGHT AWAY VIA E-MAIL, AND WILL GO OUT TO ALL PLAYERS VIA E-MAIL, AND REGULAR MAIL, ON THE FIRST OF EACH MONTH (EXCEPT FOR SEPTEMBER, WHICH IS DONE AFTER THE 16TH).
