HAPPY ENDINGS

Please be patient if you have sent in a happy ending for the website.  I will do them asap but they are not done daily or even weekly.  We love to receive them and they will get added as soon as possible.

NOVA NOW CALLED HOLLY

It's almost the anniversary of Holly's (Nova) adoption. I'd seen her on the website in September when we adopted our other (MT) GSD, but was upset to see her returned yet again a couple of days before Christmas, especially after all her years of suffering. Having broached the subject of a 4th dog to my shell-shocked husband, I believe his words were "I'm not agreeing to this at midnight on Christmas Eve, with a beer in my hand". So, by the end of Christmas Day he was saying "....but I think you should get her after your exams"......and I sent the email on Boxing Day, collecting her the following day!  I must admit I hadn't realised I was that persuasive!!
Since then I can honestly say there has never been a day I haven't loved spending time with her. She rarely leaves my side, watching me constantly, always hoping for another cuddle. A year on and she's just as grateful to have a home as she was in the early days. She's so much happier than the others, presumably due to her previous cruelty. She's still very dog-aggressive because of her bad experiences, but it's improving slowly. When we're on walks I "use" our (MT) Jack Russell to meet and greet other dogs, to show Holly they're ok. She's done amazingly well with our dogs though. She hardly ever bullies them now, and looks at them with affection.
She's learning how to play with toys (and how that doesn't include flinging items of your owner's clothing), and even managed to retrieve a short distance last week. She does agility, and spends most weekends at flyball competitions as our JR competes. We part-rent a field for them to blast around in (in addition to walks), which she loves (unfortunately full of red mud...and she's white). She really doesn't care where she is as long as she's with her family. She's recently started daring herself to come to my husband. Hopefully in time this will replace the barking as he comes into a room! All in all she's an utter delight. The "jury's out" on who loves who the most! We're really looking forward to her having her very first Christmas in a home. This year she'll be eating Christmas dinner out of a bowl my daughter has painted for her, and the only time she'll ever come back to rescue will be to visit!
Thank you all so much for all you do. I don't know how you cope with the heartache, but it's certainly appreciated.

Muddle says goodbye. He says thank you to everyone who has sent him pigs ears and those who have come and walked, loved and cuddled him. He is off to live with another pet foxhound where he will be able to run, play and even go out riding with the horses. Here is he with his new family saying goodbye to you all.

Here is Muddle safely back in his new home.

FURTHER UPDATE

Hi Sylvia
Just a couple of pictures of Muddle helping out around and about. I'll take some with the horses when the weather is a bit better. Muddle and Suzie are now in the same dog training class and are practising some agility - so far they've done jumping and weaving round poles. Next week is The Tunnel - which I know Muddle enjoyed at ManyTears - so he should be able to show them all just how clever he really is! Regards. Carolyn

Blossom

The Adventures of Blossomţ
Hi Just thought I'd update you on Blossom!
It's been a bit of a rollercoaster ride the last, almost, six weeks. Our first dip was when she tried to eat the plumber but he survived! The second one was biting Lincoln in a fight over a dog biscuit, he had to go to the Vet's for treatment. He did make a meal of his injury though and next day they were playing together, and curled up on the sofa as usual We haven't had any other major issues, considering she's spent so much of her life in kennels and she's settled well into our family routine.
We've not had any problem with her sleeping all night downstairs, with Lincoln, and she's totally housetrained. A couple of times she's wet on our beds but I've bought some mattress and quilt protectors, as bedding can be easily washed. She's been left in the house on a few occasions, for up to two hours, and we still have furniture on our return! Blossom does bark a lot; at the kids going to school, coming home from school, the neighbours, the neighbours kids, the neighbourhood dogs etc.....but we're working on this.
Blossom went missing for four hours. In all the excitement of going out for a walk I hadn't secured her lead properly, when we got out of the car she took off after Lincoln and I was left holding the lead. I wasn't unduly worried as her re-call has been excellent....in the garden! Both of them ran off up the track and turned round on a re-call......which is when Blossom realised she wasn't actually attached to anyone and ran straight past us, up the embankment and into the fields! We eventually got her to come back but she wouldn't let us get close enough to catch her, taking off over the fields again. My son drove Lincoln back home, out of the way, and we continued to search. By this time it was getting dark and the Ranger arrived to close the gates so we had to go. Fortunately, she eventually made her way into the nearest back garden and the very nice people fed her and called to let us know. Blossom was estatic at seeing my son and quite subdued yesterday. She's stayed by my side ever since she came home, no doubt having frightened herself at getting lost in the dark. She's going to take the nice people a box of chocolates to thank them for looking after her.
We are having a lot of fun with her, she loves her toys especially anything squeaky. She has one squeaky kong and one that can be stuffed with treats. She loves a trip to Dolittles petshop where everyone makes a fuss and is very happy and friendly with everyone when out. Anyway I'd better get this e-mail sent off before Blossom turns my laptop off again (she laid her head on the off button) and I have to go rescue the phone as she's lying on it and might be dialling some complete stranger!!
Regards Samantha

ANNIE

Hi Thought I would send a quick update on Annie. First of all we would like to say a massive thank you for letting us adopt such a wonderful little dog. She has settled in with us as a family and we can't imagine life without her! She has become very attached to my kids (pictured with my daughter Kate) and never leaves my son's (Sam) side. Annie is very polite and never takes anything that is not offered to her. She is the most gentle dog that I have ever known and is always the first on the scene offering kisses if one of us is upset. When we first went out for a walk she was absolutely terrified of traffic and kept turning her back on the road. 2 weeks on and 3 walks a day she learnt to trust our encouragement (and biscuit bribery!) and though still wary, she is quite happy to make the short journey along the roadside to our local park where she enjoys walks with "TJ" our neighbors Golden Retriever 16 week old puppy. As I sit writing this, Annie is asleep at my side with her head on my lap very content and happy (and a little spoilt!).
Once again Thank you From a very happy Johnson Family X

Pearl

We fostered Pearl in early October as we were reasonably near to the surgery of the Rowe Veterinary Group who were going to check her eyes to see if a cataract operation was possible. Pearl was a sad and rather nervous little girl when she arrived but soon made friends with one of our other Bichons called Daisy (formerly Flannel) whom we had re-homed along with Rosie (formerly Ice ) a few weeks earlier. We now had 3 Bichons with only 1 good eye between them, (Daisy had sight in 1 eye, and Rosie is blind). Pearl was taken to the Vet (along with Daisy) to be checked to see if an operation could be carried out to give her sight back. It was decided that one eye was suitable for the operation with a reasonable chance of success. An appointment was made for the operation to be done and this was carried out on 19 October. Pearl remained at the surgery overnight and was brought home later the following day. The following 2 days were critical needing hourly eye drops (day and night) and a further visit to the Vet at the end of the 2 days. The initial indications were that the operation had been a success but there was still a need for the eye drops to continue every 4 hours. Further visits to the Vet have been made and the eye drops, although reduced, continue. Pearl is a different little girl now. She is happy and lively and races around with Daisy with whom she is now inseparable. Eye operations are expensive but the difference they make to the life of the dog is immeasurable. Due to the bond that has developed between Pearl and Daisy we have decided to adopt her and watch her progress in the future. Thank you to everyone that helped to make this little dog’s life so much happier.

OZZY

Seasons Greetings to you all at Many Tears,
We simply wanted to let you know about Ozzy and his settling in with us. We brought him home from Many Tears four weeks ago now and boy what a whirlwind he is. We absolutely adore him and he gives us challenges and laughter every day. You can see from the photo attached that we are having some snow at the moment in East Anglia and Oz loves it. We are having lots of long walks and he is getting better at recall when he doesn’t have something more interesting to snuffle at. He wriggled out of his halty and lead to go in pursuit of a bull terrier on the village green a week ago but no harm done thankfully and I have certainly learned from the experience. His lead walking gets better and he is beginning to socialise with humans much better. There’s a long way to go with his doggy socialising behaviour though so we are starting classes early into the New Year. He really is the most gorgeous boy and has so easily become part of our family. I never knew a dog could love cuddles quite so much. Thank you to you all at Many Tears for allowing us the opportunity to adopt Ozzy. We are hoping for many years of love and laughs with him. We hope you are all doing okay at Many Tears and that you will be able to continue your wonderful work for many, many years to come. Thank you again and Merry Christmas to you all.
Regards Karen & Bernard & Ozzy Reeve

Polka Dot now called Molly

 Dear Sylvia and Bill,
Just thought it would be nice to let you know that Polka-Dot, (now answering to Molly), has settled in wonderfully and is a real tribute to the hard work and kindness that you gave her. From the moment we collected her, she has felt like part of the family and is very loving and already obedient, (she is quite food orientated so responds well to the occasional treat!). She has staked her claim on the settee next to Liz and adores the warm. she is walking well on her lead though her early days are revealed as she forages constantly. She has met the rest of our extended family and loves smothering the grandchildren in kisses. In just a few days she has learned to play with toys. Though not quite housetrained we are lucky in that she always gets agitated when she needs to go so we are learning when to let her out. She has met the dreaded vet for the first time to receive her second injection and this passed without any fuss, (probably because he distracted her with a biscuit!). I've attached a photo so you can see Molly at home. Many thanks for allowing us to adopt a wonderful dog. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year Malcolm & Liz Glover

Colt

Dear Sylvia & James & all the staff at Many Tears
Just wanted to let you know how well Colt has settled in to our home. He was a very thin and frightened little man to start with and unfortunately had kennel cough in the first week but in 3 weeks has gained 3 kg in weight, is just about clean in the house and is now very outgoing and loving. Mabel our rescue 4 yr od rottie has amazed us all by how well she has accepted him. As you can see from the photo she will share the sofa or a bed with him and plays tug (which he wins). They love their long walks on the heath and playing with their friends 2 boxers, 2 bassetts and 2 lurchers. He is the sweetest boy and we can't thank you and the people who rescued him in Ireland and gave him a new chance enough. Best wishes to you all. Kaye & David Kellaway.

SUZIE

 Hello Jemma & James
Thank you very much for kindly allowing us to adopt Suzie cat. Suzie has been with us for 2 weeks now and has settled in very well. She loves sitting on the windowledge watching the birds and squirrels on the feeder in the garden. She likes to play and loves her cuddles. George (my Yorkie) was a little wary of her at first but is improving all the time. I have taken a few pictures of Suzie and managed to take one together with George. Please find them attached. Wishing everybody at Many Tears a very Happy Christmas and thank you all for saving the lives of so many animals. Remembering your dedicated work in my prayers.

Tequila now called Teila

I thought that I would send you a few piccys of Tequila now Teila (my husband felt a bit embarrassed shouting Tequila on the hills). Teila is settling in so well with us and our labrador Millie they are both the same age and now have bonded well into a strong relationship. It’s a sheer delight to watch Teila develop and find out what the outside world is about. Mille certainly helps her with the confidence she has lacked and I can only say this is a dog who has come out of her shell in leaps and bounds but still has a little way to go to trust us all. She has muscled out a lot now as she is regularly taken for walks and runs – her energy is also improving and it’s so good to see her tail vertical and upright. Teila and I have become very close as she is so loving and gentle. She is still very scared of ‘men’ but is beginning to give my husband large sloppy ear kisses now. She talks to us in the morning when she has her breakfast and gives us lovely wolf talk when she knows it’s time for walks – otherwise she is so quiet and clean. She has got rid of our garden moles who have now fled the scene after large craters have been excavated to find them. I think this has totally unnerved the local mole population without the need to kill them. Teila is at her most joyous when she runs free with her new friend Millie –whether it’s running through her favourite woods, swimming in her lake or running free on the hills. I hope to be able to train her to bike with me in the summer – I am sure by then that her confidence will have again increased and she will be able to enjoy some longer walks and runs.

Zeal now called Holly

Hi everyone, Just thought I would drop you a note to let you know how Zeal, Westie who was fostered in York is getting along in her new forever home. She has now been renamed Holly - as we all came together at Christmas. Holly arrived at her forever home yesterday late afternoon and it seems like she has always been here! She hops in and out the back door for her wee wee's, knows the sofa is for stretching herself out on as long as she can, so mum & dad have to squeeze in at each end! She loves her food, ( she jumps up at me if it is not being produced fast enough!) eating every last bit as well as any leftovers from her new Westie pals. She also knows the sound of the treat packet. Let's just say she knows what a kitchen is all about. LOL! She does not appear to have shown any anxiety and seems perfectly at ease with the new surroundings. She slept well though the night trying out the comfy dog mattress and dog beds in our bedroom. When we got up this morning, I was greeted by her coming to me with a waggy tail! She rolls over for a tummy tickle and will lick my arm whilst having a cuddle. She met my parents today and she spent all of the visit relaxing on my dads knee enjoying yet another cuddle and fuss! If one of us goes out of the room, she will lift her her look and listen till we come back then it's back to snoozing again! In fact as I write she is contentedly sleeping soundly beside me. I gave her a bath and a groom this morning. She was stood very well and was unperturbed by the dryer or clippers! Not bad for her first day! She's a real cracker and we are all lucky to have found each other. Another example of all the hard work and dedication of Many Tears, staff and helpers paying off!
Kind regards,
Karina & Neil Salpekar Abby, Fergus and Holly (the 3 Amigo's) Preston, Lancs

ELLA

 Dear All at Many Tears
I just wanted to email you to firstly give you an update on Ella - she is the adorable greyhound x pup we adopted back in August. All I can say is she is thriving (she is enormous now), cheeky, loving and very affectionate. She has passed her puppy training. Hope you all have a very merry xmas and of course a peaceful new year - although I doubt that it will be quiet - sadly....
 Best wishes Beverley Forbes

MATILDA NOW CALLED TILLY

Dear Sylvia and everyone at Many Tears, just a little note to say a big thank you to all at Many Tears and my foster carer Lara.
My family love me very much and I have settled in easily.Lara was right I do love my walks, I love to play and am getting on well with the other dogs, cats and rabbit.I hope you like the pictures of me and my new brother and sister attached. I will write again soon, but for the moment I'm going back to playing again. Love from Tilly

JUDO

 Dear Sylvia & Laylah,
Thought I would drop you a quick update to say Merry Christmas and so you could see what the fully grown Judo looks like and hear what he's been up to! We went for our first holiday away in May to the Black Isle in Scotland where Judo discovered that he loves beaches! We did miles of walking and he behaved himself perfectly with all the other dogs and distractions. I have attached a picture of us on a hillock and us by a river. We have also been doing dog agility all summer on a Thursday evening which he took to very well, although he does prefer to play with the other dogs rather than focus on the task in hand! Judo also did a fantastic job of dragging me up Sugar Loaf mountain near Abergavenny where we went on a day trip which got me thinking... he loves pulling and runnning so much I could harness the energy and use it so... I bought a dog scooter for the two of them (my other dog Tegan is cross husky so I figured it would work) and I have attached a picture of us trying out our new sport out down our road. But our biggest success so far this year has been to join Cani X UK. We have been having so much fun with it and I recommend it to anyone who has a dog that likes to run (which is pretty much every dog!). The atmosphere is so friendly and welcoming and they have many rescue dogs running. You can also run for charity to raise money and they support different charities each year. We have been competing in the competitive 5k classes and I have attached a couple of pictures of us taking part, in one of them Judo's tongue looks abnormally long (I think it may well be) but you can see from the dogs' faces how much they love it. I intend to compete all through the winter as it keeps us all fit while we're in the darker winter months where it's no so easy to walk them the miles we have been through the summer. That's all for now but I wish you all the best for 2010 and hope that Many Tears can just keep doing all the great work it does for dogs like Judo. Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year! Love from Emily, Owen, Tegan & Judo

Alicia now called Alice

Thought you might like an update of Alicia (we call her Alice as we have a grand daughter called Alyshia) Alice has really settled in with us, our cats and the other three retrievers very, very well. We have kept up with the hydrotherapy pool and you may remember we mentioned that we thought she had not 'seen' water before we had her but now she is at home in the water swimming and playing as she is on 'terra fima' ! (she just dives in from the side of the pool following Honey - very elegantly).
Her coat soon grew and she is a very pretty girl (pic enclosed of her with her friends at Bideford (Devon) a walking track along the old railway - she is the one sat up). She is well behaved and is not bad coming to heel and back when off the lead all though really her only little prob is that she barks and is a handful when she is on lead and she meets other dogs. Her and Honey (our similar sized, aged and colour retriever) are 'partners in arms' and when off lead in a safe area run together and copy each other.
Alice - together with the others go practically 99% everywhere with us including our new printing works where they have their own space. Currently whilst this is being written Alice etc are walking under the Southdowns in the rain ! We (and many others we are sure) are very grateful for everything you do rescuing, fostering and looking after dogs.

Briar now called CoCo

Hi Sylvia I'm attaching a couple of pictures of Briar the lovely dog that I fostered and subsequently adopted from MT in May. He was 7 weeks old and one of and unwanted litter of 12. He accidentally came into my life as the 2 puppies that I had offered to foster found homes very quickly and Briar, as he was then called, had not. I noticed a picture of Banana on your site who was from the same litter so wanted to send a picture of Coco (his new name). I knew when I first brought Coco home that he was a very special dog. He is extremely smart, very good at learning and great with children. He is now 8 months old and and despite the inevitable occasional naughty puppy behaviours of chewing and getting himself into (small) mischief, he has done really well and is growing into a lovely dog. Walking him come rain or shine has also helped me to get fit again and lose 5 pounds! Now that surely is an added bonus! Thank you for all that you do for the animals.
Jo Halladey and Coco

Brianna

 Hi Many Tears
Thank you so much for bringing Brianna into our lives she is almost the perfect friend she walks on the lead to heal all the time so this morning on our first walk of the day I let her run free for the first time and she stuck to me like glue walking to heal all the time, she loves balls and frisbee's and brings them back. Food wise she is not greedy at all she leaves it till later, she take biscuits so very gently. we have a friends dog Scrumpy a little jack russel to stay some times and you would think they had been together for years both ball mad and eat out the same dish and it will not be long before they cuddle up together he used to do that with our Jess.
 Regards Dave

Tara

Hello my name is Tara and I was rehomed from Many Tears on Saturday 28th November. What a day that was, first I was visited by a group of people who all seemed very nice, they took me for a walk and gave me some very tasty dog chews, they seemed really nice. Well would you know it they wanted me which was great seeing as how I am a Rotweiller.  They put me in their car and took me a long long way back to their house, thankfully stopping many times on the way as I needed to go as they say. When we got home I could not believe it I had a huge garden to play in and I met my new grandma. I have a new bed, bowls and toys, I cannot believe my luck. I was however taken to the vet for my jabs but it was OK she was a nice Irish lady, just like me. I have settled in to my new life beautifully and don't ever want to leave my family I get lots of cuddles, kisses and hugs what more can I ask for. My new family have attached a couple of photos of me, and don't I look great. Well will let you know if there is any more news on me but thank you Many Tears for finding me a new loving home and family.
 Tara xxxx

Buttons - Now called Spoon

A couple of pictures of our Spoony, enjoying the water and having a day at  the beach with her sisters, Lolla and Luce, she has lost 3 kilos already and is becoming more confident with every daily walk.  She has been a very good girl with her house training and is just so happy she wags continuously.

NIMBUS

We adopted Nimbus the German Shepherd with the terrible cut on his leg in August. We have renamed him Zen as he is such a peaceful dog.  He has gained weight and likes to run.  We are now up to 6 miles in one session.  We run almost everyday as well as walks.  He's lovely with the kids and is currently being trained by our 10 year old who's been watching "It's Me or The Dog!  He's very obedient and calm with cats and dog visitors. Zen doesn't even bark when people come to the door.  He's just the perfect dog.  We love him dearly and he's a real asset to the family. Thanks to Steve and his wife who nursed him back to health when he needed it.  We are very grateful.
The Brooks family and Zen in Derbyshire.

Ulrich

Hi
We adopted Ulrich the little cavalier pup with the overbite back in September, just thought i would give you an update! We renamed Eulrich Baxter, and he is coming along so well, when he first came to us he had quite bad diohreer, after a course of anti biotics he is now doing really well! He has a big brother – Thor to teach him his ways, Freya is like his second mum both akitas & poppy another cavalier is his playmate! Poppy was a little jealous at first, this only lasted a couple of days & now if they are not snuggled up together they are playing and causing mayhem! Baxter is absolutely adorable, and has settled in so well. We are so pleased he is now with in our little family, everybody adores him! So here are a few photos of the spoilt little horror!
Many thanks for all the things you do, we adore him xx Sarah

Granny now called Annie

Granny has fitted in really well, its like she's been with us for years, we all wish she had. She talks a lot now especially when we get up in the mornings, its lovely. She's put on weight & is moving well she loves her walks. Her favourite things are mucking out the ponies & watching the hens, its like tv for her. Thanks again for letting us give her a home. Happy Christmas from all of us here especially Annie

FIZZY NOW IZZY

Hello all I just thought I'd drop you a quick line as I adopted one of your dogs on the 6th Sept 09. Her name was Fizzy & I recall she'd not been with you all that long & I picked her up from one of your fosterers (Kathryn) who lived in Wales.
We dropped the "F" & Izzy has been an absolute delight. She did have a fear of men when i first had her in fact, it was nearly 3 days before Luke my son(21) could actually made a fuss of her!! I did have problems with her ears too. She was on drops for almost a month but they did very little so Louise (vet) suggested she had them flushed out under a general anaesthetic. The gunk & debris she got out of them was awful.  She remained on the drops for a further week then given the all clear WOOP WOOP!! I use an ear cleaner now as a precaution once a week.
The training has been going really well too, in fact,we were moved up in class 2 weeks ago & she should have a Bronze medal just before Christmas. The trainers have a real soft spot for Izzy & she loves going! We use the Clicker method which is very popular.
All in all Izzy now lives a wonderful life & is dearly loved & adored & this is very much reciprocated. She gets long long walks over the fields & "snuffles" till her hearts content!! She's brilliant with other dogs & loves to be chased by the males!! I have a feeling she could have been used as a gun dog because her recall is so much better since I bought a gun whistle.
Keep up the good work Many Tears. You made our family complete by allowing us to have Iz.
 Kindest Regards Alison

Gus

As you can see Gus is much happier than he was at the kennels – he still has the odd sad moment when he looks at me and whimpers so I give him a cuddle and he gets over it. He is still looking for his previous owner when we go out – he goes up to any grey haired man he sees as if to ask if they are his owner, sadly they’re not. He has settled in very well with my other dog Brandy but there are still some issues with the cat – he has tried to catch her on several occasions and as she is 16 years old you can appreciate that this did not go down very well. He has learned to use the dog flap (who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks?) so has 24 hour access to the garden. He has his own personal bed and space, he sometimes stays in his own bed at nights and other times he comes upstairs with Brandy and myself - I leave it up to him. He is much loved and has made friends with many other dogs and dog owners on our daily walks. He comes with Brandy and me to my mother’s twice a week and gets on very well with Ebony (my brother’s Labrador). He also goes out regularly with Heather and her three Many Tears dogs, Minnie, Winnie and Pixie (I think Pixie is in love with him as she goes much faster when he is out in front!).

Febe and Taffy

Thank you Many Tears for giving us the chance to have these 2 gorgeous puppies lol Febe 8 (formerly Harmony) Taffy 2 ( formerly Boy George lost an eye at 5 weeks).   Febe is an Angel, she is so gentle and kind, it took a very long time for her to trust us , in fact at one point I thought we were never going to get there, very slowly bit by tiny bit we got there and it has been marvellous!!! Febe loved it when we were lucky enough to get Taffy, she took on the Mother role straight away and he was able to snuggle with her whenever he wanted, that did them both a lot of good!
Taffy is just so lovable, He loves everybody and everybody loves him ! he loves fun fights even Febe likes to fun fight with him, that is so funny to watch them 2 hurtling around the garden/house. Taff comes and stares at me when he wants something, I have to go through a list of things and when i get to what he is after he starts jumping around crazy he is, laugh when it comes to Taff that's all we do, they both come to say thank you for whatever I've done for them, that gorgeous a wet nose on your leg saying thanks Mum! Priceless!!! Having these 2 has made me a better person cos now I know what love is.
 Lucy Lawer

Basil now Paddyţ

Hi everyone I thought it was about time we did an update on Paddy for you now that we’ve found out what is wrong with him. After months of going back and forth to the vets we found out today that he is allergic to most meat, milk and grass! No wonder he was covered in sores when we adopted him. As you can see he looks so much better now and a lot fatter after all the steroids he’s been taking! He absolutely loves playing with his ball, I’ve lost count of how many he’s broken, it only takes him a few minutes! He’s a nightmare with his squeak toys too, he does anything he can to break them and then wonders why they don’t squeak anymore. He’s got a few new ones for Christmas so hopefully they should keep him happy for a while. As you can see he loved being out in the snow, he was waiting by the door for me to come home to take him, wasn’t too pleased when some of it fell off the tree and landed on his head though!

Hattie

Hi Sylvia It's been 15 months since we rehomed Hattie and I thought I'd give you an update Hattie is an absolute dream - she eats, walks and plays really well - she even runs to meet other dogs now instead of hanging back and has the waggiest tail you have ever seen especially if you say "din dins". She has the deepest bark you've ever heard which is solely reserved for when we take our loft ladder down - who knows why but it really upsets her! Hattie loves the snow - she runs around like a mad thing and chases our other dog Molly, though is happy to be chased also. Santa came early to our house because the snow arrived and so I decided to let Hattie wear her new coat - it totally covers her tummy and zips across her back - she is so proud with it on. One other thing Hattie likes to do is sleep and she loves her basket and will even let me know if she wants to go to bed! I've attached some photos for you thanks again for allowing us to rehome our wonderful little dog and may we wish Many Tears a Happy Christmas and a Prosperous New Year.
 Rosemary

Pixi and Mali the westies are both from Many Tears. Pixi came to live with us almost a year ago and we adopted her on the 20th of December 2008. She was from a puppy farm so had already been bred from at a year old. She is brain damaged and is under the vet for cataracts as she is nearly blind.  She is still nervous of strangers and strange places but loves the family and her holidays in our caravan at Devon and chalet near Clacton. She was housetrained in two days and is a much loved member of the family. She has the sweetest nature and is really comical when she walks on her hind legs. Mali came to us just 3 weeks ago and was adopted almost immediately. She is 4 years old and a real sweetheart. She is learning to play with our little yorkie x poodle and settled into the family right away.  She was housetrained within the week and is really quick to learn. She is still hand shy but comes up for a fuss and is another one that dances on her hind legs when she is excited. We all love her and both our girls have made our family complete.

Basil

The Beagle is Basil. He's laying with our dog Buffett. I know you had concerns about us taking him because he had been returned once already, and was now in a foster home. You wanted us to be sure. While he keeps me on my toes, we couldn't be more happy with him!! He is smart, full of fun, FULL of energy, and very loving! And as you can see, he gets on GREAT with our other dog!!! Thank you for letting us have him!!

Bella here (used to be called Spot)

Hi all it's Bella here (used to be called Spot)
I have been in my happy ever after forever home for almost a year now (mummy says it's going to be my happy anniversary, whatever that means) and I thought I would let you know how I'm getting along. I'm being a very happy little girl and my mum loves me to bits, it must be true as she tells me all the time and laughs at me when I do stuff that's a bit naughty.  Just today I helped mum clear out the wardrobe by pulling lots of things out for her. I still don’t like a few things, the hoover gets on my nerves so I run away from it and I am scared of the camera so mum takes pics of me when I'm not looking, but hey we cant like everything right?
I love to play with my dog friend who is called Barney and I think he loves me now, it took a while but I knew he would come round in the end, a cutie like me how could he resist?. Over to mum now.
Love Bella.

Hi all just a quick line to let you know that Bella has totally settled in, its like she has always been here, My other basset has gone from being slightly aloof to now loving her. She has her odd little ways, she is still nervous of strangers but wags her whole little body when she gets to know you, we call it the Bella windmills. Quite simply she is totally adorable.
Thank You.

ANNIE NOW CALLED POPPY

 Hello Sylvia, James and everyone
Remember me? I was Annie with the "cauliflower ears" and you rescued me from the pound. I was adopted on the 30th August. Mummy has at last remembered to bring home her camera from work again so she can send you a picture! The first picture was taken when I had been here in Hampton about 2 or 3 weeks and as you can see I had already decided where my new bed was going to be and was putting on weight!
Within 2 weeks of being on Burns my coat was totally transformed. It went from being really harsh, thin and dull and now it is soft, thick and very shiny and I have curls on my back! I have now been here about 9 weeks the vet says I am now the correct weight, I have put on nearly 6 kilos, and everyone knows and loves me! They were shocked when they first met me because I was so thin, but now they say how beautiful I am, and Mummy how beautifully behaved as well.
We have lost my friend Old Ted who helped me settle in here but I have lots of " doggie friends", Digger, Ella, Dudley, Tug and Pip our old cat. I have just had a lovely long walk in Bushy Park, my supper of Burns chicken and rice, the fire is on and I am very sleepy so you will excuse me if I just have a snooze.....on my settee of course! Lots of love and thank you for saving my life, I am so very happy now.

JULEPNOW CALLED DARCEY

Hi Sylvia You might remember me telling you about Darcey (formerly Julep) qualifying for the finals of Scruffts, the family crossbreed of the year competition. Well, we have just come home from a fabulous weekend at Discover Dogs at Earls Court where the finals were held. And little Darcey won the title of Prettiest Crossbreed Bitch 2009. She just missed out on the overall title, but we are so proud of her, and made sure that we mentioned Many Tears. I've attached some pictures of her looking as proud as punch with her trophy and rosettes. I can't believe how far she has come from the little scrap of a pup we adopted from you. She is a little star and we love her to bits.

Sangria now called Abiţ

 Hi Bill & Sylvia
Just to let you know how Abi is getting on. She is such a beautiful girl not only in looks but in personality as well. So so clever, she fetches her ball, sits and gives paw. Sits at all the roads we love her to bits. She is only 4 months now but so much older in her head, she is so clean in the house and barks at the door to go out. She is really good with the cats, doesnt really look at the rabbits anymore and gets on so well with Oscar our MT GSD who is 3 now, we adopted him when he was 8 weeks old from MT. I can honestly say she was worth the 8 hour round journey, its just as well your not nearer, I would be on your doorstep everyday. Just to say we have kept her on the Burns and she seems to be doing well on it, in fact i have got all 3 dogs on it now. Hope you like the pics.
Best wishes Christine x

BORIS

Boris the Saint Bernard has settled in well, sleeps near the front door when we go to bed. He loves going for walks and meeting new people and dogs. Eats well ,likes fuss sometimes ,when he has had enough he give a little growl so we walk away and hes fine. We registered him with our vet and unfortunately the vet discovered he has a heart murmer so we may have to have him on medication for the rest of his life. He is going for a scan in a couple of weeks time to find out .

NESSIE

Hi everyone at many tears, thought I would give you an update on Nestle, or as we call her Nessie! She has settled in very well and is the most loveable dog I know! I cant think of anything bad to say about her. She is good on the lead and off lead 98% call back!  About 2 weeks ago my mum was taking her for a walk ,and 3 dogs came running out of a house and attacked Nessie. As you could imagine my poor mum was terrified she is 81 years old! A neighbour came to her aid with a big stick and eventually got the dogs off. we rushed Nessie to the vets.  The dogs had bitten her on the neck and her ears. she was in the vets for 2 days and came home with a "lampshade" on. We also had to rush mum to the hospital and she had a broken wrist where she had been battering the dogs.  The only good thing is that Nessie is on the mend, and it does not seem to have changed her temperament in any way she still wants to play with any dog that she meets.
Keep up the good work that you all do for all these poor dogs, or without people like you, where would all these wonderful dogs be.
Lots of love Jim, Kathy, Nessie xx

Banana - now called Djembe

Hi Just thought I would send you an update on "Banana"- now called  Djembe. We bought her from you in June of this year as an 8 week old  'angel'. She has gone through various stages of 'monster' since  then!!! Causing many laughs and many tears at times. Our secure garden  proved to be not so secure and she has made many trips to the next  door neighbour - much to their delight. They love her. We have rebuilt  fences, heightens with trellis and filled unknown gaps in hedges.  Frustrating and costly at times but the pleasure we have from Djembe  always outweighs this.
Now at 7 months and the size of a small Labrador  she still thinks she can sit on my knee when I am working in my office  - we luckily work from home. Her energy knows no bounds and she is out  and about a lot with us. She gets admiring glances wherever we go  because of her unusual looks and colour. There have been many guesses  as to her type - ranging from whippet, greyhound, german shepherd and  weimeraner. She has now thrown a further wobbly into this equation by  developing a ridge down her back - so maybe Rhodesian ridgeback as  well. Anyway, miss allsorts is well loved and we thank you so much for  bringing us together. A particular thank you to Jane for caring for  her in those early days and making her house training so Much easier for  us.
 Thanks Alison & Terry

Kiefer

Now that we've had him for three months I thought you might like to see a photo of our darling Kiefer. As you can see his idea of an evening's heaven is curled up on the sofa bottom to bottom with me. What you can't see from the photo is how well he looks now and what a joyous dog he has become. The whole family, as well as everyone he meets is charmed by him - as for myself and my husband, he is an absolute integral part of our lives. So much so that we're very tempted to find him a companion to join him in his frolics in the garden and local parks. Although he's up to his correct weight (with muscles!) and now lives up to his namesake (Sutherland), his coat has not completely grown, when it has we'll send new pictures that actually show him awake! We are so happy that you allowed us to adopt him, thank you and keep up the very necessary and brilliant work you do.
Best wishes Antonia Lacey

KC, PIXIE & COPPER

Hi, Just a quick thank you as I know how truly busy you all are. But wanted you to see three of your dogs whom we love so very much. Copper the Black and White Lhasa Apso came to us just this October, yet she looks so comfortable, they could have been a trio for years.
Thank you to Sylvia, Bill, James and all of you for all your hard work.
Kind Regards KC (Bullmastiff), Pixie (Yorkie) & Copper (Lhasa Apso) & me Deb Garbutt

DARCY & OSCAR

My names Darcy,
Pat and Roger took me and Oscar  home with them at the end of June. They decided to just call me Darcy but my brother stayed Oscar.  After a two and a half hour journey we reached our new home a bungalow with a nice garden.  We have since travelled widely to horse shows and other great places.  Our latest adventure was to a horse show in Cumbria.  When Pat and Roger put lots of things in the car and in a big box on top of it we had no idea what was happening! We got up very early the next morning and after a walk and breakfast when any sensible pup would have gone back to bed we were loaded into our crate.
Now this crate thing.  Oscar will insist on taking the best place so I end up leaning up the side but eventually he moved over so I got to lie down!  We travelled for a long way and then we stopped and Roger put us on our leads.  We thought we had arrived somewhere nice but it was a great big car park!  Roger took us through all these cars ,it was a bit scary.  There was a field and we got to play with a Labrador.  He didn't seem to like it much when we tried to jump on him and Roger said we shouldn't do that but his owner just laughed.
Then we got put back in that blessed crate and off we went to a place called Silloth.  When we next got out Pat and Roger took us into something called a mobile home.  This puzzled us as it didn't move all week. We got to go to the horse show and there where lots of horses and nice smells.  We were the only dogs there as Roger was the Judge and so they allowed us to go so we got all the fuss.
The next day we went to where there was a huge pool of water with birds floating on it.  Oscar tried to catch one but it was too quick and Roger pulled him back.  I didn't like the water as when this thing with people in it went past the water chased us.
We stayed a week and so many people asked what make we are that Roger said he will put labels on us next time but we got so much fuss and some nice stuff called Ice Cream.  I hope we go again soon.
Love Darcy and my brother Oscar
PS:  We have an Aunty Elspeth who lives three doors away who lets us out if Pat and Roger have to go out.  She's great as when she comes for ten minutes we can persuade her to play for an hour or more!

WENDY

The first time we saw Wendy for real was on Sunday 11/10/09.  We all fell in love with her straight away. She greeted us at her foster carers door and from then we were smitten. Wendy travelled home in the car for 2˝ hours and she was as good as gold.  She made herself at home straight away. The first night, Wendy slept for 7 hours and she did not mess at all.
Wendy has now been living with her new family for 1 week and a day, and she is the most wonderful girl, she plays lovely, with toys and we go out everyday to meet friends and their 8 dogs, Wendy gets on great with all of them, and I have now let her off the lead, and she plays with the dogs and she also makes sure she can see us, she then runs to us at 100 mph.
Wendy loves her food and the sofa, and she has become great friends with our cat Toffee, and he likes her too. She does bark at other dogs on leads but we are working on this, but once off the lead she is brilliant. We absolutely love Wendy and she loves us, and we would not ever be without her, she is the most wonderful girl.
Thankyou
Many Tears.

HARRY

Hi Sylvia & James,
Just a line to let you know that Harry is doing very well. He's putting on a bit of weight & is a much happier & settled boy now. He's quickly got into the routine, loves his food & titbits & just mixes in with the others as if he's always been here. He now asks to go out if the door is shut. He's a quick learner & a really gentle lovely boy. We are so lucky to have him.
Harry is scared of the dark!!! (so he has a night light) Actually he's much better now & sometimes goes out into the garden without the others at night. He doesn't like to go for walks without a lead on. He must have the contact. When we were out on a walk the other day we called in to see a friend & he was petrified. She has a large yard & keeps horses & he didn't want to go in although no horses were there. I think that it was the yard situation. He thought he was being left. Very strange! He was fine when we walked away. We will go there again & in time he will realise that he will never be left anywhere.
 Regards Sandie & Jenny

 A note from Harry himself
Hi All, Thank you so much for what you did for me. Life has been a bit strange, first with you & then with my new family. Think I've maybe fallen on my feet here. I know when you were looking for a home for me, you requested an Aga for me to lie by. Well I haven't got an Aga but I think that this will do. (see my photo) Who said that Newfies don't like the heat?

Belle (formerly Ariel)

Hello to everyone at Many Tears, this is just a little note to let you know how Belle (formerly Ariel) is getting on. We've had her well over a year now, but you would think that she has always lived with us. She is a brilliant dog, really good and very loving. She absolutely adores my daughters cocker spaniel Buddy and they play for hours which is quite handy as they only live opposite me. I've attached a couple of photos of her when we were on holiday earlier this year and we have not long been back from her first boating holiday which she thoroughly enjoyed. I will be honest I was a bit dubious about getting an older dog but can hand on heart say to anyone it is well worth it, the love you get back from these older dogs makes it all worth while!! Anyway just to say a big thank you for the brilliant job you do at Many Tears and for all your fosterers (especially Maxine) who do such a brilliant job with these dogs and give them what they need for a second chance! Please keep up the good work!! Rita

Rosy, Caira & Leo

Hiya Sylvia,

Take a look at my 3 beautiful dogs.  All fosters that I just couldn't let go.  Rosy (was Posy) the lhassa apso ex breeding girl was the first and my 6th foster who was so frightened she had to come to me in her crate and is the most loving, playful dog you could meet now.  Caira (was Cairo) the black and tan terrier x was my 9th foster and had been shut away with 6 other little terriers and so traumatised had to be hand fed for the first few days and is the dearest little dog you could meet (I call her my Karma dog) and Leo the shih tzu (was Kalio my 23rd), born blind who just crawled on his belly for the first couple of days but is the happiest little dog you could meet and his blindness doesn't stop him at all and was the easiest to housetrain (2 days) and is so confidant people can't believe he's blind.  They are the most wonderful dogs and look after every foster dog that comes to stay.  Rosy plays with them, Caira cuddles them and Leo likes to wash them and I'm so proud of them all.T  he pictures were taken by Christobel photography who is another wonderful fosterer and a fab photographer who I would like to thank so much. Keep up the wonderful work you all do.
 Best wishes

ELLIE

Ellie here, just to let you know I am still ok, and having a good life at my forever home with Mum and Dad.
We are all getting along very well, although mummy often looks tired, usually just after her walk, I take her out at least 3 times a day, often 4, as I think it is important she gets plenty of exercise.
It just so happens that I seem to enjoy it more than she does, but thems the breaks, I guess, hee hee.
I have loads of pals I play with at the park, but my favourite is Daisy, because I can boss her about as she is a lot smaller than me, but great fun, we always have a game of tuggy, and I always win, hee hee.
Sometimes I let Lisa or Willow win, as they are German Shepherds, and we have to be seen to be non-prejudice, at least that's my excuse.  Daddy has taken some more photo's and I have attached a selection, one shows me and the cat creature finally getting on better, but she keeps licking my face, and her tongue is very rough.
I have a new friend called Bev, and she is a vet, and I love her loads as she always gives me a huge cuddle, esp' if she has had to do something unspeakable to me, I get loads of cuddles from mummy and daddy as well, and lots of other people too, I guess it's 'cos I is soooooo cute, hee hee.
I have been practising my sorrowful look, but it doesn't seem to have the same effect as it used to, trouble is, I can't seem to stop my tail wagging when doing it and rather gives the game away.
I am very happy in my forever home, I got lots of exercise and well fed, with special treats for being a good girl, which, of course I always am.
Well, that's all the news for now, love to all, and thanks again for your help when I needed you, I am so grateful.
Lots of kisses licks and barks.XXXXXX

Max Factor

To all those at Many Tears,
Just to wanted to let you all know how 'Max Factor' (aka Max) is settling in. We collected our handsome boy over three weeks ago ... and he has made friends with our Leonberger, Lizzie. Although he thought she was a giant toy at first, he is now learning that she has her limits!!!  We all love him to bits, although Lizzie has one or two reservations, he has fitted into our family and it feels like we've always had him.
One slight hic-up is that he has an appetite for electrical goods, especially TV remotes ... he has already had three as well as two radios, 1 fishing net, 5 shoes and a few cushions! The expensive chew toys filled with yummy dog spreads are no comparison it seems!!  He is a bit of a whiz when it comes to the new baby gate we bought, he has now worked out how to open it and destroyed one of granddads shopping bags, so much for no dogs being allowed upstairs.
Despite his choice of chew toys, he is very well behaved. He is friendly with people of all ages and is very good at meeting new dogs. He already has a new pal, a chocolate lab, who he met on his first day at dog school. He is also charmed all those that have met him. Max is now beginning to realise that he has a loving family that will keep him forever. We are so grateful that we were given this special dog to love. We hope he loves us as much as we do him.
Many thanks to all those at Many Tears, for giving us our beautiful new dog.
 All the best,
Sharon, Geoff, Steph, Greg, Rob, Grandad and Lizzie Turpin.

Floss & Rosie

It is now nearly a year since we adopted our collie Floss, you were told she was six years old but Sylvia thought she was nearer 8. Well she has come a long way since the day we collected here from her foster mum Jane in Cosham.  I still call her the mouth on legs (but she is a collie) she still runs like the wind and tries to out run a greyhound friend of hers. She is the most loving gentle girl with our young grandchildren and from the day we got her her recall is excellent excluding here passion for squirrel chasing and with time and patience has learnt that barking at everything that passes the window is not allowed she is a calmer dog than the one that came to us and she adores my husband although it took her a while.  Her one hate is postmen not only ours and she did nip our window cleaner (how dare he touch her windows) luckily he has two rescue dogs so was very understanding.
In November last year she was joined by our little golden cocker spaniel Rosie (known to you as Della) from her foster mum Lara in Surrey.  She is one of your ex breeding bitches and of course you advise another calm dog to teach them the ropes, well we had to make do with a manic hyperactive collie but it works after a few issues with Floss and food possessiveness they are now the best of friends.
Rosie has of course learnt her mentors bad habits as well as the good but I would not hesitate in taking on an ex breading dog to look at this confident if slightly bossy little girl. It is hard to believe it's the same dog that spent the first week running around in a circle, not coming through a door if you were standing near it or eating if a human was near.  Her recall is one hundred percent (being a foodie helped) she is my shadow and loved by all who meet her. I am enclosing photos taken last March when we spent a week at Grace cottage in Dorset.  They loved the beach and the cottage was beautiful. Keep up all the wonderful work you do, I would adopt more but my husband says two is enough.
 Best wishes to all

Viz now named Nellie

Just Wanted to send you a update of Viz now named Nellie.  It has been a few weeks since we have had Nellie. she has settled well now in to her new home this has been helped by Maisie another many tears rescue dog. Nellie follows Maisie every where and they do everything together.  Nellie is gradually building up her trust in us, which i still find amazing after all that these dogs have been through. I Want to thank you all at Many Tears for all your hard work but also want to thank Jane Nellies Fantastic Foster Mum for giving her a good start in her new life.

Logan (Shogun)

Dear all
Just a quick note to let you know that Logan (Shogun) is doing really well. He travelled with no problem all the way back to Sussex. He is such a happy little dog and has settled in well with his new friends.  His best friend seems to be our middle bitch - Teasle who lets him cuddle up with her on the settee. He is such a clever little chap - he already knows his name and his recall is fantastic! > He is also very clean - we've only had a couple of accidents but constantly praising when he goes outside is doing the trick.
 Many thanks and best wishes
Tania, Steve, Lance, Bracken, Tally , Teasle, Gorda and Logan xx

Tiramasue now Ollie

Hi all, Just thought I'd drop a few lines and pics to reassure you all of how well Tiramasue now Ollie is settling in. For the first 48 hrs he barely moved from his new warm bed and just sat there trembling, then on the morning of the 3rd day when we woke , he was like a different dog, he started to initiate play with us and our other dog Mitzy. He has now been with us a week and the change has been startling, after a few accidents in the first day or two, he's now virtually house trained. He has started walking on a lead and loves his walks with us all. Ollie loves to pinch a pair of socks or slippers, and has the most mischievous expression on his face.
Richard and Helen James

Aaron (now Puzzle)

Dear all, Just a quick note to let you know how Aaron (now Puzzle) has settled in. He is a wonderful but often cheeky chap and we all adore him!! He loves the children and likes nothing better than waking them in the morning with a big slobbery kiss!! He has began to put on weight and bulk out and is not so timid and shy anymore. We hope the Aldo the other white boxer he was found with will also soon find a new home.
Many thanks The Angell family

MARLEY

To all staff at Many Tears,
Just a quick update of how Marley is settling into his new home. Its been almost 2 weeks since we did the12hour round trip to pick up Marley and he is worth every minute!
He was introduced to his new home on the lead as suggested by Ben so Marley knew what the rules were to be for the rest of his life. Marley has been super quick in learning what is expected of him and with the help of his new friend Muffin the German Shepherd he has settled in brilliantly. The first evening he arrived he brought  Nick his slippers one by one from the kitchen!!! Very Sweet.
Marley  definitely tries to be in charge of Muffin and she has now gone from being completely bewildered by him to enjoying the play and even tells him off once in a while!! They have good tug games with their toy duck but I have to say 90% of the time Marley wins and Muffin backs off. Marley has even started to tell Muffin off if she barks at something too much!! At the end of they day they relax together and seem to be getting on brilliantly.
On walks we spend the first and last bits doing some lead walking as suggested by Ben and Marley is doing brilliantly. He walks very politely most of the time and Muffin never ever pulls now she knows what is expected. One of us can have the two dogs walking to heal and not worry about distractions. That’s a big thanks to Ben the Dog behaviourist at Many Tears as walking is now stress free.  Marley likes to be next to either us or Muffin all the time and quite happily curls up on our feet/ shoes/ handbag!! We’ve caught him and Muffin curled up in the same bed once.
Until we’re satisfied with his recall Marley is on a big extendable lead for the rest of his long walks which doesn’t stop him from going every where Muffin goes of course! He loves his hours in the Cheshire countryside and has found all species of poo to roll around in!! He’s only fallen in the canal once so far which is pretty good although he is very interested/ baffled by kayaks on the water…I suppose if there is anything more exiting than new people it’s a floating new person moving at speed in the water!
Ok so maybe that wasn’t as short as I intended but there are so many people at Many Tears who put time into Marley to make him the lovely little dog he is that I didn’t want to miss anything out! Thanks once again.
Jacqui, Nick, Marley and Muffin x

Ruby (formerly ZeeZee)

Hi all at MT,
I have just received a few photos of Ruby (formerly ZeeZee) and just wanted to share them with you so you can see how lovely she looks.  Her new owners adore her and wish to thank us all for getting her on the road to recovery.  She has blossomed into a beautiful little girl, and from what I have read, she is totally spoilt! Good for her, she deserves it!  Her hair is continuing to grow, and she looks so well.     Another happy ending folks, well done!!
 All the best..Regards...Jan

Daisy (formerly known as Alice)

Hi, Here's an update on darling Daisy (formerly known as Alice) whom we adopted from you early in October this year. To say she's a joy is an understatement - Everyone who meets her falls in love with her pretty face and gentle nature, and she has already become one of a group of people and their dogs who meet on most days in a park on the way to the school. She has come out of her shell and is now relishing being part of everyday life.
Daisy travelled back beautifully from Wales, and although quiet she was so pleased to meet our other two dogs again. She settled with them straight away, and in the last 3/4 weeks has started to run round the fields with them.  She played a game of 'rough and tumble' with my other Goldie last night, and loves being with all of us. We are feeding her three meals a day, plus eggs and fish and the odd treat, and she has put on some weight and her coat is now shining and silky soft.
She's very clean in the house, only the odd accident which I would expect to be honest, and although she will take food if she can get to it, she hasn't been destructive at all - she would also never take food in our presence as her manners are too good! So we have just learned not to leave food in her reach!!
She's had a couple of baths (she hated them, but still behaved impeccably!) and liked being groomed. Although she has no idea how to 'sit' or what to do with a ball, her recall is very good, and she checks in when she is off-lead just so she can have a quick fuss. I am hoping that she will start feeling confident enough to start playing 'let's run off with the ball' with my other dogs.
Daisy has been unbelievable with our two boys (aged 3 and 8) - although they are very good with her as they have grown up around dogs, I was still cautious in case she found them a bit boisterous. In actual fact she always sits next to them on the settee, curls up with us when its bedtime stories, and adores meeting all the children on the school-run. She gets fussed everyday by countless children and their parents and now adores meeting new people. I could go on and on.........................she is a delight, gentle, takes treats so gently, doesn't pull at all on the lead, wants to be with us all the time, ignores my cats, snuggles up with my other two dogs, and is keen to meet every dog and person she meets.
She has bloomed since we've had her - she was very nervous of being out in wide open spaces, and was terrified when I went to a park with her for the first time, and also didn't like the school-run for the first few days - but we have just carried on as normal, and she is now learning that everyone will be nice to her and she doesn't have anything to worry about. She has the typical Goldie traits of rolling around in wet grass, beaming with a big smile, jumping in disgusting ditches, loving her food, carrying tea-towels around and at the end of a busy day curls up on the sofa with us. I would never hesitate to adopt another dog like Daisy again, and have recommended the rescue to everyone who meets her - they are all thrilled to see how she is coming on. We are so proud of her. So...............I've attached some photos - I hope you like them!

Camilla now called Emma

Hi Everyone at Many Tears, I have now lived with Diana for a month and what a month! Everyone I meet thinks I am adorable, and my official fan club is growing by the minute. I'm still very wary of strange people but in time I think it will be OK. Actually, I have booked a one to one human training session for Diana, who *thinks* we are going to a dog trainer! We rang her about classes, and she thought that first of all it might be better to introduce me to other people and dogs in more controlled conditions, away from loads of barking, scatty dogs in a village hall.
I have already established a few ground rules:

  1. Time does not exist before 10.00 am. so do not try to get me out of bed before that! This rule is relaxed as a concession on Thursdays only (and on Sundays if Diana is preaching at church).
  2.  Evening lap and hug time commences at 7.00 pm and continues until 9.00 pm at least - every day.
  3. Food will be eaten when *I* want it and not before!
  4. "Doing it" in the rain is not acceptable - I will oblige only under extreme pressure.
  5. Walks, at least three times daily, will be taken when I sit by the front door looking hopeful, whether or not this is convenient to you.
  6. Play times (me dashing around the house like Jenson Button) will occur at approx. 11.30 pm each day - just to ensure you are tired out for the night.

I'm looking forward to winter, because Diana has built me a ski slope down from her sitting room into the garden.  Even without snow it means that I don't have to strain my back getting in and out of the house. We've been to the seaside, which I love, but the silly swans didn't want to play with me. We stayed at a hotel and I was very good. I go to a sewing machine shop every Thursday, where Diana teaches people to make quilts. I always take my smuggle bag, which is a safe place to be, and all the students and some of the customers make a fuss of me. I especially like Dave who thinks I'm gorgeous. A small boy who is frightened of dogs came to the shop this week, and I encouraged him to touch my back and gradually he got braver until he patted my head. How's that for psychology then?!! He looked very happy and I was so proud to have helped him.
This Thursday, a sausage was donated to me at lunch time - the lady at the hot potato shop adores me. After the quilting class, we visited the hairdresser, for Diana. I hid under the cape. I'm pretty good at going outside for you-know-what now - although when it rains, I hate it. We tried to buy me a little jumper today, but the pet-man couldn't help as I am not a standard size, so we will have to find a tailor. Afterwards, we went to visit the corgis at Sandringham, but they were all at Buckingham Palace, so no luck. However, we had a lovely walk on the Queen's estate. Sadly, I wouldn't sit still for a photograph, so I can't send evidence.
I'm not so frightened of traffic now - lorries are especially noisy but I act brave and fearless and am trying very hard to get used to them. So altogether life is pretty good. People keep saying I have fallen on my feet and I guess that's right.  I am talking to Diana about having another dog.
Anyway, thanks for all the love and care you gave me, and if you speak to my old owners, please tell them I'm OK. I will send printed photos for them eventually - when I will sit still for the shoot!
Lots of love Emma (Camilla)

PAXTON

Dear Sylvia and all at Many Tears,
Well, Paxton is a very special little boy and we absolutely love him. As you can see from the photos, he has grown a lot since we adopted him from you. Paxton believes that everyone is his friend including dogs, cats, goats, rabbits and everyone else he meets here. He spends most of the day with me in my office, in reception and around the grounds. He is very well behaved, amazingly obedient (for a Bassett!) and we are nearly there with the housetraining. His blindness doesn't hold him back and he is a confident little chap. He runs around our field off lead with my other dogs and it is sometimes hard to believe that he can see nothing at all. He has a special bond with my 13 year old blind/deaf Bassett, Tia and loves to snuggle up with her. He has seen a veterinary eye specialist who confirmed that he has no sight and never will have. Be assured that he will be loved and cared for, for the rest of his life.
 Best wishes, Christine Paradine

ROGER

 Dear Sylvia, Bill & Staff
I just thought you’d like an update on Roger.  He’s been with us nearly a week now and has not been the slightest bit of trouble since his arrival. We think we are incredibly lucky to have found him with you, he is an absolute 100% joy, really well behaved, full of life, super inquisitive, house trained, cheeky, wonderful with kids and just wants to love everyone. The only real work we have is to train him to not run off when off the lead (that will come but I think it’s going to take some time!), on the lead he is fantastic. Our family world is a much better place with him in it We have told many people about the amazing work you and your staff do there and more than a few of our friends and family are seriously considering adopting a new family member after having met Roger. Regards Kevin

Cool now called Kodi

Kodi/Cool is a grand sweetie.. a very happy boy.  He has settled in very well, has the run of the house and even walks into kitchen for a nosy or when cooking is on the go for a sniff.. I got him an extendable lead for when we go onto the field which he loves.  However it broke yesterday but I told Kodi to wait and he did and we did a quick fix and carried on. He's made a few friends on the field where we go walking. He seems to like his name and responds. He has a few nick names too which as you can imagine are gooey.. but he loves being goo'ed over.
He defended the house the other day.. a guy came to the gate asked could he pet him.. "I was just about to say "he's a little shy and timid" when Kodi let out this amazing baritone bark and chased the gate. To which I said instead.. "Best not he's a little territorial" the guy moved on which I was thankful for.
He loves coming for rides and he's moved onto the back seat now.  He starts off in the tailgate but then jumps over.  There is so much hair on the back seat at the moment I'm undecided if i should get a dog guard for the back or a throw for when I have passengers!!!! Either way he's a lovely boy and is loved very much.
He loves going to bed.  Come midnight he's getting ready for bed, asking for a wee, a drink,  a scooby snackand then off upstairs he goes onto his side of the bed.  He has a love and then.. that's it.. "lights out"!  I follow later I have the greatest sleeps with him!!!
Cool is an amazing dog and we are so happy to have him ..... a big thank you to all the people at Many Tears for giving him the chance of a real life and helping him be who he is !!

Efa (was called Below)

Hi Sylvia and Liza
I thought you might like to know how Efa (was called Below) is doing. She has been here almost a year and has been an absolute dream to live with. She is super with my other dogs and has had no problems slotting into the pack. She loves the children and in particular loves her daily job of 'horse-watch' when I am seeing to the ponies. She is an angel at home but a demon at agility. She lives to work and is the most focused dog I have ever trained. She just loves it! She had her first agility competition this weekend and the photo speaks for itself.

BLUE

 Hi Sylvia
We celebrated Blue's 1st gotch day in July, I can't believe its a year already!!  Blue had 2 holidays this year. A week in a log cabin in North Yorkshire (as pictured) and a few days in a posh hotel in North Wales.  He's coming on in leaps & bounds. Still as naughty as ever and no more eating tin cans!!
 Blue sends lots of licks

Cos now Fudge

Hi, Just to update you on Cos...now Fudge. We adopted her 4 months ago and want to let you know what a lovely dog she is. She has fitted in really well with our other collie Lucy and they are now firm friends, although Lucy keeps her in check every now and then! She is a very happy contented dog and loves sniffing around the garden and listening out for next doors ducks quacking! She certainly has a herding instinct and is quite keen to 'play' with any sheep that she may hear! We keep a firm grip on her lead at that point! Her recall is getting better every day...she is very treat orientated so that has helped lots! In the house she loves comfort ad always wants to snuggle up next to you on the sofa! Thanks again for letting us adopt Fudge...she is great and so is Many Tears!!!

 Hi James,
Just a quick up date on Tommy & Jerry the cats. When I got home the evening of the day I picked them up, they just made them self at home.  The dogs just took one look at them, (I'm sure they said) OH not again, more to pinch our food and beds.
The next day I put them on the veranda, and the is a eight to ten foot drop, you guess it, Jerry was the first to go, then Tommy followed.  I ran down the stairs to catch them, just called their names and they just came to me, now the door is open as soon as I get up and away out they go after breakfast. Tommy has to date lost two collars, he just hates them, but he keeps bring me in gifts.  To date four mice, 4 voles,1 baby mole, and I could just kill him for this five baby birds.  Jerry is also in competition with Tommy he's also brought mice, voles, but no birds, other than try and catch Eric,my cockatoo.  See photo attc. They have fitted in this house hold as if they where born here. Thanks a lot and I sure if all our pet could say thank you you would all be deaf from the sound they would make,so on their behalf thank you thank you all.

Qi now named Molly

Hi, we just thought we would let you know on how Qi is doing. We decided that we would change her name to Molly. She has been living with us for just over a month and is loving her new life. She loves having lots fuss in the evenings and likes sitting on our laps! she is still getting use to people but once she seen them she is fine. Although she has only been living with us a short time she is all ready queen of the house! She is still learning how things work but is getting better every day and is really enjoying life. She now understands how to play with toys and loves doing so. She also loves going on the beach chasing her ball. Also she loves the sea. In the mornings she goes mad when everyone gets up because she wants a fuss which is quite funny! We love her to bits and we are so glad she's ours.  I am Ffion aged 11 and I visit Molly often at my grandpa's house thank you

George formally Seigfreed

Hello I thought I would update you on George's progress since we adopted him 4 weeks ago. He has settled in so well and his 2 new sisters, Amber and Chilli, adore him, Chilli especially, on his first day wherever George was Chilli was stuck to him like glue, even laying on him when he was on the settee, luckily for George she has relaxed a bit more now and gives him more space! He really is such a special boy, he is adorable, so kind hearted and affectionate, he is like my little shadow. We are slowly building up a bit more muscle on his back legs, although they are still very wobbly but he loves to have a bit of a run on the field with his sisters. It took a while to get him to understand what to do with a bone, but now he knows, he loves them and he has also put on a bit of weight, which is good. He spends his days lazing around on the settee, but as soon as I leave the room he is up and looking for me! He loves his daily massage and brush - I've never known a Boxer shed so much hair! He has adjusted very well to living with 2 lively young Boxers and although doesn't tend to join in with the play (they can be quite boisterous so don't blame him) he loves to join in with the guarding of the house, as soon as one barks, all 3 are scotting round to the back gate or front window to tell whoever is there off! It is also a battle between him and Chilli as to who can give you the most attention when you come down each morning, it is such a lovely welcome! Although we have only had him a short time it feels like he has always been here, he is loved sooo much! Thank you for rescuing this lovely boy and letting him become a very important part of our lives!

Ashka

We adopted Ashka from her foster mum, Allyson, in Aberdare, Wales. When we arrived to fetch her with our two Leonbergers in tow, after a rather perilous journey, we were greeted by Allyson, her husband and their lively lurcher Jake. It was a beautiful day and all went as planned. Zak and Wanda, our dogs, seemed unfazed by it all, with Zak in particular wanting to explore everything in sight ! He seemed very keen to sniff and play with Ashka from the moment she timidly strolled out into the garden, whereas Wanda kept herself to herself - as always. Evidently, we liked Ashka from the word go and thought we'd give it a try.
Apart from the occasional howl and stealing of food, she has fit in and settled extremely well. Though sometimes unsure, she is a bundle of joy and a welcome addition to the canine-controlled family ! She can often be found, playing with the others or hiding under her favourite bush, always on alert. Especially when she hears the biscuit tin. We're also working on her weight. Her recall is indeed excellent and she now walks well on the lead, bit-by-bit her confidence is beginning to show. She is getting closer and closer to that calm-submissive state, as Cesar would say. That and we're finding her quirky eye to be popular with visitors!
We'd like to thank you for your help and wish you all the best in the future, hopefully many more dogs and cats will find loving homes that they deserve.
 The Green Family.

Mollie and Scrappie (formerly Robyn and Roman)

Just thought we would let you know that we are getting on lovely in our new home with our big brother Scoobie.  We have got used to so many things which are now routine: not doing toilet stuff in the house, regular walks with Mum and the dog walkers, other people and other dogs outside, going upstairs and ha ha cuddling up with Mum on the sofa and her bed first thing in the morning.
Things that make Mum laugh:  me Scrappie bouncing up and down like Zepperdy when she comes home and me Mollie still walking backwards as she comes towards me but I am getting better honest.
Mum smiles the most: when both of us are tearing around the garden after mealtimes just happy to play.
Things we are getting to grips with slowly: me Scrappie defending Mollie when anyone different comes to the house and me Mollie allowing Scrappie to defend me when anyone different comes to the house.  As you can see we have a happy home together now with Scoobie our Tibetan Terrier brother and if we were cats we would be purring loudly.  And better than anything with the right diet our spines are not showing anymore.
Love to all and thanks for rescuing us.

ENID

Hello Just to let you know that Enid has settled in very well - so much so, it is as if she has always been here and was meant to be. We adore her and she is just perfect. Ben, our Labrador and Angel, our Griffon and Enid are now all on the dog bed together outside in the sun. She is such a lovely little thing, inquisitive, happy, brave and just right! We have been for a few walks and she loves having a good look and sniff around. Our fields are enclosed so she shoots off, has a little look and comes back when I call her. She accidentally ran under the sprinkler yesterday and did not like that so I turned it off. She did not like going through our garden gate and car port area as it must have reminded her where she came from. However she now trots through, after a little bit of encouragement. She is so brave and trustworthy. She hasn't had one accident in the house, is eating well and has fitted into our family perfectly. Thank you so much for her. We love her to bits.
Laura

George (formerly Impress)

George (the Stolid Elderly Cocker) is an absolute delight. We adopted him at the end of May and he is such a brave little chap, facing his (enormous) fears every day. He is now coming to us for a quick stroke before he realises what he's done and retreats rapidly behind the other dogs for safety. He has taught us that when he touches our hands with his nose, we have to stroke him - he is a good teacher!! His 'profile' stated that he was 'no spring chicken' yet since he has joined us our walking pace has had to increase significantly just to keep up with him! He loves his pack (Daisy the Lab, Nemo the Odd, and Teazle the JR) and gains much confidence from them, following their lead in everything.
We have discovered that George is almost totally deaf, which heightens his startle reflex as he doesn't hear when anyone approaches him, so we have to be very mindful of this, but he is slowly allowing us ever closer to him when he is settled without feeling the need to flee to the other side of the room. He has made tremendous progress, will now sit and wait for his food (which he adores, but takes a long time over now that he only has about 3 teeth left in his mouth), and walks brilliantly on and off lead, ignoring livestock, and water, and he is much cooler and happier now that he has visited the groomers. He is the sweetest and gentlest of dogs, and we simply could not be more pleased with him. The picture of him alone is of him looking happy!!
Kind regards Richard and Rachel Chivers,

Lily was Belinda

Hi everyone Just to let you know that this Cavalier is a Cavalier with her paws firmly under the table!! We hope that she loves being here as much as we love having her. Great walker - 2 - 3 times a day we do the fields or the orchards, mostly off lead and comes back every time she is called. We have taken them both to Borth after church and she has adored the beach and the opportunity to run for Britain. Hope all is good with you, I don't know if I have sent the attached picture before but it speaks for itself.. with kind regards Bob & Pat King

Dodger & Topper

Thought you'd like to see the boys!  Dodger & Topper have settled in very well.  Topper (Griffin) decided to eat my camera while i was taking photos yesterday but other than that pretty perfect!

Smiffy

I attach a picture of Smith looking very cute and relaxing on some dirty washing, I am sure you will not be fooled by this! I took my car for an MOT, taking Smith as the walk back from the garage is a good 2 hours, only to get there (10 mins car trip) to find he had vomited profusely and it smelt awful. However it still passed!
He loves our other JR (who he fought with in beginning) and Sprite can do no wrong. He takes Smith's chews, food and plays tug with him. They will curl up together and the only problem is that Smith wants to wrestle, is rather rough and when Sprite has had enough I think he just bites Smith as I hear a squeak from Smith and he comes and sits by me! He does not get on with our larger dominant dog in the house though and there is often a bit of tension.
He is a very clever and (mostly) obedient little dog. I do muzzle him when he is off the lead on walks as he has had a go at another dog, but fortunately no damage was done. I won't risk it again though. He also seems to have got the hang of going for a walk and seems to have stopped going down holes for ages and I don't have to hang around waiting for him to come out, or at least poke his tail out so I can grab it and drag him out! He does seem to be quite aggressive to some strangers and people who come to the house, which I am pleased about. The other day I came to the patio gate with Jim and for some reason he didn't know it was me, and I managed to shut it just in time before he got me! He was leaping up at the gate, snarling and looking extremely nasty. I yelled Smith and he stopped immediately, became all waggy and contrite and let me in. Had I not have known him I would certainly have been reluctant to go in. As we are in a semi-rural spot, and I often walk alone with the dogs in woods and other remote places, I do find him far more comforting to have around than our other 2!
He now jumps on our bed in the morning and on the sofa in the evening, and is getting the hang of being a pet a little more. Anyway I love him dearly (Jim is not so sure and would really have liked a King Charles!).  He is everything I wanted, portable, clever, funny and a good small sized burglar deterrent!
 Best wishes Sally

Ruffles, now named Meganţ

Hi to all at Many Tears,
Megan has settled in very happily with us and her new brother Fergal, we feel like she has always been a part of our family and its hard to believe that she's only been here for five weeks. She is rediscovering her 'inner puppy' and has a great time playing with Fergal on their twice daily walk in the woods. She also seeks out new doggy friends to play with, and recently learnt how much fun it is to chase a ball. She has overcome her initial shyness and happily goes to all our friends and family for a cuddle. Learning to walk on a lead and mastering all the basic commands seems to have given her a new found confidence, and has figured out that jumping onto a tree stump and sitting down looking cute earns her a biscuit!

Thank you so much for letting Megan join our family,
JoJo & John

Amber (previously Justine)

To everyone at Many Tears
It's been about a fortnight since I arrived at my new home and I'm settling in well. I have a new older sister (Holly) who's a Cavalier like me and a big brother (Lucky) - a Working Cocker who doesn't do any work - he just enjoys himself. I've never seen a dog with so much energy. I've also got another new sister and brother - the cats, Lucy and Rusty. We all get on very well together as you can see from the photographs. At first, I wouldn't walk on a lead but I can do that now. Holly and Lucky showed me that there's nothing to it. The dog flap is still a bit of a mystery, though. Every day, during the week, my Mum takes her three dogs for a walk in the countryside. We don't need our leads there so we run, walk and, generally, sniff around for a couple of hours. My Dad takes over from my Mum at weekends. I really love my new found freedom, going out whatever the weather, but I'm not as fit as the other two. I'm improving gradually and, one day, I hope to keep up with Lucky. I look forward to my food at lunchtime and biscuits at 5 o'clock. At bedtime, we each get four doggy chocolate drops. Each evening, all the cats and dogs go into the lounge to watch TV but we're all soon fast asleep if the programmes are not too interesting. My Dad tells me that he's even less important now that I've arrived - even further down the pecking order. He doesn't seem to mind, really. My Mum says that I'll have to stay here forever and ever. I'm glad about that.
Lots of Love Amber

JJ now called Rosie

 Sylvia
I wanted to share my joy and happiness with you regarding Rosie (JJ) the cocker spaniel we adopted last January from you. We went to our local fun day a few weeks ago and I entered Rosie in the best rescue class and we came third, as you can see from the photos she has her happy smiley face on, a far cry from when we picked her up from you. I am so proud of her as she has come such a long way to have a normal doggy life that she so deserves but was denied for six whole years before you rescued her. Keep up the good work.
 Best wishes

Mini now called Finn

At the end of April this year we adopted Mini (now known as Finn). From the very beginning Finn has been a wonderful dog, completing his puppy training, learning all basic commands and a few more. He is very intelligent and loving and loyal. He loves other dogs and is absolutely fantastic with my crazy children who absolutely adore him. Maya, my youngest daughter, even gets into his cage and takes over! He loves his walks and we have met lots of lovely people and other dogs who have become his pack. He loves to play and even manages to encourage a lot older dogs to become puppies again which pleases their owners! I am considering doing some agility training with him as nothing phases him and he just wants more and more from life. He is a very active busy dog who has lots of love to give. Thank you for rescuing we cannot imagine our life without him. Hope you enjoy the photos.
 Sophie

Paris now called Pippa

This is Paris - now Pippa.   She is a wonderful addition to our family and is slowly learning about 'normal' life and how to be a happy dog. We took her to the country park yesterday and she had a fantastic time as one of six dogs in and out of the lake. She was smiling. Pippa is great with our cats and chickens and our  friends'  five year old twins. Our resident dog Kira is blind and we could not have wished for a more perfect companion for her. We are privileged to have found her.
Thank you
Many regards
Anne and Joe Chealea

Tilly now called Gilly

 H
ello to all the wonderful people at Many Tears,
We sadly recently lost our rescue dog to cancer, who we loved dearly for 11 years.  Our little Yorkshire Terrier Boris looked for him longingly for weeks, so we decided that we would get another rescue sooner rather than later.  I found Many Tears website and came across Gilly (now Tilly) an ex breeding Westie.  After pondering for many hours, shedding many tears and wondering if I could adopt 100 dogs rather than just the one (my husband put his foot down!!), I called and arranged to go and meet Tilly with my other dog Boris.
My husband and myself went along on a very wet day and met Tilly in Joan's home, a wonderful lady who fosters dogs from Many Tears.  I fell in love with all her dogs - but as soon as I saw dear little timid Tilly, my heart wrenched and I loved her instantly. My husband also fell head over heels, although Boris, my Terrier was more amazed at the fact he was suddenly in the company of three other dogs!
After a long chat with Joan and Jane (Jane also does the wonderful job of fostering dogs from Many Tears) and a home visit, we were delighted to hear that Tilly was coming 'home'.  When I went to pick her up I felt a little like Cruella de Ville as Joan and Jane had become attached to her (which is not surprising!) and I was taking her away.  My daughter and husband (and Boris of course) came to take her home and after an ocean of tears from everyone in Joan's house, off we went on our short journey just 20 minutes away.
We arrived home and Boris was very curious and Tilly was very nervous.  After an hour, she was running round the garden, discovering her new home and rolling over  having her tummy rubbed every time anyone was near enough to stroke her.  We marvelled at the wonderful job that Joan had done with Tilly while fostering her and wondered how the world could be so cruel to think this little girl could be used for breeding rather than given the love and freedom that she so obviously adored.
Tilly now sticks to me like glue.  She loves the whole family, but somehow I have gained a shadow that is with me whether or not the sun is shining!!!  She has two little soft toys that are her favourites that she fiercely protects, treating them like her babies.  Wherever she decides she is going to sleep, she rounds them up and then nuzzles into them.   Tilly also smiles for England!  When we get up in the morning, when we feed her, when we talk to her, she smiles!  She gets on just fine with Boris, already showing who wears the trousers in their relationship and Boris seems quite happy to go along with it, although he does find her amusing when she goes up the stairs and cannot get back down them again (she hasn't mastered that quite yet) and sits at the top barking for me to go and fetch her!  I think Boris is secretly quite chuffed that he can do something that she can't do!
All in all, no amount of thank you's are enough that we send to Many Tears for taking in our little girl and allowing us to adopt her.  The ever changing dogs that appear on the site, the write ups on them, the follow ups and the endless plea's for help just prove to us all what an endless task that is being fought by Many Tears and I salute each and every one of you for the work that you do, all of you, from Sylvia and her husband to the staff and fosterers.  We hope to have many many years with Tilly and should we ever be fortunate to win the lottery, the size of Many Tears will double - as we will be buying up land to enable even more animals to be rescued.
I urge anyone who is looking for a pet to adopt a rescue.  Any dog or animal is precious, but the love that you get from a rescue is unconditional and rewarding just knowing you have made a tiny difference to the life of an unfortunate animal.  Rescues take more patience and time to adapt to life than a regular pet, but with love and understanding, the rewards are thousand fold.
A million thanks Many Tears from us all, I have added a couple of pictures for you to see how happy Tilly has settled into her forever home.
Much love and respect to you all.
Yvonne, Ian, Chris, Vikki Boris (Yorkshire Terrier) and Tilly (Westie).xxx

Topaz and Tamerine

TOPAZ                                                  TAMERINE

Topaz & Tamerine are getting more confident and a lot more friendly with us even to the point of playing. They walk a lot better on the lead but are still rather timid around traffic and other people. Tamarin likes to sit in the front room and watch our lizards or the TV, where Topaz likes to lie on the landing watching down the stairs. They are both lovely dogs with very different personalities. We are very grateful for the work you did with them and choosing us to adopt them. We will keep you informed on their progress. I have attached some photos of the dogs to show you how they are.
 Yours Gratefully
 Serena and Alan

Webster

Hi All
Do you remember little "Webster" the tiny cav puppy, well here he is at Training classes. He attends every week and hates to miss, as he has now quite a fan club.
He has turned into a wonderful little boy, who loves life to the full, enjoys walking, swimming, and holidays in the log cabin.
Thank you so much for letting us have the best Cav in the world.
  Maggie
Ps (keep up the good work saving these wonderful dogs)

Nifty now called Honey

Hi There, I am sending some pictures for your happy endings, this is Honey who was called Nifty one of Nestle's puppies, she is now in her 3rd week with us and is growing by the day. Honey has settled so well and we are all thrilled with her, she is a really smart little pup and is learning really quickly.  We will keep you updated on her progress.
 Jan & Phil Lalande

Hi,
Hi I adopted Sky on 8th February 2008 and just wanted to let you know how she is doing. We've had our ups and downs with her ability to escape from pretty much anywhere, however, she has settled really well in Cornwall. She lost a lot of weight when I first had her, she was being sick a lot, probably because she was unsettled. But she's overcome this and is now a perfect weight and very healthy. Everyone that sees her falls in love with her because she is so pretty and has such a beautiful temperament. She loves the beach because she can tear around freely and play with other dogs. She regularly comes on holiday to the lake district, and the Brecon Beacons, where she has to stay on a lead due to her love of sheep. She has so much energy and accompanies me on cliff hikes, mountain hikes and beach runs. She also proudly completed the 3 peaks challenge this year. I'm so happy to have Sky, I couldn't be luckier! Thank you.

GORDON

Hi,
Here are a couple of pictures of Gordon and as you can see he is looking quite happy. He has had a week on holiday in the New Forest which he enjoyed.
Gordon loves his food, we have been feeding him several smaller meals a day and he was weighed at the vets yesterday ( 16.7 kilos ). He has had a blood test to see how his kidney and liver are. His ears are improving daily and he also seems to be getting stronger on his hind legs as he can manage a jog at times on his morning walk (was quite wobbly initially).  Plus he has been to the dog groomers .
Gordon is content to mooch around the garden between sleeping and eating, gets on well with our cats, dogs and children. Not a vocal dog, just gruffs when he is waiting for his grub or when you put his
 lead on.
Thank you for letting us rehome him.
 All the best,

Tess now called Sophie

Hi Auntie Sylvia & co, Tess here (now I'm called Sophie) Just to let you know I'm doing really well since leaving you last month. I weigh nearly 9kgs and growing fast, and I'm housetrained as well. When I arrived in my new home I was very unsettled and Mum & Dad had very little sleep, but they put some of their clothes and a clock in my bed and I settled straight away. They spend lots of time with me teaching me how to behave and I'm learning lots of new things. I'm quite good on the lead and have seen lots of new animals, cows are scary and I hide behind Mum, but I don't bark. We've had lots of visitors and they've all brought me presents and chewies. My favourite thing is a piece of knotted rope, it's nearly as big as me, but I carried it all the way home from the river. My big brother Henry is very patient, and we have lots of fun chasing around. He's very well behaved, so I want to be like him when I grow up. Mum and Dad have sent you some photos and will send you some more when I've grown.
Thank you for rescuing me, I'm very happy here in my "Forever Home"
Love from Sophie xxx

Paxton

Hello Sylvia and everyone, Just to let you know that Paxton the Basset Hound puppy is a little gem! He slept all the way home - 3 hour journey - with just one stop for him to have a wee and poo. My other three dogs have accepted him with no problems. Sky, the Dogue de Bordeaux, just wants to play and can't wait for him to get a bit older. Honey, the Rough Collie, is avoiding him at the moment but she is like that with anything new so I am sure she will get use to him in time. Tia, my deaf/blind Basset, seems to have bonded with him as you can see from the attached photos. She was rescued five years ago - she is now 13 years old.
The first night I have to admit that I slept in the chair with him on my lap. After all the good advice I give to our new puppy owners at the Centre ("don't spoil him, be firm, start as you mean to go on, etc. etc.") he just looked so lost, I couldn't bear to leave him! However, the second night and every night since, he has slept in his box in the hall with the others and hasn't made a sound and last night he was clean as well!
Everyone just loves him to bits. He made is first public appearance yesterday our Rescue Centre Open Day. Crowds of people with their dogs, lots of noise and everyone wanting to stroke him but he coped with it all. It will be good once he has had his second vaccination and he can walk around the Centre with me. I am taking him to see a specialist eye vet in Tavistock. One eye has been weeping and seems quite swollen but the other looks as if it may be a cataract but the vet will decide if Paxton needs any treatment or not.
Paxton is a very special little boy and my grandchildren adore him. He certainly won't lack love or attention! Could you let Cheryl, his foster mum, know that he is fine and settled? Will keep in touch, love from Christine (Paxton's Mum)

Ellie

Hi Aunty Sylvia,
Ellie here, just to let you know I am enjoying my forever home very much, and the training is going quite well, I think my new mum and dad will pick things up as we go along.
I have loads of new pals, and we have great fun running together in the park, and they are so nice and friendly, except one horrid doggy that daddy rescued me from, he started off playful, and then suddenly turned nasty and wanted to hurt me, but dad stopped him, I don't know his name, but he was a pit bull and daddy told the owner off for not having him muzzled and under proper control, and we haven't seen him since.
I've met the cat, whose mum and dad call tilly, but when I said hi my name is Ellie what's yours, she told me it was something completely different, and not very nice, so not sure what that is all about, but she doesn't seem overly pleased to see me, but I guess if they keep getting her name wrong you can understand her being a bit miffed.
Well, will let you know how I am from time to time, and daddy has sent you a piccy and a letter which I have attached for him.
Bye for now, and thanks for help when I needed you, you're a great friend, and I owe you my life.
All my love, woofs licks and shaky paws,
 Ellie

Koda

Hi to all at Many Tears
Just a little up date on Koda.  He as been with us one year and he is beautiful, very clean, still a bit nervous but he is getting there.  He gets on so well with my other westie as you can see in the photo.  Koda is on the left.
 Lots of love

Deja Vu now called Mabel

Deja Vu is now called Mabel. She has settled in with the family very well. It's as if she has lived here all her life. She loves to go for walks with the family, enjoys her food and loves to be close to somebody. We can't believe how good she is. She is very attached to her basket and sleeps in my daughters bedroom (what a snorer!). We will be taking her down to the beach this weekend to see what she thinks of sand.

JAKE

At last Jake had a couple meet, greet and adopt him. We hope this goes well for all. Jake had become so sad in kennels despite all the staff's efforts. We are very grateful to all for helping him.

Simba (now called Jake)

Hi guys,
Having realised that we have had Simba (who now goes by the name of Jake) for just over a year we thought it was a good time to let you know who well he has been getting on. We have attached a couple of photos for you. In short we are so pleased to have found Jake. He is such a friendly, calm and gentle giant! He gets on really well with every dog that he meets and whilst some people are wary of him because of his size, everyone that meets him properly thinks he is great. He is also very tolerant of our other dog Lolly who loves him, but sometimes gets on his nerves!
We couldn't imagine not having him around now and are so pleased that we made the trip to Wales to meet him and that we decided to bring him home. If he could I am sure that Jake would want to thank you himself for taking care of him when he really needed someone to look out for him.
Keep up the good work!

Bailey (was Ragu)

We adopted Bailey back in March this year after searching for a long time for the right dog to come along. We certainly seem to have found him. He is a fantastic boy, extremely handsome with beautifully forgiving eyes (especially after running around the garden with our other dogs bed in his mouth and coming back on a perfect recall)!!
We have admittedly had some hard times (and still are having some) but generally he is adorable. He loves licking any part of you he can get away with, whether it be skin or clothes and seems to really enjoy any training I do with him in preparation for agility. We have passed our Kennel Club Puppy Foundation level so he has his first rosette, and are starting on the bronze after the summer break. He has also now experienced camping twice over the spring/summer which he coped with very well, has approached horses, sheep and cows and seems sound with all of them, he loves the kids, especially chasing them on their scooters!
I must thank Bailey's foster home ( for all the hard work you put in to his first experience of family life, I am sure it started him on the right path and big thanks to you all at Many Tears, your work is amazing and so rewarding to many, many people.

TROY

 Dear Sylvia & James
A quick letter just to let you know how Troy is doing. It's been 2 weeks now and I can honestly say that I've had no problems with him trying to escape.  He is a sweetheart! He gets on with all the others especially Morris they play together all day and when they have had enough they cuddle up for 40 winks! The only problems so far are cat chasing and barking at everything, but I have someone coming on Friday for a 2 hour one to one session with Troy and Morris before we can start training sessions within a group.  She feels they would benefit from this as they would have no distractions. I will let you know how we get on later.

CHARLIE BROWN

This is Charlie Brown who has been with us for two months now. These are the 2 latest pictures of our super slimmer who has lost 8 pounds since he has been with us - all due to exercise. Charlie is very pleased that it has not been necessary to reduce his meals! As you will see, his coat has improved and he now looks a very sleek boy indeed. He has been going to training classes, although he is currently enjoying a summer holiday, and there has been a big improvement in his behaviour, especially in the house. Some work still needs to be done outside, when he can be distracted by people and other dogs, on recall and walking on a lead. He is a very friendly, handsome dog and everybody likes him. We plan to extend his training next month by also taking him to outside activity classes.

Ken

Ken was one of 3 Airedales up for adoption last October.  Ken has settled in really well.  We kept his name as he had been passed around a few times we didn't think it was fare to take away his identity. Ken has been with us for 10 months now, he loves going for walks and he loves the car which sends him to sleep. He tries to play big boss man with K-Ci our standard poodle and she lets him get away with it.  He is still a little timid of some things but doesn't mind going to the groomers. We are glad we adopted him as he and K-Ci love each other and he is such a lovely dog.

TIP TOP NOW CALLED TIPPY

Hi Sylvia
I thought I would send you an update on our little lady adopted from you as Tip Top but now called Tippy. We’ve had her now since May and are both delighted that she has settled into her new family life with us just beautifully.
Tippy, like most Jack Russell’s has a very individual personality. She is always ready at the door to greet whoever comes through with a lively wag of her tail and in most cases a lot of noise. She likes to play with children and is very patient and sweet natured around them. Men are still a bit scary to Tippy and she often goes flat to the floor if approached by a strange man, but when they have won her over with lots of stroking and talking, she’s happy to be fussed.
Tippy has found lots of new friends to play with when she goes out walking, although there are also couple she’s not quite so fond of, but on the whole she’s well behaved with other dogs. Tippy is fortunate enough to have a diet which mostly consists of dry food and roast chicken and any bread which she can steal from the birds.
Bedtime varies in Tippy’s life, basically, if she’s tired she disappears and we quite often find her curled up on the pillows or burrowed under the quilt!  We had our first trip to the beach last weekend which was a real treat. The waves were hellish annoying as they insisted on chasing her and even biting didn’t deter them, just gave her a very dry mouth!
We are so grateful to Many Tears for allowing us to give our little lady a 2nd chance. Tippy is a beautiful dog and it’s hard to believe that she was discarded by her previous owners. We have spent lots of happy walks together, exploring new places and making new friends, people are constantly remarking what a pretty girl she is. If she’d of been a boy we would have renamed her ‘Jackpot’ without a doubt, as we really feel that we have hit the jackpot.
Kind regards to all at Many Tears.

Florence now known as Bryher

Hi,
I thought yo would like to hear and see how I am getting on now. I was adopted in May 2009 and renamed Bryher. At the time I still had a very sparse coat, totally bald ears and underside. Now I have got a marvellous thick coat all over. I am especially proud of my ears which were a little embarrassing when bald as I looked like a cat!! As you can see I am now a very happy and beautiful dog. I love to play and my favourite toy is a flower pot! I am attending regular training classes and will be taking my Bronze Citizen Award soon.
Thank you everyone at Many Tears for saving me and my doggy family and to Jane for letting me come and live with my new human family.
Love from Bryher Owned by Sue Wrenn and Family.

Timothy now called Benson

Hi,
Well it’s only a week since I came with Scraps to pick Timothy up and in many ways it seems much longer ago as he seems to have been part of the house for a long long time. It was probably a very long trip in the car for Timothy, he had been slobbering a bit by the time I got him out of the car, but apart from that, not a peep out of him the whole 3 and half hours journey home.
Timothy has settled in wonderfully, sleeps in the same bed as Scraps, perfectly house trained, learnt to use the dog flap, has a wonderful “song” in the morning when I come down stairs and quietens down as soon as I say “thank you”. After a week, he now walks well on lead and has learnt that he stays on my left, with Scraps, otherwise my big feet get in the way! I’ve not let him off lead yet, but he is a hound, so until I know his recall is getting near perfect he won't be off lead out in the open anywhere, but in the meanwhile he is able to run and explore as far as the “long lead” allows him to when we are away from roads.
Food issues – Well I’m not going to be complacent and say “what food issues?”, but this boy has worked out who is boss and where he fits in the with the pecking order in the house. He also knows it’s my food and he gets it as and when I say he can have it. I started the week feeding him in the way that MTAR showed me and I have since progressed that to getting him to go to his bed and then I take a handful of the food and only when I call him is he allowed to eat the food from my hand. When that handful is done, he goes back to his bed and waits for me to get the next handful, kneel down and then call him over to have that. When he eats from my hand, his tail wags and he is happy being stroked with my free hand as I tell him what a good boy he is. I will keep this routine up for at least a month, so it reinforces who is boss and whose food it is. He knows where the dog food is kept in the house and pays no attention to that cupboard unless I go to it – but keeps his distance when I tell him “No” or “Leave it”. He is fed separately from Scraps; I don’t see any point in trying to push the boundaries in to doing that just yet. At best, it will be that they both gobble their food down as quickly as possible so they could get to the others bowl or worse WW3 could break out. But, so far, I can’t say I’ve seen “food aggression”, but more like “food enthusiasm” from him, but as I said before, I have no room to be complacent as we’ve not gone through all (not even most) of the food related situations yet.
Friends have come over to visit and Timothy has been the perfect "gent" wanting to say hello and great them as they come in, then is happy to be petted and "cooed" over and then goes off to be a dog with Scraps. He likes a cuddle or to lay by my feet in the evening. Yes, I’m one of those people who likes to have the sofa for my friends and myself and as much as I love my dogs I don’t sleep in their bed (however drunk I get), so they don’t get to sleep on mine or the sofas!
He’s been to the vets, to be registered and given the “once over” and behaved wonderfully there. There needs to be some work done on his teeth, major amount of tartar build up on most of them and there are at least two teeth that have been broken. With the amount of tartar, we can’t see how bad his teeth are under it all, so it will be a bit of wait and see. This work will need him to be asleep at the time, so I’m not rushing to do that to him just yet – I’ll give him a month to settle in properly before I leave him at the vets for the day to have this work done as he doesn’t seem to be in any pain or discomfort with it all.
I’m not one of life’s photographers, I don’t have a camera (well apart from the one on my mobile and they are never great quality) and walking two dogs, when one is on a long lead, carrying poop bags both full & empty and keeping an eye out for cyclists, joggers, horses etc is not accommodating to well focused and framed pictures, so when I’m out with a friend who is happy to "snap" away I’ll send in some pictures for you. In the meanwhile though, here is one of the little man lounging out in the garden.
 Best wishes, J
P.S. I’ve started calling him “Benson” as he didn’t seem that attached to “Timothy” and he is beginning to come to me when called it. I think, as the old joke goes, he’s happy to be called anything, as long as I don’t call him late for dinner.
