ARE YOU UP FOR A CHALLENGE?

ARE YOU UP FOR A CHALLENGE?
Serren is indesperate need of a home but is struggling to find one.
Ben is a dog behaviourist and Kirsty is a vet nurse, here is what they had to
say about Serren.

SEREN

Seren is a beautiful Rottweiler who takes time to trust you.  She is very unsure at the moment after losing her home. She enjoys her walks here at the centre, but she will need an experienced owner as she can become aggressive towards other dogs if not handled correctly.  Here she walks past and with other dogs with no problem but any bad behaviour is corrected so she knows what is expected of her. She is very clever and easy to train.  She knows commands in Welsh and English this proves how clever she is. She likes to work for food and this could benefit a new owner in building her trust in people. To find out more about Seren click here

IS YOUR DOG FED ON BURNS?

Have you adopted a dog from Many Tears and continued to feed it on Burns as we recommend?  If so and your dog has thrived on this excellent food please send your story and pictures to info@manytearsrescue.org.  We may feature any of these on our Burns page.

POLLY

10-11-09 Polly is a very sweet 6yr old ex breeding yorkie. Although nervous she really wants to be loved and comes up for a gentle fuss. She will need a home with another dog to help her build her confidence so please only apply if you already have a small gentle and friendly dog or dogs living in the home.

PLEASE NOTE: We nearly always home ex-breeding dogs where there is ALREADY A RESIDENT DOG living in the house. They have usually never lived in a house before and are only used to canine company.  They get their confidence and learn faster with another dog to copy from. This also helps with house training and learning how to walk on a lead. They will make lovely pets but do need a lot of love, time and patience. If the ex breeding dog you are interested in can be an only dog it will say so in its write up.

This dog is at the main rescue centre in Llanelli, Carmarthenshire.
IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN ADOPTING THIS DOG:
Please read our
adoption procedures before applying and complete the Adoption Form. You will be contacted within 24 hours. If successful you will be home checked and you and all members of your family and any dog(s) who will be living with the dog MUST come to meet the new dog. All our dogs are micro-chipped, inoculated and spayed/neutered unless there is a medical reason for not doing so. If you are adopting a puppy you will need to provide details of training classes in your area. We ask for a minimum adoption fee of £150 for dogs at the centre.

MURRAY

BEING FOSTERED IN NEWPORT, GWENT

27-10-09  Murray is a 5yr old male Shih Tzu. He has been a stud dog all his life and needs another dog to live with to help him learn about what's expected.  He doesn't walk on a lead or has never lived in a home so kindness and patience is needed.   Please only apply for Murray if you have another dog or dogs living in the house who will help him.

04-11-09 UPDATE

Dear little Murray has been with me for 4 days and is quickly learning to be a proper dog. He did mark a lot the first day but the has got so much better.  At first he used to go to the toilet in his bed that's minimal now and house training gets better every day. He gets on well with 3 of my dogs but has had a few squabbles with my Jack Russell boy but they will also cuddle up together on the sofa with the others.  They are sat just a few inches apart while I'm writing this with Murray's head on my JR's back falling asleep.
Murray could also be an only dog as long as he wasn't left on his own as he loves cuddling with me.  He loves his teddies and squeakies and runs around with the others carrying them.  He has a beautiful glossy coat and will be a stunner when it grows.
Murray was quite skinny when he came but is having 3 good meals a day of Burns which he loves and is looking so much better already.  He's not much into  lead walking at the moment so I have put him on an extended lead walking him around the garden then putting my dogs on it for him to watch.  He's quite a happy little chappy and has come so far in the short time I've had him so will settle quickly.  He is also very handsome and will make a lovely pet.

10-11-09 UPDATE

Murray has been coming on leaps and bounds.  His housetraining is almost there and he is a very happy little boy. He and my JR have now become friends but think it was jealousy vying for my attention on both parts. He also loves my other 3 and cuddles up with all of them especially my blind shih tzu boy. Murray is fab with kids and doesn't have a bad bone in his body.  He's had absolutely no aggression with anyone or anything and learnt  to sit and wait for his food.  He will only eat the others if they leave theirs and not dive in while they're still eating.  He will sit for his treats and his lead training is coming on as he gets more confident everyday but he is not pushy at all.
Murray loves to bounce around playing with me too and dances on his back legs when he gets excited which is so cute.  If you're looking for a friendly little dog who will reward you tenfold don't wait til it's too late - come meet and fall in love with him.

LIGHT

BEING FOSTERED IN BERKSHIRE

22-10-09 Light is a 4 year old Schnauzer who is longer needed by her breeder. Light is a lovely girl who is braver than most of the ex breeding types that we see here. She will still need another dog in her home but we expect her to learn a new life pretty quickly.  Please only apply if you already have a resident dog or dogs living in the home.

PLEASE NOTE: We nearly always home ex-breeding dogs where there is ALREADY A RESIDENT DOG living in the house. They have usually never lived in a house before and are only used to canine company.  They get their confidence and learn faster with another dog to copy from. If the ex breeding dog you are interested in can be an only dog it will say so in its write up.

10-11-09 UPDATE
Light has only been with me for a couple of days but already she is an absolute joy! Unlike most of the ex-breeding dogs that I've cared for, she is outgoing, friendly and will actively seek to be cuddled and fussed! She has fitted in immediately with my other dogs and loves them and they her and she is equally good with my cats, bless her! She isn’t great on the lead yet, but will soon learn, especially now that she understands all about treats!
Light would fit very easily into a home as long as they have another small, friendly and confident dog to befriend her. She likes the other Schnauzers a lot but equally is very taken with my small unassertive collie girl. She is good in the car, good in the house, and easy to handle. She would fit into a family with children over 10 years as she does get startled by loud noises. She would like her new home to have a tumble dryer, please, as she is fascinated by mine and will spend long periods absorbed in watching the washing rotate!
Light is a gorgeous, loving, sweet-natured young lady who will make a wonderful dog for some lucky person.

MOJO

17-10-09 Poor Mojo, he is only 9 mths old and is now looking for his third home. He was in the pound as he was being left all day, a lady then took him on, but had him for just under a week and realized just how much a collie needs. She felt she could not give him what he needed so he is now here with us. He is a super sweet boy. He has got good hearing (although not all white dogs do). He sat nicely for his photo although I feel it took him all of his self restraint to do so. He needs a job, please do not apply unless you have a super active life that this boy can be involved with 110%. He would be an ideal candidate for agility or fly ball or running! He is great with people, great with dogs and house trained. I don't know if he has seen cats, but we can test.

20-10-09 UPDATE

Mojo is really quite a good looking fellow, though you wouldn’t necessarily think it from his pictures! He is a smart guy and despite having moved around so much in his short life, he knows how to sit and lie down with a verbal cue and hand signal. He loved training with the clicker this morning and quickly learnt to target my hand with his nose for tasty food rewards! He is young and active, friendly and affectionate and really deserves to be in a home where he can have fun and be loved by people.

Jemma

09-11-09 UPDATE

Here's Mojo having fun with Annie before she went off to her new home. Mojo is a lovely, clever and loving boy. He is waiting for that special someone to see what a super and faithful dog he will be. Is that you? If so please fill in the application form.

PEPPIE

BEING FOSTERED IN READING, BERKSHIRE

15-10-09 Peppie Is a 3year old collie. He has always lived with Maddie, although they would be ok to be home separately. They having been living with a tiny baby and have been perfect, but since the baby has arrived they have made some mistakes with their house training (although had been perfect previously).  Both Maddie and Peppie are under weight but have been loved as, and have a very nice write up with them. They would benefit having something to do with their brains, these two are more than just sit around at home dogs, they would like to have a job, maybe obedience, agility, flyball or even jogging
.

09-11-09 UPDATE
We have been fostering Peppie 3 weeks now; everybody that stops to talk loves him! (Peppie thinks this is how it should be).  He was reserved but changes meant he never made it to his new home.  Over the last few weeks he had become a lot more confident, reacts well to all types of command words but has kept his cheeky attitude to life. He loves going out for walks except when it is raining, when he just looks at you with a “are you mad” look on his face. Quite happy to walk around local roads on a lead - day or night. Thinks the woods are the best as long as he can see you and always comes back when called.
Peppie likes footballs, which can be a bit tricky in the park and behaves well with other dogs he meets. Also very good at chasing and retrieving tennis balls.  He is always happy to see you; his tail is better than any air-conditioner on fan on the market. Gets on well with children and would get on with our cats if they stopped spitting at him for a moment.
Peppie needs a family that will treat him well, give him attention and exercise on a regular basis. He will return your efforts many times over and will make an excellent addition to the family.

MATILDA

27-10-09 Matilda is an extremely sweet 1yr old cav bitch. She came in with her little baby girl called Mini who is just 3 weeks old BUT Mini is unwell.  We have decided to take Mini off her mum as Matilda really doesn't want to know her anymore, and although she has been a very good mummy, she would much prefer to be cuddled than look after Mini.  She will be ready for her new home once she's been spayed.

PLEASE NOTE: We nearly always home ex-breeding dogs where there is ALREADY A RESIDENT DOG living in the house. If the ex breeding dog you are interested in can be an only dog it will say so in its write up.

09-11-09 UPDATE
DON'T all rush to adopt this dog as I'm in no hurry for her to go and I could quite easily become a failed fosterer again!! Matilda (we have shortened it to Tilly) is absolutely adorable. You could not wish for a nicer dog.  She is a cav so that's to be expected anyway; as no doubt all cav owners will confirm. She has beautiful markings and her party trick to get your attention is to balance on her two hind legs, quite comical to witness. Perhaps she's a meerkat in disguise!
Matilda takes a little time to trust but once she gets to know you she is quite happy to follow you around and come for a cuddle. It is apparent she is more relaxed when there is another dog around, so she MUST be homed with another friendly dog who will be happy to share a bed with her. She is 99% housetrained, sleeps all night without a sound, is friends to everyone she knows and walks around with a continually wagging tail. So there we are what more could you want?  Apart from wanting to adopt her. Be quick!

MINI

27-10-09 Mini is just 3 weeks old and is Matilda's baby.  She is unwell at the moment so is not available until we know more about what is wrong with her. Mini is very unbalanced and goes in circles.  Our vet has seen her and feels it could be a spinal issue, or maybe something she will grow out of, but we will have to wait a couple of weeks to see how she goes.

PLEASE NOTE: We nearly always home ex-breeding dogs where there is ALREADY A RESIDENT DOG living in the house. 26-10-09 Scott is a 5 year  an ex stud westie.   it's the only life he's ever known so will need another dog to live with to help him to understand about houses. He is extremely cute. This lovely boy is now ready for the life of luxury!

If the ex breeding dog you are interested in can be an only dog it will say so in its write up.

09-11-09 UPDATE

Hi everyone Scott here I'm slowly settling in to home life. I have done a little scent marking but that is stopping
but my toilet training is going very well. I travel well in the car and sleep all night. I get on great with the other dogs and cats. I'm very timed so would need a home with no young children as they would scare me. I also need to be homed with another dog to help build my  confidence. I love cuddles and will come up to people but I do it very slowly, so will need you to be patience with me. My foster mum says I'm a very handsome chap and will make a lovely addition to any home. My favourite spot is in front of the fire, so if you have room in front of your fire for me please fill out the form below.

GAIL

BEING FOSTERED IN CORSHAM, WILTSHIRE

19-10-09 Gail is a very sweet westie. At some point she has had a large trauma to her side, which is all but healed now. She is 5 years old and has always been a breeding dog, so has not experienced any sort of home life.

09-11-09 UPDATE

Hi everyone
I have settled into home life very well. My toilet training is going very well. I love my food and I'm learning to walk on a lead, I love going into the field and running around with the other dogs. I get on great with the cats. I love people and playing with toys. I travel well in the car and sleep all night. That's all my good points, now for the not so good. I get on and love to play with the other dogs but I'm very bossy and will snap and nip the other dogs when they get in my way or if I don't want to share my bed or toy.  I don't do it all the time, but I don't care what size dog I do it to, I'm trying very hard not to be like it. I get on well with my foster mum's, daughter's year old male westie as he likes to play rough and when I get a little unfriendly he runs off. So I either need to be an only dog or with another dog than can cope with my not so good manners. Apart from that I'm very cute and ove cuddles and am very well behaved with people.
Love and licks Gail x x

SOONER

kBEING FOSTERED IN WARMINSTER, WILTSHIRE

 22-09-09
Sooner is a 2 year old dog friendly lurcher. He is a funny, happy fellow who is a little under greyhound height. He would love you to come and meet him - PLEASE!!!!!

13-10-09 UPDATE
I picked Sooner up on Sunday. He has no issues about travelling in a car. He's an incredibly affectionate and very clever dog who takes an interest in everything, takes well to commands and learns really quickly. Lead training and house training are both coming on well. In fact he's been clean in the house for the last 24 hours.
So far he's slept through the night without trouble, too. He doesn't bark at all. I've left him for a couple hours in a room by himself when I went out, and he seemed perfectly content to be alone - as long as he has a comfortable bed to curl up in, a ball to play with and something to eat, not much else matters to this happy-natured, handsome dog.
All in all, he is adorable and very loveable indeed!

 16-10-09 UPDATE

What a fabulous dog Sooner is! Loving and affectionate, but also very spirited and lively. He's great fun to have around, an incredibly quick learner and, according to the dog trainer who gave him a lesson yesterday, very intelligent. In fact, he was learning to do tricks within the space of half an hour, and absolutely loved it!
What more could anyone want in a dog? He's incredibly handsome and special, eager to learn, and everyone he meets falls in love with him.   As you can see he's made himself thoroughly comfortable here, but would love a forever home where his new master or mistress would really enjoy training him. And hopefully there'd be another playful dog in the house, too.

02-11-09 UPDATE
Sooner's now been with me for three weeks, and I can't understand why no Lurcher-lover has snapped him up yet. He's a real character, endearing, affectionate, very loveable and such fun to have around.  He's also very handsome - everyone he meets falls in love with him. Watching him run is a joy - he's as fast as a racehorse and takes such pleasure in it.
He loves to play with other dogs, and isn't aggressive with them. Yesterday he went to an ex-Many Tears puppy's first birthday party, and had a wonderful time playing with five other, smaller dogs. It was chaos but he behaved impeccably! However, I think he's slightly too large to be homed with anything smaller than a Jack Russell, or with very young children.
Sooner seldom barks, is not destructive when left, and sleeps in his basket all night without disturbing anyone. He's now 100% housetrained, and sits to command - as long as there's a treat in it for him. His recall still needs working on; at the moment it's hit and miss.
Lurcher-savvy owners, a comfortable bed, and another playful dog, or even a whole pack of them, would suit Sooner perfectly. If you meet him you're sure to fall for him. He's irresistible!!

09-11-09 UPDATE (FROM SOONER'S NEW FOSTER HOME)
Sooner came to live with me on Saturday (7/11) and what a star he is!! He is so gentle and kind with my children (aged 6 and 8) and loves it when they fuss him and tickle his tummy. Sooner is a typical young lurcher in that he loves nothing more than some exercise and a filled kong but once he has worn his energy off will sleep for hours. He is clean in the house, playful but not pushy with other dogs and a real charmer all round.
Sooner is not too strong on the lead and (unless there is a particularly interesting blade of grass) you barely know he is there. If you are looking for a gorgeous, affectionate, young dog who is so soft and soppy yet so intelligent and full of fun, then look no further Sooner is the one for you!

SUMMER

08-11-09 Summer is a 5 year old cavalier who has been retired by her breeder. This lovely girl is great with other dogs and will be a perfect companion for any dog. She is a little nervous though and hasn't any experience of pet life.  She will need another dog to follow so please only apply if you already have another dog or dogs living in the home.

SAY ME

08-11-09 Say Me is a gorgeous retriever puppy - about 6 months old. She has lived outside on a farm but has grown to be a naughty with chickens and needs a new home. Say Me is very sweet and friendly but like our ex breeding dogs has no experience of the life that we want to give her so she will need another dog to show her the way.  Please only apply for Say Me if you already have another dog or dogs living in the home.  This will help her learn about home living, house training etc so much quicker.

SAUCER

08-11-09 Saucer is a 1 year old pom.  This boy has grown to big for his breeder to stud and so is looking for a pet home. That said he's still very small, just larger than the breeder would like for this breed. Saucer is still young but like the rest of our ex breeding dogs needs a very understanding home, with another dog and where his family don't leave him alone for very long or very often.  Please only apply for Saucer if you already have another dog or dogs living in the house.

SUNDAY

08-11-09 Sunday is a 6 year old cocker who is longer needed by her breeder and wants to go to home and curl up in front of the fire. URCHIN

BEING FOSTERED IN BREAN, SOMERSET

11-05-09 Urchin is a 6 year old terrier cross who we collected from the pound. This poor boy is really feeling lost at the moment.  He must have once been someone's loyal friend and how he's ended up at the pound is beyond us. Urchin is good with other dogs and happy to meet people but is desperate to be loved and cared for.  He seems so lost and confused to be stuck here in our kennels as if he is missing someone. Urchin also has a broken tail which hopefully can be rectified very easily.

20-06-09 UPDATE

After arriving home with Urchin he was very lively but after a few days and a lot of energy sapping walks he started to settle with my other dogs, although I was concerned by his broken tail it does not seem to cause him any problems at all. Urchin needs to be homed with an experienced owner as being a typical terrier he wants to chase everything that moves and that would probably include cats. Urchin can be dominant with some dogs and I suspect this is because he has had to look after himself in his previous home, that apart he is a very affectionate and people friendly dog that does not seem to be bothered by children.
Urchin is not food aggressive as he eats with my dogs, is house trained, walks well on a lead and is not bothered by traffic or strange noises. He is happy to be left with the other dogs for a few hours and settles down in his bed for the night at about 8pm. Urchin needs and deserves an active fun home with plenty of stimulating activity, he will run quite happily by the side of a bike, could live on his own but would need to keep up the socialisation with other dogs.

08-11-09 UPDATE

Here's the dilemma six months down the road and Urchin is still here (not a problem as we all love him).  He is very settled and has found his place in my pack.  It has not been plain sailing for us or for him.  He has his faults still as I can't wholly trust him off lead as he would chase anything that was fair game. It goes against the grain for me to keep a dog on a lead as I enjoy seeing them running free, plus he has issues with the odd dog, those are his only faults.
Urchin enjoys being in the garden with my husband and will follow him around all day.  I can even trust him in the chicken run now.  Indoors he is no trouble at all, in fact he has even become a bit of a lap dog and when I put the fire on he gets so close I worry he might go up in smoke.
I would love for him to have a rural home with lots of land to run free, sheds to explore and a human mate with maybe a laid back dog or two.  Actually I quite fancy the rural home myself maybe we should just all move.

JEDI

BEING FOSTERED LITTLE HALE, LINCOLNSHIRE

01-09-09 Jedi is a 4 year old scared little male Jack Russell. He was literally rescued from kids using him as a foot ball. His trust in anyone and anything is minimal at the moment so he needs a lot of TLC.

28-09-09 UPDATE

Jedi is a sweet loveable boy but he has been used as a football by kids in the past and because of this he is mistrustful of kids and has and could snap because of this. He is looking for a home with no children and if any visited he would need to have his own safe place where he feels safe and secure.  His fosterer did not have a safe place for him at her house and so she has sadly decided to bring him back to the centre.
Jedi is looking for an adult home (he will make a very faithful friend) either with or without another dog.  However, if there is another dog in the house he would be better with a calm and gentle dog who does not want too much rough and tumble play.  Please give Jedi a chance he needs a home where he can learn to trust.

15-10-09 UPDATE
Jedi arrived on Saturday 10 October, first impressions were that he was very nervous, feeling sorry for himself and has been badly let down. So far he has been well adjusted and has shown no aggression or bad manners. He does not like our two larger dogs, Border Collie and std Poodle, he makes snappy noises at them if he is on a chair and they get too close. He appears fearful of them, which may be something to do with his history on the streets. However he is learning that this is not acceptable (by placing him on the floor), and these incidents are rare to nil now.
He is fine with the cavs, cockers and JRT. We have encountered children off the school bus (ages 11/15 or thereabouts) and he was not troubled at all. He loves his food and his walks and is quite happy to snooze in the sun. He does not wish to play or interact with the others. He seems quite placid and does not crave attention or exercise. He seems very attached to the men in the family and this is worrying, as he should be found his forever home as soon as possible, so that he does not get moved on any more.
We have perfected recall, with the aid of treats and he will come, nervously, he needs lots of encouragement and needs to discover what cuddles and nice things are all about. This morning he was wagging and his eyes had a little sparkle that I have not seen before, he looks softer and more relaxed. Hopefully his forever home will be found soon, he is a grand chap, and I'm sure he is capable of giving more than he will take. He could stay, but I have 9 others. LOL!

23-10-09 UPDATE

Jedi is doing really well, much more relaxed and sleeping much more. He has found himself a soft toy which he loves, a big red Santa, which is as big as he is, he 'murders' it sometimes though! I have promised that he can take it with him to his forever home. We feel that he is ready for his new forever home now, before we fall even more in love with him! preferably as an only dog, but would tolerate a small companion. He is much better mixing with our lot now, but is nervous at times around them, especially the larger ones, He prefers to be taken for a walk on his own as he doesn't like the jostling and bumping. This may get better with time, but ideally he would rather be without them. His basic obedience is progressing, he will walk on the lead, 'close' now with no pulling and his recall is very good, he loves his treats and is very trainable, he loves his food too, will have to watch that he doesn't put on too much weight!. He is still very serious at times with the woes of the world on him, he shakes at times when you pick him up, but he has definitely discovered that he likes cuddles and soft beds. Hopefully his very own mom and dad will come for him soon, so that he can have the one to one attention he so very well deserves.

08-11-09 UPDATE

Jedi is progressing well.  he has found his bark! A really deep one and lets rip when his 'daddy' comes home from work! Other than that we don't hear him at all. He is becoming more tolerant of the other canines in the family and becoming much more relaxed and happy. He likes nothing better than to be a lap dog all day and all night. His training is coming along well and we are having some wonderful one to one experiences.  He has tuned in well to the clicker and is becoming funny and adorable. He has mastered the doggie door and lets himself out when he needs.  He so loves his food he is isolated at mealtimes as he whooshes his food down, always the first to finish and then thinks he can tidy up after the others! He gets so excited it's the best part of his day.
Adorable and delightful are not words that I thought I would be using for him but there you are - he is!  He is also receptive to learning, happy to please and on the whole a pleasure to have around. I so hope his new mum and dad will come forward soon.  He has so much to give to the right people. He really deserves to be the number one in somebody's life.

MISS MATCH

BEING FOSTERED IN SWANSEA

27-10-09 Miss Match is a very sweet cocker. She is 4 yrs old and very forwardgoing although she has been a breeding girlie. She would happily be an only dogs and loves to be fussed and cuddled. She probably has never been in a house so will need house training etc.
Although we nearly always home ex-breeding dogs where there is another dog living in the house  Miss Match is an exception to the rule as she is very confident and does not need others dogs to give her courage. However it may take her longer to learn about house training as she has no dog to copy but with kindness and patience she will learn.

04-11-09 UPDATE

We picked Miss Match up and she travelled back very well in the car.  She was very good having a bath and she let me dry her.  Miss Match loves human company rather than dog company I have my own dog but she  just wants to be in the same room as me and she cries if she can't see me.  She loves going out on her lead for a walk and waits well for her food.  Toilet training is going very well and she good with both my toddler and teenager.  Miss Match could be good an only dog as long as was not left for long on her own.

08-11-09 UPDATE
Miss Match has been with me for a week now and she is coming on well.  Her toilet training is getting much better and would sit on your lap all day long if you let her.  When you stop smoothing her she paws you as she is enjoying the cuddles.  She could go to a home where there are children as long as they are kind and gentle.

ORPHAN PUPS

These pups will be ready for their homes around 14th November and we are taking applications for them now.

13 pups were thrown away under a bush. A vet took them till they could find a rescue to help, We received 9 as the others died from hypothermia. A mercy dash to Leah in Tunbridge wells will put them in expert hands and give them the best chance, but as they may have received no colostrums they may have little chance. Please pray for them and their poor mum, who could be anywhere!

To read the pups story click here.

These guys are the dream breed.....whatever you would like them to be they can be!  We really aren't sure what they are, but guess that they will be small to medium in size. These are extremely forward going pups, that have had 110% of people time all their lives so will need a home where there is somebody around a lot of the time. They are used to cats, dogs, kids, vacuums' and bathes.

GIFT

Gift is so sweet, she adores being cuddled and loved. Her leg is taking a while to heal and I'm still worried about it so will be taking her to a specialist on Monday back near my house. She will need a super special home who will follow my exercise guide to the "T". I hope she will grow up to show no signs of this, but we will wait and see what the specialist says. Gift may have to stay a little longer until her leg is sorted out.

GOSH

Gosh is so sweet, he'll always be first to greet you, and unlike the otherswill say hello even if there is food around. He still loves to explore andhave a good game of tuggy on him toys. He has grown the most leg, and reallywants to be a whippet.......we'll see.

GIDDY

Giddy is so pretty, she has a slightly longer coat than the others and a deep red tinge to it. She loved to pose for the camera. She too loves a cuddle, once she has done enough exploring.

GAMBLE

Gamble-Her nose is improving all the time. I’m not sure if it will ever be perfect, but who wants a perfect dog, she is unique! It certainly doesn’t bother her. She adores having a cuddle when she can sit still long enough.

GANDER

Gander was a nightmare to try and get a picture of. No sooner did you let her go she was off again! She is beautifully showing off the collar she would like when she is older. She is into everything and would love an active life.

GOOSE

Goose was as equally naughty to get a picture of as gander, he would just run at the camera as soon as you let go, really that is because of the amazing recall training that I have given him. He is a really active puppy and loves to run around and play. He felt that having a bath was wasting his time and howled and protested the whole time, which was very funny.

BEING FOSTERED IN MILTON KEYNES, BUCKINGHAMSHIRE

28-10-09 Yuma has been returned to her foster home today.  Her owners have found her to be food orientated and with a young child in the home it was very easy for Yuma to steal food.  She is not aggressive with this and her fosterer is going to put Yuma back on Burns and increase her food intake to see if this has any effect and will monitor her toilet training as they said they have also had problems with this and will then do an update.
Yuma is a very affectionate dog and loves to snuggle and cuddle on the sofa.  She walks well on the lead and her recall is fairly good but does depend on what else is going on!  She gets on well with other dogs and children but like many dogs will chew toys if they are left on the floor!  She does not like to be left alone for long and would benefit for having another dog in the home for company and to be her friend.

29-10-09 UPDATE
Now that Yuma has been here for a couple of days I've been able to assess the problems mentioned by her previous adopters. She has become quite food orientated. We have increased her food which will hopefully help curb this behaviour.  She has developed spring loaded legs that would put Zebedee to shame! She can jump very high in search of food and will jump up at me if she thinks I have any in my hand. We are working on this. She has, however, learnt that children are a source of food so I don't think a home with small children would be advisable purely because she may inadvertently hurt a small child by jumping. She will sit for a treat and for her food though she has ants in her pants & can only manage a sit for a few seconds! She is learning that all the jumping in the world will not get her a treat but sitting nicely will. Her adopters will need to reinforce this amd be consistent.
Yuma has had a few toilet accidents in the house. I believe this is due to anxiety because she will do it randomly when she's already been outside or is able to get outside because the door is open. I have been crate training her and she slept in her crate by my bed for 9 hours last night without having an accident. This shows me that she's weeing in the house by choice not necessity which makes it a trainable situation. I have been taking her outside regularly and giving her lots of praise & a treat every time she wees outside so she will learn that doing it outside is much more rewarding than doing it inside!
I haven't seen her chew a single thing since she's been back which is how she was before. Again I think the toy chewing was an anxiety thing. Having said that though I do always tell my own children that if something is on the floor its fair game! I haven't tried leaving her yet but will be doing so later on today. She was fine being left for 2 or 3 hours before and I really don't think it will be any different this time though I will build it up slowly just to make sure. She did have perfect recall before too so when I feel she's ready (or when I'm ready as I'm a bit of a "better safe than sorry" kind of person!) I will test this and see how she is.
Yuma is the most delightful girl and once she has bonded with you she will be your friend for life. She is brilliant with all my dogs and fantastic with my children aged 11 and 13. She has slotted back in here as if she has never been away and in the right home she will flourish." I will update again once I've assessed the being left & the recall.

06-11-09 UPDATE
Well what a difference a week makes! Yuma is now almost 100% clean in the house ~ 2 accidents in 4 days is such an improvement. She is a very chilled girl now & although she wolfs her food down & enjoys a treat (or three) she is no longer demanding food all the time. It seems like the Burns has worked its magic & because she isn't hungry she is feeling calmer & happier.
She hasn't been destructive or chewed anything at all & she has the run if the house here so plenty of opportunities if she wanted to. She has now been off lead & her recall is brilliant ~ I think knowing that I have tasty treats in my pocket has helped with that!   She's crate trained & sleeps in her crate all night & I pop her in if I go out during the day. I have left her for 2 hours now & she just sleeps while I'm out.
Yuma is a sensitive soul & like all dogs needs to feel safe & secure. She really needs a calm household where she feels safe & loved & she will thrive on routine & consistency.

BARNEY & DD

BARNEY                            DD

Attention all Dalmatian lovers out there: Barney and DD are 2 great dogs looking for a new home! Put a few treats in your pocket and Barney will be your best friend! He knows how to sit and I’ve no doubt he will work for his food. He has a lovely big smile and enjoys a good scratch. DD is very lovely; she tiptoes around like a little fairy. She likes to play fetch and loves to cuddle. Please do get in touch if you think you may be able to offer these two a home.
 Jemma

22-10-09 Barney is a 4 year old Dalmatian and DD is his 7 year old mum.  They have been returned after 2 years in their home through no fault of their own. They have been the perfect dogs for 2 years and sadly their owner has lost his job and his house and can no longer keep them. We would like them home together as they have always been together. Both are house trained, love people and kids but need a home with NO CATS. Barney is rather over weight at the moment and really could do with a home that enjoys long walks and DD is a very sweet girl who tells Barney off from time to time like any good mum would do!

BORIS

BEING FOSTERED IN CARDIGAN, CEREDIGION

06-10-09 Boris is a 6 year old gentle giant. He has lived his whole life in a flat and has never been out for a walk.  Subsequently he has very flat feet.  This shouldn’t cause him any problems but is very sad. He was very sweet and loved having a cuddle when he arrived and just took everything in his stride. He truly is a magnificent fellow! So if you have room enough for this big bear and his accompanying drawling shoe laces please get in touch!

21-10-09 UPDATE
Hello my name is Boris or as my foster mum calls me BABY BORIS, I am a St Bernard. I am looking for a family of my own that I can love and be with permanently. If you want a loyal companion please take a look at me. I may be big but I am a gentle giant. If I sound like the dog for you please adopt me.
 Boris

Hello,
I am Boris's foster mum, now what can I tell you about Boris. Boris is the most loving dog I have ever met, all he wants is cuddles. Wherever I go in the house he is by my side plodding along with that beautiful face. Boris is fantastic with my Rotti and two Labs. He gets on well with all animals e.g. dogs, cats, cows etc nothing fazes him. Boris is a gentle giant so please don't let his size put you off. All Boris wants is his own family he can love and be a great companion to.
Boris walks very well on and off the lead, once he goes more than two steps in front of you he will stop and check where you are. Boris is great with children and knows all the commands such as sit, stay, lay down, come etc. Boris is a fantastic dog that will make a loving pet for anyone, a single person or a family with or without pets. So, if Boris sounds like the dog for you please consider adopting him as he is a stunner.

23-10-09 UPDATE
Boris is doing really well in his foster home meeting and greeting different people and dogs. However, because we have seen him when he is nervous - resulting in him being a little worried, we would not be able to home him with children.

05-11-09  Rush is 3 years old.  She looks like a greyhound but has collie blood in her. She is a very sweet lady. SAMMY

BEING FOSTERED IN BEDFONT, MIDDLESEX

05--11-09 Sammy is a 5 month old cav. His fontal gap never closed and he has had sort of brief fainting episodes I was told.  We have not seen that yet.  He will need a quiet home without young children to fall over him etc. If there is another dog it will also need to be very quiet. He really has a bit of an unknown future but what lies ahead we want to be very happy.

MERINGUE

02-11-09 Meringue is a 2 year old collie. She is super friendly, and just a lovely little girl. She was at the pound and was due to be put to sleep  today so James picked her up. She is as friendly with people as she could be. but is not sure of the other dogs.  I think she is just afraid at the moment and will ease down.  She is not attacking them, just steering clear. We will do an update once she is more settled.

05-11-09 UPDATE
Poor Meringue had to have five lumps removed when she was spayed. We have sent these away for tests and will update as soon as we get the results. For the time being Meringue has gone home with Vicky who works here for some special attention to make her feel better. Vicky has cats and dogs and so we will also soon update on how Meringue is with Vicky’s gang.

ARTHA

BEING FOSTERED IN AMMANFORD, CARMARTHENSHIRE

13-10-09 Artha is a 1 year old patterdale cross terrier who has been saved from starving on the streets. Artha is a friendly and bright lad who loves people but is a typical terrier. He's better suited to live with female dogs than males but is very good with the girls that he's living with here. This little guy is a bundle of fun and would love to play and run with you all day.

05-11-09 UPDATE

Artha is an exceptionally cute little fellow with a lovely expression and personality. He is friendly, affectionate and playful. He loves to play fetch and mostly comes running back to you to deliver the ball, however sometimes forgets the game and instead just runs back without it for a cuddle! This morning, he walked very well on the lead at my side, though will pull towards distractions such as an interesting scent! He seems to be a very sweet natured little dog.

ORANGINA

BEING FOSTERED IN KINGSWOOD, SURREY

 30-10-09
Orangina is an 8 week old Jack Russell pup, daughter of Orthelia and sister of Oops-a-Daisy. She's a lovely little girl who's owner just didn't want her or her mum.

05-11-09 UPDATE

The picture doesn't show how absolutely tiny this little girl is. Orangina is adorable - we call her dolly as that is what she is.  I have had to cut up a sock to make her a coat. She is living in harmony with my dogs and is gentle with children. Orangina sleeps all night in her crate, whimpering for 2 seconds and then settling until we wake her in the morning. She is very quiet - a very undemanding gorgeous puppy.

FREDDIE

BEING FOSTERED IN SWINDON, WILTSHIRE

01-09-09 Freddie is a passionate 10 month old lab cross. He adores people and being made a fuss of. He was ½ an hour from being put to sleep at the pound when rescued. His history was that he ripped up lino and things at home was demanding and over the top. But this a young and misunderstood fellow who was bored out of his mind and who had the misfortune to live with people lees intelligent than himself so instead of being trained taught and given something to do, he re decorated the home, barked far attention and spun with excitement. Man has a lot to answer for and sadly that so nearly cost Freddie his precious life!!!!!  He will chase cats so a cat free home only please.

10-09-09 UPDATE

Freddie is quite a handful, he's still a very young dog and has a lot of growing up and calming down to do but needs an experienced hand to guide him down the right path. However, he is so dedicated to his loved people that he should pick things up very quickly if taught properly. We don't think that anyone has ever given him any boundaries or rules before and, as he's so brave and really not frightened of a single thing.
Freddie loves other dogs but because he's had no real experience at meeting or socializing with them he has absolutely no manners. He generally means well but his full on approach can annoy other dogs. All this will get better while he's with us as our staff and trusted volunteers know how to control and guide a dog that needs to improve around other animals. He will live quite happily with another dog without any real issue.  With a less experienced handler he might be better off with one female dog but anyone that can control their dogs he's not a big problem.
There aren't many dogs out there with more character than Freddie. He is learning how to behave and it isn't his fault that nobody's shown him this already.

21-09-09 UPDATE

Now this Freddie is one clever and active dog. He is so ready for a job. He has collie brains too. I would love to see an agility enthusiast take him on as he really would thrive learning to do something he really loves. He is very playful with other dogs, but is very stressed in a kennel and will turn circles and look miserable. He will also chew if bored so needs an active home. To sum up what he needs, a busy lively active lifestyle where he will have his brain challenged and his energy drained and a whole load of love to top all that off.

19-10-09 UPDATE

Hmmm, now what can I say about Freddie, has anyone seen or read ‘Marley & Me’??!! He was made for this role!
This cheeky chap has a collie brain that when not worked stimulates itself with acts of naughtiness. He is bold as brass and in desperate need of clear consistent handling. We are currently in the process of reinforcing discipline with a squirty bottle of water as Freddie has no idea what the commands  mean, they are just words to him that he seems to hear on a regular basis!
I am pleased to report though that this lovely little guy when given the correct guidance so wants to please and is trying really hard to understand what we want from him. At 10 months, Freddie is a puppy through and through. There is a distinct lack of respect for people and dogs (purely because he has never been taught how to behave) and although he adores both, his manners need a lot of work.
He is living with my pack of 3 Dobes who are playing a very large part in his training.  He is fantastic in the car, walks well on the lead and runs free with the long line trailing. His recall is fantastic, better than my lot in fact! We have been to busy parks and are in the process of teaching him about saying hello to other people and dogs in a calmer manner as Freddie is sooooo friendly that he just wants to bowl over to anyone and everyone to leap on them and introduce himself.  He is attending obedience classes, which he loves because he gets to use his brain, and comes out with me to agility shows where he can meet and play with lots of other dogs. He has already learnt so much in the week he has been with other, he will recall, sit, down, go to his bed when we are eating and generally understand that a click of the fingers or "Oi" is there to correct unwanted behaviour.
Freddie has met and is wonderful with children but due to his mouthing and desire to play with their toys, he would be best homed with older dog savvy children who know how to correct him properly.
The special lad is one of those dogs in a million, he truly doesn't have a bad bone in his body and is just a confused teenager. He will need an ACTIVE home where someone can really dedicate their time to training him and in return he will be the most loving, clever, rewarding little guy. I feel Freddie should be homed with at least one other playful yet patient dog as he loves their company and snuggling up to them in an evening.
He loves going out with the bike, running and will I'm sure be fantastic at obedience or agility. He desperately craves love and attention, from day one he has been my absolute shadow and at the moment he is only ever really relaxed when lying at your feet sleeping after some intense physical and mental exercise. He is giving us his absolute everything and that is all he asks for in return from his new family. If you feel you can fulfil his needs please come and meet him, he has so much character, you won't be able to resist.

05-11-09 UPDATE

Well I have to give this little guy 10 out of 10 for effort! He can jump through our serving hatch and squeeze past pretty much any blockade in the way to get into the kitchen to investigate the worktops. He’s also worked out that although we’ve turned the bookcase round to stop him borrowing the books, he can, with determination prise open the wooden backing to get to them anyway! The crate also has cable ties on all the corners now as he is able to squeeze himself out of that too!
Now although all of the above may make you think, what a naughty pup, I prefer to look a little deeper and just be seriously impressed with how clever he is. He tries so hard to be good but there are bound to be some slip-ups. He's not what I would class as a destructive dog.  He hasn’t touched any of the sofas, floor, curtains, etc. He is just struggling to understand the difference between his toys and a candle, ornament or book.
We are persevering with crate training but he is not happy in it. He only spends very short periods of time in it at the moment. I would say Freddie does have some anxiety issues so we’re gradually increasing the time he is left.
On the plus side, he is one quick learner and will eventually grow out of these traits. He is completely house trained, sleeps soundly all night (out of the crate), responds well to commands. He loves his toys and would play all day long if he could; he’s still learning to share with the other dogs but has enough respect for us now that he’ll drop things on command.
Freddie is a highly excitable chap.  We are working really hard on calm introductions. He is introduced to new dogs on the long line and corrected.  Once he understands that this is not acceptable he’s usually more than happy to go off and play with them. This is something that will need to be worked on continuously with him. He would love a home with at least one other dog though as he just looooves to play.  He and our very dominant bitch play all day long, he can be very rough and she is teaching him that grabbing ears and pulling skin is not acceptable by doing the same back, to which he’ll yelpand then carry on playing but a little more gently.
Freddie is progressing well in obedience and had his first taste of agility last week, not surprisingly he loved it! Being in a class with 7 other ‘wired’ agility dogs was a little full-on to say the least but once he had something to concentrate on, he was far more interested in working for his toy. He has absolutely no fear and was flying through curved tunnels and down a line of jumps after just one session, definitely something he’d excel in. If you are after a highly intelligent, active dog then Freddie is your man.
Most of what I have written may seem rather negative but this is a dog who has never been taught right from wrong, not socialised and been deprived of attention and love. It is therefore so important that whoever adopts him knows exactly what they are taking on and are able to commit to him 100%. If you can provide him with what he needs, you won’t find a dog that will love you more in return.

MAX

BEING FOSTERED IN FLEET, HAMPSHIRE

26-10-09 Max is a 5 yr old  cross breed boy who came in with his brother (who has now been rehomed). He is about the size of a tall cocker and is a little bag of fun! A lady adopted them from somebody who was emigrating, now she is unable to keep them. She called the largest animal welfare group who stated that due to a skin complaint (a touch of mange that was already being treated by this ladies vet) that they would be putting them to sleep. She was devastated by this news and called us.  We are treating Max's skin and he is here waiting patiently for his forever home to come along. He has lived with kids, cats and rabbits, and although are good with the cats indoors did chase them a little outside, but it was described as a two way game with the cat and he was scarred of the two kittens! He is housetrained and ready to go.

05-11-09 UPDATE

Although I've only had Max for a couple of days, I can honestly say that he's an absolutely gorgeous little chap. He is such a well balanced, friendly, confident and calm lad. He has joined my clan so easily and is an absolute delight. The only issue that needs to be worked on is that he pulls like a train on the lead. He is however desperate to be off running and playing with my lot but it's too soon for him to be let off just yet. He loves playing chase in the garden.  He's very quick and very very agile! He is excellent in the car, friendly to everyone (canine, feline or human), eats well, sleeps all night, is completely non destructive when left. He's also a complete cuddle monster and will snuggle up at every opportunity. He's a little star and I can't recommend him highly enough. In the photo he's the one on the sofa - I keep having to look twice as he's so similar to one of mine. In my opinion he's certainly confident enough to be an only dog but as he's always lived with another I think he would prefer to live with a friend or two. Please fill in the form and apply for this little cracker and he will be your best friend for life.

FELICIA

BEING FOSTERED IN DUNDRY, BRISTOL

13-10-09 Felicia is a 3 year old Lurcher.  She is a happy go lucky girl who's ready to put a smile on everyone's face. Felicia is flawless around other dogs and would be an ideal companion for any dog that needs company or a playmate. Felicia has had her fair share of bad luck and has only half a tail. We cannot guess what ordeal she had to endure or accident befell her but either way this lovely lady has forgiven people and loves everybody!

26-10-09 UPDATE

Felicia is soooooooooooo sweet. She loves to cuddle and play, and will be the best dog ever for somebody. We believe that she may be pregnant and will be getting her scanned (although she is starting to bag up) If she is pregnant she wont be available for re homing until once the pups are weaned. She is a true sweet heart!

05-11-09 UPDATE

Felicia gave birth to 7 puppies in the early hours of yesterday morning.  Both she and they are all doing really well.

JUNIOR

BEING FOSTERED IN AMMANFORD, CARMARTHENSHIRE

03-11-09 Junior is a very sweet but very energetic terrier mix. He loves the company of other dogs. He needs far more exercise than he has been given and has had no training. He is a great little chap that if his owner had bothered to train would have not found himself homeless.  It's heart breaking that dogs love us humans despite how they are let down.

SASHA

15-10-09 Sasha has been a breeding bitch all her life and is 5 years old. She does walk on the lead a little, but really needs to learn about life. She will need another forward going dog to live with. She is very sweet and very pretty.  Please only apply for her if you already have a resident dog or dogs living in the home.

03-11-09 UPDATE

What a love bug! All this girl wants is cuddles – she is super affectionate and would make someone a wonderful companion. She is calm, gentle and walks perfectly on the lead.

This dog is at the main rescue centre in Llanelli, Carmarthenshire.

LADY

16-10-09 Lady is a very sweet 6 year old ex breeding lab who is no longer needed.  She is very sweet but very uneducated and doesn't really know how to walk on a lead.  She only understands life living with other dogs so a home with at least one other resident dog is essential for this girl.

Lady  is a fabulous fun-loving and affectionate girle who absolutely adores toys! She is a natural retriever and will fetch any toy you throw for her. She also loves her cuddles and will make someone a wonderful companion. She can waver around a little on the lead but just needs a bit more practise walking in a straight line! She walks at a nice steady pace, without pulling.

TAYTO

03-11-09 Tayto is an 18 month old Lab cross.  He is a really happy and friendly boy who has been returned because he will chase cats. Tayto is a brilliant boy with no malice but, at the moment, few manners! He's a very bright lad though and since being here he has learnt to follow a tasty food lure into a sitting position and to hold this position just long enough for us to get a nice photograph, showing what a gorgeous boy he is! Tayto would love to continue with his training and to learn
a verbal cue to sit and other positions also! He is a very sweet boy and loves his cuddles and really deserves a cat free and ACTIVE home to call his own.

OZZY

03-11-11-09 Sadly Ozzy our 1 year old black lab boy has been returned to us.  Ozzy is a lovely boy and loves his trusted people but takes time to learn that trust.  He needs an adult only home without cats with owners who are prepared to continue the work we are doing with him here.  Ozzy has bags of energy and he will need PLENTY of exercise to ensure that he is happy. He VERY bouncy and full-on, if he was homed with another dog they would have to tolerate this from him! Ozzy is strong on the lead and so will need to learn to walk nicely but he is motivated and attentive and therefore should be able to learn.

ICE

01-10-09 Ice is an 18 month old huskamute who has lived as a stud dog and is now looking for a pet home. Ice is very friendly and loves people and other dogs. He has little or no experience of pet life though and has lived his whole life on the farm where he was possibly even born. He will need time to settle to a new life and would value another dog in the home to learn from. As a stud dog he will have only met other dogs for one reason and so at the moment he's still a bit frisky, this will start to calm down after we castrate him but he might better be suited to live with a large female dog than any other combination.

26-10-09 UPDATE

Ice is a super sweet boy, he loves to cuddle, but also loves to play, and can be excitable. He would make a fantastic jogging partner and keeps a steady pace along side of you. He really should have found his forever home by now.

03-11-09 UPDATE
Ice may be large but is a big teddy bear! Don’t be put off by his size – he walks well on the lead, without pulling, whatever speed you choose to go, though jogging suits him best. He is friendly and affectionate with people and  likes to place his paws on your shoulders and lick your face in greeting, however isn’t pushy and will happily receive affection with all four paws on the ground. Ice enjoys the company of other dogs but may be OK to go to a home by himself, so long as his owners are home most of the day to keep him company and provide him with the right guidance.

BRANDY

BEING FOSTERED IN BLABY, LEICESTERSHIRE

15-09-09 This is dear sweet gentle Brandy. She has had to be returned to us as her Mum is not well and is having to leave her for long times whilst having treatment. Brandy is a very gentle, sweet dog and very good with children and most cats!  Her house training needs some work but it's OK. She is good with dogs and was only given up as circumstances ruled this. The previous owner was VERY sad to say goodbye, so we hope to find her a home or foster home quickly. She will be needing an existing canine for company.

09-10-09 UPDATE

Brandy has now been here nearly three weeks and I am amazed how quickly Brandy has settled in to our routine. She gets on very well with all five of my bitches. She wont stand any nonsense from Dolly the puppy and is not afraid to stand up for herself but she does it in a very nice way. She is very good with my four cats and has made no attempt to chase any of them. We have met children whilst out on walks and she has been friendly and calm with them as well. She loves people especially if they have something nice in their pocket! Her house training has come on really well. I have crated her at night which she is fine with. She is now left out of the crate during the day if I have to go out and she has not had any accidents since the first couple of days she came here. She is very sweet natured and affectionate. Her recall is very good. She seems to get on well with dogs and bitches. She will happily get in the car and travels well in the car crate with my other dogs. Brandy is a really lovely girl and deserves a new forever home of her own. Please consider her if you are looking for a friendly affectionate laid back little girl.

03-11-09 UPDATE
What can i say about this girl, well to start with she is just the sweetest dog you have ever met.  She will put her paws up on your knee and look into your eyes forever...as you can tell I have fallen head over heals in love with her. After many hours deliberation with my family we have decided that we want to keep fostering and so Brandy is still looking for her forever home.
I do not know why she is still waiting, she has now been let down twice by potential adopters who have decided she is not right without even meeting her! She is the ideal dog for just about any situation. We have had no problems with toileting apart from scenting when she first goes somewhere new.  She is laid back at home and active out on her walks. She has good recall and loves to meet just everyone, human and canine alike. She is happy to go out in the car and is brilliant with my 2 year old son, who can be at times very enthusiastic with the dogs.
Brandy is still a little overweight, but we have fitted in an extra walk for her and continue her diet, which she is not so keen on. We are introducing her to a ball, which she has just started to show a little interest in, so we shall see.\
Brandy is a credit to her previous owner and fosterer as she is not like most ex breeding dogs and could be homed on her own as long as someone was with her during the day, she is however currently living with my 2 bitches and 1 dog and is very content. Please consider Brandy, she is just wonderful!

MARTHA

BEING FOSTERED IN ALDERSHOT, HAMPSHIRE

11-08-09 Martha is a 2 year old Beagle x Terrier She has one eye as she had one removed due to an accident. She gets on well with other dogs and is a friendly little girl.

24-08-09 UPDATE

Little Martha is a real gem, so affectionate and happy. She's living with Arturo and Caramel and gets on pretty well with both. She would be equally
happy as an only dog though and actually might be better on her own as she can get a little grumpy from time to time. She loves everybody that she
meets and will make friends with anybody.  She a real people's dog and will make a very faithful friend.

13-09-09 UPDATE

Please do not be put of that Martha is missing an eye. This lovely friendly little dog went of walking with a young family yesterday and seemed to love the kids. She gets on well with other dogs and is a very sweet happy but sadly one eyed dog.

14-10-09 UPDATE
Martha has been moved to a new foster home.  Unfortunately she will chase cats and so needs a cat free home.  At the centre she has been kenelled with all different kinds of dogs including ex breeding dogs and has been fine but if a dog is "in her face" she will let it know she doesn't like it. Martha just loves people and would be perfect as an only dog or with a calm and placid dog.  Please don't just pass her by - give this girl a chance.

03-11-09 UPDATE

We have had Martha just over a week now and although it took her a couple of days, she has settled in nicely. She loves her cuddles and likes nothing more than squeezing on the sofa with us and our other jrt. I have to re-iterate that she must go to a cat / small furry free home. Martha gets on well with most dogs. She has had a grumble at some dogs we have meet on walks but nothing a firm 'no' hasn't resolved. She seems to be crate trained and will quite happily go in it at bedtime, with a tasty treat of course. Martha does love her food and will devour it rather quickly. This has caused a little upset as she then tries to eat the other dogs food. We are working on this and I think this may of come from being a stray. Not knowing when her next meal will be. Martha is almost house trained, having had a couple of accidents but she is getting better at telling us when she needs to go out. Martha really will make a super family dog. She loves children and could quite happily go as an only dog. Please don't over look her, she's beautiful.

STORM

BEING FOSTERED IN LEICESTER

28-10-09 Storm is a gorgeous 2 year old huskamute, who is a credit to her breed. She has come here as my foster dog as her  owners said she was very nervous and did not seem to be happy
.  She has only been with me for a day so I'm still getting to know her myself! She is now with 3 other dogs and 2 cats, she isn't fazed by any of them. You'll see on the photo's she has made a new best friend in my 2 year old female Akita. She is a little wary at the minute, having just moved in this is understandable. I'll post more pictures and more about her soon.

PLEASE NOTE: We nearly always home ex-breeding dogs where there is ALREADY A RESIDENT DOG living in the house. 03-11-09 UPDATE

Storm has been with me for a week now, and boy what a difference a week makes. She is still a bit worried about strange noises but surprisingly not the hoover, the hairdryer and she doesn't mind you sweeping or mopping around her!! I am greeted every morning with a big smile and that huge tail wagging, she will occasionally talk to me too. She plays with her toys and doesn't get in the least possessive over them, my boy can just go and take it from her mouth and she just lets him; what a lady. It takes her a little while to trust people but what a reward when she does. This girl is gorgeous and will make a lovely pet; she just needs a lot of love, time and patience

MOPTOP

BEING FOSTERED IN MIDDLESEX

15-10-09 Mop Top is the cutest cocker ever. She is quite unsure but was as good as gold in the bath and being groomed. She is 4 1/2 years old, and has been a breeding bitch all her life, but she is no longer needed due to the fact she has a cataract in one eye. She is going to need a very special home to live in with another forward going dog to help her along her way so please only apply if you already have another dog or dogs living in the home.

PLEASE NOTE: We nearly always home ex-breeding dogs where there is ALREADY A RESIDENT DOG living in the house. 22-10-09 UPDATE
The vet has now seen Mop Top and very sadly she has extremely limited vision.  We are waiting for her to see a specialist to see if anything can be done to restore her sight.

03-11-09 UPDATE

Mop Top has now been with me for 2 weeks and has settled in well. She likes her food and loves a walk. She is a bit disorientated due to her lack of sight but this doesn't seem to bother her.  She will be seeing a specialist soon to see if anything can be done.   She loves a cuddle and is always wagging her tail. She is very friendly to my two Schnauzers and is very clean around the house. There have been no 'accidents' which is very surprising due to her background. She would make a wonderful pet to somebody willing to give her a bit of time and patience so that she may gain her confidence even more. Please consider this beautiful little Cocker Spaniel who is just waiting for her forever home.

PAMPER

Please click the image and have a look at Pamper's slide show.

PAMPER'S STORY

30-07-09 Pamper is a 6 year old ex breeding Mini Schnauzer who wasn’t wanted as she had to have a c-section to have pups. She is a quiet and bewildered little lady at the moment and will need a home with another gentle, kind dog to help her.

04-08-09 UPDATE

We discovered the reason for Pamper’s bewilderment - she has Cataracts.  We cannot possibly deny Pamper the same success and joy to life that Imagine (our other Schnauzer) is experiencing - so we have to find another £3,500 to give her the opportunity.

20-08-09 UPDATE

The Ophthalmologist feels it is definitely worth trying to remove the Cataracts even though her sight may not be left perfect (as it would have if they’d been removed earlier).

11-10-09: Although the Vet didn’t manage to fit artificial lenses, he did manage to remove the Cataracts from both eyes improving her sight immensely – what a difference already!!!  She now races around the room and is often caught watching TV – it is such a wonderful gift to give – so a huge THANK YOU everyone for making it possible.  Pamper is just a joy to have around! She is so friendly and has settled in very well with the other dogs.  She is totally clean in the house, is quiet at night and is just the perfect little companion!  She’s such a lovely dog and showed such bravery. All she needs now is a forever home!!

03-11-09 UPDATE
Pamper has been back to see her consultant and he is very pleased with her progress. One of her eyes is still a little sore, so needs more frequent eye drops – and she will need another check in 1 month. It should be fine for her to go to her new home, but preferably within travelling distance of Abingdon in Oxfordshre so she can go back to her vet for check ups. She is the nicest little schnauzer I have ever met – and will enhance anybodies life! She is a little shy until she gets to know you, and a little upset by load noises – so a home without children would be best for her. She loves the other little dogs, and makes them all play with her. Her recall is fantastic as she just loves to be petted, so just can’t get to you quick enough. She is totally clean in the house, good with the cats – she is just the perfect little house guest.

EMMA

BEING FOSTERED IN BERKSHIRE

29-05-09 Emma is a special girl needing a special home – She’s a 3½ year old Mini Schnauzer ex breeding bitch. She had only come in a few weeks ago but sadly has been returned because her adopter's vet found she had a low grade heart murmur.  Emma is very scared and will need time and help to adapt. She will also need a home with another small gentle and kind dog to be her friend and a dedicated owner who has the time and patience for her to blossom.

17-07-09 UPDATE

It is very evident that Emma has trust issues and will need time to relax and settle.  She’ll need a quiet, calm household where another small confident dog will be her friend.  At this stage, she won’t cope with children or big dogs so an adult home without large dogs is needed.  She is very noise reactive and she’s incredibly nervous around sudden movements.  I’m sure with time all of these issues will improve.

11-08-09 UPDATE

After these past months Emma is showing signs of slowly improving all the time – it’s such a joy to see this scared little dog finally beginning to enjoy life!  However, she is still often scared of people and if approached directly she is spooked easily.

08-10-09 UPDATE

Emma has overcome yet more hurdles; she’s 100% housetrained, good as gold with other small dogs and cats, walks well on the lead and also fine to be left on her own (with other dogs) for reasonable periods.

29-10-09 UPDATE

Hi Emma here
Well, I’ve been coming along very well. My foster mummy has been doing a lot of work with me (something called Tellington TTouch), which involves touching me in a certain way – firstly with a feather on a stick – but now I’m a bit braver, she does it with her hand and I always get a yummy treat when she’s finished! It has taught me that she’s not going to hurt me, so I relax more when people come towards me – although I am still quite scared.
I have been going to the groomer for the last couple of weeks as my hair has got VERY out of control. I have been going and just sitting on the table and letting the groomer gently touch me. She then showed me the clippers, first turned off and then turned on. I didn’t like it much, but I realized it wasn’t that bad, so just sat quietly while this was going on. Then yesterday I was taken again to the groomer and she started shaving my hair off! Well – this was a bit of a shock, but my foster mummy was with me and gently held me and talked to me so I wasn’t too frightened. It was all over in less than an hour – and now I look GORGEOUS!
I love other little dogs, but get very scared of big dogs – so will need a home with another confident small dog for me to make friends with. I do walk very nicely on the lead now, but would prefer to only walk in private areas as I often get very scared if I see other people or scary things around.  All I’m waiting for is a special forever home as I’m such a special girl!

03-11-09 UPDATE
Helping Emma is going to be a long and slow process and even then there is no guarantee she will ever completely overcome all her fears. She’s going to need a forever home where she is accepted for what she is and loved for the way she is – but she’s worth it!

HETTY

BEING FOSTERED IN READING

16-10-09 Hetty is a 6 year old Schnauzer who has come to us from a breeding kennels. She is very nervous at the moment, this is probably the first time she's left what was her home and everything in the world is new and worrying.  Hetty will learn about people and about living as a loved pet very quickly but will need the help of another dog.

03-11-09 UPDATE
Hetty has been with me for just over a week now, and she is making slow but steady progress. Initially not too impressed by the other dogs, she is now interacting with them and is now even playing madly with little Pamper! No problem with the cats. She is very shy and frightened, and will not allow me to approach her without running away. I can fuss her when she is in her pen, and she is getting better with this and is beginning to be less afraid. She has started to learn lead walking but still has a way to go. It is early days yet, but she is gradually settling in and learning to trust humans again.

IMAGINE

BEING FOSTERED IN BERKSHIRE

04-07-09 Imagine is a 5 year old Miniature Schnauzer who was no longer needed by her breeder. She was initially very nervous of people, being handled and had problems with her eyesight but this was operated on in the hope of restoring her sight.  Please read Imagine’s journey of hope and bravery.

18-06-09 Update

02-07-09: Brave Imagine began her pre-surgery eye drops regime and was booked in for her surgery in a couple of days thanks to the fantastic generosity of Friends and supporters of Many Tears.

11-07-09 UPDATE
I collected Imagine after her week in hospital.  The cataract in her right eye was removed and a prosthetic lens inserted, but unfortunately the cataract in her left eye was so bad it was only possible to remove it and a lens could not be inserted.  This means she has reasonable sight in the left eye, and very good sight in the right eye!  Fantastic!!

23-07-09 UPDATE
The Ophthalmologist was delighted with Imagine’s progress.  It is absolutely wonderful to see what a different dog Imagine is, now that she has been given the precious gift of sight. She loves to run and play with my own dogs and is even starting to notice toys and to share in chasing after them! From a rather solemn little soul, she is now just full of joy and energy. She is fascinated by the return of the visual world: it was just amazing to see her sit and watch the flight of a butterfly with doggie wonderment on her sweet little face!

22-08-09 UPDATE
Imagine continues with her daily eye drops as one of the Haptics (tiny devices that secure the lens) had moved so underwent corrective surgery.  Although this wasn’t causing her a problem, it would have eventually caused permanent adhesions.

11-10-09 UPDATE
Imagine’s Haptic had moved again, so this time the surgeon rotated the prosthetic lens in the hope of giving a greater structural integrity.  She will need to re-visit the Vets for a check up in a month.   At this stage, any immediate potential adopter needs to be living in the Berkshire or Oxfordshire area (so her check up appointment may be met) until she can be signed off at the Vets.

03-11-09  UPDATE.
Imagine has been checked by the Ophthalmologist, and he is pleased to say that unless any complications occur, she will not need to be seen again for three months, although she must stay on eye drops twice daily.

Imagine is a real darling who’s had such a heart warming journey!  She arrived very fearful of people, situations and of life in general but is blossoming and progressing beautifully!  She’ll certainly need to live with another confident, gentle, small dog (she likes Schnauzers best, and is fearful of larger dogs) and her new owner will need to be patient and understanding.  All relationships in life need work and I do think this little dog is a real case of "nothing worth having ever comes easy" because although she’ll certainly need a specially caring home, she’ll be such a rewarding member of the family once she has fitted in and stolen everyone's hearts. She is good at that!!

ANASTASIA

BEING FOSTERED IN READING, BERKSHIRE

05-10-09 Anastasia is a 9 - 10 year old ex breeding Mini Schnauzer. This sweet girl was happy to be bathed groomed and made a fuss of but she is nervous and will need a special loving home with another dog to help her build her confidence.  Please only apply for Anastasia if you have a kind and gentle dog to help her learn about home living.

23-10--09 UPDATE
Anastasia arrived completely shutdown and un-reactive to things around her – she had no idea that a new life was starting.  So over the past week, my dogs have been teaching her what life is all about! She’s turning into a very sweet little dog although still very wary of people at the moment.  She has learnt to run and play in the garden and has even started to take treats from my hand – her favourite being pieces of chicken! She is happy to sit on my lap for a cuddle and likes to be chatted to (her tail will wag furiously!!).  She is perfectly clean and well mannered in the house and even likes to move dog blankets out of the beds to re-model them into nests of her own design! She is good in the car and is learning to walk on the lead. Bless her, she’s a real little star and has progressed so much already. Anna loves other dogs and will certainly need a home with a friendly, gentle dog. At this stage, I would say she would be too nervous to live with children and, of course, still has a lot to learn about our world, but thankfully she does seem to have adjusted very quickly and is just a picture of joy!

03-11-09 UPDATE
Anastasia is continuing to progress, although she is still very wary of people.  She will need time and patience.  She is great with the other dogs, and has been a real help with my other foster dog Hope.  They are firm friends, and Anna has helped Hope to fit in.  Anna is a dear little dog, but does not value human contact much, although this is hardly surprising as she will have spent years in a non-pet environment.

MELVIN

BEING FOSTERED IN SWINDON, WILTSHIRE

02-11-09 Melvin is a 5 year old westie male. He has been a stud dog all his life so has never lived in a home. He is gentle and very patient and sweet and good with other dogs. He will need an existing dog to help him learn about a domestic life. He will be well worth the effort so if you have another dog or dogs living in the home and can offer Melvin a wonderful forever home please apply.

MEDLEY

 BEING FOSTERED IN WISTOW, CAMBRIDGESHIRE

02-11-09 Medley is a 5 year old ex breeding cocker bitch. She is very quiet and has no idea about home life. She does not know how to walk on a lead and has never been away from where she was a breeding bitch. She will take time to adapt and will need a dog to help her learn. She has a wonderful gentle disposition and will make someone very proud and happy to have her as their companion but please only apply if you already have a resident dog or dogs living in the home.

SEREN

11-08-09 Seren is a super sensitive 2 year old Rotty.  She needs an experienced handler as she was not properly socialised as a pup and does have issues meeting small dogs if not under proper control. This is definitely controllable, but she needs a conscientious owner who understands rotties.  Seren needs a gentle doggy friend as she is easily spooked and scared by noisy dogs. She really is a sensitive worried lady at the moment - she is just a dog just waiting to be loved and understood.

 08-10-09 UPDATE

Seren is a sweet dog, who can be initially nervous, but as you can see from the pictures soon comes out of her shell with the right approach. She is said to not like little dogs although we have never had a problem as we are assertive with her and she totally respects that as that is what she craves...... a leader.
Rottys have had a really bad wrap recently, all due to owners bringing them up wrong or being irresponsible. They are fantastic dogs given the right education, just like any other dog! Don't miss out a great dog due to prejudice.

02-10-09  UPDATE
I met Seren for the first time this morning and although she initially barked, she allowed me to walk straight up to her and put a lead on, without shying away at all. She followed me through every doorway, without barging, and walked very well on her walk, adjusting her position quickly in response to a discrete verbal “steady” or upward tweak on the lead. She is very attentive to her handler and smart. This morning, we were practising sit-stays, downs and hand targeting and Seren was great. She is a gorgeous girl so if you love Rotties and you are an experienced and confident handler, please consider Seren.

CYAN

BEING FOSTERED IN GRAVESEND, KENT

07-10-09 Poor Cyan is a 5 year old Jack Russell male who has come from a farm. Cyan is a very nervous lad who has been a bit shaken up by his ordeal today and will need a lot of TLC to reassure him that people can be trusted and, eventually, loved. Cyan is good with other dogs but has probably more experience of females than males, although he seems pretty good with both at the moment. Cyan has never lived as a pet dog and will need another dog to show him the way and help him learn about house training etc.  Please only apply for Cyan if you already have a dog.

15-10-09 UPDATE
I took Cyan for a walk on a lead and set about continuing his lead training as he has probably never seen a lead before coming to Many Tears. Initially, any tension in the lead really worried him and he would spin around and bite at it, in an attempt to break free. When he began to understand that the lead was not there to hurt him, he started to relax more and was able to turn his attention to taking in all the interesting scents; nevertheless, he was still quite unsure. Cyan needs to learn to trust people and this will require time and patience until he finds his confidence. He seems very relaxed around others of his own kind and enjoys spending time with a nice group of smallish dogs in our yard. He will need to go to a home where there is another calm confident dog to help him along. Cyan is really cute so if you are patient and kind, share your home with a dog already and want to give another little dog a change to be happy in a loving home, please apply.

26-10 -09 UPDATE

Cyan has had his first taste of inside life today and has been helping with all our office work. He started out by answering the phone, then he did a little eating of James' lunch (well quavers!) He then moved on to chatting on the head set and doing the computer work!
Cyan e is a truly loving, but scared boy. He really hasn't had anything nice ever and so desperately wants somebody to call his own. He is maybe a bit older than we first told, although it is so hard to tell when they have been given a bad diet. Sadly that may put some people off, but to me that just makes me sadder that he has had a longer life of nothing. He is a true gent and loves the company of other dogs, and they have really helped him to come out of his shell. He hasn't experienced younger kids, so we won't be homing him with tiny tots, but feel he would be happy with teenage quieter kids.  He's also sensible enough to be scared of cats so we would happy to home with dog savvy cats. If you are looking for a quiet, sweet dog to have a cuddle on your lap, sit and help you do your computer work then Cyan is your man.

02-10-09  UPDATE
I don't usually update this quickly, but in the 2 days Cyan has been with me he has shown himself to be such a star dog I wanted to let everyone know. He is a very easy, quiet dog, for whom most noises in a house are clearly new to him and he also is new to being treated kindly. He wants to please, is careful but not really scared and is learning hourly that he doesn't need to worry about the TV, pinger on the microwave and how to take a treat out of my hand. He is 75% house trained already, very respectful of my three little dogs and just wants to spend his time by my side - he really does just want to have his own person to snuggle up to and not move.
He sleeps through the night without a sound, is non destructive, eats any dog food on offer, has already been left for short periods without incident and is the easiest foster dog I have had. He has clearly had a very rough time in his life so far - it's joy to be able to give him a better life.  Anyone adopting him will get a devoted companion whose idea of heaven is lying by your side with his head on your lap.

SOONER

kBEING FOSTERED IN WARMINSTER, WILTSHIRE

Lurcher-savvy owners, plenty of activity, a comfortable bed, and another playful dog, or even a whole pack of them, would suit Sooner perfectly. If you meet him you're sure to fall for him. He's irresistible!!

JIFFY

BEING FOSTERED IN SOUTHAMPTON, HAMPSHIRE

02-09-09 It's really hard to let you see what I feel as I meet these very special dogs. This is Jiffy - he is a 2 year old male collie. He is full of fear and apprehension, full of worry and despair. I don't think he believes anything good lies in the future. He had been thrown away and left to starve.  He started to hang around farm stock (I am sure because he was starving) so a farmer took him to the pound where an angel rescued him and until we could pick him up.  To think this fellow would have died is just terrible.

02-10-09 UPDATE

Well what a difference a month makes! Jiffy has grown not only in weight but in confidence and personality. He was in a pretty bad state when I first got him but a course of antibiotics, nutritious food, a warm bed and lots of love has enabled him to turn the corner.
Jiffy is an intelligent dog who adores his walks.  He is fine on the lead and fantastic off it. He is on instant recall by name and whistle, he loves playing and gets on well with all dogs encountered,he does still get worried by aggressive or dominant male dogs and would be best homed with a female.  He loves playing with toys and adores Branston and Polo who have really helped me to bring him out of himself.
Jiffy OOZES love and affection and loves cuddles, he does sleep on my bed with the other dogs.
All food aggression has gone, he waits patiently and does not hassle the other dogs while they are eating. The nipping has also stopped, he is so easy to train - it only took a few days. Jiffy has turned into a fabulous dog and will do anything for praise, he loves to be loved.
Jiffy has no problem traveling in cars or being around horses, cattle or cats. He is fascinated with guinea pigs and would sit for hours watching them if he was allowed to. He also likes watching TV especially if it’s about animals!

With patience, time and love – Jiffy is the easiest dog to train and love.  He needs assertive collie savvy owners who will exercise his mind as well as his body. If you’re prepared to put in the time you won't be disappointed by the outcome.

23-10-09 UPDATE

Jiffy has been with me seven weeks now and I am amazed that he has continually been passed by, not only is he a handsome and intelligent boy, he is the most loyal and loving boy you could wish to meet. The only issue Jiffy has is that he gets scared by aggressive or dominant male dogs. His training and socialization is going well and he adores his walks.  He runs over the forest with a big grin on his face and his recall is A1. He is a large dog and does needs a lot of physical and mental exercise and would benefit from someone being at home most of the day. He can be left but only for reasonable periods of time. He does need to be homed with other female dogs and the new owner will need to continue his training and socialization.
Jiffy is just a fantastic dog who will add so much to a home, he deserves a forever home, please don't pass him by.

02-11-09 UPDATE
Over the past weeks Jiffy’s fosterer as helped him immensely to overcome his problems both mentally and physically as well as introducing him to the basics of home living, simple training commands and socialization.  He is now ready and waiting for that special forever home and if you can offer him the active lifestyle he needs we would love to hear from you

OLLIE

BEING FOSTERED IN GUILDFORD, SURREY

17-03-09 Ollie is a 9 month old collie who time was up at the pound. He is scared of men but will work on this. He is good with other dogs.

09-10-09 UPDATE

Ollie has come on so very far! He is off lead every day, runs and plays with huge numbers of dogs of all shapes, sizes and both genders. He can happily greet male and female visitors, has met and laid down next to horses and has even been a stooge dog for my boss (she is a canine behaviourist) and been over to the local greyhound rescue to help teach them that other dogs are not dinner! He is so very affectionate and sensitive.
We take Ollie to naughty dog agility (no airs and graces, just fun) and he just loves it!!  He has learned to cock his leg(!) and is maturing into such a handsome dog. He can be handled, brushed and has been to the vet with no problem.
Unfortunately, Ollie cannot get over wanting to attack/chase cars, despite walking on the roads every day for at least an hour.  He also shows his random dislike for some people. He is not biting (I want to make that clear) but he will charge and bark offensively/defensively for no apparent reason. It's such an unpredictable behaviour and we are worried if somebody reacts badly how Ollie would react back. We have tried so hard to identify a pattern and if there is one, it is only apparent to him. He walks to school and back, 2 miles each way twice a day and ignores everyone.  We often go out on group walks and on the lead he will walk with strangers as well as familiar people.  Off lead he is different - his recall is not bad at all unless he takes a dislike to someone then his recall is forgotten and he dances around barking.
Ollie seemed to be scared in the dark. He will growl if you tread on his toes and will growl sometimes when we/the other dogs move past him when he is settled but this is another inconsistent and random behaviour. He responds well to firm but gentle discipline but doesn't appear to maintain the lesson and repeats the behaviours at random times.

WHAT OLLIE NEEDS:
At just 1 year old this beautiful boy needs a special someone, a home away from the roads of a town, at least one other dog to live with (maybe not a pack), access to large open spaces, someone with lots of time, patience and truck loads of tolerance. The love that this dog gives is just vast but he has a super sensitive nature and highly strung personality. A real Collie person would understand. He is not a cute family pet dog.  Ollie would do very well with a job/agility or someone who walks for a living! He needs to bond and he is so willing to please.

25-10-09 UPDATE BY PEOPLE WHO HAVE MET OLLIE
We met Ollie when we had our house check with Keri and we cant believe he hasn’t found a new home yet!! He’s a lovely dog and after reading about his troubles it seems that he has really got over the worst of it. He was a happy and friendly chap and didn’t bark when he came to our house, he wanted to say hello and bounded around in our garden as happy as larry!!! Speaking to his fosterer we think he would be ideal for someone with a bit of space as he seems to love to play and run around, he loved the attention he got when he came round and wasn’t any trouble at all. We really hope he finds the forever home he so desperately deserves, he would make anyone a really happy dog owner!

02-11-09 UPDATE - Calling all Collie lovers!!!

Back in March Ollie was a 9 month old Collie who was rescued on his last day at the pound.  Over many months, his fosterers have worked with him endlessly to conquer his extreme fears which included strangers (particularly men), cars, washing machines and basically life in general.  They have spent time clicker training him with great success and although he has come such a long way, Ollie still has a couple of issues that need the help of a dedicated and experienced owner/family who will have faith and not give up on him.

HOPEFUL

BEING FOSTERED IN READING

16-10-09 Hopeful is a 6 year old Schnauzer who's breeders no longer need her to breed from. Hopeful is a nervous girl who hasn't met many people and been many places. She has a lot to learn about the world and why she shouldn't fear it and will need another dog to show her the way so please only apply for her if you already have a resident dog or dogs.

01-11-09 UPDATE
Hopeful has been with me for a week now, and for this poor darling, progress has been slow.  My household includes 5 of my own dogs and other foster dogs.  Usually any new foster dog fits right into the group, and then just has to learn about humans and the world in general, but Hopeful did not seem to know how to relate to my “pack” for the first few days, and kind of lurked on the perimeter, apparently unsure how to proceed, and just looked so sad.  But gradually she has improved, and she has become great friends with one of my other Many Tears foster Schnauzers, Anastasia.  They will cuddle up together in the same bed when snoozing and Anastasia has been teaching her new friend about treats and snacks and that it is OK to run and play in the garden with the other dogs.  Hopeful has started to come out of her shell thanks to her little Schnauzer friend and it is sweet to see, so although  she remains rather withdrawn, there is noticeable progress, albeit slow But she will get there!  It's early days yet.

BINGO

BEING FOSTERED IN DUNDRY, BRISTOL

11-10-09 Bingo is a 3 year old terrier cross (quite possibly with a kangaroo, looking at his ears and bouncy self). He is a fun filled happy terrier who has sadly been returned to us having been adopted by a family 6 months ago, due to the families personal circumstances.  It had absolutely nothing to do with anything this little fellow did. He gets on well with other dogs and is currently playing like a lunatic with my other terriers, apparently he's not so good with cats though.  However, on a positive note, he is said to be great with kids and so far I have to say he's been a delight.

13-10-09 UPDATE

Bingo has only been here a few days, but what a little superstar.  He is full of energy but understands boundaries and isn't too pushy, also now his food has been changed to Burns which is a natural food that should help level out his energy levels as there aren't any artificial colours or additives in it.  He's like a little ray of sunshine, always so pleased to see you. He's crate trained too and loves to play with a ball. What a perfect little man and a joy to foster.

26-10-09 UPDATE

Bingo has been with me a couple of weeks now and I've really got to know him well. He's great with kids, loves playing with other dogs, was brilliant with the two little beagle puppies that came to stay while they were waiting to find new homes, he sleeps in a crate and loves his walks, oh and loves playing ball too. He's a smart cheeky little fellow who will make someone a great companion. He is interested in the cats but doesn't appear to want to hurt them, he could reach them if he tried and if you tell him, 'no' then he gives up and goes to find something else to play with. He isn't worried by the ponies but thinks that the pigs are much more interesting and gets a bit carried away barking at them. He's walked off lead with my dogs and although his recall is slightly delayed he does come back and then races me home (don't worry folks there are no roads involved) I can't believe he's still here, he is too gorgeous to be left on the shelf!

ANITA

BEING FOSTERED IN EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND

Firstly can I say Anita is a beautiful girl.  Her photo does not do her justice and I will send a new one asap.  What a lovely quiet girl she is she just loves to be beside you.
She was a little timid at first but is getting braver by the day.  She was frightened going into the car but I have worked on this and  today she went to jump in it - what a star!
Walks great on the lead and getting used to the traffic. Anita gets on great with dogs and my cats.  She truly is a joy to have.

CHEROKEE

BEING FOSTERED NEAR MANY TEARS IN SOUTH WALES

07-10-09 Cherokee is a 4 year old Shih Tzu who is no longer needed by her breeders. Sadly, this girl has only one eye. She has lived with this all of her life though and copes very well. She is very sweet and will learn to love people quite quickly we think but will definitely need another dog to follow so please

22-10-09 UPDATE

Lovely Cherokee is slowly adapting to family life. When she first came here she was apprehensive and worried about everything; if you made a move towards her she would quickly scurry away with her tail tucked between her legs.  She would look as if to say "is it ok to come in from outside", "is it ok for me to sleep in one of the dog beds"? Now, although still wary of sudden movements, she walks proud, tail up in the air. Comes in and out as she pleases and chooses whatever bed she feels comfortable in.
Cherrie (as we call her), has fallen in love with my GSD, although I don't think he feels exactly the same as he looks down at her with a look as if to say go away and leave me alone!! She gets on well with all my dogs except my foster puppy as he seems to get on her nerves, so if she is going to be homed with another dog it must be an older calm dog who will be her friend. However Cherokee is not dependent on my dogs and likes human company so she could be homed as an only dog as long as someone is home most of the time.  A home with no children or older children is a must, as little ones would be too much for her. Apart from an accident the 1st night she was here, Cherokee has been 100% clean in the house.  The only minus point that I can think of with her at the moment is that she is an incredibly picky eater! She will only eat chicken at present; and if she doesn't feel like eating no amount of coaxing will get her to!! Hopefully this will improve as her palate widen as she becomes more settled.
Cherokee might not win no beauty contests, but her beauty lies within and she will make a lovely companion.

26-10-09 UPDATE
HIP HIP HOORAY - CHERRIE HAS EATEN SOME DOG FOOD TODAY!! OOK - in keeping with her expensive tastes it was Caesar Finest but this lady deserves and WILL have the best.  Do you know it never fails to amaze me and is heart-warming to witness how these dogs, no matter what they have been through in the past, respond to kindness. Since she has been here Cherokee has been shown nothing but love and affection and she is now starting to return the compliment by a lick of the hand (well more of a wash really because once she starts she doesn't know when to stop!) and now when I am working at the computer she will come and curl up at the side of my chair.  She is also starting to relax more;  for instance last night she was in one of the dog beds on her back with four legs in the air snoring her head off! If anyone is prepared to put in the effort to gain her trust you will be rewarded with one of the best 4 legged friends you could wish for.

31-10-09 UPDATE
Hello everyone,
I thought I'd let you all know how I'm getting on.  I'm settling in really well with my foster family and they adore me to bits.  I return the compliment by always giving them a friendly greeting with my tail wagging, and giving lots of licks and sitting alongside for a cuddle (more for my benefit than theirs!!).  When it's food time I show my excitement by bouncing up on my back legs and yes I now eat only dog food. Oh and to let you all know I always go outside for my ablutions! Heard that word on the TV the other night; knew you'd all be impressed!
My foster family keep saying I'm one of the easiest dogs they've had to stay because all I ask for is some nice food, a comfy bed to sleep in and lots of love.  Well they are right apart from one thing and that one thing is a home to call my own. I sneak up and look over their shoulder when they are on the MT site and I see others being home vetted and wonder why nobody wants me? My foster dad tells me "don't worry, your time will come". I hope it comes soon; not that I don't like it here but a place and family to call my own would be awesome!
He also says "beauty is in the eyes of the beholder"; haven't got a clue what it means but I think he's talking about me. Anyway, must dash as it's stopped raining for a bit so I can go outside; you guessed it I don't like getting wet!
Love and licks, Cherokee x

29-10-09 Niarobi is a beautiful 2 year old female Malamute who was brought as a puppy but has been returned to the breeder after a marriage break up.  What a pretty girl Neon is. She has had a great morning playing with Nushka and Nutella in the paddling pool in the yard, they have been galloping around for ages and is now getting cuddles in the yard with the volunteers. She is very bouncy and really enjoyed playing with the others.  She would be best with either a submissive bitch or a male dog.

HUMBUG

22-10-09 This is the stunning Humbug. He is an 14mth old collie boy who is a real sweetie. He is being rehomed because his owners felt it was unfair on him to be left all day while they were out at work. We have been told he is good with dogs, loves to play with kids and has met and is fine with cats. This super boy likes to play ball and is now just looking for a special home to call is own.

26-10-09 UPDATE - written by volunteers who came to visit and walk the dogs.
What a gorgeous boy. Very bold and friendly. Humbug would make somebody a great 'fun' companion, whether it's agility, jogging or long walks in the country. He loved being fussed and walked well on his lead, being pleased to see whoever he met. He was very sad to be put back in his kennel though and sat quietly as we walked away and left him. Please give this happy boy the active and fun life that he deserves and not let him be sad left in kennels.

28-10-09 UPDATE

Oh look at those eyes! Humbug’s previous owners called him Humbug because he is black and white and sweet like a humbug! To me, Humbug seems to be a very happy boy and terribly loving and affectionate. He loves sniffing around in new areas but also likes to check back in with you regularly. He likes chasing a tennis ball and a dangly tug toy but what he was most interested in this morning was cuddles!

JONES

BEING FOSTERED IN FARNHAM, SURREY

01-09-09 Poor Jones. He arrived covered in mange, in such a mess and miserable. He has had treatment and is having more and improving every day. He has not had a home for years and has not been loved until recently. He is 4ish and a very sad lad - awaiting to find his rainbow's end.

21-09-09 UPDATE

Gentleman Jones has been sadly overlooked during his lengthening stay at our kennels. Sadly, this guy has spent nearly all his life shut in a horsebox with nothing but mange mites for company. He therefore hasn't socialised with dogs at all and really is only suitable to be an only dog or to live with a very quiet and easy female.
All that time alone must have been especially horrible for him as he absolutely loves people and is really making up lost time by cuddling anyone that comes close enough.

Even with such a start in life, Jones is a sweet and characterful dog.  He is very submissive with people in the house and turns over for a tummy rub at any opportunity.  He loves my two teenagers and their friends but is not a dog who can currently relax in the company of small children.  Because he has missed out on a lot of socialisation, he has found our world a bit overwhelming and would probably do best in a rural or semi-rural setting.  Jones has given the odd growl when he has been particularly worried.  However this is only occasional, is improving and he has never been overtly aggressive towards people.
He has progressed very well with learning new commands such as sit, stay, wait, down and in your bed.  Mealtimes are a joy as he has learned to sit and wait respectfully whilst his meal is prepared and put down. We have only had a few accidents in the house and he has graduated from sleeping in a crate to sleeping in a bed in the kitchen/diner.  We normally do not hear anything from Jones all night and he is so happy to see us when we come down in the morning.
We are continuing to treat the skin on his underside and the hair is starting to grow again. Jones loves going out for walks but because he was not used to seeing other dogs he is fearful of them and will see them off in a seemingly aggressive manner as he does not know how to greet them appropriately. We now muzzle him on his walks in the park and he will tremble if he is fearful of another dog.  I have seen a small improvement in this behaviour but it is an area that will require further work and probably socialisation walks/training.  If you have had a dog before then you will probably find this quite straightforward to work on.  Jones loves being on a long line lead which enables him to be free to follow scents and sniff to his heart’s content.  I practice recall on the long line and he is improving:  He now knows that if I call him and stand still, he has to come back or we don’t go anywhere!  Walking to heel on a short lead is also progressing but you should expect to continue working on this also. He especially enjoys going at a fast pace and loves to be with someone who is jogging or cycling. He has seen birds, squirrels etc on our walks and has only shown an interest but does not struggle on the lead to get to them unless he sees a rabbit!
Although Jones is happy to hop into the car, once he is inside he becomes very fearful and will start drooling and is often sick.  We have worked on this and have managed a journey of approximately 11 miles without any problems although this is variable.  When you have been shut in a confined space I suppose that this reaction should not be unexpected.
My daughter has been working on agility with Jones and he will now jump over small fences and up onto a bench to collect his treat.  He is quite an intelligent dog and needs an activity where he can use his brain.
I work part-time and Jones copes well with this.  When I come home from work I see him hop out of his bed and bounce about so happy to see me it brightens my day.  He is not a dog that barks a lot even when other dogs in the area are barking.  I have two guinea pigs and he has learned to live in harmony with them but although I haven’t seen him in close proximity to a cat, I expect that he would chase them.
This guy is very cute and needs a forever home that can commit to further training.

SHADOW

BEING FOSTERED IN ALDERSHOT, HAMPSHIRE

13-10-09 Shadow is a 2 year old male collie cross. Shadow is very friendly and can't wait to meet everyone with a waggy tail. Shadow is great with other dogs but especially likes the the company of females.  He is such a gentle boy will everyone both human and dogs we think he would probably be good with nice kids although, of course, they would have to come and meet him first!

28-10-09 UPDATE

Shadow has been with us for just over a week and I can honestly say he is one of the friendliest, happiest dogs I have ever met. He loves everybody, especially my two children (aged 9 & 13), he adores all dogs and wants to play with everyone. He is in his element with my lab bitch, she however is exhausted!
He has been completely clean in the house since day one, he loves his crate and puts himself to bed after our walks. Shadow does pull a bit on the lead but we are working on this. I'm sure it's just pure excitement as he's really really enjoying his walks and wants to make the most of every moment. I have let him off lead when walking with a friend and her dogs and his recall with a whistle has been really good. Today however, he became select with his hearing whilst having a rustle through the undergrowth in the woods. Again, we will be working on this!
It is imperative that Shadow is not homed with cats or anything furry which also includes birds. My little parrot is currently living upstairs, is now on valium and receiving counselling!!!
Shadow would suit an active family, with a friendly playful dog(s) as this boy is certainly not a 'walk round the block' collie. He has proved himself very intelligent and would benefit from a stimulating environment. He loves his cuddles and thinks he's a lap dog and just loves to be close and affectionate as you can see in the photograph! He will make a wonderful addition to a family and I really cannot recommend him highly enough.

ZORA

BEING FOSTERED IN BARGOED, SOUTH GLAMORGAN

02-10-09 Zora is a 5 year old westie who has been given by her breeder so she can find a loving pet home. Zora has always lived with other dogs and has no experience of living in a house with people so please only apply for her if you already have another dog to help her learn and be her friend.

 28-10-09 UPDATE

Zora is excellent with both of our dogs and our nine year old son. She has a fantastic appetite, and will eat anything put down to her.  She barked when she first saw our cat, but soon gave that up when she realised that the other two dogs weren't joining in!!!  She just wants to sit on our laps and be cuddled all day.  Her lead walking is coming along slowly, as she still finds it strange with a lead round her neck.  We put a small coat on her for her walks to keep her warm and dry, and she doesn't mind wearing it at all.  She loved her first bath and shampoo and her coat is beginning to grow back nicely.  Zora is a beautifully natured young lady and will make a loving friend to some lucky household.

11-10-09 UPDATE

After a long journey home Serene and her pups are doing fine.  She settled in over a week and her tail has started to come out from under her.  She has started to know what a settee is for and cuddles with us away from her brood! ENID

BEING FOSTERED IN BARNSTABLE, DEVON

11-10-09 Enid is a really sweet 4 year old ex breeding westie. She has been a breeding bitch for all her life, so has a lot to learn about the outside world although she has spent her day wagging and smiling at everybody. She will need another dog to help bring her out and teach her about life so please only apply if you already have a friendly and kind dog to help her.

PLEASE NOTE: We nearly always home ex-breeding dogs where there is ALREADY A RESIDENT DOG living in the house. 26-10-09 UPDATE
Enid has been with me for just over a week and what a star! Her tail only stops wagging when she is asleep, she is SO eager to please. Her toilet training is coming on, she is totally clean at night and the "accidents " during the day are becoming less by the day.  Her recall is very good in the house and garden and we are working on " sit " and " down ". She is happy on the lead.
As my own dog was an ex breeding MT rescue I was expecting Enid to be scared by most things but she is very outward going. She ignores the hoover, washing machine, TV and telephone. We went to Dartmoor yesterday and she wasn't bothered with the sheep or ponies. She did react when she saw a man with a long hiking stick but as soon as he put it down her tail wagged and she went over to say hello. She goes into overdrive at meal times but soon realises that there is plenty for her and in her own bowl and calms down.  This is work in progress.  She is not at all food aggressive or possessive. She is fine with cats, ignoring both of mine and she is happy with children.  She is one happy dog and will make someone a wonderful pet.

BASIL

BEING FOSTERED IN WOOLSTON, SOUTHAMPTON

17-09-09 Basil is a 2 year old beagle. He has been an only dog which he hated. He was insecure and hated being left. Basil was never crate trained and that may have to be the answer, although maybe the company of another dog could sort his problems.  His owners feel he needs a lot of exercise and although they walked him plenty he still wanted more. He escaped from their garden and went through a neighbour's cat flap and into their house - so is mischievous!  He is very good with children, soft and house trained but will need a special beagle savvy home to adopt him.

24-09-09 UPDATE

We collected Basil on Sunday and he has proved to be a real gentleman.  He loves my husband and 21 year old son and, follows me around, wanting just to be close and get a cuddle.  He gets on well with my four dogs ranging in size from a yorkie to a border collie, and just wants to play. He is fine when eating as all 5 dogs eat together, he is, however, eager to check out their bowls after he has finished.  There has been no aggression from him, more like an eager pounce towards any bowl!  As he was an only dog before, I expect he just
needs to learn that not all the bowls are his.
I had no problem when taking a chewie away from him, and he is especially gentle when taking treats from my hand, in fact they sometimes fall out and drop to the floor as he takes them so gently.  Basil has been completely clean in the house, with no marking at all, always waiting to be let out. Such a good boy!  He sleeps in my son's bedroom without a sound, and is very happy to see me in the morning.
When on the lead he pulls slightly but not too bad, and with correction should soon learn.  He has began to sit when asked, especially when there is food to be had, and he is learning to respond to his name and come when called but his recall is not that good - probably a beagle thing I think.  He travels very well in the car. whimpering sometimes when he sees other dogs, but this is minimal and he responds  when told to stop.  Today when I took him out alone in the car, he just sat quietly looking out of the window.
He has not yet been around small children, but at he is so good and gentle in all other ways, I am expecting him to be well mannered. I will try him in the next few days.  I am crate training him when I go out, this is only for short periods of an hour of so. He accepts the crate, and I always leave him with something to chew  like a Kong. So far he has been quiet as I leave, not always touching the toy but instead, ragging the blanket a little. He is always pleased to see me on my return, whimpering quietly when I come in the door. My neighbours say they haven't heard him when I am out.  As soon as he is released he asks to go into the garden. Once he has done his toilet, he then greets me and follows me around closely.  He likes to chew, so I make sure there are lots of toys around and things he is allowed to play with and chew, and I have had no problem so far!
I walk him for at least an hour each day, with the other dogs, he is ok staying on the lead whilst the others are loose.  He whimpers with a very waggy tail when he sees other dogs, and is well mannered and friendly when greeting them, wanting to play.  He seems happy and contented with an hour walk.
Basil needs company, someone who is home most of the day, as he loves people so much, and he needs to live with another playful dog of a similar size as he is quite exuberant, and playful.  So far we have found him to be a wonderful, soft natured dog, and have been pleasantly surprised by his good manners and gentleness. Someone who has the time to spend with him each day to stop him getting bored, would fall for him big time, as he has such a nice nature.

26-10-09 UPDATE

Basil has really made progress in the last three weeks.  He is no longer crated. He became very distressed in the crate and also began to bark when we were out.  He is now left in the hallway with access to the stairs and landing.  We have purchased a brilliant extra tall gate for the kitchen and now Basil is very happy to be left with his bed, stuffed kong /bone to chew, and with the company of Poppy the Border Terrier, who he loves to play with and cuddle at every opportunity.  The neighbours have confirmed the barking has now stopped and Basil
 is so much happier.
Basil and Poppy have been left for up to 3 hours without incident.  In general Basil is just a mellow, laid back gent, willing to play with Poppy in particular, but is eager to join in the chase in the garden with the others as well.  He likes his toys and anyone else's if he can swoop in and grab it, trotting off with his trophy high in the air.  He has learnt to sit and wait his turn at meal times, leaving the others in peace to eat.  He does however, bark at any cat he encounters, wanting to chase, so best not to be homed with one.  This is the only time he does bark, generally he is quiet, not even making a noise to be let in from the garden, and doesn't bark at the postman.
His recall is still non existent, we did try him on a trailing lead but found it best that he stays on a lead for now.  He will pull on a normal lead, not too bad, but I use a Gentle Leader  and Basil is happy to have it on, and then walks wonderfully.  If the other dogs are loose he is not worried at being on the lead and is eager to greet any other dogs, crying gently when he sees them, wagging his tail until he gets the chance of a sniff.
I am so surprised that there have been no enquiries about Basil.  He is a young 2, still very puppyish, the perfect age to train and for families to grow up with.  He has met children and was not worried by them patting him, just wagging like usual.  He does need another dog for company and is so loving and cuddly he will make a devoted pet.

FIG

BEING FOSTERED IN BEDFONT, MIDDLESEX

13-10-09 Fig is a 2 year old tiny terrier. Poor Fig is another dog who has been brought to us pregnant and we cannot spay her until her pups have been born. Fig is a very frightened little girl and has been learned only the wrong things about people. She will go to one our fosterers to have her pups and learn how to be loved.

26-10-09 UPDATE
Fig is a confident girl now she has settled in to the home routine. She is fully house trained and is very quiet when alone. She likes her comfy spot on the sofa but is also happy in a bed on the floor!  Fig has been very good with the other dogs but could be possessive if allowed too be. Previous terrier experience and a dog larger than herself in her new home would be advantageous.
Fig was thought to be pregnant on arrival but over the past week there has been no changes and she had an ultra sound scan today which confirms she is not physically pregnant but has a phantom pregnancy. This can occur following a season. No treatment is required for this and she will be spayed in the next few weeks.
Fig will make a wonderful fun companion. She loves going to the park and has perfect recall. Please consider giving this little lady a loving space in your home.

POPPY

BEING FOSTERED IN LACING, WEST SUSSEX

23-10-09 Poppy is a 6 month old collie who has been saved from a local pound. She has obviously had a very hard start in life and is terrified of everyone. Poppy has been great with our dogs and will need a home with another dog.  We do not know if Poppy has ever lived in a home so she will need time, patience and gentle training.  Please only apply for her if you have another resident dog or dogs living in the home who will help her.

26-10-09 UPDATE - written by volunteers who came to visit and walk the dogs.
Poor Polly. I cant imagine what has happened to this little girl in the first few months of her life to make her so scared.  When we took her for a walk she would only walk a few steps before lying down and when we went to stroke her she would urinate in fear and yet she has the kindest face and showed no malice. She let us fuss her and pick her up and is such a gentle dog. Polly deserves a special home and lots of love in her life. You will need to be patient, to help her overcome her fears, but I'm sure that in Polly you would have a very, very special companion for life. Please give her the love and kindness she deserves.

SANTO

BEING FOSTERED IN COWBRIDGE, VALE OF GLAMORGAN

22-09-09 Santo is a 1½  year old thin loving male collie type. He was at the pound and was to be destroyed but an angel saved him and we took him on. He is dog friendly and although has little training he is a star who wants to love and be loved.

12-10-09 UPDATE

Santo has been with us for a week.  He is extremely loving and friendly to all he meets.  This includes other dogs, cats and kittens, children and adults.  He is thriving on the attention and affection that we give him and he returns this double fold.  He wants to please and is responding to training, this includes toilet training (dry every night and has been dry during the day for the past three days) and the command of sit, wait and off.

Santo is gradually getting use to living in a house and is more relaxed with household sounds and noises, such as the television and washing machine; nevertheless, the vacuum cleaner so far remains the big ogre.  Santo is now much more use to a collar and lead, and he is beginning to enjoy his walks.  However, he is very uncertain and nervous of any type of traffic; yet I do get a strong impression that in the past he has tried to either round up or chase bicycles and motorbikes.  I firmly believe that Santo has had no previous training, and that this lovely, lovely boy will blossom and show how able and intelligent he his with the benefit of both formal and agility training.

25-10-09 UPDATE
Santo is much more relaxed in every way and is improving with regard  to traffic.  He is walking better on the lead and pulls only occasionally.  Santo has been on car journeys and presented with no problems at all.  He knows his name and comes when called, he knows the 'down' command now as well and is getting good with the 'stay' command.  Santo is truly a lovely boy and remains affectionate to all.  He loves to curl up of an evening on the settee with his head resting on someone's lap, he loves to have cuddles.

BENJI

BEING FOSTERED IN SOUTHAMPTON, HAMPSHIRE

30-09-09 Benji is a 1 year old bearded collie cross. When he first arrived at Many Tears he had a real problem trusting and was absolutely terrified of everything.   Slowly this changed and he became a wonderful galloping hearth rug, full of fun and mischief. We think a slightly older family is best but only because we saw him at the start with all his insecurities.  Benji does still have trust problems and can growl if he becomes unsure but he is clever, willing and very able to make you very happy. He needs a home who has plenty of time to love and help him.

09-10-09 UPDATE
Benji has been with me for a week now and he is a delightful boy and has got the most beautiful eyes. For the first few days he kept himself to himself not wanting to interact much with the other dogs or with me, though he followed me around but kept his distance. He was very watchful and as the days have gone by he has got closer and closer to me, coming for cuddles and licking my hand, coming when called. The trust is coming.
One of the things that Benji wouldn't do was look at me and we have been working on this and we now have good eye contact. He has clearly been let down in the past and it will take him time to trust. Benji clearly has not been trained or socialized with either dogs or humans and his defensive behaviour is due to this, he will bark when he is scared or worried, especially if anyone leans over him. I have taken him with me to training and he is interacting well with other dogs and people, his confidence is growing.
Benji does have a skin condition at the moment and to help this he has been shaved, he really enjoyed the shower and the hair cut and leapt around like a new born lamb, with this huge smile on his face. He is scratching a lot less now and now that the air is getting to his skin, the redness is fading. Another thing I have found out about Benji is that he doesn't like excitement or a hectic lifestyle.  He likes to chill in peace and quiet though he is beginning to play with me and the dogs.
Benji will need a special loving home where he can have peace and quiet, another dog would be good but needs to be gentle, non aggressive or hyper, preferable a female. No children. Someone at home most of the day, a house that is not generally hectic or noisy. People who will put in the time and energy in helping him grow in confidence and get down on the floor and play with him and regularly groom him.
Benji is a loving dog considering that he has had no guidance in his young life. He will make a fantastic member to any family. Please don't pass him by because he has a few issues, they can and are being worked on and his personality is getting bigger and bigger.

23-10-09 UPDATE
Benji has been with me three weeks now and he is a fantastic dog, energetic, joyful and very lovable. His skin condition has cleared up and he is putting on weight, it won't be long before he is his correct weight. He loves travelling in the car and loves his walks, he now has A1 recall and is now off the lead, he is a delight to take out and thoroughly enjoys his romps through the New Forest.  He loves water and mud pools and he makes sure you share them to! His fitness levels are increasing as is his muscle tone. It may well be worth keeping his coat short especially as he likes being groomed and bathed.
Benji interacts well with other dogs and people on walks and is fine around horses and cattle. His socialization and training is going well and his confidence is growing, bearing in mind he is only a year old he is doing very well indeed. He does show signs of separation anxiety and I am working with him on this. Benji doesn't like people bending over him.  He becomes scared and will growl at them. With time and patience trust will come and this will stop. He does find it hard living with other dogs especially male dogs, excitement, other dogs playing get him wound up, he is still learning how to interact appropriately with dogs and how to live with them. Again time, training and a experienced owner will help these issues.
Benji needs: A calm and quiet home. No children. Preferably no other dogs (a female dog may be alright).  Experienced dog owners who are at home most of the day and who will continue his training and socialization.
Benji is an adorable boy who oozes love and affection and deserves the best forever home possible. Please don't pass him by just because he has a few issues, once he trusts you you will have the most loyal and loving dog imaginable.

BILL

BEING FOSTERED IN EAST MOLSEY SURREY

21-10-09  Bill is a 3 year old collie cross. He has been a pet and a helper as he used to work cattle. His original owner could no longer keep him so he has came to us to find a home.  Bill was rehomed but has sadly been returned because he can have issues with other dogs when off the lead. He has been living with a 3 month old collie pup and is fine with him and is currently being housed with another dog here at the rescue centre. He is fine when on the lead and controllable when off lead. He is a loving, incredibly handsome and energetic dog who is super keen to find his new home!

SAX

BEING FOSTERED IN TUFFLEY, GLOUCESTERSHIRE

 22-09-09
Sax is an 8 month old affectionate, tall, friendly and happy dog. He wants you to love him and will work hard to earn that but he will not have a chance if you do not come to meet and greet this wonderful dog.

06-10-09 UPDATE
Sax has only been here 2 days and for a dog that is only 8mths he has been fantastic.  He's 100% clean in the house which to be honest I was expecting some accidents but nothing and already has his spots in the garden where he goes. He gets on well with other dogs and is currently sharing a house with my Collie. Sax has no food aggression at all but is not sure what to do with a chew as he has buried the ones I've given him. He walks well on the lead but does like to be nosey and look over garden walls if he can. Sax hasn't been left yet so I will update you later.
There are only two things which we need to work on but as he is still young I don't think this will be a problem. First, he loves people but to him means he has to jump up and give everyone kisses. He has met 5 kids ranging from 2 to 10 yrs but I did keep him on the lead as he was a bit excitable so definitely something I need to work on. Secondly, we met some doves on our walk and Sax thought it would be good to chase them again something to work on. We haven't met any cats yet so can't say what he's like with them but I will update you later.
Sax can jump (not to get out!) just to check out the washing that was on the line and us if we don't move in time.  He would make a fantastic agility dog but an ACTIVE home would be perfect for him. He has a collie brain so he learns quickly and his recall is coming along nicely. He can be a bit clumsy he tends not to look where he's going so you can imagine he's walked into cupboards, walls and had a near miss with a tree!!
There's not much more I can say about Sax from the short time he's been here only that he would make a great active family pet. I do have to say his picture makes him look big but he is about the size of a large collie and will get some photos shortly.

21-10-09 UPDATE
Well Sax has been here 2 weeks now so I can give you a better update on how he is doing.  He is just fantastic, 100% clean in the house, very friendly to people, dogs still haven't met any cats yet but I don't think this would be a problem.  Sax is able to be left for at least 1hr with no destruction he was left with his toys and a chew (which he now knows he is supposed to chew it and not bury!).
I really think the best home for Sax would be an active home and for him to have another dog to play and learn from.  Unfortunately for him my collie does not play and he would be best with no toddlers - he is not nasty at all but does get over excited and wants to give them all his love with all of him!
He is very good walking on the lead and off lead his recall is 95% (I was able to let him off after only 4 days) but he does get a bit OTT when playing with other dogs.  The pointer in him really comes out when he is out and about in the field.  He has learnt not to jump up at everybody but sometimes he just can't contain himself but this is getting better all the time.
His picture really doesn't do him justice (will try to get some but he can't stay still) he is lovely and everyone comments how nice he is. Sax is also the easiest dog to maintain, dries in minutes and brushes in less.  I really can't praise him enough.

BRIGHT EYES

BEING FOSTERED IN SWINDON, WILTSHIRE

 26-09-09
Bright Eyes is a 6-7 year old Bischon ex breeding bitch. She is a really lovely, gentle lady, who loves other dogs and will make friends quickly. She will need an existing dog in a new home to help her settle so please only apply for her if you already have a dog living in the home who is kind, gentle and friendly.

20-10-09 UPDATE

Bright Eyes is one of the sweetest most gentle little dogs I have ever met. She is so easy to foster she gets on well with my other dogs, is fully housetrained, walks well on the lead, but can be a bit nervous if someone approaches too quickly but this is getting better. Bright Eyes is fine with older children but I think she would prefer a quiet home with an older person or couple, and another little dog for company. We have left her for up to 3 hours with my dogs and she is fine. So if you would like a gentle loving little lap dog come and meet her you will fall in love with her.

JACK THE LAD

14-09-09 Jack the Lad is a little monster at times. If he had a life running around a stable or farm yard and was not told to do too much you would think he was a smashing fellow. Sadly when challenged with behaviour you dislike Jack will growl and bite. Now you may think he is a write off - but hey you just have to learn to be cleverer than him (come on we are supposed to be the more intelligent race).   Use canine kidology and win a number of times in a row and he just simply gives up with being a little devil. Sit, cuddle, bike ride and eat an ice cream with this fellow and you will be heading for a life time friend. So to sum this up you will need to train, be clever, cunning, masterful and not a quitter or he will will get stuck here. Does this sound too much of a challenge for you? Adult homes only please please and he is good with other dogs.

19-10-09 UPDATE

Jack the Lad is a real character and smart! He knows how to sit and lie down in response to a verbal cue and learnt how to target my hand in his first clicker training session today. He loved playing tug with me this morning and was very controllable – releasing his hold the moment the toy became motionless and sitting on command in between rounds! With reasonably regular food reinforcement and changes of direction, he walked well on a loose lead.

BUMBLE

BEING FOSTERED IN BREAN, SOMERSET

15-10-09 Bumble is an ex breeding lab. She is 6 years young and is ready to let down her hair and experience the world, the only problem is she isn't yet brave enough too. She really needs a very forward going dog to be homed with to help her realize her dream.

PLEASE NOTE: We nearly always home ex-breeding dogs where there is ALREADY A RESIDENT DOG living in the house. BRAMBLE

BEING FOSTERED IN AMMANFORD, DYFED

04-05-09 Bramble is approximately 2 years old and has been returned because she has a habit of biting when she gets scared. She has been returned to her previous foster home and will be monitored over the next few days to assess her behaviour. Bramble has come back quite overweight however, with brisk daily walks and a sensible diet she will soon return to her beautiful, svelte-like self. Bramble is very subdued and somewhat shell-shocked at finding herself back but she really enjoys her walks despite puffing and panting all the way because of her excess weight. She did whine off and on through the night but this will no doubt stop once she’s settled back into a routine. Bramble is as loving and affectionate as ever although somewhat noisy - but what do you expect she is a Beagle!

25-05-09 UPDATE

Bramble can play a little too rough but Jack the Black Terrier mix will tolerate no nonsense and firmly puts her in her place and Bramble absolutely loves him. I’ve discovered that Bramble really enjoys wading in the river and this latest photo shows her cooling off whilst sat on the rocks.  Given half the chance she has always been very loving with me and anyone who talks to her so I’m hoping that an experienced owner will fall for her as I have because she really is a very special girl.

21-06-09 UPDATE

Over the last couple of weeks Bramble has really turned a corner. She is beginning to interact better with the other dogs in my home and they are now more accepting of her. Despite remaining vocal she is friendly to other dogs when out on our walks and people too. There remains one problem which I haven't been able to resolve yet; she occasionally gets spooked when out on our walks and it's never the same thing. Sometimes its a vehicle that spooks her or a person, man or woman (never children). When this happens she freaks out and starts barking and biting in shear panic. If I didn't take a firm hold of the lead there's a chance she would nip my leg. Any other time she has never attempted to bite or nip me or anyone else. She will try to nibble you in a playful way though. She adored having my 16 month old grandson to stay and was receptive to commands from my son. If Bramble was adopted by an experienced dog owner who was prepared to give her time to settle then they would be rewarded with a very loving dog because she really is very affectionate.

 16-07-09 UPDATE
With each passing week as Bramble has become more accustomed to my routine she has relaxed a little more and has completely changed from a shell-shocked manic dog to a happy, chirpy, cheeky and sometimes naughty little minx! She is definitely much more relaxed with her environment and the other dogs. However, we did have a set back the other week; she was happily trailing behind me on her lead when a woman past us and said "Good Morning"; Bramble flew into a state of sheer panic and bit me on the heel. I bent down and held her by the neck until the panic had passed and we continued on our way. On this basis I now only let her off lead when there are no other dogs or people in sight or they are dogs and people she knows. (Her recall continues to remain good.) I also now put a harness on her when we go for a walk so that I have better control of her and I ensure that she walks by my side! I started calling her Bramble-Tarcara as I have had so many comments about her being such a beautiful dog it seemed only fitting that she should have an appropriate name. The first time I called her this she wagged her tail in delight as if to confirm that Tacara really was a fitting name for her. Tacara meaning 'beautiful one'.

08-09-09 UPDATE
Whilst Bramble has settled well into family life I'm still hoping that someone is looking for another Beagle to compliment their family as Bramble would really benefit from a batty Beagle playmate. Since Jack the Lad left she hasn't had another who wants to play with her and to hear her pitiful cry when she's rejected by the other dogs is heart-rendering. Little Tacara so wants to be part of a pack and when she tries to snuggle up to my Scottie cross Timmy he just shuns her and Teagan my Yorkie just about tolerates her.
To recap, Tacara is fully house-trained and sleeps happily through the night but she does have the company of two other dogs in the kitchen. She walks well on the lead and has good recall. She's good with most dogs but other dogs don't always like her! She's interested in the cat but not obsessed. She's met by 18 month old grandson when he came to visit for a few days and she doesn't seem bothered by his howling and screeching! She's left with my other dogs three times a week for approximately 3 hours and she's fine. She also travels well.
Finally, I went away for a few days in August and she was looked after by three adults who had a Jack Russell. Whilst Bramble wasn't keen on her a quick squirt with the water pistol kept her in check! I have grown to really love her and could happily adopt her but I want the best for Bramble and I feel that would be with other beagles where she was part of the pack. I do hope she finds her new family soon as the longer I have her the harder it will be for me to part with her but more importantly Bramble needs a family she can call her own.

15-10-09 UPDATE

Bramble continues to make good progress and is interacting much better with my other two dogs.  I've now realized what has been Bramble's main problem; she is very hard of hearing.  Because of her keen sense of smell and her ability to react when the other dogs do I never realized that it was her hearing or lack of it that was creating the problems with her.  Now this has been established I ensure that when I give basic commands that this is followed up with a hand signal.  Obviously, this is probably the cause for her panic mode when we've been out on walks as she's has been suddenly startled by people/things just appearing.  Its taken a few months but she is now a happy and relaxed dog who loves her walks, her chews and most of all her cuddles!  Please do consider her but please remember to reap the rewards that I have you are going to have to be very patient and understanding until she feels safe and loved in her new environment.

JERRY

BEING FOSTERED IN MELKSHAM, WILTSHIRE

30-03-09 Jerry is about 2½ years old.  He was handed into a vets as the bottom part of his leg had been chewed off.  He had probably been caught in a badger trap and done this act to save his own life as the cruel setter of this trap did not even have the decency to check his traps.  Anyway brave Jerry had such infection eating up the bone that the leg and shoulder blade was gangrenous and all had to be removed. Despite this he is a happy sweet fellow and he is in great need of a very happy ending.

From an adopter
We adopted JJ (formerly Vinny) over two years ago, shortly after he had had the same operation as Jerry, removal of front leg and shoulder. Balance was JJ's first hurdle, but with regular short walks and carries when he got tired, he achieved this relatively quickly being young enough to adapt (he was only 8 months old).
The next thing was stamina. It takes a lot more energy to move your body in a new way, and I'm sure JJ had a few aches and pains to begin with as his muscles adjusted. We did some hydrotherapy with him and also he had acupuncture and massage, spiritual healing and Reiki!! But his baptism of fire came one day whilst walking at Blagdon Lake. All the dogs were walking across a bridge over a pond when one of the others barged past JJ and knocked him into the water!! I went into panic mode (of course) and started wading out to my floundering boy, but then he began to swim really strongly, and although I guided him to the side, he got straight back in again!! Far from putting him off, the experience gave him so much confidence in the water and he has never looked back.
Apart from Glycoflex to build his muscles (like human Glucosamine) and Fish oils for his joints, he needs no medication and can walk 5 miles without a hitch, jump in and out of the car and on and off the bed. He is a happy, playful and very mischievous chap and I have to say that most of the time we forget he even has one leg less than the others.
I'd say the most important part of JJ's recovery was swimming, it is great for strength, stamina and balance and as often as we can, we get him in the ponds, lakes and rivers. Proper hydrotherapy is much more available nowadays also, and the vet normally know where your nearest centre is. Three-legged dogs can lead normal, fulfilling and happy lives and are much more interested in a cuddle, a nice walk or what tit-bits they can get, than worrying about their physical differences (we humans could learn a lot from dogs!) so hope this helps whoever gives Jerry that special home.

15-08-09 UPDATE
Jerry is not well at the moment and is undergoing vetinerary treatment.

15-10-09 UPDATE
On speaking to the vet that treated Jerry and to his fosterers I’m pleased to tell you that all is well with Jerry. He did have a one off problem with his manly bits but all is well now. This lovely fellow is now very ready to find a home, the fosterer describes him as:

  • Great with children we have a 5 year old
  • not bothered about cats we have 2 great nature good with other bitches loves to be with people
  • loves his toys. tennis balls!!!!!!!!! My husband says he has OCD with them as he has them all together in a row.

He has been described as having very puppy like attitude, and although he his great fun he does have a very short attention span with regards to training and learning things. Work will need to be continued by his new owners with Jerry’s separation anxiety and his sometimes vocal nature which his fosterers have made a good start with.
He is also being treated for a leakage problem which seems to be improving daily, this may require future medication.

JET

13-10-09 Jet has come back to us because he is said to be uncontrollable on the lead. Although he is exuberant, with the right correction and firm but fair handling, he is controllable. He is a very handsome chappy and very affectionate. He would be best homed as an only dog and without cats as he will chase! Jet is extremely agile and would benefit from doing a canine sport like agility. I found he didn’t respond to his name this morning and so had a clicker training session with him, during which he started to understand that ‘Jet’ means ‘look at me’! He was a little too distracted this morning to get involved playing tugging or ball games but once he is a bit more settled, hopefully his playful side will come out!

MYTH

10-09-09 Myth is a 5 year old Akita. She is an ex breeding bitch, but has lived in a home also some years ago. She is house trained and is good with people and dogs. She is a very affectionate lovely lady.

08-10-09 UPDATE

Myth is a sweet, playful girl. She has been in with various dogs and has been very good with all of them, although much prefers male dogs. She really needs a quiet male dog to live with and show her all about the world. She just adores attention, and would love to be cuddled and played with all day.

09-10-09 UPDATE
Myth enjoyed her first clicker training session this morning. She is a smart girl and very keen to work for food treats. She very quickly grasped the idea of the clicker and was flopping into a down position for a click and treat! Myth is very manageable on the lead and loved sniffing around in the fresh grass this morning on her walk. Unfortunately she was far too interested in sniffing around to be engaged in play, but no doubt she could be encouraged to play games in a less distracting environment.

CONNOR

30-09-09 Connor is a 2 year old German Shepherd cross.  He originally came to us as a stray from a local pound. He's a lovely boy, very bright and friendly and good with other dogs but he does need clear cut handling.  He has been through a lot and needs someone to stick with him.  Due to his size he would probably best best in an adult home or where any children are teenagers or older.  He is very loving and just need someone to give him direction and training.

03-10-09 UPDATE

Having worked training dogs, I was asked to spend some time with Connor to see what I thought of him. I found him to be very friendly and trusting of me.  Before I even got a chance to call him, he came bounding over and quickly flopped over on to his back for a good tummy tickle. I was told he was returned for being unpredictable so he will need firm but fair handling, clear rules and consistency. He is intelligent and motivated which make him a strong candidate for training. He enjoys playing controlled tug and fetch and is great at catching pieces of food! He can be strong on the lead when excited but is generally very manageable.

This dog is at the main rescue centre in Llanelli, Carmarthenshire.

SALLY

14-09-09 Sally is 10 years old and in desperate need of a home.  She has been waiting in kennels for a year and so we have offered to try and help her find a home.  She is house trained and not any trouble, although is a little nervous of men.  She doesn't damage furniture and is just an old but very loving dog in need of a home with a soft bed to see out her remaining years.

ALICE

BEING FOSTERED NEAR MANY TEARS IN SOUTH WALES

23-06-09 Alice is looking for a new home because she has a fear of children which is making it very difficult for her owner to walk her.  Even their voices can frighten her.  Alice was originally found as a stray so we don't know what has caused this fear but she really needs a experienced, extremely kind and loving home to help her overcome them.  She is not completely housed trained so you will need to be prepared to help her learn this.
Alice has an enormous amount of energy and chews when left probably because she is not getting the exercise she needs. She can access all sorts of things on benches and out of waste bins but she's as bright as a button and someone with the time would be able to teach her this is not acceptable.  Alice definitely needs a home with another dog. She love all dogs - she happily greets any and all when we are out, she craves human company at all times and quickly gets distressed if she thinks there's no human around so a home where someone is at home for most of the day is essential and where they can build up to the amount of time she can be left.
Alice needs a home where they are prepared to help her with her fears and phobias so she can have a happy life.
