LATEST NEWS ON CHARLEY

From the second photo you can see Beryl and Charley got on fine and are here enjoying ‘squirrel’ TV. Damage was limited to a plant, stupidly left by us on the floor, and it was nice to see Beryl teaching Charley how to be naughty, something that I think comes naturally.

Charley was a bit love sick when Beryl returned to her home, but continues to make steady progress. Hopefully from the first photo you can see he’s filling out and is starting to get admiring comments from people. Most days he’s jumping for joy round the garden and eagerly out front on his walks. We still have the odd day when he reverts back to his old self and hides in corners for no reason. I guess his memories still come back to haunt him. So we take every day as it comes but the trend is still positive.

He’s a real joy for us and it’s very satisfying to have helped in someway to give this lovely boy some happiness, love and kindness.
Thanks again to many tears for making this possible in the first place

UPDATE 16-11-07

16-11-07 Just a quick line to let you know Charley is doing really well and is very happy. He’s now not scared of us, though still a bit nervy of other people and hates the dreaded fireworks (hopefully now relenting for another year).

He jumps in the back of the car and looks forward to his journeys to differing walks. He has two big walks with my wife every day then plays with me when I get home  from work (a real rough and tumble) then eats his food, spends the rest of evening upside down snoozing on his bean bag, finishing off with a late night walk around the block.
We’ve started to let him off the lead during walks as now he sits and lets us approach him rather than running off. He’s even attended his first training school and seemed better behaved than most. He loved the doggie interaction.
Finally he’s up to 40 kg up from 31kg just 3 months back and the vet is very pleased with his progress. The only improvement required is a bit more muscle on his hind quarters otherwise perfect.
Thanks again for giving this lovely, lovely boy a chance in life
Best wishes
John

Do you remember Charley?  He was here at Many Tears last year - a very scared lost soul. His mum and dad have had him a year now and he and they love each other to bits. He visited the other day and looks magnificent.

Hi Sylvia, Bill and the team,
Just to update you on Charley. We had his 5th birthday on Monday, which was the 1 year anniversary of us picking him up from many tears He had a lovely day with some presents and he particularly liked the footballs.
He had a big walk on the Surrey Downs and then went to his training school to meet all his friends in the evening. He’s a very happy boy now, playing, sleeping and eating to his heart’s content. He’ll always be Charley though and still goes into ‘scared’ mode if someone makes a sudden movement and he’ll be forever grateful to you guys for giving him a chance in life, a chance he richly deserves as he’s the most gentle and genuinely nice creature one could hope to know.
Thanks again John and Pauline

Hi Bill, Sylvia and team
Yet another Charley update as he won a rosette at the Great Windsor Wag and Bone show. In his heat he came 2nd (out of around 20 dogs) in the best rescue dog class. You can see him celebrating his rosette with us and our nephews.
As you can see Charley is a wonderful advert for Rotties being so gentle around children. Charley also entered the most handsome hound class where as you can also see Peter Purves (of Blue Peter fame) examined him. The tension rose as Charley was chosen to be in the last seven line-up, but in the end we didn’t get chosen for a top three place.
Charley showed off his rosette to his friends at his training school last night and is enjoying his star status.
 Best wishes
 John and Pauline
