The Railway is of 2ft gauge and runs three quarters of a mile and was originally built in 1896. The railway runs from Lhen Coan to the headland and around the coast. When first built the railway carried passengers from Groudle Glen to Sea Lion Rocks where there was a zoo with sea lions and polar bears.
The railway started with 1 steam powered locomotive 'Sea Lion' and 3 passenger coaches. Another locomotive ‘Polar Bear' and more coaches were added soon after. The line was closed for World War II but after the war services started again with ‘Polar Bear’ pulling trains to the headland. In 1962 the line was closed again. In 1986 volunteers reopened the line to the public after restoration. The line was then extended to the original terminus and Lhen Coan Station was rebuilt, and the restored trains were returned to service.
