    Growing Media
Most school greenhouses have moved away from soil or compost as a component in their growing media. It has potential to bring weeds, insects and disease into your greenhouse. Also soil and sand weigh more. More work carrying pots.

Most schools don't create their own soilless mixes, since good quality, reasonably priced soilless mixes are available. Also The bins for the different soil components takes up valuable space in the greenhouse. It is good to know the different ingredients and to teach them to students, but it takes space and time to create mixes.
