Tha Makuta Saga

The island of Mata Nui was a tropical paradise. the spirit known as Mata Nui came down to care for all living things. The inhbitants of the island, the Tohunga and their leaders, the Turaga thanked him and worshipped him. They even named the island after him. But Mata Nui had been followed by his evil brother, Makuta. Makuta desired the island and all his brother had, so cast him into a deep sleep. The Islanders refused tro worship him as they had Mata Nui, so Makuta turned the island's animals, the Rahi against them using infected masks. He set up a lair underneath the island's volcano, and set about trying to destroy the Tohunga's wills and make them worship him.

There was still hope however. The Turaga told of an ancient legend, that six heroes, the toa would come and free them from Makuta. Years past, some had almost lost hope, but one adventurous Tohunga named Takua set about collecting the toa stones. Only when these were collected could the toa be summoned. He succeded. but the blast wiped his memory.

Six canisters washed up onto the shores of Mata Nui, each containing a toa. From the turaga they learnt of their destiny, and set about collecting the Kanohi masks of power. Only when the toa each had a full set could they hope to challenge Makuta. It was a dangerous task. Makuta controlled the land, sea and sky of the island as well as the fearsome rahi. But the toa succeded, and left to challenge Makuta once and for all.

Once in his lair, they combined to form 2 mighty beings, the Toa Kaita. They fought the Manas, fearsome crab-like rahi, and just survived. Once in his inner lair however, they were torn apart and the six original toa re-emerged. The next challenge was the shadow toa, dark replicas of themselves sent to test their true power. Again, the toa were victorious and fnally reached Makuta. By combining their elemental energies, they destroyed Makuta. Or so they Believed. But this was not to be the end of their troubles. As they re-emerged, they heard the sounds of trees falling, mountains crumbling. After fighting off some bug-like creatures, they realized that Mata Nui was in great danger once more. A new evil was plaguing the island. The Bohrok swarms!
