YES! - Youth Empowering Seniors

Kids Who Care

In 2008 I established YES as an organization that seeks to get high school students together to assist and befriend the elderly around our community. This may be done in a variety of ways and is not limited to any set of activities. The needs and desires of those we serve are highly varied, and we want to respond in a way that makes the most positive impact possible. If a student is not already acquainted with the senior citizen he is going to visit, we may send a partner with him that is either familiar with the person or would like to visit them.
Unless otherwise stated, every other Saturday we visit one of the nursing homes in Clinton as a group. We play games and visit with a group of residents. As we have gotten to know them we have had the chance to speak with them individually. The nursing homes' staff have agreed to get together all the residents who would like to visit and play games with us.
Clinton has benefited in countless ways from the hard work of past generations. It is important for the youth of today to remember the contributions of their elders and to assist them in whatever way they can. It is an enriching experience to spend time with past leaders, homebuilders, teachers, and neighbors.
Our first visit was Saturday, September 27 at United Methodist Retirement Home. We played Bingo and dominoes with about a dozen residents. I put a few pictures of that and subsequent visits on the gallery page; however, each visit is very similar so I have limited the pictures to 9 or 10 per location.
Thank you for your interest in YES. If you know of someone around Clinton who would be great for this program, please e-mail me at reed4fun@hotmail.com, or call (580)309-1309.

Yours,
Ben Reed
