| The Long-Awaited Update |
Long-awaited for me, at least.
With the regular season 3 games in, I'm pretty excited about the
Raiders. We've got a top 10 defense and a top 15 offense, and with
Collins coming in to replace Gannon, I really think we can score on a
lot of drives this year. I just hope it doesn't cost Shane Lechler a
Pro Bowl spot.
3 of our rookies ae doing really well, one I expected and two not quite
so much. One is the obvious Robert Gallery, whose stepped in and been a
wall at right tackle after Frank Middleton complained about being
replaced at left guard. Fine with me, Langston Walker at right tackle
was probably our worst spot.
One of the other players is Jake Grove of Virginia Tech. He was very
good in the preseason, completely owning La'Roi Glover and Bryant
Young. He's seen limited time in the regular season, but one suprising
stat; after the 1st half in the Pittsburgh game, Grove replaced Treu at
center. Wheatly then averaged 7 yards a carry, and Gannon was not
sacked again. I don't care that much, however, since the offensive line
has done an amazing job since, giving up a whole 0 sacks (1 was Collins
sliding to keep the clock going).
The last is Courtney Andersen, our currently 3rd string TE, although
with Roland Williams out he's been used in 2TE formations. Supposedly
he's a heck of a run blocker, and seems to have a nice combination of
size and speed. He made one big catch against the Niners, but his hands
are on-and-off, making some bad drops against the Cardinals.
