GLOUCESTER, MA (6/18/08) - 17 girls at a high school are pregnant at the same time, many of them operating in a pact to become pregnant so they can all raise their kids together.
LOS ANGELES (5/9/08) - A fight, a troubled South Los Angeles high school, a campus-wide brawl, as many as 600 students, quelled by police in riot gear.
BALTIMORE (4/08) - A teacher beaten by a student inside her classroom, an attack captured via cell phone, a student told to sit down, a class encourages rebellion, a student strikes teacher, a principal admonishes...the teacher "for uttering a 'trigger' word" which, by implication, facilitated the entire situation.
PONTIAC, MI (3/18/08) - A teacher beaten, a teacher hospitalized, a group of students (allegedly) does this after being told to leave a bathroom.
These are not yesterday's students!
These are not yesterday's students; we cannot teach today's kids with out-dated strategies--nor can we have effective pedagogy without consistent, tough love--nor can we teach in environments of chaos and cacophony! We firmly believe that all children can learn, but we also maintain that education is a privilege. Those students who seek to rob others of a quality education must not remain in an traditional academic setting. We seek to spread the truth about the state of education as it exists in many districts across this nation.
