MAC or Mevagissey Angling for Charity, is a non-profit fund-raising organisation supporting Cornwall Air Ambulance & Mount Edgecumbe Hospice.
Consisting of a small group of hardworking volunteers & supported by a host of very generous members of the local population! We are dedicated to raising awareness of what our local community has to offer and at the same time supporting our life saving charities - who rely on people like us to keep their services going.
5 years ago MAC took over the running of Mevagissey's annual Angling Competitions, which have always been popular with the locals and raised lots of cash for charitiy, and it has been growing ever since.
We have commited ourselves to organising a range of events throughout the year to reach an annual target - which we are able to inncrease each year!
All money raised by MAC is kept secure in its own account and at the end of the year gets devided equally betweeen the Air Ambulance and Mount Edgecumbe Hospice. Due to the generosity of our community there is very little or no layout for our events, so everyone who supports us can be sure that their money goes directly to charity.
2008 brings a new and exciting dimension to MAC, with a new target, new profile and new sponsors... we aim to deliver a fantastic year of events.
With many of our local businesses involved and lots of enthusiastic volunteers - our goal is to raise £8000 for charity!
This years Off Shore Angling Competition will be held on Saturday 9th August, the times and rules are the same as last year - see the 'rules and regulations' page. Our official sponsors for the contest are W.S.B (Western Sea Baits) we are gratefull to have them on board and appreciate their support.
We will be fishing on a Neap tide (lowest tide of the year) so the landing will be off the Lighthouse quay - due to the lack of water at the jetty.
Our annual charity raffle will be held down stairs in the Social Club at 5:30pm - which leaves plenty of time to get home and scrubbed in time for the Big Party. Up stairs in the club, watch this space for details of the entertainment!
finally... Grab your places and Good Luck!
M.A.C would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody who helped out with the 2008 off shore angling compeition.
We raised over £2500 all which will b added to the pot to be split equally between our two charities - the Cornwall Air Ambulance and Mount Edgecumbe Hospice, at the end of the year.
It was a fantastic day despite the horrendous weather. With the rain falling pretty much the whole day and choppy sea conditions it wasnt the pleasureble day out we saw last year! However 6 of the 15 boats made it out and of those few brave anglers we had some very worthy winners. The raffle and the parties surrounding the event were also a great success.
Judge Martin Carringtion found the Demelza, skippered by John Edge to be the winners of the sheild after they managed to catch 11 species.
So this year the Albert Morfod Trophy goes to the crew of the 'Demelza' and The Harbour Tavern. The best angler prize, sponsored by WSB Tackle, of a rod and tackle - was won by 10 year old Kalie Dawd, how bravley joined the all girl boat with Yo Yo and team - Kalie was the only girl not to loose her breakfast and cought 3 species! well done to all our winners!
Thank you to all who helped to make this a successfull event yet again, the support and generosity of the you all is so much apreciated.
We hope to see you all on the jetty aging next year - and hope for better weather!
