This is the script I used, on the recent Youtube Video I posted today 17th April as follows:- This video depicts a recent visit to Farthings. The home of the Global icon who is :- Sir Patrick Moore. The aim of this 10 minute film is to show the works carried out, on his Dome Observatory. Work carried out by whom? you may well ask. Well it all started out from a couple of visits to Patricks house by two members Martin and Roger. Yes members of an online astronomy forum here in the uk, known as "The Stargazers Lounge." Having seen the observatory many times on patricks tv programme The sky at night. They were surprised to note that although the famous 15" Fuller telescope had recently been restored.the domed observatory was looking rather poorly to put it mildly. This played, somewhat on both of their minds, and so a plan was hatched. The idea was that other members of the forum could all agree on a date to meet up at Farthings and get to work repairing and re-decorating the Dome. I must point out the response when this idea was mentioned on the Stargazers Lounge, Was, simply Quite overwhelming. The offers of phsycally going, had to be kept to a sensible number, with some room for a substitute team. As well as many, many offers, of financial aide.Materials and personal tools.Things soon got organised and a date to start the work was agreed, with Patrick and his advisers. ********************************************************************************** ********************************************************************************** It is now the intention to go back at a later time to finish any snagging Also, its worthy of note that, the roll on roll off roofed observatory, is in some need of repair. and so once the dome is properly finished. Some taskwork will be done on that too. I hope to present another video when that happens. I would like to thank Sir Patrick for allowing, a group of basically, some 20 Unknown persons, to invade his property! We all know what it can be like to have the builders in. But these builders "moved in! " And enjoyed the very finest of hospitallity, that could have been offered to good friends, never mind almost complete strangers, apart from we all sharing the love of astronomy that is. And in respect of that I would like to say :- Patrick we all deeply admire, repect and adore you SIR! It has been an honour, to be involved, in helping out with this project. And thank you again for allowing us to tell our story to a hungry public ! end it was not easy for several reasons 1/ Because I have not been at all well 2/ I had only an online source of the soundtrack music so had to run that and record it as it played, but had to then talk over that with the script. All in all it just about worked
You will have noticed I have added background music to the blog page. Its a piece from Holsts "The Planets", its the Mars bringer of wars. I do hope you enjoy it, if not drop me comment or just alter your volume control Missed out on a full blog, maybe two of them due to not being very well. Not much to report I had an opportunity to go out to the observatory last night,With it being fairly clear sky .However it was extremely windy.and a harsh cold bite to it,So I never bothered. Thinking I may get worse rather than feel better if I did. So what I did do was a check on how many hits have been recorded on the website- in its first full 7days of existence. Quite surprising result here. It has had no fewer than 541 visits and of them 471 of them are classed as Unique! That's very encouraging News. It just shows how interesting people are finding the the website, Okay the content of the pages may not be growing at any great rate. My thoughts there are. I could keep adding semi worthless pieces but no-one would want that kind of thing it would become more like you find in most daily newspapers 95% or more is junk. So not a lot left for Content. Of course most of us astronomers who are reading this could argue that's much the same as to how the universe works anyway. as in- we can say we have the Hydrogen and the Helium (junk particles) but these are not not true atoms in this state as they still as yet lack the "electron" (Content ) that would then allow it to attach the Proton making them "true atoms" (content thats worth reading) And that being the case we then need them to be able to fuse together to make complex matter which is done by developing into stars(Blogs) for this to happen and fusion occur to make water (Websites) that we can drink in! and many stars will give us many new elements (internet) So that we now have a vast choice what to look at. and before we had that the element needed was Silicone which Stars were able to bond with hydrogen to form Iron. And from the Iron age onwards we have questioned in more and more ingenious ways what is up there in the night skies!!Sorry just having a little play around there,to justify my lack activity over these last few days :-) I Forgot to mention that as I was running a fun type competition, where you had to guess how many hits this website would have received. This being only for its first week of being in existence. The winner of this was Sam , aka Lightbucket Well done Sam your prize is almost in the post when we can stop the Banks around here from having holidays! I don't know its Only Easter, and they already have the Saturday and Sundays without a thing to do! "Only Joking " Lol. I hope it is clear over the next few nights, I may at least get to try out the new ccd imaging camera the ATK16 I have not yet tried this out in the dark. I imaged a nearby chimney pot and metal cowl recently with it. I achieved a good focus, and could clearly make out the rivet heads it had on it. I have also placed an" Alan Gee focal reducer/flattener" in- line in the imaging train here's hoping I can achieve a good focus onto infinity as well. If all goes well I will be able to try a messier object or two and learn more on how to image the night sky a little more. I will keep you informed of my progress if I have any.
