A nanday utopia

Nothing in my life prepared me for living with a nanday. The day we went to pick up our first nanday I was thinking in lines of a cage bird like a canary.  What we got was something more like a cross between a puppy and a toddler, So bright, so wonderful , so full of fun and OH SO LOUD!

But the screams were nothing compared to the love that flowed from this bird. He became my best friend and constant companion.My Zorro bird.

 Here I will tell you stories about his adventures and about a tragedy that almost took him from me. 

So here is to my Zorro. The best bird I have ever met.
 

 My mother-in-law had passed away from cancer.  It was a quick illness
taking her in a matter of three months.  She had lived ten miles away from
us.  Almost every day we saw her and she was such a strong part of our
lives.
     Almost broke because of the time we had taken off from work to be with
her, there would be few summer activities.  We were all depressed and the
summer loomed ahead long and bleak. Nothing left but memories of our
adventures with her every summer.
     Then a feathered angel came into our life.  A new adventure in a
summer where none were expected.  Our adventure's name is Zorro and he is a
Nanday Conure -- a beautiful green parrot with bright red legs and a black
head.
     From the day he came to our house he brightened our lives.  He took
our minds from the past and gave the children something to focus on.  We
overwhelmed him with love and he gave it back to us a hundred fold.
     His calls and greetings brighten our morning.  When I make my round to
give night time kisses to the kids, Zorro gives them kisses too.  He
watches the children through the window and is the first to give an alarm
if someone is crying or fighting.  He runs to the children when they are
hurt and will rub his head upon their cheeks.  He keeps me company whenever
I am home.  He makes us laugh with his antics and touches us all with his
friendship and loyalty.
     There are very few times in a person's life when a pet is more than a
pet.  There is a pet that is priceless and can never be replaced.  A pet
whose memory will live on long after they are gone.  To us, Zorro is that
pet.  I cannot help but think that my mother-in-law saw the sadness in our
house and helped guide our feathered angel to us.
     He is a dose of happiness every day and I am so glad he came into our
lives.
