History of Lucena City National High School
The Lucena City National High School started as Ibabang Dupay National High School (IDNHS) located at Ibabang Dupay Lucena City. It was founded on July 16, 1993 through the Republic Act 1192. It was initiated by Dr. Leonora Guerrero, division superintendent and with the help of Dr. Azucena Romulo, Asst. Division Superintendent, Mrs.Villabrosa, Elvira Razon Aranilla Elementary School (ERAES) principal, Mr. Ricardo Orinday and Mr. Rolando Ingles, Parent-Teachers Association (PTA) President. During the school years, Dr. Guerrero wants to change the school’s name as Science National High School but the students’ average is not fit to the standard of education. Based on the survey, the students can’t reach the average for the curriculum as Science High School and that gives way to stick with their principles.
The IDNHS has only one building with two classrooms donated by Cong. Jun Punzalan. At that time, the school ground is still a rice field and full of mud, they have their school canteen under the stairs and their comfort rooms were improvised. On 1993, the school has only three teachers; they are Mrs. Encomienda, Mr. Metierre and Mrs. Importante. The pioneer teachers get their salary at the Malacañang and it takes a long time for them to get their salaries with the great help of Mr. Ricardo Orinday. There are only 79 first year students that time. After a couple of months, Mrs. Encomienda left the school and substituted by Mrs. Filomena Bayani and Mrs. Mina Importante substituted by Mrs. Mayami David and Mrs. Lolita Santa Ana was the Officer-in-Charge, Division English Supervisor.
A year later, July 16 1994, Mrs. Epifania F. Carandang, Mr. Pablito R. Alay and Mrs. Evengeline Nieva were the new comer teachers who became a part of IDNHS faculty. Annually, the school has improvements with the help of City Government and National Government and other sectors.
On 1999, Mrs. Epifania F. Carandang became a school head teacher and after a year she was promoted as a school principal. Due to the population of the students who want to study at Ibabang Dupay National High School, a different extension from Cotta and Dalahican was build. The computer room and the laboratory were also constructed.
On 2002, through the resolution of the City Government, Ibabang Dupay National High School became Lucena City National High School.
After 3 years, another extension was built in Gulang-gulang and a total of 108 teachers.
At present, the Lucena City National High School has a Gymnasium constructed during the administration of Mayor Ramon Y. Talaga, Jr. There are already eight (8) buildings with the help of the different sectors. The school prides itself with over 10 years of dedication to providing quality education. From the vision of the school, it develops young people who are imbued with desirable traits, knowledgeable, productivity, skillful, creative and responsible students and citizens of the country nurtured by competent and effective teachers supported by the community.
