Submission Guidelines for anyone desiring to submit
their
zine, chapbook, journal or other independent publication to be circulated by the BNB.
|
|
|
We welcome submissions from poets and writers of all
skill levels.
Our specialized focus is on social
issues as told only by women poets and
writers.
We also publish zines and chapbooks of many, many other
topics. We accept submissions only from
members of the BNB.
We are simply a group of people who have informally
come
together to help one another achieve our goals and to
help make the world a better place to live in.

More Information
|
|
"Love + Feeding The Hungry + Stress-Free Living & Entertainment = BNB." That is our motto and the foundation of our non-commercial, not-for-profit publication. Two things will cause your submission to be immediately discarded faster than anything else: Numerous misspelled words (except in handwritten diary format poems) and any submission from non-members. Unlike print-on-demand publishers, publishers that charge reading fees and vanity publishers, we do not charge you anything, at any time to join our band. We are strictly an independent, not-for-profit effort attempting to help circulate positive creations in an effort to make the world a better place. Also, please keep in mind that most of the chapbooks that we accept are printed 90% 'as is' of all topics and tones including, but not limited to, poetry material about social issues and non-violent activism that society would rather ignore. We must boldly state that strikingly beautiful layout and astonishingly elegant page design is far more important than content because we want to print poetry that will be treasured, given as gifts and circulated rather than discarded. Some of the most important issues in the world have been ignored due to poor presentation. We believe poetry should be fresh, alive and perhaps even spontaneously written from your sincere feelings rather than limited to the rehearsed and reconstructed confines of rhythm, meter and the traditional styles of ancient celebrities who established so-called "rules" of writing poetry. The poetry may express pain, happiness, humor but it is most important that the emotions are sincere. In this way poetry can act as a vehicle giving voice to the unheard.
Wants:
We desire to receive all topics and tones of poetry from members no matter how juvenile (such as poems and witing for children) or how serious including, but not limited to, non-violent activism and civil disobedience poetry. Also, authors who are fluent in Spanish have the option of submitting a Spanish version of their English material provided that the English material accompanies it.
.
Does not want:
We do not accept translations of another author's work. We do not accept anything that promotes, rationalizes and/or justifies violence (including violent activism), ageism, ableism (which includes the physically and mentally disabled/challenged), classism, racism, sexism, or any form of discrimination against any person’s sexual orientation, religion or lack of religion.
.
Age Limit: We accept poetry written by people of all ages
but they must be age 18 and over and a current BNB member.
Type of paper used
to
print out chapbooks and zines:
We greatly prefer that BNB members use
100% post-consumer recycled paper, but it is never a
requirement. Most photocopy shops have paper available with
at
least some percentage of recycled content.
[Note:
The significant difference between recycled paper and 100%
post-consumer recycled paper is that 'recycled
paper' may be applied to paper that simply
contains 5% recycled paper.
Using
100% post-consumer recycled paper makes a monumental difference on the
impact of the environment.
Thank
you.]
Art/graphics:
B&W or color artwork of all mediums including photographs, cartoons, collages, rubberstamping, hand-punched patterns, individually hand imprinted paintings, or traces of the author's hand on the back covers, etc.
Ads: No
Advertisements.
Mandatory Blank
Pages:
Leave seven blank pages at the back of every zine or chapbook
that you submit. Two or three of those pages will include the
BNB, and DSAME mission statement. No more than one of those
pages will have the personal profile page of the BNB member who
will
duplicate your zine or chapbook. No BNB member may place
advertisements for their work on that profile page, but they may
place their photo, a self-description, their contact information, a
cut-out form for donations/catalog requests, a trace of their hand
on that page and anything that they want to say, even if it
includes
a statement which simply disassociates them from
your zine or chapbook's ideology. A statement of disassociation is not used to cause division amongst members, but it is actually used to enable each member to help one another, regardless of their differences, without sacrificing their beliefs. The other three or four
pages will be used to publish the 'Cycle of Love' thank you
pages. Those remaining three or four pages, if the BNB member
chooses, may also be used to print a list (or perhaps print the
actual receipts) of the preferably local alternative groups or
charities (that strictly feed the hungry) that have received
monetary donations as a result of the sale of the zine or
chapbook.
Page length for
zines
or chapbooks submitted: The minimum length, including
the
cover, is 12 pages (which is 3 sheets of paper folded in
half). The maximum length, including the cover, is 56 pages
(which is 16 sheets of paper folded in half). Please remember, if
you choose to submit a 12 page zine, 7 pages of the zine (excluding the outside back cover) must still
be blank, which will only give you five pages on which to
place your work. If you choose to have a 56 page zine, 7
pages
of the zine must still be blank, which will only give you 47 pages
on which to place your work. The outside back cover of your publication should contain work that you place on it.
Profile Pages and
Thank You Pages: Every BNB member who duplicates your zine or
chapbook will place a single profile page describing
their self and their publications at the back of your zine or
chapbook. Also, every BNB member who duplicates your
zine or chapbook may (but not necessarily) place one or two pages
of 'Cycle of Love' pages at the back of your zine or chapbook.
Cycle of Love pages simply list the names of organizations and
businesses who have been purchasing large quantities of various BNB
zines or chapbooks from that particular BNB member over the past
year. Cycle of Love pages are not advertisemnts. They do not contain photographs, product information nor coupons for people or business. They are simply a way to keep the cycle of love and support for community alive and flourishing.

It is important to realize that in our desire to give voice to the social issues in ignored areas of the world, we are currently open to easy submissions which are basically 'a diary style format of poetry writing.' We are also very interested in other experimental forms of poetry. Examples are poetry written in a comic strip, through surreal paintings, etc, the possibilities are limitless. We greatly encourage people in remote areas, rural farmland, bush country or tundra areas of the U.S.A., Canada and their territories to submit material.
