Arwen’s Despair
As she rode her horse serenely down the path
To her future,
She saw a vision,
Of a child running
Across the path
Into a man’s arms,
And the man swung the child in to his arms,
Laughing, a strange sound,
And the child looked at her,
Solemnly wearing her pendant
And them she knew
What she must do.
She turned back,
Leaving her kinfolk,
To the sound of Figwit calling her back.
She ran to her father,
Sheding her cloak,
And asked,
“Tell me what you have seen.”
And he said,
“Arwen.”
And she replied,
“What did you see?”
And her father said,
“I looked into your future and I saw death.”
But she said,
“You saw also life. You saw my son.”
When she retired to her room,
She read,
And suddenly tears fell like rocks onto the book’s open pages,
There were claws ripping at her soul,
Begging for her life,
Screaming, rushing in her ears.
And a bitter chill,
Until she could bear it no more.
The book fell from her hands.
And fell to the floor,
Making an earsplitting crash.
And her father took her hands in his,
Saying,
“The life of Eldar is leaving you.”
And she said,
“It is my choice. Whether by your will or not, there is no ship now which can bear me hence.”
And her father grieved.
Her future may be almost gone,
But all is not lost.
