About the Lothian and Borders Fire Brigade
|
The Lothian and Borders Fire Brigade was formed in 1824 as the Edinburgh Fire Engine Establishment. To date, it has a total of 67 appliances based in 13 wholetime (full time) fire stations and 23 retained ( part time) stations. It currently has 800 full time firefighters ( working in busier areas such as Edinburgh and Musselburgh) and 310 retained firefighters working in smaller towns such as Dunbar and Lauder as well as 150 support staff all protecting over 870,000 people. Its current firemaster is Brian Alloway. The current bunker gear (protective clothing) is gold with silver reflective stripes. The brigade HQ are at Laurston place which is the former Edinburgh Fire Station built in 1899.

Appliances

The brigade currently has 49 Water Tender Ladders ( basic trucks) 4 aerial ladder trucks , 1 Emergency Tender, 1 Heavy Rescue Vehicle, 2 Incident Support Units and 1 Control Unit. The Water Tender Ladders are very modern and are made by Scania. |
