You will LOVE IT i promise you!!)

I sat at my laptop, filling out a survey for no apparent reason except to escape boredom. I mean its not like I can send it in. I do need to keep a low profile, after all. I started back at the beginning and looked over my answers:

Full Name: Valkyrie Raisa Sharvani

Age: 17

Height: 5'10"

Weight: 132 lb.

Hair color: White blonde

Eye color: Light green

Month of Birth: February

Hobbies: Fencing, martial arts, kick boxing, lacrosse, yoga, drawing, and piano.

Education: Yet to finish high school

Current occupation: ....

Hmm, occupation...would you believe me if I told you I hunt supernatural, if not mythical beings by night and during weekends and attend high school every other waking moment? No? I didnt think so. But that doesnt matter because its better if people dont believe. It sure does make my job a lot easier.

I sighed and deleted the survey from my screen. Its sad how I cant even fill out a simple survey without lying on it. Sure, all Id typed was true, but what could I put under occupation that wouldnt make me sound like a nutcase? Nothing, thats what. Sometimes it gets old living a secret life. I jumped when I felt my cell phone vibrate in my pocket. I slipped the nearly paper thin phone out of my pocket and flipped it open.

"Yeah?" I asked into the phone, already knowing whod answer on the other end. Ah the joys of caller I.D.

"Val," My friend Saffron answered. I could picture her lying halfway off her bed upside down, her red hair reaching towards the floor. "Hi," She said.

"Hey. What are you up to?" I asked, shutting my computer closed after turning it off.

"Not much. Anyway I called to make sure youre coming to tonights raid," Saffron replied. I rolled my eyes.

"Of course Ill be there Saffron, I kind of have to be, seeing as Im the leader," I said cooly.

"Oh yeah! I forgot...after all, youve only been Leader for two months," Saffron said, rather stupidly. I scoffed. Youd think someone would be used to something after two months.

"Whatever, you know Ill be there. I really cant wait either, to be honest," I gushed, this was really one of the only topics I ever let myself get excited about.

"I know, I know....all you wanna do is kill, kill, kill," Saffron said.

"Hey its my job. I cant help it if I wanna rid the world of scum," I said, examining my fingernails. "Besides, you do the same damn thing," I laughed.

"Shut up," Saffron laughed too. It was true, Saffron and I were part of the same tribe. Our tribe consisted of my parents, my sisters, my brother, Saffron and her parents, and my two friends who were also twins, Taregan and Tanner. I was of course part of it too. We were known as the Sharvani Daredevils and we were one of the most revered out there. We often partnered up with other local tribes but we were always the ones in charge, Thats just the way its always been. I knew no other life than that of a huntress.

"Val," Saffron drew me out of my thoughts.

"Huh?" I asked.

"Whats it like being top dog?" Saffron asked. I sighed.

"You just never get sick of asking that question, do you?" I asked. Saffron stayed silent. "I know Ive explained this before but Im really not top dog until my mom decides I am. I mean, I am technically Head of the tribe, but I need to earn the respect of the matriarch before the tribe is completely under my control. You guys dont need to follow my orders at all," I said. Id never even wanted to become the leader, but I was the oldest female child in my family, so my fate had been determined as soon as Id been born.

"But we all do follow your orders," Saffron argued.

"Only because you want to," I pointed out.

"We trust you, and so does every other tribe. Besides, we wouldnt risk our lives all the time following your commands if we didnt respect and trust you. Its an honor being a daredevil, specially under you," Saffron said quietly. I could feel an inspirational speech coming on so I quickly interrupted.

"Thanks Saffron, but I really have to finish my homework," I lied. I loved that my tribe looked up to me despite my age and every stupid thing Id done, but the compliments made me extremely uncomfortable.

"You get more homework than me and I go to a private school. Why do they work you so hard when my teachers act like they dont give a damn?" I couldnt believe Saffron was complaining about not having homework.

"Maybe because they dont give a damn?" I laughed.

"Shut it. You know wed KILL to go to your school," Saffron said, speaking for herself, Taregan, and Tanner. I know that they would. They all go to Barcleay Prep, a snobby private school while my siblings and I go to a public school. I fought to go to a public school and Taite and Egan followed suit. Sanaa chose to go to Barcleay, she loved the idea of a private school. I hated the thought of a restrictive private school with uniforms. So I had complained and whined until my parents finally decided to let me go to public school for my high school career. No way was I going to wear a short skirt and knee high socks everyday! If I had known how strict the local high school had been, Id have gone to Barcleay with no hesitation. But I was stuck in public school for the rest of this year, then I was free.

"I dont know why you want to go to my school, its so strict and the people there suck. Ive been to your school, its way better than mine," I sighed. Even thinking about my school kind of brought me down.

"Because youre there! You have no idea how much we wish we could be at your school or for you to come to our school!" Saffron said sadly. We constantly had this conversation. I was sick of always explaining why Id gone to public school in the first place and it depressed me. I really didnt want to feel down tonight, when I would have to be completely alert and focused.

"Whatever. I really do have to go Saffron," I said apologetically. "See you tonight," I said.

"Yeah, cemetery, right?" Saffron asked.

"Yup, bye," I replied.

"Bye," I heard before I hung up. I stood up and glanced at the clock. 5:24 is what it read. I headed downstairs to our kitchen to find something to eat. The only other person in the house was Egan, my fourteen year old brother and our maids. Yes, were filthy rich. I ruffled his dark brown hair as I walked past him at the marble counter.

"Hey, excited for tonight?" Egan asked. He knew how much I loved the cemetery nights, we always went to the cemetery to hunt my favorite prey.

"You bet," I grinned before opening the fridge and examining the contents. I pulled out some turkey, lettuce, mayo, tomato, and black olives. I set my food on the counter with some bread before going about making a sandwich. "You want one?" I asked Egan, who merely nodded. I liked doing these things myself even though I could easily order one of our staff to do it.

"Thanks," Egan said when I handed him his sandwich a minute later. "Whats the tactic tonight, Miss Commander?" Egan asked.

"Same old," I replied with a mouth full. I have horrible manners.

"You mean brutally disembowel?" Egan smirked when I made a face.

"No, I mean find it, stalk it, kill it," I replied, referring to my approach. I didnt like to attack right when I found my prey. I would follow it for a while, study its habits and the way it moves, then Id pounce upon it, catching it completely by surprise. It worked rather well.

"Ah, that one. Tried and true," Egan smiled. Out of all my family, Egan and I were the closest, despite my being the oldest child and he being the youngest. We were both kind, brave, and loyal. Egans quiet though, while Im outspoken. Anyway, weve always shared a sort of bond. I smiled back.

"Yeah...do you know if Sanaa will show up tonight?" I asked, knowing my sixteen year old sister thinks that the family business comes second only to her love life. Lately shes been staying out late with boys and coming home with marks on her neck and half drunk. Its not like I didnt want her to have fun, its just that every night was a bit much. Plus I dont want her to get taken advantage of. Its not like she cant defend herself, I know she can, Ive seen the girl fight but getting your heart broken has nothing to do with how well you can beat the crap outta someone. I know that first hand. Egan frowned, he feels the same way I do about the situation.

"I dont know, she said something about a date," Egan said quietly. I rolled my eyes but didnt say anything else about the matter. Ill just have to talk to her later I guess.

"Well, were leaving as soon as the sun sets, so in a couple hours I guess," I told Egan as I looked out the window.

"Wanna play pool til then?" Egan asked as he cleaned up the counter.

"Sure," I replied, glad to have something to do. We headed down to the basement where we have a full bar, pool table, juke box, leather couches, a big screen, dart board, and foosball table. This room is basically for the kids, except the bar, which we arent supposed to use but of course we do anyway. I set up the balls in the rack while Egan got our cue sticks.

"Your ass is grass," I said menacingly.

"Right, bring it!" Egan laughed. We played one game in which we were evenly matched but Egan won in the end. We were both in good moods by the end of the game and pumped to go on a hunt.

"Come on, I think the others are home," I said as we walked up the stairs. I was right, the rest of my family except Sanaa was home and putting their coats in the front hall closet.

"Hey, you guys ready to kick ass?" Egan asked happily.
