Legion of Superferrets (L.O.S.) was started in 1989 by a woman named Rose Smith. Though we started in 1989, our first rescue was taken in January of 1990. Since then L.O.S. was committed to educating the public about the pet ferret. We currently have divisions throughout the Continental United States and into other countries. We are a non-profit organization who does both rescue work and public education, including an informational magazine published nationally and internationally bi-monthly.
Our objectives and goals:
1. To bring about a ferret friendly environment within the entire United States.
2. To educate the public about the pet ferret .
3. Improve the care and keeping of the pet ferret.
4. To endorse healthy ferrets.
L.O.S. has helped to legalize ferrets in several states, towns, cities, etc. We have also helped states to recognize the ferret's "pet" status and encouraged several states to list ferrets as "pets" in place of "exotic".
L.O.S. holds at least one ferret show a year to help raise money for it's division shelters, for other LOS Supported shelter or non-profit organizations and to serve the above four goals. LOS also does several non-profit seminars, information days and other events. To become a member of LOS, please contact the Vice President at dawnpsmith@earthlink.net.
