The Ta-Koda Gang!

This is a picture of Hannah (UKC/NAT/INT CH Ta-Koda's Star Fairy) and our little girl Annalyssa in Dec 2008. As you can see they are best pals already!

This pict was taken of my "young" dogs in July 2007 at the Silver Falls Kennel Club/BTCP B Match at the Evergreen Air Museum in McMinville,  Or. Doozer (far right) is the only one of these dogs that I didnt breed. I think they are a great base for my breeding program.

The dog in the middle of this pict is Hannah (UKC/NAT/INT CH Ta-Koda's Star Fairy)

The small picts (head shots) from left to right are Kahn (was place in a differnt home and has since passed away)(UKC CH Sunglo N Ta-Koda's Irish Whiskey), Birdie (UKC/NAT/INT CH. Ta-Koda's Song Bird Of Love), Handy, (now living in a pet home)(Ta-Koda's Dream Catcher), and Doozer (UKC/NAT/INT CH Thornthistle's Country Bumpkin, CGC).

Ta-Koda

The name Ta-Koda means "Friend to All" or "Friend to everyone" in several different Native American languages, including the Sioux, Dakota and Inuit Indian tribes. We felt that its meaning was very apropriate for the Bostons as they are a VERY people friendly breed.

The American Gentleman!

The Boston Terrier is a very fun, loving, and sometimes very active smaller sized dog. They can range from less than 10 lbs up to 25lbs, and any where in between. He was originally bred from crosses of the Bull Terrier, the Bulldog and the now extenct White English Terrier. He was officially recognised and accepted as a breed by AKC on Feb 27, 1893. The breed gained quickly in popularity and from 1905 till 1935 he was one of the most popular AKC breeds. He is consistently in the top 20 even to this day. Being a very popular house pet due to his small size and outgoing personality. He is great for both the elderly as well as children and all ages in between. He loves to play and can be "obsesive" about it, but he will also be happy to curl up next to you on the couch and watch TV all day. He is content just in being with you.

Our History with Boston Terriers!

We are located in a small town in the heart of the Willamette Valley, just south of Salem, Oregon. We have almost 5 acres here where we have Sheep, Llamas, and even a couple of Emu in additon to our dogs. There are actually 4 generations living here on the farm including my Grandparents, Parents, as well as our family. My grandparents actually bought the property in 1952, and it has been in the family ever since.

We have enjoyed having this wonderful breed for almost 20 years now. My mom actually traded some avon for a 5 month old BT puppy. We were hooked and a female soon joined him. We had 3 litters of pups from those 2 and it was a male pup from their second litter that became "my" first BT. I named him "Panda". He was born the night I graduated from High School, and that summer I took him everywhere with me. He even went to the County and State fairs where I was showing my sheep. At the State fair I even snuck him in to the Alabama concert, as they played the fair that year.

When I got pregnant with my son I was worried how Panda would react to the new "baby" in the family. I need not have worried. When my son was born Panda took one look at that baby and decided that what ever that was it was HIS! From that day on whenever you saw one the other was not far behind. One of the very last pictures ever taken of Panda was actually a pict of my son and down in the corner there was Panda.

We lost him at much too young an age, but he will live in our hearts forever. He was a very special dog, and I'm sure he will be waiting for me (or at least my son ) at the Rainbow Bridge.

(Pict developed a problem and will be replaced soon)

This was taken at about 6 months of age with our poodle "Suzy" in the background.

Our Puppy Policy

If you are considering getting a Boston there are several things that you want to make sure about before you buy a dog from anyone. There are 3 major health issues in this breed at the current time and there is health testing available for all 3 of these issues. A reputable breeder can and WILL test their breeding dogs for these issues. The BAER test is to make sure that the dog has hearing. The CERF test checks for a large number of problems with the eyes. The last thing is the Pettela test. Also a reputable breeder will sell pet puppies on spay/neuter contracts, and with limited registration. Not ever dog should be bred and this is the only way to make sure that doesn't happens. A pet puppy is just that a pet and should not be bred. This would include miss marked pups and pups who are not show quality.

We dont have litters very often, but when we do we are VERY selective in the homes that we place them into. We have put MANY hours of thought, love, time, and sometimes tears into these litters and want them to have the best homes possible.

While we know that being able to choose you new puppy from a litter can be a fun and exciting experience we want to ensure that our baby's are going into the "perfect" home for that particular baby, and so we do our best to match the personality of the puppy with their potential new owner. As a result please be prepared to answer a LOT of questions (see our "Questionnaire page). Everything from What you family experience is like (# of children, married, or single)? Do you live in an aparetment or home? Do you rent or own that home. We also want to know how familiar you are with this breed, have you ever had one before, and if so what happened to that dog? What other breeds have you had or do have? Do you have a vet that you have used in the past that we can contact? As well as how active your lifestyle is. Whether you are "sit at home and watch TV" types? or whether you are active "outdoors people" who like to spend time exploring the great wilds of the world!! All of these things will help us to match you up with your PERFECT puppy!! We do our best to place all of our baby's in homes where they will be loved and appreciated for all of their days.

A Boston, like any dog (or any pet for that matter) is NOT DISPOSABLE, and should not be treated as such!! However, while all of the above is designed to help you get a puppy that you will Love and Adore for all of their life, we do understand that sometimes things happen in life that make it difficult for you to continue to keep your beloved pet, so we have a lifetime "WELCOME HOME" policy and if at ANY time during the dogs life you find yourself in a situation where you are unable to care for the dog, we will welcome it back and/or help you to place your baby in a home situation similar to the one it has been used to. If you do need to find a new home for your baby we expect that you will contact us prior to finding him a new home. Either way we want to know what happens with all our baby's and we do expect updates often!!

Bostons are meant to be Loved, Adored, and "Worshiped" (in their opinion!). They consider you their Food Distribution expert, and Ball Launcher! They can be quite active dogs, and they LOVE to play. They also have an average lifespan of between 12 and 15 years. So if you don't feel you are ready for this type of long term commitment please reconsider getting one.

We do also get in adult dogs on occasion. Often these dogs come housebroken. and will be spayed or neutered. If you are willing to open your heart and home to a "Pre-Loved" Boston you will not have to go through all the discomforts of Puppy hood (you know the wet carpet, the "chewed up" house shoes, etc). If you think a Pre Loved Boston might be right for you please let us know and we will be happy to add you to our waiting list. We may also be able to put you in contact with someone who has one available.

If you feel that you have what it takes to provide that PERFECT home for one of our babys please fill out our Puppy Questionair and I will be happy to get back to you. PLEASE BE SURE AND INCLUDE A PHONE NUMBER AND/OR EMAIL ADDRESS! You can find out exactly what is or is coming available on our "For Sale" page.
