Hollywood director William Desmond Taylor was murdered Feb. 2, 1922 and the crime went unsolved. Eight years later Russo Rinaldo confessed to the murder and was questioned by the police.

 

His estranged wife, Alice Rinaldo (shown here), told police that her husband knew nothing about the case except what he had read in the papers.

.....or not although the newspapers ran this photo as Denis, my friend Bruce Long indicates that, the man in the picture is a mental patient, who was suspected of being Denis… below is part of the note from Bruce. Marilyn

 

… “about the photo identified as "DENIS TANNER, BROTHER OF WILLIAM DESMOND TAYLOR (WITH BROTHER SHOWN  AT FAR RIGHT)".  As indicated in the text (and I have a clipping or two on this individual), this was a patient in a mental hospital who was suspected of being Denis.  But I never saw anything to convince me that the identity was confirmed.”

 

Of course, the photo below, next to Ada, was indeed Denis.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

	ADA DEANNE-TANNER
	It was determined that William Desmond Taylor's real name was actually William Deanne-Tanner. Shown here is Mrs. Ada Deanne-Tanner, the wife of his brother Denis. She brought to police pictures and handwriting samples of her long-missing husband and proved to them that he was not the Taylor valet, Edward Sands, who was being sought for questioning.

Birth Certificate of William Cunningham Deane Tanner, born April 26, 1872 in Carlow, Ireland. The USA Library of Congress has the incorrect date for Taylor’s birth. Taylor was 49 years old at the time of his murder.

 

1905
