THE LONG RIDE 2007

Mission: To invite motor cycle riders throughout Australia to participate in the inaugural Long Ride 2007 to raise funds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
Reason: Do you need to do something different, if so then get on your bike and join us in exploring the great open roads to Darwin.  If you need a reason, then here is the opportunity to contribute your time and friendship to a great many people.
Contribution: All riders participating are requested to donate $50.00 to the Royal Flying Doctor Service.  This donation will give you unlimited time on the road and a sore bum, you will make a lot of new friends, visit towns that you would possibly never visit, meet locals who will talk your head off, swap stories and tell as many tall stories as you will, drink with like minded riders in very old pubs.
In April 2007, the Long Ride will begin.  It will begin with an early breakfast at home in the suburbs, a quick check of the bike and gear, a kiss and a wave to those left at home.  Along the way out of town, the rider will join others eager for the open road and the adventure to unfold.  Across Australia, on different days depending on the route, riders will gather gradually to a great number on the Long Ride to Darwin.  Riders from both the Southern and Eastern States will come together at The Three Ways and then join up with riders from Western Australia at Katherine the following day.  When all are assembled the Long Riders will mass for the final leg to Darwin and a deserved Darwin welcome and some revelry.
The Route
There are 4 main routes which will enable a rider from any where in Australia to pick up with a group along the way.  Details of the assigned routes are enclosed on the next few pages.
Entry
To participate in the Long Ride, riders are encouraged to donate $50.00 to the Royal Flying Doctor Service www.flyingdoctors.org and write Long Ride in the comments box at the bottom of that donation page.  This donation ensures your participation and most welcome company on the Long Ride.   What do you get for your money?  You get the chance to participate, to make new friends, visit new places, ride new roads, swap stories to strangers who will soon be friends, tell tall stories, drink a bit and enjoy the ride.
Accommodation
Accommodation along the way will be the responsibility of each individual rider.  The best method of research for accommodation along your route would be to consult with Lynette Williams at lynettewilliams66@hotmail.com.  Book in advance to ensure a good bed after a hard days ride or pack your swag and camp under the stars.
Fuel
Each route has ample service stations or fuel services for the most thirsty of bikes or bikes with small fuel tank capacity.

Fund  Raising Activities

All riders are encouraged to raise at least $1000 for the Royal Flying Doctor Service through fund raising activities.  Donations are tax deductible.  This ride is a non profit ride and 100 per cent of all money raised will go to the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS).  The RFDS provides an invaluable service for people who live and work in the remote areas of Australia as well as providing essential health services for travellers through the outback.

Above all, road safety is the highest priority and the Long Ride also helps to promote motorcycling in Australia.  This is a great opportunity to involve yourself in a worthwhile cause and enjoy the freedom of riding through the outback.  So if you have a few weeks that you can spare in April 2007, get the bike ready, get a few of your mates together and join the Long Ride 2007.  If you never go, you’ll never, never know.
