House of Games 2.0

David L. Cuatt  Game Designs

Welcome to my home page, which is primarily a showcase for my past, present and

future gaming projects. I have been an avid gamer since the 1960's, and had a stack

of at least 50 boardgames ( lots of Avalon Hill ) even in High School. In recent years

I have been lucky enough to have a regular circle of gaming companions, as well as

belonging to a club ( Schenectady Wargamers Association ) with regular monthly meets.

This site will be a work in progress, and will reflect games I have published, those I am

currently working on, maybe some free rules for miniatures, and whatever else I have

time to post. Special thanks to Kerry Anderson of Microgame Design Group and Jason

Kempton of Fiery Dragon Productions.

The Marcher Lords

This is the original edition of The Marcher Lords, published by Microgame Design Group

in 2003. It was the first game I ever had published, and sadly was also my last with MDG

who later went out of business. The game features area movement, randomly drawn

reinforcements, and an interesting system of activation. Historically, it covers the period

directly after the Battle of Hastings (1066) when the Normans began the long, slow process

of conquering the kingdoms of Wales.

The Marcher Lords

The Marcher Lords was reissued in 2005 by Fiery Dragon Productions. This new

version was almost identical to the original in terms of gameplay, but featured

better graphics and components and came packaged in a unique tin box. The game was

reprinted in late 2007 with even better quality counters, but the tin boxes were replaced

by more typical cardboard ones.

Army of Ireland

My second published design, also with Fiery Dragon Productions, was released

in the summer of 2008. Very different from The Marcher Lords, this is a hex-based

game representing a specific battle. In 1866, American Civil War veterans of Irish

descent invaded Canada  and the Battle of Ridgeway was the largest battle of that

incursion.  I always wanted to do a hex-based game like the ones I grew up playing

and this is the result, although it does have some more modern elements like

chit pull activations.

Current project

Put down the history books and grab a gore-splattered lab smock because

my newest game is about mad scientists re-animating the dead and sending

the monsters lumbering off to terrorize the town. This game is only in very

early playtesting at this point, but feedback has been very good so far. I'll

post more about it including some pics when I get some.  Working title is:

"Attack of the Mad Scientists".
