History: Two years after Annette Marley gave birth to Cojin, not ever finding out who his father was, she found herself pregnant again.  Only this time, she did know who the father was.  He was a man named Halen Crucien, and she fancied herself in love with him.  Naturally the two got married, and Annette had her second child, Cain.

Being of the nature that she was, Annette couldn’t help but feel unfulfilled by being with only one man for so long.  And she’d met someone else who, for whatever reason, had her captivated: Vail Malvakai.  Vail’s work was top secret, and he had expressed that he could tell her almost nothing of what he did at his laboratory.  She accepted this.  But when she became pregnant again, this time with Vail’s daughter, the man had a request.  He wanted to use his and Annette’s unborn child for an experiment of sorts.  Knowing that she would refuse, he submitted to her that he promised to continue to keep their relationship from Halen as long as Annette cooperated with the research.  He also promised that no harm would come to the child.

Annette agreed, but Vail wanted more.  He wanted to run the same experiment on one of Annette’s other children.  A separate test, but hopefully with the same results.  Annette had to agree, and found herself allowing Cojin to be used.  Cojin never got along with the rest of the family, and Halen didn’t even think of him as a son.  If something were to happen to one of her children, she knew that Halen would be far more resentful toward her if it were Cain.

So Vail’s potential Anti-Mako breakthrough began, and small doses (vaccinations, in a way) of Annoxillin were given to Cojin, and Eriya (the third child) both before and after she was born, on a regular basis.  The chemical was given in their food, so that no one in the household except Annette knew what was going on.  Seven years of the treatment passed (in which Cojin found Eriya to be the only one in the family he could bond with), and so the experiment should have ended, according to Vail’s promise.  Of course, Vail wasn’t one to keep his word, and instead of stopping there, he kidnapped the children and moved his secret branch of Shinra to a new location.

Annette knew that there was nothing to be done.  Halen resented her for the loss of his daughter, but forgave her eventually and they moved on.

Cojin and Eriya, on the other hand, were to be given full Annoxillin transfusions, and made into weapons to serve Vail’s purposes.  The procedure happened just as it should, but because of the resistance from the children, it failed.  They did not have the access to Anti-Mako energy that Annoxillin was supposed to grant them.  Furious at them, Vail used them for any other experimentation possible.  He had their hearts replaced with Annoxillin pumps so they would survive, spliced their genes, replaced limbs with other things, created add-ons, and more; and he instructed his staff to make every little prod as unpleasant as possible.  They used no anesthesia where anesthesia was necessary, and usually had Cojin watch his sister’s suffering when he wasn’t undergoing his own.

An undetermined amount of time later, when all was said and done, and the siblings were of no more use, Vail decided to dispose of them without killing them.  Both of them would have severely diminished memory, in order to thoroughly de-humanize them.  And Cojin was sentenced to eternal sleep.

He woke up, however, at the surge in the Planet during Jenova’s near release.  He had no clue as to how long it had been, but didn’t seem to have aged at all since he was put there.  He had only flashes of scenes and vague feelings for memories, but it was enough to squeeze out nearly every ounce of compassion and goodness he may have had.  He was bitter and full of hatred, and desired only to see humanity suffer and die.

Well, after roaming about, killing people and such, for a few years, he eventually made his way to Llanon.  He found the hotel very interesting, and full of exactly the kind of people he needed to get rid of.  He succeeded in killing off Daruma and Sadie.  He also found himself reunited with his sister, and was able to feel love and compassion, if for her alone.

He became obsessed with the idea of releasing Jenova, at one point, and therefore gained obsession for one of Her puppets, Sami.  Jenova betrayed him in the end, and Sami was freed, but Cojin’s obsession remained.  It drove Eriya away from him and into the arms of a regular old human named Renton.  Cojin still wanted to kill everyone, but decided that Renton was at the top of his list, as well as Bella (Sami’s lover.)

His plans (if they could be called that) were interrupted when Vail found the hotel, seeking something entirely different, but finding his daughter and her brother instead.  He took Cojin back into his possession (in order to get Eriya to work for him) and Cojin found himself, once again, surrounded in the nightmare of his past.  He was stuck there for quite a while, completely alone in his room.  Jerome (who he had messed around with and given Sami's memories) stayed with him for a while, as did Hazel, toward the end of his stay.  Eventually, they broke out, and Cojin's mental state had degenerated even further.

When Cojin found out that Bella and Sami were expecting a little bundle of joy, he jumped at the opportunity to obtain such a jewel.  Andromeda, working on her own agenda, obliged by turning him into a female and moving the unborn child from Bella to Cojin (or rather, Cojina)...

Other Info: Cojin’s weakness to water comes from the fact that he’s a lightning elemental.  He also appears slightly younger than he is because he didn’t age during the time he was ‘sleeping.’  (He may not even age much at all, because of the Annoxillin.)
