Icons && Avatars
So, what are icons and avatars?? They are basically the square pictures used on AIM ((as well as other instant messaging programs)) and message boards to help identify the user and give them the chance to show a little bit about themselves without actually saying a word. Another common use for icons and avatars is decoration. Many people use them to decorate their blogs ((Xanga, Myspace...)) and websites.
