Little John Football Club

est. 2004

Welcome

We would like to express a warm welcome to those of you visiting the website for the first time.  We were an inter-mural football team from the University of Hertfordshire, situated in Hatfield, England. We were composed mainly of students whom undertook the Sports & Exercise Science course, but there were also students from other courses in the team. The Little John Football Club was founded in 2004, but sadly folded in 2005, after a successful year and a half.  However, the memory will live on forever!

It has just been announced that Little John F.C. will be folding this year.  This is due to the fact that the students wish to concentrate on working hard in this, their final year.  They have decided that the football commitments were too much.  Nevertheless, a few members of the squad have decided that they might try their luck in the university team.  We wish them good luck!  It has been a memorable year and a half for everyone associated with the team, but now like all good things, it has come to an end.

Little John won the league title by beating some team 2-1 in the final.  Mike Howard and Nathan Puttay scored the goals.  Craig Jones, the keeper, got smashed in the throat and the game was stopped for 10 minutes to allow him to recover when it seemed a substituation might have had to be made.  Nevertheless he battled on and perfomed well, pulling off a couple of good saves to maintain the 2-1 scoreline.

Little John F.C. beat PSV Hangover to clinch the league trophy is a frustrating match which was decided on penalties after the game finished 2-2 AET.  The consistent Ross Becko scored the winning penalty with Craig Jones pulling off a great save.

Shocking news for everyone associated with Little John F.C. This weeks match against UH Chinese had to be abbandoned at 2-2 due to a brawl which was a result of frustration from some of the referee's decisions (Neil Watson). Both teams were threatened to be thrown out of the league, but some good persuasion by Nick Moon, saw 3 points being deducted instead and no points for the draw.

The new season is about to start for everyone at Little John F.C. and expectatations are high after winning the cup competition in the spring. Since then, two of our key players, Nick Moon and Mickey Brown have been poached from us by the university team and Nick Poulakis our influential right-winger has also taken a back seat in order to concentrate more on his athletics career. Fortunately, we have made a few interesting signings over the summer.

Little John F.C. won the first ever Intra-mural cup competition! They will be the first team to have their name engraved on the silver cup. All the players would like to thank Geoff 'gaffer' Bagshaw for organising the team, it has been a great laugh this year. Hopefully, the team will continue in their winning form next year if the players wish to carry on. "Good luck in the exams everyone and i'll see you at the ball!"

Rabinowitz has retired from Little John F.C. as he was unhappy with the lack of first team opportunities. We wish him good luck with his new role as wide receiver for the University's American Football Team! We would also like to unveil three new signings, Mike Howard, Jim Hawes and Craig Jones, good luck in the cup competition!
