When I was about 2 or 3 years old, my mom got me 2 bunnies, Rab and Bit. (rabbit) They where crosses breed for snake food, =[ Rab was a doe and Bit was a buck. Soon to find out, they had babies, thats pretty much when i liked raising rabbits. All the cute baby bunnies running around.
I never had intentions to show a rabbit, just a pet. In March 2008, My friend Alex decided to get another breeding pair of Jersey Woolies since the other pair she had passed away due to an illness. And she told me that she was going to go look at some rabbits, and asked if i wanted to go with her, I said yeah why not, I've never seen this breed before this way i can go see what they are like.
So, we went to bellingham to Ashley Felton's house where her rabbitry is of course. And i walked in her barn and i said," holy cow! i have never in my life seen a barn full of so many rabbits!" Thats where it all begun. I saw the Woolies and just loved them! Then i saw a little senior buck that i just feel in love with. I kept on telling Alex get him! Get him!! but i never thought he would be mine.. I got home that day, and i begged my mom for this rabbit. Finally she gave in when I told her that i would pay for it and when his cage started to stink i would clean out his cage. Just Hoppin's Apollo, AKA "Apollo" was a senior opal buck. I had him for a couple months and his undercoat was white instead of slate blue. I was heart broken when i had to get rid of my new best friend. I really didnt want to but if i wanted to show them and i had really no room for him when im located in an appartment in Down Town Lynden. Then I had an empty cage at my dads house out in Custer, so i kept him there. Then I got a breeding pair from Ashley. A little Jr. Blue Doe and a little Jr. Black Buck. I just love them. The first show i went to(i had Apollo tag along with Ashley) 2008 washington state convention, My little doe came home with a leg of grand champion from BOB, and my little buck did ok but not as good. Thats when i knew this showing rabbit thing was ment to be. I enjoyed it and it was fun!
RABBITRY INFORMATION:
Since i am in the process of just starting a rabbitry, i do not have alot of rabbits. I have Jersey Woolies at my moms house in Lynden and I have my Mini Lops at my dads in Custer. Not to far of a driving distance. Since at the moment I am living in an apartment[moving soon hopefully!] i only have 3 jersey woolies 1 buck and 2 does. when i move im hoping to get lots more! beware Ashley!! At my dads where i do not live, I have my Mini Lops. Since my dad lives on land, i have more rabbits. =] I have 3 does and 1 buck. I am either getting another doe or another buck, having troubles choosing. I am NOT a big rabbitry but i will have animals avalible most of the year due to breeding and not needing a curtain animal.
