This day saw another important event in the history of the Lions Subbuteo Club (LSC). The very first Future was held. But it is just more than just a Future Challenge as there were many first for the Club.
First off, LSC has been working very hard with the Singapore Sports Council (SSC), the governing body of all sports in the country to bring back the game. What used to be held at homes of members, this Challenge was held in one of the Sports Hall that is owned by the SSC, Tampines Sports Hall.
This allowed the LSC to gain more exposure as well as provide another level of professionalism and integrity to the Club’s objectives and goals.
The Future also saw its very first woman participant, as well as the very first regional player to fly down to
There were nine players divided into two groups, with the two tops seeds (Christopher and Erfandy) heading each group.
The qualifying games got underway and very soon the usual suspects were at their best once again.
Christopher finished Group 1 undefeated with Kok Wee finishing off as the runner up.
However, with little known of Antonio Carabillo, the gentleman turned out a sizzling performance by topping Group 2 undefeated . The runner-up qualifying spot turned out to be an extremely close call with Erfandy just edging out Yazrin by scoring more goals.
Although Seow Yin finished with the wooden spoon in Group 2, there were many encouraging moments that she showed moments of brilliance.
The semi-finals saw good matches too.
The first semi-final was Christopher versus Erfandy. This was a repeat of the last Satellite final. However, the score was somewhat a flattering scoreline with Christopher entering the final by beating his opponent 4-2.
But the second semi-final served up an upset. The much favoured Antonio Carabillo was narrowly beaten by Tan Kok Wee for a 1-2 scoreline.
So the third and forth placing saw a similar match up Erfandy Kusnsdi and Anto€nio Carabillo contesting for then second time on the day itself. However, when the final whistle came, Erfandy emerged the winner by beating Atonio Carabillio, 4 to 3 in a thrilling match.
The final was also another match up with the same duo that played each other earlier in the day. With Christopher having a physcological advantage having beaten him in that match. But it was a closer match than before with Kok Wee showing his arsenal of deft touches and sharp reading of the game. Alas, it was still not enough for Christopher to clinch his second champion title and first Future Challenge by a 2-0 margin.
This is what the LSC hopes to be a springboard to bringing back this wonderful game. There were varied interest in the game throughout the day with enquires and people speaking of knowing about the game back in the eighties. This is extremely encouraging and we look forward to see how far we can take the game.
A regional tournament in a year? A

We are hitting the headlines again! This time, we are announcing the twinnings between our club and 3 others from England, USA and Canada. The following excerpts were taken from SCSC website announcing the twinning of our clubs. Read on:
"The Southern California Subbuteo Club is proud to announce that they are "twinning" with three other table soccer clubs:
"This is an exciting opportunity for us to form relationships with these three dynamic clubs," said the SCSC secretary Simon Hutchinson. "I think we all realize that for this sport to become more popular we need to think beyond our local areas. It also formalizes some of the unofficial relationships we have with the members of these clubs."
Gurmeet Khaira of the WCTSC was enthusiastic about the twinning. "We are delighted to have forged a strong bond of international friendship with Southern California Subbuteo Club, USA," he said. "With these new relationship formed, support for the game is well maintained and expanded."
Mike Parnaby, NETFA club president, explained "Our aim is to make the North East Table Football Alliance a dynamic, exciting and friendly place to play our sport. In the spirit of friendship we are delighted to create a formal link between our club and the South California Subbuteo Club. In an ever shrinking world, we felt it was important to foster an international link. Hopefully the two clubs can develop the relationship further to enhance the table football experience of all involved."
"We are delighted. Lions Subbuteo Club is honored to be associated with another club from across the continent," said Erfandy Kusnadi of the LSC. "It is hoped that from this partnership, both clubs could benefit from each other through exchange of information, knowledge and ideas."
The LSC includes a former member of the SCSC who emigrated to Singapore in 2006.
"Ric Rivas was a stalwart of the local Subbuteo scene," Hutchinson told us. "He was so enthusiastic about the game he would always turn up for every meeting early. He is now a member of the Singapore Lions and it makes the twinning of our two clubs a bit special.""

What a week is has been for the Lions Subbuteo Club!
Not only did we have the honour to entertain Antonio earlier in the week, as the Subbuteo Aficionado had to travel to KL for business, he also had the opportunity to meet up with the famed, Edwin at last.
Due to a tight time schedule, the meet up was more of a discussion about what both sides are doing and are able to do together in the near future.
It must be mentioned that Edwin is also a reporter for the local paper and Subbuteo was highlighted in the weekend issue of New Straits Times. This will certainly provide the much needed exposure for the promotion of the game in Malaysia.
We certainly wish Edwin all the best on his crusade in bringing back this fantastic game back in Malaysia.

The Lions Subbuteo Club saw another foreign invasion into its lair this week. This time, the individual hailed from another major city in Asia, Hong Kong. Mr Antonio Carabillo, an Italian residing in Asia for many years came to know about the LSC through FISTF.
Having played the game back in Italy, his passion for the game never dwindled even with age catching up. His love for the game is so immensed, that he has not only just ordered his first professional set costing a staggering 120€ (in his much loved Palermo colours), he has in his collection, the limited edition of the Subbuteo Boxed set with a price tag of £450! Now that's passion for you!
Having traveled to Singapore many times, Antonio is no stranger to the island. Meeting up with him at Sim Lim Square, we proceeded to the LSC lair without delay.
Armed with a 3D Subbuteo set of, what else, Palermo team, there was little time wasted in getting down to the action after showing Antonio the Subbuteo Aficionado's collection.
Even after many years away from the game, Antonio's exquiste skills never did really leave him. Playing the way as most Italians would played, Antonio's style of play is one of speed. Only the lack of pratice prevented Antonio from conquering the pitch.
The first match ended with the Subbuteo Aficionado taking the victory 3-2 in a very close game. Once again, the final touch eluded Antonio, very evident of lack of match practice.
After a much needed rest and friendly banter over isotonic, another match ensued. This time with a better understanding of each other playing methods and techniques, both players played out the match, inclusive of extra time, to a goaless evens all. Penalties decided the outcome and the Subbuteo Aficionado came up tops.
It was obvious that Antonio was not happy with the outcome and he promised that there will certainly be a re-match once his 120€ team arrives.
The Subuteo Aficionado gave Antonio a more than happy invitation for a rematch in the very near future. In fact Antonio has been in constant contact with Subbuteo Aficionado till today.
See pics of the meet up in the pic section of this website.

Our first gathering after the much anticipated LSC Satellite saw only a handful of enthusiasts turning up. Ric, Wee Lik, Kok Wee and Alvin along with yours truly were on hand for the few games available against each other.
It was evident that most of us were short of match practice. Misplaced shots, weak goal tending and wayward placement were just some of the many areas that would need to be regained. And this can only be achieved with regular gatherings.
In order to ensure that the enthusiasm is maintained, we will endavour to provide a whole calendar year of events and gatherings so that members can plan their own activities around these events and gatherings.
There will also be a minimum attendance to ensure that the gatherings, match practices and events are fruitful. This will also ensure a justifiable point ranking system.
If the LSC is to be a shining example for the rest of
If you have any ideas or comments and inputs to improve, please do not hesitate to contact me as we carry on to build on bringing this game back into the limelight.
Back to the gathering…..all was not lost as there was some good exchange of ideas as to how LSC can reach out to the public. I thank those that were able to make contribute.
Here’s another website for you to check out; www.subbuteonews.com.
So till our next meeting, all the best!

Today the Lions Subbuteo Club (LSC) witnessed what would be hopefully many more to come, its first (Ric Rivas not inclusive!) foreign visitor to the PP Stadium. It came in the form of a certain Mr Dave Butler of the Huntingdon Subbuteo Association (HSA),
But before we get down to the match, a little history of Dave and HSA. The club was formed in 1988 and has a current membership of 19. Dave, ranked 746th on FISTF list, has not only a knack for traveling around the world but more importantly seeking to quench his blood thirst for International Subbuteo action.
His travels have taken him to South America (you can read his exploits on their club's website) and recently to
Making
Although being delayed by the ferry from Batam, it did not derail his plans of playing his very first subbuteo game in the region.
It was delightful to see how well Dave and Christine embraced themselves seamlessly into the
Anyway, back to the crux of the matter. The game between Dave and Christopher saw both sides giving their best to a closely fought match. Christopher fired the first salvo that saw Dave making a great save to deny the game its very first goal. But there after, the momentum swung in Dave’s favour with him applying the pressure on Christopher with many of his deft touches and excellent reading of the game.
Dave controlled most of the match and had just as many opportunities to put the game away and safely into his nifty pouch that hung around his waist the whole evening. But it was either his finishing that let him down or Christopher’s goalkeeping skills weaving its magic that saw out the game in a stalemate during normal time.
Extra time loomed and both players did whatever they could to break the deadlock. Eventually, it took just a lapse of concentration from Dave that allowed Christopher to sneak in a weak goal right at the death of extra time.
Final score 1-0 in favour of Christopher. Check out the hilarious photo in our album!
The Lions Subbuteo Club inaugural Satellite saw a total of nine payers challenge for the glory of being crowned the club’s first ever champion.
Divided into two groups, Group A was considered the Group-of-Death with seeded Ric Rivas, Erfandy, Samuel, Liyuan and Christopher do battle for only the top two spots. Group B was not an easy group as well with Yazrin, Kok Wee, Wee Lik and Alvin vying for the other two semi final spots.
Although the group stages concluded without much surprises or upsets, it was truly a well played qualifying stage. All top four finished with equal points with only goal difference separating the winners and runner-ups in their groups respectively.
Winners of Group A and B were Erfandy and Kok Wee respectively. Christopher and Yazrin completed the semi final round up. However, with an emergency, Yazrin could not carry on with to the semi final round and his semi final place was awarded to Wee Lik.
The first semi final saw a one sided affair with Efrandy crushing Wee Lik 5-0. The second semi final saw a very close encounter between Kok Wee and Christopher. Both players played to a 1-1 draw in normal time. Extra time was played with both players still unable to break the deadlock. Thus penalties ensued. It was also a close affair with Christopher seeing off Kok Wee with a narrowness of a 1-0 win in the shootout.
So the final will see a replay of an earlier qualifying group match Erfandy and Christopher (that ended in a 1-1 draw). Before the final kicked off, the third and forth placing match saw Kok Wee claim third spot by beating Wee Lik 1-0.
The final saw Erfandy and Christopher squaring off in what was a classic game of Subbuteo that will be mentioned time and time again. As always, encounters between the two have always produce tight score lines, fantastic goals and a nail biting finish.
Christopher rushed off to a 2-0 lead only to have Erfandy narrow the margin to 2-1 at halftime. The second half saw Erfandy coming back strongly and finally being rewarded with an equaliser. But it took a superb taken goal from Christopher to put him back in the lead.
With only seconds remain, Erfandy was unable to convert a golden opportunity to take the match into extra time and thus allowing Christopher to hang for the win. Final score 3-2.
LSC would like to thank all its participants for their dedication and look forward to having its next FISTF competition. The Club would also like to thank FISTF for it tremendous support and hope that there will be more FISTF sanctioned events in the future.

Hello All!
Behold the poster for the Satellite! =)

The raining season starts!
Even though with an early afternoon downpour, it did not dampen the hearts of 5 individuals that weathered the harsh conditions to make for another great Lions Subbuteo Club gathering.
It was a closely contested event this time round with the 3 top players finishing off with equal ppoints and only separated by goal difference. This only goes to the show the narrowing of the gap in terms of playing skills. This is definitely a good sign for the club's ambition to be made known on the global map.
Christopher gained top spot with Yazrin taking second wihle Kok Wee rounded off the podium finish. This is the last gathering before the club's first ever Satellite.
The official launch of the Lions Subbuteo Club webiste was also announced. This portal will allow international access to the club's happenings.
Stay tuned for the report on the Satellite right here!

Another great weekend of Lions Subbuteo Club gathering.
Thanks to Erfandy, the SLSC had the privilege of hosting two different nationals trying their hand at the game at the PP Subbuteo Stadium.
Edwin and Fei Liyuan are from India and the People's Republic of China, respectively. Just like Erfandy, both of them are Engineers with the STMicroelectronics.
Even thought both were somewhat wet behind the ears, they showed immense enthusium and some good touches. The Club hopes that we will have the two of them on board SLSC in the near future.
Apart from the above, Kok Wee and Wee Lik also took time out to get up to speed with their flicking skills.
Check out the pictures in the "See us in action" page.
