My sister, Stephanie, and her beau, David, became engaged in February of 2001 and were married in February of 2002. They are, in my opinion, the cutest newlyweds I have ever seen! Perhaps I am a tad bit biased though! :) They are both very special people in my life.

My sister wrote the following:

How we met: David and I met at a small, Bible-believing church where my family and I attended at the time. He was the Sunday school teacher and I an attentive listener! (Sundays were always a BIG highlight of the week for me!) David, an avid reader himself, in time discovered my interest in reading and began to bring in books (his favorites, by the way!) for me to read. We would then talk and discuss what we liked about the books we each had read. We also began corresponding through letters. Thus, our friendship began!

How we became engaged: We sort of knew before we were engaged that we wanted to be married to one another. About two or three weeks before he did officially ask the big question, he asked me a smaller question (that was just as exciting as the big question!) that pertained to my engagement ring, and went something like this: "If I were to buy you a ring, what kind would you like?" So, I did sort of suspect he was going to ask me, but I still was very surprised when he finally did.

David proposed in a very sweet way by taking me out to dinner on a Friday evening (we usually would spend Friday evenings together). After dinner, we were in the parking lot getting ready to leave the Italian restaurant we ate at when he gave me a cute little teddy bear that held my engagement ring in the flower bouquet of the bear's hands. He told me that he loved me, and asked me if I would marry him. The rest, as they say, is history!

As unto the bow the cord is,
So unto the man is the woman;
Though she bends him, she obeys him,
Though she draws him, yet she follows;
Useless without each other!

Hiawatha's Wooing
By H. W. Longfellow

~

"Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
"For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
"Therefore, as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
"Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
"That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
"That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
"So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.
"For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:
"For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.
"For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and they two shall be one flesh.
"This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church. "Nevertheless, let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband."

Ephesians 5:22-33
