-A Website Dedicated To Plants That Bite Back!-

The Aim Of This Website

This website is dedicated to Carnivorous Plants.

These plants have the ability to lure, trap, kill and digest animals (mostly insects) and make a great addition to any garden. Most people think that Carnivorous Plants or for short, 'CPs' are hard to grow. This is a myth as it isn't true when you know the basics. I am sure many of you have had a Venus Flytrap and killed it too. This could be that you used tap water instead of rainwater (minerals in tap water kill CPs because they are not used to minerals) or not growing them in Moss Peat (added fertilizers/minerals kill CPs*). Find out how to grow Venus Flytraps here! Most* CPs grow in boggy conditions so if your soil dries out your plant may never recover. Another reason why CPs get killed easily is that people don't let them go into dormancy*, when the plant dies back in Winter, requiring less water and light levels and then in Spring/Summer will grow back bigger than before.(That's another reason - People think their plants are dead and throw them out)  And with some plants if they don't have a dormancy period they get weaker and weaker until they die.

But remember that the rewards of owning a CP outweighs the effort put into growing them by far! The most beautiful CPs like Sarracenia and Drosera have wonderful unique looking leaves.

And Butterworts(Pinguicula) and Bladderworts are prized for their flowers!

Now that you know how to grow your carnivorous plant why don't you use GoogleTM to learn more about them or maybe even buy one.

Google

don't recommend using eBayTM unless you know a lot about Carnivorous Plants as you will probably end up buying something very overpriced and of little quality. E.g paying £5 for 10 Venus Flytrap Seeds etc

I hope I have achieved the aim of this website as to educate people about the 'hard to grow' Carnivorous Plant!!

Have fun growing,

lil_flytrap_kid

*Carnivorous Plants vary. Nepenthese can sometimes benefit from Fertilizer being sprayed on and they don't need as much sun either, they also do not grow in boggy conditions. Some plants don't even require dormancy. To be safe and not sorry I recommend looking up the species of genus you have bought e.g Drosera Capensis : Drosera is the genus and capensis is the species. There are many different species of one genus and each of them require different conditions. Find out the growing conditions of that particular species of plant. More Species: Drosera paradoxa or Sarracenia minor or Sarracenia flava. I hope you understand what I'm saying, If not feel free to drop me an e-mail at noswor@yahoo.co.uk - Thanks! =)
