Motivation
Having been working and living in Singapore since 1999, I see how the government of Singapore supports and promotes education to its citizens. Singapore being a small country with a population of around 4 million without natural resources yet very rich and very progressive, its government understands that its number one asset is its people. Investing in education for its people is a critical factor to the success of Singapore. So through the National Library Board (NLB), the government creates, builds and provides free public libraries to everyone in Singapore.
As a foreigner myself, I have also benefited a lot from its public libraries especially the Choa Chu Kang community library close to where I stay. The possibility of having a library in Siquijor struck into my mind. So I asked myself why not.
Thus, came the genesis of this project: ˇ°Library For Siquijorˇ±.
Mission
ˇ°To alleviate poverty in Siquijor through education.ˇ±
Challenges
ˇ¤ How to create the possibility for the children of Siquijor to appreciate that knowledge and education is very important. ˇ¤ How to create the possibility for the children of Siquijor to translate their knowledge into tangible results. ˇ¤ How to measure that poverty has alleviated in Siquijor. |
