We canoed...
We fished and caught fish!...
Rode Horses...
Ate homemade food

And enjoyed a well made campfire!!
prepping the gounds
digging the hole for the bonfire...
...setting up the bonfire
Mountain man working his magic...

This is what it is all about!!! Till the next camp out!!

Skate Night!

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving full of gluttonous buffoonery and football…er…uh…well, I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!

Skate Night is here!

Coming up is our Skate Night, December 2nd, at White Rock Skate (10055 Shoreview Drive). http://www.rinktime.com/skating_rinks/tx/white_rock_skate_ctr_skating_rink_arena_dallas_tx.cfm  1st year settlements will skate from 5:30 to 7:00 pm and 2nd and 3rd year settlements will skate from 7:00 to 8:30 pm.  If you are not able to make the scheduled time or wish to skate longer, don’t sweat it and come on out—these suggested times are just to help keep the rink from getting too crowded.  This also is a family event so bring the whole clan!  Only skaters pay an entry fee of $5.

We will be collecting canned foods and other non-perishable goods for the food bank in the skating rink parking lot.  Please remember to bring canned food items to donate for those in need this holiday season.  Thanks!

If you have any questions, please let me know.

No Longhouse meeting in December.

Upcoming events:

Princess Banquet, Sunday, January 27th.

Camp Carter & Spring Splash

Wow, that was a great camp out wasn't it?  I hope the mom's didn't think that something fishy had been going on
A quick recap from all perspectives:
After driving all the way to the womens prison because Dad may have been in the Naval Reserve you ended up paying the local police an entry fee to the campout because Dad was to eager to joins his buddies. Your Dad strictly follows the YMCA's guidelines as laid out by Adrian during the longhouse the first weekend: "The YMCA has no alcohol policy", while you swim in the lake after you fell out of a tree.  Hopefully one of the many fishermen or fishing princesses didn't get you on one of their hooks.

You hoped you could dry yourself at the great territory campfire, but somehow nobody could be mean enough to spit fire well enough to get the fire started; you had to wait for the second camp out for that to happen.  You did welcome a new Mountain man and on his second visit around he showed us of great things to come.  Somehow he looked similar to the guy on the old picture you found under some bushes, between the poison ivey...

The old Marshall seemed to be more strict with the princesses

Then the new Marshall, who it seems likes to enact the pied piper

In the mean time you had to sit at the campfire dying of thirst but with nothing to drink...oh, sorry...that wasn't you but the diesel generator

You saw a new group of officers take over from the old group and just hope that next year will be as great as this year. If only your dad would volunteer for one of the remaining Council positions...you would be soo proud

At night you hear some girls falling out of their bunk beds and you noticed that they had to take an early departure missing the promised 'Las Vegas' style chapel.  Food was plenty, but was it all good enough ? Surely there was no need to row to the other side of the lakes to get food from other settlements; yet some girls still thought rowing was necessary...where those the same adventurers that climbed all the way to the top of the wall, just to find out there was nothing but a bell on the other side .

You wake up on Sunday, you help you Dad clean up the cabin. You attended the closing ceremony including the 5 minute style chapel and you were on your way to the gas station.....to get Mom her flowers for Mother's day.

Then you think it's all over and take a nap for a few hours.  During the week your Dad tells you the story of a little princess of the Richardson YMCA who went that same weekend to Camp Classen and got her own 'snake' experience after a copperhead decided her flipflops were too yummy too pass on.  Her dad had to drive her to the Denton Hospital from where she was airlifted to Children's.  She's doing ok now, but you remember that on camp outs you should not walk barefooted but wear hiking boots all the time.

Fortunatly Spring Splash is just around the corner and you already are looking forward to go picnicking and swimming with your Territory Friends and receive your Honor Council rewards ....you did do the needed service projects, didn't you?

See Ya'll on Sunday 5/20 2pm at the YMCA; 4:30pm Ceremony.

Derby Day

Wow!!! What a great Derby Day at the Races! Almost like being at Texas Moter Speedway. And from a guy who drove Jeff Gordon's race car 143 mph around the track, I know what I'm talking about. We should have the results of the races posted to the website later this week, along with pics. Many asked Jim Dunham if they could get a copy of a picture he was taking, and Jim will let us know later how to download them.

My spies in the stands said they heard gumbling about the time it took to get the races started, and let me tell you, of the four years I've been involve in the Derby Car races, this one was ran the very best. I want to congratulate Fred Marsh on the great job he did. I started and ended on time. I don't think that has ever happened. And just to let you know, from the time check-in is cut off, we have to judge the cars (which is not as easy as you might think), get the line up off the computer and print it out, line up the cars in the correct staging positions so that the race runs smoothly, and instruct the helper settlement on how to keep the cars in order from taking them to the track and getting back in the correct line up. And let me tell you, that is no easy task. Thanks also to all the experienced Territorial Officers for all their hard work.

Again, I just want to think Deputy Marshal Fred Marsh, Ambassador/Quartermaster Andy Combs, Ambassador Paul Elkjer, and Traper Jim Dunham for all their work and assistance with the Derby Day event.

Look forward to seeing everyone at the Bond Fire. Who knows who will show up...

Princess Sky Ranch Camp Out huge success

The Princess Fall Camp out to Sky Ranch was a huge success.  With over 340 campers the Lake Highlands Adventure program made a recognizable presence at Sky Ranch.
Although there were some stuggles on Friday to get everyone in a timely manner to their cabins, things turned around for the better on Saturday and stayed excellent on Sunday.
The 3rd year song contest was won by the Owhyee settlement; the best banner was won by the Pecos settlement.

Pictures of the Guides and/or Princesses camp outs will follow soon.
If you have any pictures, please add them to our Photo collection on http://lhyagp.shutterfly.com. Alternatively you can email them to the Telegrapher who will put them on the website (approx 5Mb max per email, but let those emails come!).  Please include your Circle / Settlement's name and the date.

If you want to share your experience at this or other campouts, please leave a comment in the campout section.

Princess Induction

The Princess induction 2007 has been a great success, despite the weather.

During the first Longhouse of the year the Rangers were asked to pray for rain, so that there would be no fire ban during the induction.  Well, we all know that they did a good job at that: the induction bonfire was rained out.  The council prepared the bonfire anyway, just incase the rain would stop and....oh well...
The entire Nation gathered inside the gym to eat their own food, followed by the induction ceremony.

More pictures can be found at http://lhyagp.shutterfly.com

Recruitment nights are over; let the FUN begin!

Although the recruitment nights are over, you can still join the FUN!

The inductions will be on September 16  (Guides) and 17 (Princesses) so please sign up before that time if you want to experience the Grand opening of the season!

If you're not able to sign up beforehand, do not worry.  You can get inducted at the first campout too (22-24 September for the Guides, 29-1 for the Princesses).

The recruitment meetings had a good attendance.  During the session, that lasted under an hour, representatives of the Guides and Princesses introduced the program to the attending parents and helped answer questions.

The 2006-2007 season has what it takes to become a good one!
