No, Sekai is not a dog! He is a normal Ball Python and the newest member of our family. His previous owner was caught keeping him in a dorm room (no snakes allowed), and was given one month to find him a new home. Sekai is our craigslist miracle!
Ball pythons are constrictors - they are not venomous, nor do they pose any risk to humans or dogs. They eat mice, and rats as they get older. Ball pythons are docile and gentle snakes, and make good pets for this reason. They are also called Royal Pythons, but their more common name (Ball Python) comes from the position they take when they feel exposed and/or threatened. They coil up into a cute little ball, usually hiding their head underneath their coils. They're nocturnal snakes, so they like to spend most of their time hiding. They grow to be about 4 feet long, and are very thick, stocky snakes.
His name is west African in origin, and apparently it means "laughter".
