LFJ Compositions

Below are some of my midi compositions that I make for fun in my spare time.  I am no Mozart, i've never taking any courses on composition or theory so I don't really know what i'm doing, but I try nonetheless.

Short Music Bio

* = recently written music

Piano Concerto No. 1 in E minor

*1st movement- (intro)  (incomplete)

Symphony No. 1 in D minor

*1st Movement (7:07)-  Slightly quicker tempo

*2nd Movement (5:19) - The slower movement

*3rd Movement (3:59) done!

*4th Movement (5:26) - dunzo!

*1st Movement- (mp3) My friend Drake and Caleb some added some cool realistic patches to my piece.

1st Mvmt Ideas - This is how I originally began writing my first symphony, with an arrangement of 4 strings and piano (representing the orchestra).  I thought this would be easier and then do the arranging later, but then I just decided it would be better to write it with all the orchestra instruments.  This version is quite different then the final first movement, and mainly consists of some musical ideas, some of which were used for the actual 1st mvmt. Though there is the possibility that I might use some of these ideas in the future.

Music for a Computer Game

*Boss Theme = Like an overall theme, an opening, or a last boss kind of theme

*Sample2-3 = This is like the fairy, princess trapped in the castle theme....

*Sample3-4 = This is like the main, dark yet good characteristics of the protagonist in the game

*Sample4 = This is just a ...philip glass sort of theme

*Sample5 = This is like a battle, or about to go into battle theme.

*Sample6 = You just got a mushroom. Or a star....or something really awesome

Themed Music

*Etude in F minor- Wanted to write a piece for 1 instrument, the piano.  Knocked this one out in 3 hours, and I realized there was some influences of Chopin and Tchaikowsky.  Can't get rid of your old influences, they will always be a part of you.  Kind of good and bad at the same time.

*The Window Song - just a short variation piece, and i don't know why i named it the window song, but i couldn't think of anything better

*Wind Canyon - recently i've driven through several of the canyon roads of la, though very scenic,  it can get windy sometimes. this piece has a strong philip glass feel to it,  with a touch of some unusual phrasing patterns.

*Marche2- added some things, more bass line in some parts to the marche because it seemed incomplete, added a mid section also.

*Marche based on a random piano idea i've been fiddling around w/ for a while

*MusicBox (1:20)- a short little piece based on one of my favorate 4 chord progression.

*Transition - this song is based on a transition that i had to write between songs during a performance, but with more shit and vibraphones.

Snowday (3:37)- after it started snowing (when i was living up north)

Lovesong (2:58)- ....i love lamp. i love desk...Brick is awesome

*DayAfter (2:07)- after watch the day after tomorrow wrote this song

Piano Song (1:49)- a simple, melodical piano piece. i put in some 3 against 2 rhythms

Short Melody (1:51)- i wanted to write a short melodic piece and 30 minutes later this is what came out.

Anthem (1:36)- my attempt at patriotism...and countermelody

Tribute to Pink Floyd
(1:30)- the first midi I created using cakewalk music creater. It kind of reminds
me of a pink floyd.

Classical

*Etude in C minor - fast piece with arpeggios....and it's in c minor

Prelude in D minor (1:41)- i wrote this piece to show more of my classical side. although it's a serious work, i couldn't resist throwing in a few measures of a "hoedown" melody.

*Waltz in G Minor (3:36)- a waltz that starts out slow, has a quick happy little mid section, and ends slow.

*Sonata in G minor (2nd mvmt) (3:19)- started out as some chords I liked to play in a certain order, but later developed into a musical piece of it's own.

Hungarian Dance (2:14)- kinda similiar to the famous brahms piece, but not quite the same. this piece is rigid, and some parts would require 3 hands to play it...oops.

*Prelude in A minor- a piece of music for piano, with piratey riffs

Organ Prelude (2:50)- i've always really liked the powerful sound of the pipe organ.

Nocturne in B minor (piano) (piano)(1:20)- piano version of the nocturne

Tocatta (0:58)- a short, quirky, fast paced tocatta.

Old Band Songs

*F.S. - This was the original prototype of the song that eventually became 'life, afterlife'...there has been some chord changes in the intro, but the basis is pretty close to the final product

*Not a real song -   I proposed to the band as making this into a song, but no one liked it so it didn't become anything.

*Beachball - i'm not exactly sure what this was, i think it was the original piano solo in 'hope on the horizon'

Evil Christmas (4:30)- old version of evil xmas

E Minor (2:28)- old version of e minor

Joke Songs

Variations on Chopsticks (3:11)- just the idea of someone taking part of their day to compose a variation on chopsticks is funny in itself (warning: an ives-like variation included...comparable to a dog walking/running on a piano)

Prelude in C (0:52)- my attempt at a prelude in the style of the one and only...BACH.  Attempt is the keyword here

A dance for a drunken pirate moron
(1:44)- a musical joke, not to mention the unorthodox instrumentation (elec. piano, ocarina, synth. bass)

Secret Message (1:15)- using an associating of letters to notes, i've created a piece in which the right hand spells out words. The main six note theme at the beginning is my name, which is a reoccuring theme throughout the piece. the left hand doesn't say anything, it's just there to try and harmonize the unusual combinations of notes.

Nothing But Cluster Chords
- this may be my greatest work yet part 2

Best Song Ever- Not really

String Ensemble

String Quintet in Eb minor-

Nocturne in B minor (strings) (1:32)- a nocturne for strings

String Duet (1:42)- a duet between violon (or viola) and cello. simple and mellow. though i really had to meddle with it to get the phrasing how i wanted it.

String Complex (2:04)- an expressive, somewhat dark piece for string quartet. kind of reminds me of a really foggy place. i used many "strange" harmonies in the mid section.

Chords--A piece with chords and scales

Woodwind Quintet

Prelude in F minor-
