National 2 - LAG 188V

This vehicle is historically significant as the first production Mark 2 Leyland National by chassis number.

LAG 188V was new to East Yorkshire Motor Services Ltd., a subsidiary of the National Bus Company (NBC), on the 1st January 1980, receiving the fleet number 188. She was based at Hull and Scarborough depots. She was sold to East Midlands Motor Services Ltd, along with sister 189 (LAG 189V), on the 11th August 1988 and was given the fleet number 625. She was bought by Chester City Transport Ltd. on the 28th October 1999, for use on School contracts and became fleet number 318. She was withdrawn by Chester on the 28th February 2003 and acquired for preservation by Phil Hiles of Elland on the 1st March 2003.

Following the expiry of her MOT in September 2003, the decision was taken to re-MOT her to full PCV status. She was taken to Yorkshire Traction's Barnsley depot and from late November 2003 until March 2004 they carried out various mechanical and bodywork repairs on her. All of the attention paid off as LAG 188V achieved a first time pass of a Class VI MOT on the 11th March 2004, much to the delight of her owner. In April 2005 she returned to Yorkshire Traction at Barnsley for MOT preparation, bodywork attention and a repaint. Whilst there the luggage pen was refitted, reseating the bus to the original B49F status. During April 2005 she was repainted into East Yorkshire NBC Poppy Red livery and she passed her MOT on the 28th April 2005.

On 30th March 2008 she was sold to Hull Bus Restorers for continued preservation.  Thanks to Phil Hiles for the information and photographs regarding 188 which he has kindly given permission to use.

LAG 188V was withdrawn by Chester City Transport on the 28th February 2003 and purchased for preservation by Phil Hiles the next day, 1st March 2003. She was then stored at Chester's depot until Phil collected her on the 29th April 2003. LAG 188V is pictured at Chester City Transport's depot on the 29th April 2003, the day she was collected by her new owner Phil Hiles.
