Gallery - Farewell Birmingham

The beast of them all, Central SMT N37 (EGB 90T) which still retains its original 510 engine is pictured in the top yard at Tividale upon inspection a week prior to being aquired by British Bus Sales. Currently, no Central SMT National 1s survive in preservation, hopefully the void can be filled soon.

Former Midland Red 568 (NOE 568R) showing off its 'duckbill' style front bumper, sat in the yard at Tivdale ready to leave for Cobham. According to the driver, this particular example is excellent to drive, but even better than a Leyland 510 powered National...?!

The first four Nationals to departed Birmingham on Thurdsay 21st August for pastures new, compring of Leyland 510-powered EGB 90T, a personal favourite of the webmasters and Volvo-engined VOD 603S, VNO 740S and NOE 568R. The convoy is seen here on the southbound M40 services at Warwick.

NPD 128L warmed up and waiting for departure from Tividale to Cobham on Saturday 23rd August. This particular vehicle has achieved minor celebrity status due to it being one of the oldest Nationals still, until very recently operating in service.

HMA 565T re-registered to BOK 796T was one of two Nationals remaining in service after many others had been withdrawn. Still in service on Friday 22nd August with YEV 307S. The pair along with NPD 128L and RUF 41R were then driven in convoy to Cobham on Saturday 23rd August, although HMA 565T was deemed to be not the best of the bunch.

Errrrmmm.... The 'hot seat' on RKA 884T! It's original seat had been removed hence this unorthodox replacement. RKA 884T was due to move on the second trip from Tividale to Cobham on Saturday 23rd August, but due to the lack of drivers seat was left until a replacement could be sourced.

RUF 41R hiding under the registration of UFK 941R is seen being jump started. Obviously reluctant to leave Birmingham and head back nearer to home territory, being new to Southdown.

The former mobile bank JYO 751N suffered engine failure shortly after withdrawal from service meaning that it will have be towed to Cobham for repairs to be effected.
