The wolf...
When someone hears the word "wolf," many things may pop-up in their
head, alot of them bad. Many people think wolves are mean,
terrifing creatures, yet in real life, wolves are very shy.
Native Americans respected the wolf, for it's beauty, but mostly the
wolves' wisdom. They respected the wolf and even called wolves
their "teachers." Only until folklore came along is when the wolf
was looked at differently. Whether it's the "Big bad wolf" or the
wolf who ate Little Red Riding Hood's Grandma, people began to
change their thoughts about wolves.
Wolves are typically kind, shy creatures. They might look large
and frighting, but they really aren't. They stand their ground
and might growl, only because they feel threatned. If you are
standing, the wolf sees you as a tall, dominating wolf. They may
growl or back away either to say "Hey, I'm boss!" or "Ok, please don't
hurt me..."
Now wolves are endangered because humans have hunted wolves to almost the point of extinction. Yet there has never been a case of a wolf killing a human.*
Many organizations have been held, alot of them unsuccessful. For
a main factor that once wolves have been socialized, they can't be
released into the wild. For example, if you had a wolf and gave
it its food every day, and released it into the wild, it would starve
because it would rely on you for his/her food and wouldn't know how to
hunt.
