"The Assault" #322

Summary: The Dominion finds out about Adam reappearance to Mutant X and demands that Lexa deliver Jesse to them after Jesse passes his "expiry date" when his mutation would eventually kill him. When Lexa refuses to bring Jesse in, knowing the Dominion would kill him, troops that are immune to her powers take Lexa straight to the Dominion headquarters. Meanwhile in Sanctuary, Brennan and Shalimar are caught up in the moment and sleep together before Jesse calls them to find Adam. When they meet Adam, they are interrupted by more Dominion-troops and they take Jesse to the headquarters.

Lexa is held in a cell where they bring in Jesse and torture him until she tells them Sanctuary-pass codes ... though they are fake. When Jesse is placed in the cell next to her, Lexa reveals that she uploaded a virus called Kane mutiny into the Dominion's system which will eventually free them. Lexa also tells Jesse that the Dominion's boss is called the Creator and he is the one to find. When Kane mutiny kicks in, Lexa and Jesse find Adam, Bren, and Shalimar where they find the Creator.

It turns out, Adam is actually the clone of the Creator and the Dominion takes them away right as the headquarters blows up and Bren, Shal, Lexa, and Jesse escape. In the end, the Double Helix and Sanctuary is destroyed and Mutant X is left to find Adam before Brennan, Shalimar, and Lexa's DNA self destructs.

Review: Adam's a clone??? What? That makes no sense! Plus, Adam was just going to leave Lexa to the Dominion at one point, but I'm glad Jesse started yelling at him. The Bren/Shal thing wasn't love, like the prophecy said, it was just caught up in the moment kind of thing. Karen Cliche's performance was the only thing worth watching to me, especially that fight sequence with her hands tied behind her back. Not many could do that. In fact, she saved Jesse twice in this episode. But other than Lexa, this episode wasn't really good. I give the Assault 3 out of 5 stars

Theories,Thoughts and Questions

Theories and Thoughts

Throughout 3 seasons us, as fans, have seen things that some of us may or may not agree to.
For example:

-The Growing Relationship Between Brennan and Shalimar-

Since Season One, Brennan has had feelings for Shalimar, especially when Shalimar fell for a guy in an episode. He was always jealous or hated the new guy. Of course, he said something about it but it wasn't "I love you," it was sort of "I wouldn't know what I'd do if you weren't around." However, in Season 3, the roles as drooling boy/oblivious girl switched on us. Now, Brennan is getting some girls (ex. Wages of Sin's Kristen Greg and Possibilities' Samantha Bennett) and Shalimar is getting really sad and jealous. And what was that playing session between Shal and Bren in Possibilities, anyway? And I just got news in Sci-Fi Wire that their relationship is going to take a very sharp turn by the finale of Season 3.

-The Disappearance of Dominique-

It has come to my attention, after I watched Wages of Sin for the fifth time that we never see/hear of Dominique ever since the second episode. Lexa made her sound like the only person to help her brother and to stabilize Mutant X's DNA yet they never mention her again. I believe it happened through inconsistency of writing, because now Adam is back and he's going to help them all. I just thought I'd mention it while I was here.

The Reappearance! Dominique was spotted in the Dominion headquartes when Lexa was brought to them to discuss her fate ... of course all we got was "Thank you, Dominique" from the Dominion's leader. But she returned, I wish they had brought more closure then "Oh, I guess Dominique works for the Dominion"

-The Pierce Triplets-

The title might seem weird, but did anyone notice that Lexa might have 2 brothers? In "Into the Moonless Night" The Dominion-guy said she had to cooperate with the Dominion to "find the people she's seeking," let's get that out there. Then, in "Wages of Sin" I mentioned above that she was looking for Dominique to help someone. In "The Taking of Crows" Lexa tells that sleazy bar owner that she was looking for her brother named Luke. The next episode: "Shadows of Darkness" Lexa searches the name "Leo Pierce" in the St. Pastors' database and says she used to know someone who spent some time there. Crazy as I am, I thought Leo was her father, silly me because she already revealed she was searching for her brother Luke. Skip some 4 episodes to "Brother's Keeper" and it turns out: Lexa WAS searching for her twin brother, Leo for almost 5 years! What happened to Luke?! Was this the inconsistency of the writers'? Or does she have another missing brother? Where does the madness end, really?

Possible Answer: a friend, lexajesse, pointed out that maybe Luke was one of Leo's multiple personas. A possibility.

-How do they get off that Mountain?-

My impression of Sanctuary was that it was on Stormking Mountain, surrounded by water. It seems like they're trapped on that rock. Yet, where do all those cars come from? How do they use cars? Even in Season One they had motor transportation for the ground but Sanctuary was surrounded by water. Does the Helix carry the cars off the mountain and drop them off somewhere? Think about that.

-The Anorexic Mutant X-
Have you ever noticed that we never see them eating except maybe a snack or two? In "Into the Moonless Night" we see Lexa eating Jell-O, in "Art of Attraction" Brennan has some Chinese food, and voila! Lexa ate a fortune cookie in "Divided Loyalties". I remember in Season One, I saw a whole meal with pizza and Chinese food. Did Mutant X develop an eating disorder? They probably didn't have time to shoot the meal-scenes because they had a mission but I just miss when the writers' actually tried to make them seem real.

-Mutant X's Daddy Issues-

After the airing of Age of Innocence, I had a questions that I shared with some forums but since this is MY site, I felt it was kind of stupid not to share them here. Okay, let's go start with Jesse: back to Season one, there was an episode called Blood Ties, in this episode Jesse's father, Noah Kilmartin asked for Jesse's help when he said that some people were after him because he infiltrated a company and stole some research. Well, it turned out that Noah did steal some research but he was holding the research for ransom and used Jesse for protection. Throughout the whole episode, Jesse ignored all the warnings and evidence that the others from Mutant X provided to prove that Noah was, indeed, a bad guy. It wasn't until the very end that Jesse believed it and left his father behind. Okay, now let's leap forward to Age of Innocence: Throughout Age of Innocence, he said that his dad was a very bad father. Like he hated Noah his entire life. You'd think that if Jesse didn't trust his father for his whole life, he wouldn't even bother with him during Blood Ties. It's probably some incontinuity, again.

Let's go to Lexa now, her story is pretty simple. Military experiments have NEVER worked out on this series, in Season one; a military group went under experiments and developed feral-abilities (Dark Star Rising) for example. Well, in Lexa and Leo's case, it worked in a very special way, in a military fertility program (of course) Lexa and Leo developed molecular-abilities and they were raised on a base until they were 14 when, we guess, ran away or something and ended up in Eckhart's hands ... bla bla bla (heard the story) but Lexa mentioned that her "parents don't deserved to be mentioned" (funny way of putting it, but it's true) so Lexa has daddy issues too.

Brennan, his story is pretty complicated, mentioned that he had TWO daddies ... one was a fighter pilot I believe and his stepfather was kind of a jerk. So I've heard, I don't know the exact story but he has mentioned two different people being his father.

Shalimar's father, I know a little about, Nicky Fox (aka Nicholas, duh) sent Ms. Shalimar to a mental institution when she was a girl when her abilities started to show up. She hasn't forgiven him since. In the Season 2 finale "Lest He Become" Nicky Fox had been in league with Mason Eckhart to construct a machine that could reverse a human's mutation, Shalimar hated this (and hell, who wouldn't) but Nicky freed Shalimar and got saved them all. But we've never heard of Nicky Fox again.

So, in the end, they're all without daddies and mommies but you know they're in their late-twenties/early thirties from what we guess, so not everyone can be in contact with their parents but either way ya spin it, they have some serious issues with their dads and moms. And they only guy they could find for their father figure is Adam Kane, who has been lying to them-what was it-forever now? I guess it just goes to show that no one has perfect parents.

-Mutant X's Missing Powers-

I got some more DVDs and I watched this episode called A Breed Apart, Season One's finale, in this one all four (Bren, Shal, Jess, Emma) got power growth spurts. Jesse, of course, got his ability to phase other objects and people (he never massed anyone or anything until the Assault, which is strange). Emma got her infamous psionic blast, finally an active power. Shalimar got extrasensory perception, where she could anticipate and sense opponents' moves even blindfolded, and Brennan, he could propel himself with his own voltage. That was in season one, in Season 2, Emma and Jesse became dependent on their new abilities ... you've seen how Jesse hardly ever phases only himself. However, Shalimar hardly ever uses her perception anymore ... or her feral agility (high jumps, hardcore martial arts, etc.) and Brennan NEVER uses his rocket powers anymore. Not in Season 3 and hardly ever in Season 2. Did they forget something? Or did they just grew tired of using all the special effects and wiring?

-Mutant X has gone Asian-

Have you noticed that in Season 3, there's been a lot of oriental props? Lexa's fortune cookie in Divided Loyalties? Brennan's Chow Mein snack in Art of Attraction? Noticed the pictures of the four of them in a dark alley with Chinese symbols in the back? In Season One, Sanctuary had a calming, collected, Zen outlook. Warm colors, rushing water, and still there are Chinese symbols by the floating staircase during Season 3. Think about that.

-The Missing Dojo-

If you remember, or I'll tell you, Sanctuary was complete with a hologram-tripped out dojo that looked like a big orange tunnel ... it was famous for the holograms that Jesse, Shalimar, Emma, and Brennan beat the crap out of (aka sparred with) while training. In the premiere of Season 2, it disappeared, and was left with the circle of couches and arm chairs ... including the infamous chess board.  I just thought I'd put it here because I'm bored out of my mind and I really miss the really cool spar scenes. Anyway, here's a look at the dojo for those who don't know what I'm talking about.

-Comlink Rings-

I always wondered about the reception of the rings ... how do they hear what the others are saying on those things? Are there speakers in that thing? Or because it's connected to their "specific" DNA, does it have a stereo blasting into their ears? Also, how do they trigger a communication link? They can't all be listening to everything everyone is saying 24/7 ... how annoying? How do they pick and choose who they want to talk to and when? It was just bugging me.

-Leo Pierce, What Was He Running From?-

Now, I was contemplating the Pierce Triplets Question/Theory when I was thinking: Maybe Lexa called Leo Luke, because she didn't want that greasy bar owner to know his real name; that he was running from somebody. Possible? Yes, because in that article Karen Cliche posted, when replying to the attacks on the writers' consistency; she said that people complained that the picture of her brother was different from the actor that played Leo in "Brother's Keeper." She didn't say anything about the different names, so maybe that wasn't accidental. But if that is true, that she lied to the bar owner about her brother's name on purpose, who was Leo running from (like that Italian bar owner posed any threat)? Leo didn't know Carter was after him until after they killed Leo's girlfriend, Candance, remember? I had the impression that Leo was running from Lexa because he thought she'd take him back to Genomex, because when they ran into each other in the alley, Leo said: I'm not going back there, Lexa. But if Leo was running from Lexa, why lie to a bar owner? Just thinking.

Thanks for sitting and reading my thoughts and theories, maybe most of these will be explained later. But we'll never know.
