FYI....
Please send an extra set of clothes to be left at school in case of any accidents. Even the ones who never have "accidents" may accidentally spill their lunch, water, paint, etc... Which can cause undo stress.
Please don't send drinks on your snack day unless it is a special celebration.
Please check your child's pockets each day for awhile. Things tend to find their way home with my friends especially, at the beginning when things are still new and exciting. Don't make a big deal of they do just quietly return them to my desk. It is a typical behavior at this age.
Lunch is from 11:00-11:25 in the cafeteria. You can either bring your lunch or purchase one from the cafeteria. Ms. Davis will be with our children at all times during lunch. If you choose to purchase a lunch you can either pre-pay in the cafeteria or send money each day. Be sure and let Ms. Davis know if you do send money so, she can be sure to get your account credited. After the first few months of school you are welcome to have lunch with your child provided it does not cause stress when you leave.
Messy art days will begin after the first month or so-After I get a sense of how the children react to their parents during drop offs etc... I want this to be a fun activity not a stressful one.
I will be sending home an "All about me” information sheet this week. Please fill it out along with an attached picture and return to school by next week. You will not be getting this picture back so, please send one that you are okay with having laminated into a class book.
I will begin class big books in the next few weeks. Everybody will get a chance to bring each one home as we complete them. Please take a few moments to read the books with your child and send back to school in a timely manner. This will keep the check out flow going and allow enough time for everyone to have a turn.
Once library begins PLEASE remember to send your child's book back each week. This is a very exciting time for the kids and can cause a lot of tears if you forget... Especially at the beginning of the year. This age does not always understand when they don't get to check out a book and others do.
v I can assure you that rest time is not going to be one of your child’s favorite times of the day. (they associate it with babies)- However, it is an important and necessary time in our schedule. It is my experiences that without taking time to rest their bodies and minds- the children tend to argue more, have shorter attention spans and frustration levels during activities, and either have complete meltdowns at the end of the day or fall asleep on the way home.
Please keep in mind- that most of them are not used to getting up early in the morning and rushing around to get ready for school. If it is anything like my house, your child is accustomed to lounging around in their pajamas, watching
Also, in my class they are engaged in age appropriate activities ALL day (which means there is little down time or activities that require low levels of movement). They will be constantly engaged and busy.
And after 7 hours of this type of energy and excitement… they will be worn out-
I am sure you are exhausted yourself just thinking about all of this.
I hope I have convinced you that if your child tells you that they are too big for naps you will remind them of the importance of it!
So, to make rest time more pleasurable I allow the children to bring in their favorite blanket, a favorite sleep pal (limit one) and a small pillow. (These will be stored in their lockers). Also, I encourage you to take these blankets home each weekend to wash and return on Monday.
