Dear Parents,
Welcome to the fabulous Pre-K class at Eisenhower International. We are very excited about your child being part of our classroom. I feel so lucky to have the opportunity to watch each child grow and learn throughout this school year. Pre-Kindergarten is a time in your childs life when he or she will be preparing for Kindergarten, as well as, finishing up the preschool years. As your children are growing into school aged children, we hope that they are enjoying their last fling as preschoolers.
We believe hands-on, developmental learning is essential to building a concrete foundation for the future. Therefore, we will be learning in a variety of ways:
*singing *dancing *reading *modeling
*manipulating *exploring *centers *discussing
*group time * cooking *writing *drawing
And much, much more! We want their time in our classroom to be educational and fun!!
We will be beginning the year with the theme "The Wheels on the Bus" and learning all about transportation. We will also spend a lot of time getting to know each other and all the fun places we will visit around the school. Most importantly, we will spend time establishing routines and expectations of our classroom.
I know for some of you this is a big milestone in your childs life, and for many of you the first time your child has been away from you, so I will make every effort to keep you informed and updated on exciting things happening in our classroom-
Each week you will receive an e-mail with a brief description of the thematic unit we will be studying, a list of songs that we will be singing in class, our letter of the week, and any upcoming projects , as well as, a snack list.
It is our hope that you will take the information included in the e-mail as a time to talk with your child about his or her day, reinforcing the skills that we have been practicing in class.
We will have fun snack or cooking ideas that will go along with a lot of the units we will be studying-which will take the place of snacks for that day. I will send out e-mails in advance, and if you are willing to supply items for this special cooking day we will place you in the snack calendar accordingly-
Throughout each month, we will have at-home activities we would like you to complete and return to the classroom. We will also have a letter and number of the week. You will find a suggestion sheet attached to this letter that will provide you with ideas to help incorporate and participate in your childs learning. Maybe you can make this part of your daily routine. You will be amazed at how aware your child will become aware of print in their surroundings. We would also appreciate any extra help that you could provide with special projects, which we will always let you know about in advance.
Again, I cant express enough how truly excited I am about teaching your children this year. Please feel free to contact me with any accomplishments, comments, or concerns that may arise. I know that this is such an important and transitional year for these little ones, so please know that I have an open door policy and would rather address issues as they occur rather than wait and cause undue emotions.
Sincerely,
Ashley Lewis
