Writing is a passion with me.  There is nothing more exciting that delving

into ones mind and drawing from some facts of life and some fiction and lots

of imagination to create a story.  It may seem to be an impossible story but I

am sure they said that about Star Wars or Close Encounters of the third kind.

If you read and allow your mind to work with it you can create your own

version.  Reading is a wonderful way to expand the imagination.

Cowboys are childhoods greatest Memories

It was Saturday morning and my brother and I would turn the old pale black and white TV.

Somehow, though it didn’t seem colorless because we knew what we were about to see.

The hero’s of the past would take us on a trip full of energy and excitement.

Cowboys like Audi Murphy and Gene Autry rode the range and we went where they went.

Everybody remembers Roy Rogers, his wife Dale Evans and Trigger, his horse.

We rode the range with Gary Cooper; buffalo Bill, Guy Madison and his sidekick,

Andy Devine.

I still remember Gunsmoke, Bonanza and Paladin, the one in the dark suit.

Who could forget Johnny Mack Brown or the Lone Ranger and Tonto, always in hot pursuit?

These are only a few of my childhood hero’s who just by being there taught me right from wrong.

Cowboys could ride, shoot and fight but they could also sing a great song.

This is a comical approach to being a Grandfather.  My youngest grandson just turned two and just as it did with the ones before it is already changing life for us all.  One thing is true.  It never gets boring.

At Two

In the life of a boy this is where vinegar starts brewing.

We see attitudes change and personalities pursuing

A new sort of dream and thoughts of their own.

Sometimes you find yourself smiling but often you groan.

The sugar and spice is replaced with snakes and snails;

Food all over the floor and with puppy dog tails.

The testosterone has started to make its impact and yes;

Prepare yourself for now life is a mess.

Little girls may play and put things neatly away

But little boys rush through the house throwing things astray.

They climb the walls and scatter things on the floor;

They empty the closets and check every door.

If there is havoc to find you know they know just where.

They will try anything simply because they dare.

As wild as those terrible twos seem to be

Just wait until they grow to be three.

Then comes the next year and then comes more.

For a parent each year brings a new challenge. It’s always in store.

Then one day when they become a man they will have stress

When they have a boy who will create such a mess.

This, my friend is the circle of life.

Are you dizzy yet or do you think you can withstand the strife?

I once was young but now I am old and tired.

They are full of life and forever wired.

What a combination when Grandpa loves grandson with all of his heart.

What’s next?  Great grand children?…. Oh don’t even start.

Happy Easter to everyone.  “For God so loved the world that he gave his only

begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have

everlasting life.

Why the Cross?

Why did Jesus need to hang on that cross that day?

He hung to refund the price we would have had to pay.

Sin had taken over the world so blind and we were all doomed to die…

The price for our sins which are wily, crafty and sly.

A week before he was crucified he entered the city and palm branches were waved

But alas, the price of sin is high and even their way of praising was depraved.

The power of sin is deceptive and deceitful.

Its results in a world gone astray are regretful.

Our lives were led astray and our spirits unstable

And only because of his love were we found to able

To see our need to change and give our hearts to God.

The way to the Father is through the son.

Pick up your cross till your earthly life is done.

Then a new life will be given where the difficulties of sin have no power.

Pray through Jesus Christ to help you through your roughest hour.

Never allow evil to pervade your heart and soul for this leads to more sin.

Open your heart to God and let Christ Jesus come in.

Immaculate White Smoke

Hi to one and all!  I’m Lew Duffey.  I have been promoting my books, “Adventures of the Angels” and Rebirth of the Dogwood” and although my first novel is listed with excerpts I fear I have been neglecting it.  This book was my first labor of love.

In truth it was meant to be a slap-happy comedy about a cowboy and his girl when they find themselves in the twentieth century.  The comedy is supposed to give you a view of what happens to a shoot to kill cowboy when he can’t even touch his gun and finds himself and his girl enslaved by Mordrid, an angel of Satan.

I still think it makes a wonderful comedy but if you are looking for social redeeming value you really don’t have to look too far.  Andora is a woman who wanted marriage, kids and a normal live.  Unfortunately she was in love with Arty and he simply didn’t want responsibility.  He wanted to live on the wild side.

When they find themselves haunting an old farm house in the twentieth century Andorra was the one who could adjust but Arty was a thorn in the flesh.  The one most irritated with him was Mordrid.  Arty was supposed to be a ghost and haunt people.  You know what I mean… scare them enough so they would never go near that house again but Arty just didn’t get it.

You watch Andorra grow and you also see her influence on the ghost of Arty.  You will also get into the minds of some of the people they were supposed to be haunting.  Think about it.  How could Arty haunt them if he didn’t even know how to scare them?

If you have not read the excerpts on this site yet, please do.  I would love to know what you think of this.  It was tagged by my publisher as an inspirational novel and it is.  It is about the fight between good and evil.  I really was trying to write a comedy.  I truly believe you will enjoy it.

God Bless,

Lew Duffey (Author)

Sunny is Free with the purchase

of any one or more of the books listed above.

This is Lew again.  I have a thought to share with you about my first two published books.  I think I may owe an explanation to those of you who purchased, “Adventures of the Angels.”  You may feel like your watching the ‘Star Wars’ trilogy.  You know how George Lucas started with the original motion picture and then went backwards instead of forwards.  He searched into the past of the characters, including Darth Vader.

“Adventures of the Angels,” is a sequel to my first novel.  “Immaculate White Smoke,” would explain how some of the characters got where they are.  So if you purchased “Adventures of the Angels” you may be curious enough to buy “Immaculate White Smoke,” just to see what I am talking about.  I would explain this in more detail but that would be giving it away.  Everyone tells me they think, “Immaculate White Smoke” would make a tremendous movie.  Wouldn’t that be a dream come true.

Whether or not that happens I believe it is a light-hearted way to vent my faith through fiction.  There are action, romance and mystery with twists and turns that even I did not know I would be putting there.  I would love any feedback any of you who may have read my book may have.

Although “Adventures of the Angels” is a sequel, it takes on a more science fiction feel to it.  It does not; however lose any of its spiritual meaning.  If I have made you curious, maybe you will buy both and let me know how you like them.

God Bless,

Lew Duffey

Immaculate White Smoke

I am a retired man due to a heart condition but life without a reason is no life at all.  I

still find time for my family and I still have a mind so I decided to write a book.

"Immaculate White Smoke" may be considered an old man's imagination run wild.  I

like to think of it as a modern day parable.  I know that life is a constant battle of

good versus evil.  I am rooting for good.  I was thrilled when PublishAmerica

decided to publish my book.  I have limited resources to promote with so I have to

use every dollar as wisely as I can but the people who have read my book seemed to

enjoy it.  Many have even said it should be made into a movie.  It is a mixture of

comedy, spiritual insight and suspense.  PublishAmerica chose to call it an

inspirational novel.  I can live with that.  One lady who read my book even went so

far as to say, "You are a romantic, aren't you?"

I guess I am.  This is a wonderful gift to give to someone who sees life as dark and

dreary.  It starts out rather slap-happy and rather funny, but soon seems hopeless.

Without giving too much away, I would say it runs from frustration to comedy to a

source of hope.

(Or is it the other way around?.......)Hmmmmm!

I truly hope you will purchase Immaculate White Smoke and invite you review it.

Scroll further down on this page for an excerpt.

Lew Duffey

Here is another excerpt from

"Immaculate White Smoke"

"That's your plan?" Andorra said in disbelief.  "That's how we get away?"  Now her face reflected a mixture of misgiving and maybe a little anger.  She was beginning to think that Arty was losing it.  He had never come up with such a hair-brained idea before.

"That's it!" he affirmed.  She had her second thoughts about what anyone would say about a woman riding out alone but she didn't argue with him.  She knew she didn't have time.  They didn't wait for it to get dark.  They went to their wagon and rode all night long.  It gave them a lead on the posse but everyone including Tom Drake saw them together the night before in the town saloon.  Even as they were leaving town Drake realized where he remembered those brown eyes from.

The sheriff soon came and freed the banker.  Then he rounded up a posse.  One of the town people saw a beautiful girl with fiery red hair, wearing a long blue dress as she drove out of town alone.  This was truly something that a woman didn't do in that town at that time in history.  The danger of being robbed or worse was too great.  That along with the fact that the banker realized those brown eyes belonged to Arty left no question in anyone's mind that Arty was hiding in the wagon.  Everyone remembered the couple from the saloon.  This was enough to help the sheriff decide that it was indeed Arty who robbed the bank and she was an accomplice.

To say the least, Artys’ plan was not well thought out.  Andorra's misgivings were well founded because the sheriff figured it was Andorra in the wagon.  He surmised that if Arty wasn't with her he would be meeting her somewhere on the road, probably riding a horse he stole somewhere.

.  Of course there was always the possibility that he was in the wagon with her but nobody saw him.  They found the wagon tracks and followed.

Arty overlooked the fact that the sheriff would be there to see why Drake didn't come to his office.  This was indeed an oversight on his part, probably because nobody had robbed the bank and the Banker always left alone.  Arty hadn't thought to check and see where he went to each day after closing the bank.  Because of this mistake their lead was a short one.  It took a while to get all the men together but the sheriff didn't wait for daybreak.  They rode all night long.  Soon the posse was riding up behind the two fugitives.

"Arty, what do I do?" Andorra squealed.  His answer of course was to out run them.  Arty pulled out his forty five and began shooting at the posse but this was not the easiest way to hit targets which were themselves moving because of the fact that the wagon was bumping around on that old dirt rode.

The challenge of hitting anyone he shot at was also made harder since it was dawn they were riding away from the sunrise.  Arty was forced to fire right into the blinding light of the early morning sun.  It was not only extremely hard to hit men on horseback but even harder to tell if he actually was hitting anyone.  Still he knew if he kept shooting it would serve as a diversion.  One that might slow the posse down so he kept firing on them.  In spite of this, the posse kept closing in.  Suddenly the wagon hit a rock in the road causing Andorra to lose control while taking a sharp turn.   Arty put his gun away, climbed over the seat, took the reigns and regained control of the wagon.  Then he urged the horses to run faster.  The road was winding but Arty was determined to pass the next turn ahead knowing that running down the hill on the other side would give the horses a break and allow them more speed.

"Throw things," he shouted.  Andorra started throwing anything she could reach from the back of the wagon, hoping to thereby distract the horsemen and give the two a better chance of outrunning them.  They would have gotten away clean but when they came up on that sharp turn they both heard something snap.  The horses made the turn almost taking Arty with them but the wagon kept going straight.  After freeing his hands from the reigns which left him hanging on to the front end of the wagon Arty climbed back into the seat.  He fought his way back to where she was and reached for Andorra.  This was an act of love on his part.  One that she would remember for eternity.

"Jump," Arty hollered as he tried to grab her.   That's when they hit another hard bump, throwing them both down in the back of the wagon as it flew over the cliff.

Then everything became abstract for both as they saw the sky, then the ground and all went black. They didn't remember the wagon rolling down the hill over the cliff and into the swift moving current of a river below.

The sheriff conducted an extensive search but those saddlebags were never found.  The mangled bodies of the two were taken back to town for a pauper’s burial.

While searching the riverbank where the two had been dumped into the muddy water someone came across the book that Andorra had been reading but they didn't know for sure that it was hers.

There had been many stories told about where the money went but nobody knew for sure.  Some, who were inspired by the fact that the book was there, said Satan himself came to take the money away.

Sam was sweating as he looked up from the book.  It was hot in that attic but he felt compelled to stay there.  He went and opened all the windows.  Then he took the broom and swept the floor and threw the dust he had collected out one of the open windows.

As he worked his mind was full of images.  He could identify with Artys ability to make Andorra quiver with gentle touches.  He loved the warmth of holding Julia close to himself.  What he didn't identify with was a man who could steal to live.  Sam had always been a hard worker.

He then went downstairs and got a blanket, brought it up to the attic and spread it out on the floor to lie on.  Having done so, he began once more to read aloud.

CHAPTER 3 (The Pulpier Burial/Mordrids Arrival)

Andorra remembered leaping out of the wagon with Arty although she didn't remember being thrown back onto it again as it flew over the cliff.  But that's what happened.  She thought she remembered the sound of Artys wail but was unaware that they had fallen down over the cliff.  She didn't remember the speed at which the ground came toward her.  Everything was as if she were having an epileptic fit of some kind.

Artys last memories were the pain of hitting the stone ground below and then, nothing more.

In what seemed to be an instant they both found themselves standing beside their own bodies in the undertakers’ office.  Andorra didn't know how she got there but she and Arty were suddenly watching over the undertaker as he went about his duties.

Arty reached out and tried to touch his own flesh but his hand went right through.  The expression on his face had already been one of absolute fear.
