GCS OPENING PRAYER FOR THE SCHOOL YEAR

Give ear, O God, and hear; open Your eyes and look upon this school that bears Your Name.  We do not make requests of You because we are righteous, but because of Your great mercy.  O Lord, listen!  O Lord, forgive!  O Lord, hear and act!  For Your sake, O God, do not delay, because this is Your school and we Your people bear Your Name."  (Dan 9:19-20)

Father, as we begin this new school year, help us to understand that Your grace is sufficient for us, for Your power is made perfect in weakness (2 Cor 12:9).  You promise it is in that very place of weakness where Christ's power may rest on us.  We desperately need and receive Your provision of power and strength to help us navigate this new school year.

We understand that unless the LORD builds the house, its builders labor in vain (Psalm 127:1).  Help us to build on the right foundation, which is Jesus Christ (1 Cor 3:10).  Help us to work in harmony with one another; help us to be sympathetic, to love as brothers, to be compassionate and humble (1 Pet 3:8).  Enable us to disciple, evangelize, train and teach each student, as uniquely made in Your image, within an atmosphere of academic excellence.

As we do these things, help us to watch, to stand fast in the faith, to be brave, and to be strong.  May all that we do be done with love (1 Cor 16:14).

Finally, in the midst of our planning and activity, above all else, we pray that You, God, may count us worthy of this calling, and that by Your power You may fulfill every good purpose and every act prompted by our faith, so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in us, and us in Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ (2 Th 1:11-12).
