Out For a Hike

Hello, folks.

I find the divine most readily when I'm outdoors in beautiful places.  How about you?

Time to go adventuring!  I am organizing a YA backpacking trip in Colorado for this Labor Day weekend.

Where: Lost Creek Wilderness, in the Kenosha and Platte mountains southwest of Denver .  It has long, mellow valleys to walk and relax in, peaks to climb, and fantastic rock scenery.  My impression of the place is that the rocks are still bursting out of the earth.  The base camp I have in mind is reachable by a nearly flat hike for a few miles along a stream.  Once there, all sorts of possibilities open up.

when?  Friday, 9/1 to Monday, 9/4.  Several people have expressed interest/need to return on Sunday afternoon, so there are options.

what's the spiritual element?  What better place to worship than someplace beautiful in nature?  We'll talk about what we want to do and put some planning into it ahead of time: evening worship, morning rev-ups for the soul.  And we'll let inspiration take us where it will.   Anyone for a sunrise swim?  The mountain gods give points for bravery.  =)

Who: Any and all YA folk who care to come along, up to 20.    Boulder , Albequerque, Denver , Salt Lake City , Colorado Springs , Wyoming , outside of MDD?

Kids:  We won't be able to accomodate kids; there's just no way to seperate into adult space when we're all camped together.

Will this be an easy hike or a death-march?  From parking lot to camp is about 3 miles, actually downhill - about 400 feet total drop.  That means you'll have to "climb" that 400 feet back to the parking lot... with a slope that gentle, if you can actually tell that we're going up or down hill, you get bonus points.

Once we're at base camp, we'll do day hikes from there.  Or not!  Want to sit by a lake or stream and read a book?  Sounds great.  =)  Day hikes can range from mellow to ambitious.

What sort of stuff do I need to bring?  See the gear list page.

What if I have no outdoor stuff?  You may be able to borrow most things.  Contact me if you're interested and we'll take it from there.  We'll share group gear such as tents and stoves.
