Raising awareness of Von Hippel-Lindau

Genetic Cancer Syndrome

and funds for

Hello my name is Justin and I live in Kingsclere, Newbury Berkshire. Up until three years ago the letters VHL printed on the top of this page meant nothing to me:- now my wife Sarah (aged 32) and our daughter Chloe (aged 11) has VHL (Von Hippel Lindau Disease) Genetic Cancer Syndrome.

VHL

VHL is a very rare incurable Genetic Cancer Syndrome that affects many different parts of the body.

My wife Sarah (aged 32) has undergone major kidney surgery and has been told that she has two small brain tumours.

What makes this form of Genetic Cancer Syndrome devastating is that people suffering with VHL have an altered gene which means that many of the tumours can regrow at any time.

For a more In depth explanation on this condition please see the "About VHL" page.

So what this site all about?

We primarily aimed to raise the awareness and profile of VHL and other Cancer conditions as a whole in the uk. My son Mike aged 14 and i undertook the huge task of completing a Bike ride From  to Lands End  John o Groats this summer.

We visited various Cancer Research Shops in the uk on our 17 day trip, starting on August the 5th (see the route page) also go to the blog page for a day to day account as we went.

We also luckily had the support of various companies to help us with some vital equipment and funding for the trip - please  click our corporate sponsors page to see our very generous corporate sponsors.

VHL will be cured by Genetic Research but they think that it will take at least another 20 years and with the help of extra funding this could be in my wife’s life time, helping me to give further generations of my family and others like us a chance to see our families grow without the worry of passing this on from generation to generation. So please support us and help us "break the VHL cycle"

If you feel you can offer your support, please get in touch.

Thank you for taking the time to read this site – I hope you can help.
