Skeggy 2000         Photos

The usual crowd met at Nessa's about 9.00am Friday morning, we set off about half an hour later and headed for Melton Mowbray. Almost immediately, we lost 2 of the cars , but never mind the scooters were still altogether and the weather was dry! The journey to Melton was uneventful until Kenn decided to argue with a fire engine but he got away with just a few skid marks.  Then Dean had problems with his scooter. It was while we waited for Dean & Emma that it started to rain, and that was just a sign of things to come. At the next petrol stop we had a call from Fordy [ Stamford ] telling us that the camp site was boggy. Oh well we thought, we'll cope,. We got to Skegness around 2-30 - 3-00pm and pulled on to the campsite or should I say jet skied on, but we found a dry spot and put up our tents [in the rain] and headed for the bar where we stayed for the next 10 hours. Mick & Mandy joined us about 10-30pm and we all got pissed or in Ferdy's case, totally wrecked ! When he collapsed in a drunken heap, Mandy put him in the recovery position and Alex [Scootering ] who was concerned for his well being, tried to feed him beakers of water, and the rest of us carried on dancing to [SPUNGE] who were the night's entertainment and very good too! When the night came to an end we all waded back to our tents and good old Kenn carried Ferdy who did not put up a fight as he did not have the energy. Saturday dawned and we ventured from our tents to even more water - Laura & Jessica's tent was floating, Dave and Helens had sunk, and everyone else had had a moat [SHIT !!!]  A few of us decided to get a shower at a campsite in town where we also dried everyone's boots and coats from the previous day. Once clean and dry we headed to the shops to buy wellies. Back at the campsite the rest of the Inner City had arrived and Ferdy was trying to get rid of some of the mud on his G. P so he could put it in the custom show, and the rain continued. Never mind, time for another pint. Kenn & Nessa joined Mick Stratton behind the decks, everyone was looking forward to SELECTOR and before they came on stage Mick Peacock took Jessie to their caravan to get Pauline's autograph which pleased Jess. Selector played to a packed house and the rain and mud bothered no-one for a while. Mick, Kenn and Nessa did an excellent job on the decks and kept everyone dancing until around 5-00 am . Ferdy picked up two trophies, best street racer and most rat-arsed for his performance on Friday night. SUNDAY we were awoken by the sound of John Gray singing [ row row row your boat ] while sitting in his sinking tent. Guess what? The rain had stopped briefly but most of the campers had either left for home or moved into b+bs [where there was a water shortage!] Only the die hard remained . Once everyone from the club was up we had a pow wow to decide who was staying & who was going home, the light weights left the hard core to fly the Inner City banner. Rumours of Bad Manners canceling were rife, but we still had one more crate of Stella to get through and knee deep mud wouldn't put us off. What a night ! Everyone who stayed for Sunday was there because they were a true scooterist, who remembered the old days and weren't put of by knee deep, mud wet clothes, trench foot and had one aim get drunk, get even muddier and party only like scooterists know how. Bad Manners were relaxing in their bus and me, Nessa ,Michelle, Laura ,Jess and Joe invaded them. Buster signed Nessa's chest and gave the kids police helmets and was really friendly, he said he and the band appreciated everyone staying to see them, and we all agreed that the bus driver was Iggy Pop's double. They played a brilliant set and Michelle even managed a bit of a duet with Buster before being escorted off stage. We though Buster was about to blow up  when his head started steaming, but he stayed intact [ luckily- imagine the mess!]. Everyone had a brill time Sunday and the lads from Strange Town, wet wipe molester etc had us in stitches dancing to King Kurt in dresses, you looked rather fetching lads! John and Ferdy went back to the eighties sporting grass skirts and Ferdy didn't let anyone down who'd placed bets on him falling over because he did several times. But the hit of the weekend was the John Gray produced bongo band with Nessa as lead vocals, and John in a purple wig looking like Phyllis from Coronation Street. The night came to a close about 4am with Ferdy and Jamie [Peterborough] singing digger driver songs and us slipping and sliding to our tents. Monday guess what? It stopped raining, the sun came out and two donkeys woke everyone up with there  love making. Once packed up, we waded our way of the field and headed home, smelly muddy wet and hung over but thoroughly happy. A lot of people have slagged off the Sticky Rock 2000 rally, but come on, if you want comfort & luxury go to Spain or somewhere. Rallies are what you make them and we had a great time.
