X-Men
Developer: Konami Publisher: Konami
Introduction:
It was back in the early 90's where beatemups were very popular. Konami, having found much success with such beatemup titles like TMNT and The Simpsons, decided to realease a game based on the HUGLEY popular X-Men comic book series! The result was another classic!

Graphics: B
Well...it looks like most Konami games of this genre from the 90's. Everything is very colorful and the characters look very close to their comic book counterparts! The characters move very smoothly and at a very fluid pace. The effects from the mutants in this game alone makes you sometimes have a shocked look on your face not believing what you just saw...especially for Dazzler! The backgrounds fit in perfectly with the game and will have you sometimes wonder if you're watching a cartoon show or what. It's that good! They're not as detailed as what Technos did for their beatemup games, but then again...graphics don't mean everything right? Right...?
Sound: B
The sound is decent...for it's time. By todays standrads the sound might suck but back then...it was really good. Each X-Man (or X-Woman), as well as each boss character, have their own yells, grunts, death cries, whatever you can think of! The explosions sound very realistic, even by today's standards! There's even digitized voice acting! Though you can tell Konami must've slapped all of the lines togeter...especially in Magneto's case. But for it's time, it was very good since very few console games had voice acting in them. The only downside is the music. You can't hear it very well (which was even weird for back then), and what you do hear is just...well...mediocre. The only standout song is the that of the first level. But overall...the sound is great!
Control: A
Your typical Konami beatemup controls...which is a good thing! You have your punch, kick, jump, and even a mutant special button (to perform you special attacks). The more you quickly push your attack buttons, the quicker you character will do a very cool and unique combo! The controlling is very tight and responsive in this game and I saw no problems whatsoever with them!
Gameplay: B
What can I say? I'm a sucker for these kind of games! It has what every other beatemup for their time had...cheap deaths, sneak attacks from enemies, fast gameplay...it's all in here! What makes this game different and unique however, is the abillity to stomp the hell out of your foes while they're on the ground! I thought that was a very cool feature that was missing from other beatemups of that time! Another cool feature is being able to perform your special mutnat attacks! Whenever you do this, it will destroy anyone or anything in your path! But be careful though, these moves are not meant for you to perform all of the time and are very limited (unless you barely use them by the end of the levels. Then you will be given an extra one). So be sure to only use them in case you're in a very dnagerous situation! Aside from the cheap deaths by the bosses, the gameplay is pretty topnotch!
Overall: B
Not very many people will remember this game if you asked them about it...which is pretty sad. However, you can pretty much still see this game at the $1.50 movies or any other movie theater arcade that you go to! It's a fun time killer while you're waiting for your movie to start. Is it as fun as Double Dragon? God no. Is it as good as Bad Dudes? Hell yea! Is it the best X-Men game ever or just as good as the Capcom/Marvel Vs series? Nah. But that doesn't mean the game sucks. It's actually quite decent and any fan of the X-Men comic books series (like me) or any fan of beatemups altogether will love this game! It's one of the best of this genre and is highly recommended by anyone who's willing to have a fun time!
