Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles In Time

Developer: Konami.

Intro:

COWABUNGA DUDE!........Yeah. As annoying as that phrase is, in 1992, after it's successful prequels for the NES, Konami decided to roll out it's Arcade-Popular Sequel for the SNES. Giving this horribly outdated, yet nifty for it's time, phrase another run for at least a few more years. As the 16-bit wars were in full swing, Konami contributed, and quite nicely, with TMNT IV: Turtles In Time. This would be one of the greatest games before Konami made it final TMNT game for the SNES.

So, let's get down to business.

The plot is pretty straight forward. Krang Snatches the Statue Of Liberty, as April O'Niel is giving her report, then Shredder Shows up on the TV screen.....somehow(Keep in mind, it's '92. Not much made sense.) Then The Turtles Made there way to stop the Foot Clan and save the Statue Of Liberty, only to find themselves Warped back in time by Shredder.....They must then fight there way through all the different times, including the Prehistoric Era, a Pirate Ship, the Wild West, even the Distant Future.

But enough about that....

Graphics: A

Not surprisingly, for it's time, the graphics of this port are very well detailed, colorful, artistic, and move very well. Each Turtles also have a unique stance and will do something different while standing still. Another nice added feature is the ability to change the turtles color. You can have them all be colorfully green, or as a dirty comic book color, complete with the missing pupils. The stage details are also very good. From acidentally falling in an exposed sewer hole, to getting smacked in the nose with a loose plank of wood in the pirate stage. Everything is well detailed.

Sound: B

The sound is everything you'd expect from a Konami game in the early 90's. Hearing the turtles speak, the music, the sound effects, it's all pretty much your standard SNES Konami port. It sounds really good, but, to me, can be a bit better. But still, Konami fans(like myself) will not be dissapointed.

Control: A+

Absolutely flawless. Everything is incredibly easy to pull off. There is really nothing to it. Attack attack attack attack: standard 4 hit combo. There is also a lot of other things that you can do besides that. Like the ninja slide, or the flipping headbutt. This is the most difficult manuver to pull off(and even THAT is easy to do.), but, if hit, will deliver the most damage and get you the most points. DON'T rely too much on it though. either way VERY good control.

Gameplay: B

It get's fun in the beginning, figuring out how to do what with which turtle. There is a little variety in the sense that each turtle has a unique stance and fighting style, but like any Brawl game of this calibur, it gets repetitive, quickly. For Konami Turtle fans, this should come as no shocker. Another Non-shocker it the cheapness of the bosses. Some of the patterns are the easiest thing in the world to follow, but there are a few that throw in a cheap shot ever once in a while. But even with all that, is very good.

Overall: A

I have to give this game, overall, an absolute thumbs up. Everything, though old and outdated, is still a very nice Rainy-day game. This game will probably make anyone jump up and shout: COWABUNGA!!!!!!!!.......Ok. Maybe not.......But still. If you get the chance, give this game a try. It will make you Love and Curse Konami at the same time; love them for the game, and curse them for not making more of these for 16-bit systems.
