Luigi Mario

Got Luigi?

Batman

Developer/Publisher: Sunsoft/DC Comics

System: NES

Introduction:

The people I know of....or just anyone who is an old-school gamer, like us, are to officially to be put to shame if they DON'T remember this game. =D

Batman!!!!! This is, indeed, one of my favorite games of ALL time. Of course, this version of the game is based off of the ever-so-popular DC Comics character, and off of the first movie, which, in my opinion, contained the best Batman of ALL time....Michel Keaton!!!

N-E-Way, you'd have to be really....REALLY behind the times to not know the plot.....but don't worry. I forgive ya. And to show you I'm serious, I'll even tell it to ya.

Gotham City is, of course, one of the most criminally populated Citys in all of America today. Criminal events happen day-by-day, but, of course, this city has a savior in black.

Batman.

As the Criminally insane, Joker(Played by Jack Nichelson) is planning to spoil Gotham's 200th anniversery festival by spreading nerve-gas through the streets.

Batman must defeat the Joker, especially since, in this version, the Joker is the man responsible for the death of his parents.

The movie was really good. But....is this game equally worth it?

Graphics: A

You can't really say many things about the graphic quality of the NES, but this game did well.....VERY well, especially since this game is from Sunsoft. Almost every Sunsoft game for the NES tried to push the envelope with graphic quality. They really did their job with this one. Batman moves very well, as well as the enemies. I didn't really like the fact that some of the bosses were twice the size of Batman, but hey, it's NES. Whaddaya expect? N-E-Way, Batman moves very fluentley, weither he's running, punching, throwing, or grabbing the wall for a rebound jump. Some of the bosses move very well too. I guess the only beef I have with it is that Batman is Purple.....PURPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rather than the Black and yellow we're acustomed to from the Movie. But this is easily shruged aside with everything else. A thumbs-up, overall.

Sound: B

The sound is good, but you have to keep in mind, it's the NES, it isn't anything dynamic. But the sound is very good for what Sunsoft had to work with. The soundtrack to this game is absolutely Awe-inspiring. While it might not be anything from the movie, it's enough to be Batman-Worthy. Some of these tracks you might even catch yourself humming to. I know I did. lol. They did pretty good if you can get me to hum to a gaming soundtrack.

Control: A

The controls are all pretty easy to do, seeing as it's only button A and Button B. A Jumps, and B punches. I was kind of confused with the Pasue control, though. Y'see, I've always remembered, the START button to PAUSE, and the SELECT button to SELECT the weponrey.....NOT the OTHER WAY AROUND!!!!! *Ahem* but....the controls are still not that hard to master, as long as you can get used to the Start/Select thing.

Gameplay: A

Here's where the game REALLY grapsed my attention, and that would be the challenge. This game is DIFFICULT, and I mean REALLY DIFFICULT. Even the first boss'll be enough to give you a headache....But still, Batman has the tools needed for the job, he can choose between 4 different modes of combat. He can do the standard Punching. Although this is very short-ranged, you can punch like lightning, which will REALLY come in handy. The second is the handy-dandy, Baterang. These can do a heck of a lot of damage, if thrown at the right time, and these drain your supply the slowest, so they can really get you out of a jam. Just don't use it all the time. Not only will it Drain your supply quickly, there'll be some situations where you might not be able to kill the enemies in time. The third, a Missle Gun. That's right, a flippin' Missle gun. It starts off slow, but it can do a good amount of damage. Plus, it only takes 2 from your ammunition supply. but you can't fire it very fast, which is a major drawback to it. Still, it does it's job, and I recommend it for the Second stage Boss. The forth is a weapon that, when thrown, will split into three disks. I found this the most useless weapon in the inventory, and not only that....It takes 3 from you ammunition supply. Don't use it, unless you're in an area in which you can experiment for a bit.

One other issue I have with this game....Batman has only 8 health units, and they can go by REALLY quick, but you can get extra health by pummeling the goons(Even though it'll rarely show up...). Batman can also rebound off the walls. You'll need this trick to find shortcuts throuout the stages for when you dont want to fight all those cheap enemies.....And speaking of cheap enemies, the bosses are just that.....CHEAP!!!!! sometimes, you won't even be able to move out of the corner....and if you thing the first few bosses are cheap....what until you face the Joker.....*shrudder*.....This game's challenge'll fustrate even the most experienced of gamers.

Overall: A

Even with the incerdibly difficult(and I stress the word: DIFFICULT) challenge, this game'll give you possibly a couple hours of entertainment. =D The thing that really gave me this final grade is not only the challenge, but, as I've said with other games, the graphics, the soundtrack, the storyline, every element in a game should determine weither or not you ever want to pick up the controller and play again....And I did with this one.....over and over....All that can really be said is.......PLAY THIS GAME!!!!!! You can thank me later. =D
