De meesten weten al dat ik ondertussen in India zit om hier een beetje de cultuur op te snuiven (niet al te letterlijk, want de stank hier in Delhi is onbeschrijflijk, ik zal er nog moeten aan wennen 
).
Het is een hele tijd geleden dat ik nog eens iets op deze website heb gezet, maar ik hoop er nu weer wat vaker een update op te zetten. In het Nederlands en het Engels...
Ik ben eergisteren uit Londen vertrokken. Het plan is: 6 weken India, 4 weken Australie en 4 weken Nieuw-Zeeland. Vooral India belooft een serieuze cultuurshock te worden!
Ik hoop dat iedereen 2008 goed is begonnen!!!

It's been a very long time since I've updated this website, but since not everyone uses Facebook and this website is just that tiny bit more original, I decided to keep my website a little bit more up to date. So here I go: After a season working for Topdeck as a trip leader I have now decided to go travelling again. Landed in Delhi, India yesterday morning for the start of a 6 week trip through this huge country. Have only seen Delhi now and seeing is really only half the experience. If I could send you a package of smell...well,...you really wouldn't want it! It's great to see how people survive in a completely different world to ours though and I'm very much looking forward to go and explore some parts of the country, but then preferably without Delhi-smog.
After India, I'll be going to Australia for 4 weeks and then New Zealand for 4 weeks before I fly back home.
I hope you started 2008 well and would love to hear where everyone is hanging out right now!

Woohoooooooooo!
I made it! From Thursday onwards I will officially be a Topdeck-tripleader. The training trip ends for me tomorrow morning. A couple of days ago the trainers came up to me and told me I´d be leaving the training trip a bit sooner than normal. So yes, I thought they were kicking me off the bus and sending me back to Belgium. Surprise surprise! Reason why I´m leaving sooner than the others is because they need someone for a trip that starts on Thursday. And they picked me as the tripleader, great! So tomorrow I´m flying back to London (in Berlin now) and on Thursday I´m off with my own group of tourists. This means I won´t be getting a lot of time to recuperate from these verrrrrry tiresome weeks of the training trip. I´m very excited about it all, but at the same time a bit sad that I have to leave the group behind. Luckily tripleader Dale and cook Erin are also going out on a trip, so I´m not the only one to start the adventure...
Anyway, I have to go now, but I´ll have a little bit of time in London to update my website and send some e-mails.

Hi everyone,
just a quick message to let you all know that I'm now in London as a trainee for Topdeck. I've been here since last week and am leaving again tomorrow morning (at 6am...) to start the trip through Europe. For those of you getting a bit envious and longing for a holiday: it's not a holiday... Even though I will be going through roughly 13 countries in the next 5 weeks, I will mainly be talking about European history and Romanesque and Gothic architecture and stressing out when I can't find anything else to say while the trainer is shouting that you have to keep talking... Add to that around 3 hours of sleep each night and you know that I'm in for a tough training trip...
I'm going to try to update this website a few times, but don't expect much more than a few lines, because I won't have much time on the road.
Oh, by the way: I love reading the messages in the guestbook and since I might need some encouragement during the next five weeks, don't hesitate to give me an update on what's going in your lives

Ciao everyone,
I've just come back from a city-trip to Rome and it was just great: the city, its history, the food, the weather and of course: the company!
However, it was not just a regular holiday for me. On Monday I bought a suitcase... Now, as most of you will know, I'm not really a "suitcase-person". Give me a backpack and a few mountains and I'm a happy girl. But the suitcase has a purpose: In April I'm starting a training with Topdeck, a tour company that offers mainly Europe-tours. I applied for the job after having gone to Amsterdam with Kobes, who is a tour leader for the company. I really think this might be something for me as well, so now I'm studying like a madwoman, trying to figure out what all the European cities have to offer. I'm really enthusiastic about it and I will certainly keep you up to date about my adventures abroad.

first and for all: a happy new year to all of you!!! Last year I spent New Year's Eve in the Australian bush. This year I didn't go that far to experience a different way of celebrating: AMSTERDAM!!! It's in many ways a city of extremes and I really loved it! Great atmosphere, beautiful city, rich history and lots and lots of different cultures. I hope to put some pictures on the web soon!
In the meantime, I'm also going to try to work on my website, because I really want to make something nice of it. It'll take some time, but hopefully it'll be finished before the start of my next trip (haha, not telling yet where that will lead me to, but you'll find out soon enough, don't worry!)

Hello everyone!
It's been a while since I've been working on my website, but I'll try to make it up to you big time!
I've been back in Belgium for four months now and I have to admit that I'm really starting to miss life as a traveller. Don't get me wrong: it's great to be back amongst my family and friends. They all gave me such a warm welcome, I almost felt like I was a celebrity.
The first two months here were really nice. In fact I did not do very much else but spending time with family and friends. But of course the good life couldn't keep continuing just like that...
So in September I became "Miss Verhaeghe" in a secondary school in Oudenaarde. I had always thought that teaching would really be something for me, but I'm very much starting to doubt that. Most pupils just see me as the one who gives them tons of work (they'll be surprised how many tons they'll get in just a few years' time) and who is there to give them the worst grades possible. Whereas of course I just want the best for them all... Ah well, we'll see how it all turns out in the end. Anyway, I'm just really busy, because at the same time I'm still studying at university to get my teacher's degree. It's the most useless course ever!!! really frustrating that I have to spend so much time on it...
At the moment I'm trying to enjoy my holidays (one week of Autumn Holidays) as much as possible and of course I started dreaming again... This really reminds me of that last time when I decided on going travelling to Australia. Well, crazy plan number two is on its way. I'm thinking of taking a Diving Instructor course in Thailand next year. In June last year I did the PADI Open Water course and I had the best time ever! It's the first sport that I really enjoy! And I also loved the relaxed lifestyle of the instructors and shop owners. At the moment I'm still trying to gather as much information as possible about diving, padi, thailand and so on. But up till now it all sounds perfect! The only downside is the money of course. Unlike last year I won't have the opportunity to earn money while 'travelling' so I have to save as much money as possible in order to make this dream come true. It's a very expensive dream...but with a bit of good luck and a lot of work I think I will manage to have saved enough by next year September-October.

Very important: On October 4 I became godmother of the very cute Jasper. He likes being in the center of attention, that's for sure. He spent the first two weeks of his life in hospital. He underwent heart surgery because of a defect on his heart. But I can proudly say that now he's just like any normal baby: crying, weeing, looking around, .... ik weet het, ik weet het... Ik ben echt niet goed in het updaten van mijn site, maar dat is gewoon omdat er hier zoveel andere dingen te doen zijn 
. En bovendien horen jullie wel in levende lijve wat ik hier allemaal heb uitgestoken. Maar om jullie toch een beetje tevreden te stellen heb ik hier daarnet heel snel mijn tripje naar Tasmanie beschreven.
Aangezien ik geen tijd meer heb voor het vervolg zal ik dat hier heel snel in twee zinnen beschrijven: Na Tasmanie ben ik nog een viertal weken in Melbourne blijven hangen en daarna ben ik naar Perth gevlogen. Op dit moment ben ik met drie Duitsers aan het reizen in het Zuidwesten van Australie. Ok, misschien nog een derde zin: in tussentijd hebben Pieter en ik besloten om niet meer samen te reizen (dat alleen reizen in Nieuw-Zeeland is hem iets te goed bevallen blijkbaar 
), hebben we ons geliefd busje verkocht (met winst!
), ben ik te weten gekomen dat ik tante word 
(ik kan het nog altijd niet geloven :-) 
) en heb ik besloten dat ik wat vroeger terug naar huis ga
. Dat 'wat vroeger' is drie maanden om exact te zijn. Op 2 juli sta ik 's morgensvroeg weer op Europese bodem
. Goed op tijd dus voor de Gentse Feesten!

Het is ondertussen alweer een goeie maand geleden dat ik mijn site nog eens heb geupdate, maar het is voor mij ook vakantie geweest he ;-). Aangezien het internet hier echt belachelijk duur is, probeer ik mijn uurtjes in het internetcafe zoveel mogelijk te beperken. Maar vanaf dit weekend zullen jullie waarschijnlijk wel weer een paar nieuwe verslagjes kunnen lezen, dus nog heel eventjes geduld, er wordt aan gewerkt.
Ik zit sinds een week terug in Melbourne. Deze keer voor iets langer dan de vorige keer. De bedoeling is om hier wat centjes te verdienen, zodat ik daarna weer met een gerust hart (=een volle portemonnee) weer verder kan reizen. Momenteel werk ik als editor van leerboeken Spaans-Engels. Dat klinkt veel chiquer en boeiender dan het in feite is, maar ik heb daar niet echt een probleem mee, aangezien ik goed betaald word. Op drie daagjes tijd ben ik al 220 dollar rijker, joepie! Dat jobje zal spijtig genoeg niet te lang meer duren, dus ik ben ondertussen vlijtig op zoek naar iets anders.
Tijdens mijn vrije uurtjes ga ik op mijn gemak Melbourne verkennen of leg ik mij gewoon wat lui in de zetel... naar een of andere domme serie kijken op tv... Het hostel waar ik nu zit is echt super. Zo ziet het eruit, een echt huisje: www.centralaccommodation.net. Er zitten ongeveer 20 mensen, dus iedereen kent elkaar wel, heel gezellig boeltje hier. Mijn Iers gaat er trouwens enorm op vooruit... het zit hier gewoon vol met bloody Irrrrishmen :-)
Dit weekend verlaat ik het stadsleven weer heel eventjes om een bezoekje te brengen aan Pieter. Hij zit nu al een week als WWOOF-er op een boerderij en amuseert zich daar precies wel. Volgende week vertrekt hij naar Nieuw-Zeeland, dus vanaf dan moet ik tien weekjes echt helemaal alleen mijn plan trekken... spannend!
Over mijn reisavonturen van de voorbije maand zal je dus vanaf dit weekend wel wat meer kunnen lezen.

G'day fellas!
Ik heb hier vandaag weer wat tijd gespendeerd voor een computer, dus jullie kunnen weer eventjes verder he! Ik stel het hier natuurlijk nog altijd heel goed en geniet van de prachtige natuur hier. Het weer wil niet altijd even goed mee, maar de laatste dagen halen we hier toch temperaturen van 30 graden, zeer aangenaam dus.
Ik heb vorige week trouwens besloten om dit jaar niet naar Nieuw-Zeeland te gaan, omdat ik liever wat geld spaar om Australie echt goed te kunnen zien... Liever zoveel mogelijk van Australie zien dan maar een stukje van Nieuw-Zeeland en een stukje van Australie he. Dus van begin januari tot midden maart zal ik proberen wat centjes te gaan verdienen in Melbourne. En natuurlijk ga ik eerst solliciteren in de Belgische chocoladewinkel of in het Belgian Beer Cafe .

Ik schrijf straks nog vlug een reisverslagje over de voorbije dagen hier. Voor de rest heb ik, op vraag van Sigrid, een chatroom toegevoegd aan mijn site. Iedereen kan dus vanaf nu zijn/haar verdriet/vreugde delen met lotgenoten . Antwoord ook gerust eens op de poll hier ergens op deze pagina, altijd interessant om weten. Maar geen paniek, het is anoniem...

Hallo hallo, heel snel eventjes melden dat ik weer een nieuw verslagje heb getikt en er ook al een paar foto's heb opgezet. Die foto's opladen duurde enorm lang hier, dus ik heb niet genoeg tijd gehad om ze er allemaal op te zetten. Dat zal dus voor een volgende keer zijn.
Ook nog eventjes zeggen dat ik vanaf vrijdagavond van een reizend mens verander in een werkend mens. Pieter en ik delen de job van nachtwaker in het hostel waar we verblijven. Niet echt moeilijk dus: gewoon zorgen dat we wakker worden van de telefoon die misschien eens zou kunnen rinkelen 's nachts. In ruil daarvoor krijgen we heeeeeeel goedkoop verblijf. Nu gaan we nog op zoek naar een jobje voor overdag, zodat we goed kunnen sparen...

Ziezo, ik zit ondertussen al twee daagjes in Sydney en heb eindelijk wat tijd om jullie op de hoogte te brengen van mijn toestand. Ga dus eens langs bij het reisverslag. Op de foto's zullen jullie wel nog eventjes moeten wachten, want een goedkoop internetcafé betekent natuurlijk ook oude en trage computers...
Iedereen enorm bedankt om langs te komen op mijn afscheidsfeestje, was echt tof om iedereen nog eens te zien! Nog een extra bedankje aan Marijke en Mirtha die er enorm veel werk hebben ingestoken en natuurlijk aan mijn mamaatje en papaatje voor de sponsoring!

Omdat jullie ongetwijfeld allemaal zeer geïnteresseerd zijn in mijn belevenissen downunder, zal ik proberen jullie met deze site wat te laten meegenieten. Regelmatig zal ik mijn drukke backpackersleventje onderbreken voor een bezoekje aan een internetcafé om er mijn mooiste foto's en spannendste reisverhalen op te zetten.
